What a long, strange trip its been... hahaha My name is gregory and alan is my middle name hence the moniker "gralan". I joined Rainier United Methodist Church in 1982 when Sid Corl was the teaching elder there, and we studied E.Stanley Jones' The Divine Yes for the mens bible study on Saturday mornings. I went to a Christian ashram at a methodist site in Montana, and experienced one of many subsequent "Howdy"s from God there. I moved from town, and eventually married in '96.
My wife and I were married during the worship service at our local church in Albuquerque NM, and dedicated our lives to serving the needs of the local body of Christ (as differentiated from being mission-oriented, or evangelists, et al.) We've found God has faithful children in every denominational style-type-setting. We've done spiritual hospice care for dying congregations, triage on the battlefield so to speak, as well as encouraging others with spiritual nutrition and exercise.
Now we are broken people, and God's been doing the remodeling and construction so we're glad to be broken by Him. We also are impoverished though physically by disabilities and age, financially due to disability - resulting in bankruptcy, loss of job with State of NM Health Dept., sold our 3bdrm house for $200 in our pocket after mortgage & VA loan was paid in 2008, became homeless for 4 years until we finally won the lottery to get into the Federal housing program in San Antonio Texas. Things have stabilized for the most part, and we're glad but still struggling. We are both happy to know that we are on a grand journey on this planet to be God's will as long as He allows, and then we'll be home for Eternity to see what grand plans and adventures are for us to enjoy with God and each other. Cool beans, eh?

So here we be. I started with SparkRecipes, and eventually discovered that there was a SparkPeople with SparkTeams. hahaha I'll be writing about our life of faith with this new congregation/family.

Christine and I literally are closer to most of the Christian "blood-kin" family we meet at church than we are to our natural siblings and my father-in-law. If it weren't for my parents I would have little in common with my relatives even here in San Antonio Texas; and that despite the fact all of them profess Jesus to be their Lord God, Master and Savior. But they are strangers we know who have taken advantage of us in our poverty, cheated us from buying a house so they could use it as a money-making rental, knowingly sold us a junk vehicle for the last money we had and then complained about it needing to be towed from the street in front of their house, and the beat goes on... yeah the beat goes on.

It isn't enough to claim to be a Christian disciple. You can call yourself anything you want to, particularly in these united states of america. True 'nuf.

So we are at the ground floor of rebuilding a congregation/family/mission in an old neighborhood where we'd lived a spell twenty years ago, the church started back in the 1940s. The first Sunday I attended they made me a member, to my surprise... granted I had a long discussion with their charge-pastor a couple months prior. Surprise! I don't think it was due to some mistake, but believe God was tired of me taking so long to follow his lead that when I showed up looking for a church family they didn't give me a chance to back off from it. hahaha

Having done that, last Sunday, I came here this week since and discovered this team. I hope to be an encourager of you on our healthy journey in every aspect of our health -- mind, soul, body, will. The peace of Christ to you!

Thanks be to God.

I'm not even near perfect, but I know someone who is.
