Hey Y'all! My name is Jenae. I am a proud mommy of one doxie--his name is Peter, he is a red brindle 5 month old and the absolute love of my life. (Of course, right after my husband.) I joined SP in hopes of having similar success that I had on Weight Watchers. My program fell to pieces when my hubby got home from Afghanistan--now we just can't afford WW. SO!!! I'm looking forward to getting to know y'all... and hear about your lovely pups.

Hello all you wonderful doxie people! I'm so happy to have found you. I've been on SP since July, and joined the Dog Lovers team then, but now I believe I have found my true home LOL! I was first adopted by a doxie who belonged to a co-worker about 8 years ago. He was looking for a new home for his smooth red mini boy, Hershey, because he had been aggressive with the kids. Said he'd shoot him if he couldn't find someone to take him! Totally unacceptable!!!! So I took on this unfamiliar little being - and having a 95# Weimaraner at home at the time, thinking, "this isn't a DOG - this is a TOY!" But as all doxie lovers know, that was the beginning of a new love affair. I only have one little red girl, Jade, right now, along with a sweet little mutt, Mini Pearl, that my husband found abandoned, but have had others over the years. As soon as I get the yard fenced in, I cannot wait to add to my family! All my doxies have been rescues, and I'm constantly looking at Petfinder.com to find more babies who need me.

So far I've lost 15.7 pounds, and I'm loving SP. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Oh WEEPINGWILLOW2, when I read about your rescue doxie it made me think of my old T.J. He has long since died but he was a rescue. He had been badly beaten and had a broken nose several times over. He was terribly vicious and afraid of people when we first started to visit him but I went every week. He was going to be put down but since we continued visiting the pound kept him in a cage. Finally got to the point that we were able to take him out of the cage and for a walk. He came home with us the next week and was a wonderful dog. We absolutely adored him and could never figure out why people had to be so cruel in his past. I believe that people who hurt animals should be jailed as it is just training grounds for them to beat on defenseless people in the future.

Welcome Laurie!
You have quite a houseful too. But all of yours put together probably do not equal Gomer My St. Bernard mix.
It is comical to watch him and Dutchess (mini dachshund) walking together. Then I take Scruffy and Belle.

Hi I just got my Doxie in Dec but my parents have been proud Doxie lovers for years ... they have 4 at this time ... I love the little devils but my husband was not a fan to small for my manly man LOL ... Frankfurt was a rescue he was bought in a pet store after being there for 7 months the woman who bought him did not think it through and soon found him to much to handle she gave him to an employee who said he was vicious and locked him in the laundry room (should add that in the 6 months he has been with me he has shown no aggression, but a sever skittishness around men)... my niece answered an ad in the paper when she got there the man would not even go in to bring him out to show her. She took him and then I helped her pick his name and the next thing you know I was baby sitting for a weekend and he has never left that was in Dec. LOL he is going no where and low and behold even though he was terrified of men he is now my husbands dog ... it took lots of treats and patience but Frankfurt now is not as terrified of men ... although when he first meets a new man he trembles we are hoping that we can help him over come this

When I got my Doxie, Rusty from a shelter, the lady who ran the shelter told me that she believed that there really are "Doxie People". They are a special kind of person who has an affinity towards these dogs. She said it had been her experience that 9 out of 10 times the Doxie will choose it's owner! Over the years, I've had 6 Doxies and 4 have choosen me. And I, too, beieve that we are a special breed.

Dutchess was so tiny when I got her she fit in the palm of my hand. I wanted a lap dog and I got one. I had a real warm housecoat that I wore in the winter. She would crawl in the arm until she got too big for that, then she would burrow inside by my waist. She always burrows way down to the foot of the bed. She will curl up in a sleeping bag on the couch when I am not sitting in my chair.
I had to finally get a harness for her because she pulled so hard on the leash when walking. She does not like other people until she gets to know them. She is also scared of other dogs when out walking so I try to walk where there are none which is almost impossible since there is a dog in every block.
She is also very greedy if it something she likes.
Only Belle makes her scared, the other dogs take orders from her.

Welcome to the team!
I have had a mini doxie for a little over a year. I got her from the shelter when she was 6 weeks old. She makes me laugh every day. She is such a little rascal. She is the boss that is for sure even though I have 3 other dogs.

OMG! I can't believe I found a Doxie lovers team! I don't have a Doxie yet, but I hear they have great personalities and I'm thinking about getting one.

We have a 10 year old Border Collie, Domino, who is the sweetest dog. I thought a younger dog would help him take his mind off his troubles. (Also, my sister got a Norwegian Elk Hound and lost 50 pounds because Shiloh thinks he needs to be walked 3 times a day!)

I'd love to hear the pros and cons about owning Doxies, especially long haired piebald. I'll probably get a mutt from the shelter but I'd prefer a red, black, and white mix. I saw a wirehaired silver one that I adore and couldn't even believe it was a Doxie.

Hope to hear from you all to help me choose a Doxie.
Thanks!

Hi, my name is Christine, I'm 37 and Canadian and I'm brand-new to this site as well as to this group.

My little man is Bjorn, a smooth, red tweenie male dachshund. He developed disc disease and was paralyzed briefly over the winter and that threw a big scare into me about our sedentary lifestyle, which is a big part of how I arrived here.

