Thanks for the ideas about rewarding myself. I always like to hear what others are doing. I also like your idea about sending guests home with leftovers. We have Bible study at our house every wednesday and then usually a group over on the weekend. We entertain alot! I am also new to couponing and I stock up on quick (junk) foods for entertaining when it goes on sale. So buying entertaining foods just for the moment can be costly. I am working on getting my guests to eat healthier by having options other than chips. I had a lot of fruit and veggies at my son's birthday party this weekend. I try to keep my kids healthy and I do alot of closet eating so they do not see what I do. I am working on it but every day is a battle. I LOVE having such a great support system and I hope to continue to work hard at it. Thanks for your support! Good luck to you too!

Take this first week to familiarize yourself with the tools here. Once you get used to using them, it becomes easier to use them even when you are busy. Personally, I spent my first week learning to use the tools, and just tracking everything I was already eating and doing for exercise. It gave me a baseline to work from. It also gave me a chance to really decide what my goals were, and how to get there.

This site can only provide the support and the tools to reach these goals. You need to put the hard work in. Personally, I end up kicking my own butt every day. Feel free to check out my blogs to see how I kick my butt out the door to get my fitness in. I can tell you, once I am finished with my exercise for the day, I feel great. No more I should do this and I should do that. Instead, I feel accomplished, and able to relax and enjoy the rest of my day.

Nope. Today is the best day to start. Tomorrow never seems to come

The only day you can change is today.
What are you going to do today to reach your goals of tomorrow?

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it GREAT

Congrats on your decision to start on a THURSDAY! emoticon
I started on December 22nd and so far I've lost about 17 pounds!

I too have chosen to focus on small goals... my first goal was to lose 5% of my total body weight ... and I've done that! Now I am working on another 5%!

Slow and steady wins the race.... the good news is - and I remind myself of this all of the time -- the good news is while it may take a long while to lose weight .... you will begin to have more energy and feel healthier much much sooner ... within weeks!

Enjoy!

It is not enough to simply show up. You need to step up for results.... keep on stepping! Dee

Anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I turned 45 in January 2012, and by Sept, I had lost 58 lbs.

I LOVE your idea of incremental goals with rewards! Maybe a new outfit? or a new accessory, since those will still fit after a big weight loss? Or a trip to the spa for a mani/pedi? Some little indulgence - that doesn't involve food.

Even though you have kids and entertain a lot - I'd still suggest purging the house of excessive junk food. It's not good for your kids anyway - and maybe this will help you introduce them to better eating habits too? And for entertaining, just buy what you need for the event, and send the left overs home with guests to clear it out of your house.

You can do this - remind yourself of that every day - you CAN and you WILL. I feel a bit daunted by what I have to lose too, and have been reminding myself that I can do anything I put my mind to. I just have to want it bad enough to find the strength to keep focused when I encounter a set back or hurdle.

Starting on a Thursday is GREAT!! Why wait for tomorrow when you can have a day already under your belt by then?

So I am trying to get some local friends to do this with me. We all have no money and love that this is free. I woke up and decided I need to change my life. I have 2 children (ages 4 & 1.5). They help me stay moderately active. But I eat ALL THE TIME. I need to find quick healthy snacks and stock my pantry with them. I feel that 100 pounds is unobtainable. So I am going to try to deal with 10 pount increments. I think setting up a reward system will help me stay motivated along with my friends. I live in MA and love that the weather is so nice. We are headed to the park and going to have a picnic dinner. I just need to pack something healthy...hmmm...I have too much junk in my house. We entertain constantly which will make it hard but I have already found some great recipes to try out. I am scared that this will take forever since I turned 40 last November.
