Hello Friend!
I have knitted one prayer shawl. Was hoping to do more, but the geriatric foster dogs are absorbing my time. I guess they are a good ministry too.

We have about 50 attending members. I have not gone in a long time, but still hold the Church and it's principles close to my heart. I won't make this Sunday either because of the rabies clinic.

Hi, everyone!

I joined this team just a few weeks ago and have popped in and commented once in a while. I joined sparkpeople in August 2010.

I attend a UMC here in SW Missouri. We are a small congregation - about 100 attend our weekly worship service. There are much larger congregations fairly close to us, but this is the one that we felt most comfortable in. The first time we were in the church was for their Fall Bazaar, and now they are stuck with us! emoticon

I love the people in this church and learn so much from them. The congregation has been hit so hard with life events: Alzheimers, massive stroke, nonHodgken's lymphoma, cancers of various types, high risk pregnancies, etc. And yet those affected by these keep the faith and are such a witness. Our main pianist is a prime example. He is such a wonderful pianist; I play a bit, but can only hope to play like him when I get to heaven! emoticon He is there weekly, and yet and has had the trial of his wife being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. I had the privilege of being asked to sit with her at church while she was still being cared for at home. She is in an Alzheimer's unit now, and he goes daily to care for her. They also have a son in his early 30s who has mild Down's Syndrome, and he takes him to work and picks him up. Yet this man's wealth of knowledge and sweet spirit [and yes, I know Holy Spirit] shine through for anyone. He has a true servant attitude.

I semi-retired two years ago. I was a high school math teacher, and now teach two days a week at a community college which is close to my home. I gave myself a year to decide what was best for me to do as far as church is concerned, and so within the past year I have joined the choir and the chimes choir. I also participated heavily in our prayer shawl ministry until tendonitis slowed me down.

Well, enough about me! I look forward to visiting with each of you.

My name is Tammy and I live in SW Missouri.

Mark is a great guy. He is the senior pastor at the church. Mark and his wife are the ones who founded the church. There are a few pastors who share the preaching not only at the location I am at, but also at a site about 20 miles away.

I remember that he had taken it from being a handful of members to what it is now. I just looked at your page. I think it was Mark Beeson. He had some books and talked to us about using more of a lay leadership model of ministry. I think at the time he was the only pastor and was considering another pastor. There was a pastor from Nebraska who later moved there.

Wow.. I listened to 20 minutes of the May 8th service. The music is fabulous. I never did get to the message though. Hopefully, when I have more time, I can check GCC out better. Thanks for sharing.

I can't say for certain it was considered one of the fastest growing UMC churches at one time, but I would not be surprised. The church congregation is very large. Do you recall who the pastor is that spoke at the conference you are referring to? In case you would want to check it out here is the link to a website the church has: http://www.gccwired.com/.

Welcome. I think I've heard of your church. Wasn't it considered one of the fastest growing UMC churches at one time? I think a pastor came to talk at a church growth conference I was at several years ago.

The church I attend is not called United Methodists, but it is affiliated with United Methodists. The name of the church is Granger Community Church.
I will keep you in my prayers.

Welcome to the team. One thing I have noticed about us, is that we are pretty active in our real lives, and it might take a few days to answer a post.

Do you also belong to a UMC in your home community? Our church has about a hundred members with about half that attending on a regular basis. I teach Sunday School, but only have about four regular children. I need to pump some life back into the program, but am struggling with my own attitude too. So any prayers would be welcome.