Bjorn has never been a chubby guy but I do believe that keeping him active (and me in turn) will help prevent him from having further problems, and as he's the light of my life I take that very seriously.

I was so excited to see this team that I almost started crying. I'm 100% obsessed with these silly creatures and the idea of meeting more people who understand their charm makes me pretty happy :)

Just found the doxie lovers forum and am happy I did! I have a 5 year old dachshund named Daisy who is VERY spoiled. The doxie poster on the team page fits her to a T. Sometimes she frustrates me so much, but then she just gives me that "look" and all is forgiven. Anyways, I look forward to reading and participating in this forum.

I have said hello on other post so I am going to jump in on this one and say hello. My Mom has a Doxie named HeidiIII. She is a very very spoiled doxie who gets people food along with her dog food. Not too much but it can sometimes be on a daily basis...I so fuss at my mom for this. My fur kids don't get people food very often. I just have to say I so love doxies and my husband loves them too thank goodness because he has 7 to deal with...LOL along with a Doberman and Great Dane.

Hi everyone! I'm new as of today...just found your team. I have a mini doxie named Heidi who just turned 3 in January. She is my first, and what a joy! I can't imagine life without a doxie in it. She is actually expecting her first litter of puppies on 4/17. She is such a special girl--I know she's going to be a fabulous mama. Can't wait to meet the puppies!

Hi everyone, I'm Amy. I live in Illinois with my boyfriend and our two doxies. Riley is a red-haired miniature and is almost 2 yrs old. Snickers is a chocolate/tan miniature and is 7 months old. His parents also have two: Buttercup, a miniature silver dapple and Lucy, a miniature black/tan. Needless to say, it's a hoot when they all get together for a "play date".

Hi, I"m Bonnie. I have 3 Doxies. Rusty, red miniature, age 12. He was a shelter dog we adopted 5 years ago. His previous owner died and he was left alone in the house with her for 4 days before some body discovered them. The woman who owned him must have had grandchildred who terrorized him with squeeze toys, because even now, if he hears a squeaky toy he hides. Zoe sounds like Rusty used to be, but hang in there, with lots of love and attention (which we Doxie lovers LOVE to do) Zoe will come around. I also have Barkley, a miniature black and tan, age 4 and Daisy Mae, the baby at age 1, a black and silver Dapple. Plus 3 cats who tolerate them. We live in Chicago and after a rather snowy winter, I'm dealing with 3 cases of "chappped belly" from the snow rubbing against their bellies, otherwise we're all fine and happy to be here.

Hi Marsha and welcome! Because Dachies love to eat and are so darn cute, It's hard to say not to them when they beg for food. (which is constantly) When Mandy was over weight (and I just couldn't say no) my vet suggested slicing raw carrots and keeping them in the fridge. When she begged for food, I would always have them to give her and she lost the weight she needed to. The funny thing is, now, if I put carrots and a piece of meat on a plate, she will eat the carrots first! She loves them.

Our Barkley is afraid of little boys, not little girls though. I think in the 10 months before he came to live with us he must have been terrorized by little boys.

Zoe update:
She is coming along well and learning what it is like to play. She is chasing balls and dog toys now. They terrrified her before.
Men make her nervous but she is growing attached to Daddy Bob. Our grandson Billy still scares her and we are working on that with her. She literally sees him and runs down the hall leaving a trail of poop. He lives with us so she will adjust.

She barks when we come through the door and growls at Billy the grandson. I bring in respite kids and she has the same reaction to them. I have found out she pretty much lived in a crate in a house with only adult women so it will take time.

I love to watch her chase the balls and toys now. She just bounces all over the place like a tigger. So nice to see her be a puppy.

We took her down for her bi-weekly bath and they were amazed at the change in her. No loger skin and bones and full of energy.

Thats all I have for an update now

Chris

Hey! I am a mother of no real children but my baby is a piebald 3 1/2 yr old Dachshund named Louie. We are BOTH dieting for my wedding. When my fiancee can officially adopt him and be his Daddy. = )

Even though when Louie here's "daddy" pull in the driveway and i say..."DADDY's HOME" ...Louie does his circle dance until Dad comes in and greets him.

Louie's favorite place is sleeping in between daddy's legs. So the joke never gets old....

Good luck to you all!

~Katie

I was posting to another forum and saw someone's list that she was a member of Small Dogs, Big hearts, so I came looking for forums and found this one. We have a 12 year old Dobie-Lab named Sabrina, and a 4 year old Doxie-person (I don't know if he really knows he is a dog) named Barkley. He has a brother-cat, Orange Floyd. Barkley is Mr. Personality and enjoys everyone and everything. He is a kisser and will often kiss people on his first meeting. He even plays by himself even though he has a cat to play with, too. He's a black and tan. The vet calls him mini, but he is taller than the mini that he met at obedience school. But at 16 pounds I'm sure he is not a standard either. Might be a 'tweenie. We got him from my hairdresser when he was 10 months old, I have it 'papers' but I never got to go to his breeder's place. But we love him all the same, no matter what size he is. emoticon

Thanks for the welcome. I love everyone's "babies". A dachshund face always makes me smile!
