DON'T go back to drinking soda!

We all know that we go through weight gains and losses because of water weight. That is probably what you are experiencing.

I have noticed that, sometimes a week or so before I have a nice weekly weight loss, I seem to gain or stay the same...then, a week or so later, lose more than I expected.

That could be happening with you, too. Next week or the week after, you might have a much larger loss than you expect.

Keep reminding yourself that you are in it to win it. Don't give up just because you hit a rough spot! If you allow yourself to drink coke's again, what will stop you from gorging yourself on ice cream, potato chips, pizza and whatever else you might crave?

Just don't give in to it! You are worth more than that! I don't even know you, and I know that much.

You CAN do this. Give yourself some time. It might be a month or two before you lose the cravings. Hang on.

Hi all....thanks NANDE77, I am now 10-days Coke free....but still craving them! I just keep hoping the cravings will go away. Also a bit frustrated as I have gained weight not lost and my calorie intake is much less...makes me want to just go back to drinking cokes again... emoticon

I am right there with you. I have not had a coke since Sunday and boy is it difficult. Probably the hardest thing I have to do in order to lose the weight. Hang in there. I am glad to know that it is not just my struggle to leave cokes behind!

Way to go! You're doing great! Would you have even thought you would be able to do it say, 2 weeks ago? Just think how long you will be able to go until the next coke - if there is a next one!

One step at a time is all we can do - but we can do it WELL!

Hi guys... update. I had my first can of coke yesterday since sunday. Not bad I would say. I took my time drinking it, as to savor the flavor. 4 days no cook. I am enjoying that.

Happy New You!!!

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I realize this is going to be tough but I must do it. Right now I am down to 1 can of coke per day. Yes the headache is there. My goal is 1 can every other day until it is all gone. I will keep you posted.

Happy New You!!!

Like KATMBT5, I too had to quit soda cold turkey! I hate diet soda. At the same time I quit soda, I also quit drinking sweet iced tea and coffee loaded up with sugar and creamer.

For me, quitting all 3 of the bad drinking habits at the same time just made sense. I would only have to put myself through the misery just once, and could get rid of 3 bad habits at the same time!

It worked for me. I also had a headache. Mine lasted 3 or 4 days, then went away. I drink milk with my morning Slim Fast, and then drink water and hot green tea with Splenda the rest of the day. Mostly water.

As you get used to drinking water, you will lose your cravings for the soda. As I said somewhere else today on Spark, several months after I quit drinking soda, I accidentally took a drink of my daughter's soda, and almost gagged! It was rough. I don't know why I ever liked it to begin with!

Here's the thing: Do it for your health. Soda of any kind is simply not good for you. There are NO, and I mean ZERO benefits to be found in soda, cola, pepsi, whatever you want to call it. If you can clean the grease off of a car engine with cola, what do you think it can do to your guts? Not pretty.

Anyway, if you cannot do it cold turkey, then cut down more gradually. Start by estimating how many you drink on a daily basis, then begin replacing one of the cans or bottles with water. The next week, replace two, and so on. Eventually, you will be weaned off of it, and I guarantee you, within a few months you will not even crave it. You certainly won't regret stopping the habit.

Also, if you need further encouragement, start up a change jar. Each time you choose water over soda, put the amount the soda costs into the change jar. Drink water from your filtered refrigerator line, or invest in a Pur filter for your sink. Much cheaper than buying bottled water.

Good luck! I just know that if I can stop drinking Coke, you can, too! I remember having a love affair with it since I was small...but I don't even miss it now.

How 'bout replacing the cola with coffee? You still get the caffiene but not the calories. Drink enough so you don't get your headache, then switch to water. If you can make your 8 cups of water a priority there is not much room for additional coffee or colas. It worked for me; maybe will for you, too.
After a while you will miss the water. I am down to 2-3 cups of coffee each morning and then water the rest of the day, but it took a few months to get me there.

Hi! Welcome to the team! I am a Diet Pepsi addict, and have slowly weaned myself off it by substituting flavored calorie free carbonated water. I do relapse when I am stressed out, but for the most part I am DP free. Another item I have used is Diet Green Tea - it was a bit hard to get used to (I am not a green tea fan) but again the flavoured ones were easy to drink.

I hope you find all the support and tools you need to reach your goals!

Val

I was addicted..I mean addicted to diet dr. pepper. I drank at least 3 or 4 of the 24 ounce bottles in a day. I know it's diet, but it's still not good for me. For me I had to go cold turkey...and I had a TERRIBLE headache for about 5 days...but then it was gone and so was my habit. I quit drinking them on September 15, 2009 and it was hard, but now I'm over it. I did attempt to have one about a month ago and it tasted funny to me so I didn't drink it, I figured I was better off that way. I know the headaches are a killer, but that was the only way I could do it! Good luck! You can do it!!!

Hi! I am in the boat with you! I have actually gotten off of regular drinks (for the most part) and gotten hooked on Pepsi Max/Diet Pepsi. I have heard somewhere that diet is about as bad for you as regular soda. And water is the best but I'm having a very hard time drinking water these days for some reason. I, too, would like some suggestions if anyone has any...THANKS!!

Hi Everyone,

I've had a love affair with Coca Cola since i was a little girl. Sadly letting it go has been tough at best. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions on how to quit this bad habit. I've tried switching to coke zero and diet coke to no avail( they taste terrible). I've tried cold turkey and had the worse migraine headaches ever. At this point i am not going to let it go totally but shoot for 8 oz per day. Your suggestions are welcomed, but please be gentle. BTW I know its not the best thing for me emoticon
