WELCOME, Kerensa. Every little thing you do will help you toward your goals. My biggest help was to set REASONABLE goals and PLAN how to get there! Which means planning all meals, planning for workouts (even if it's only 10 minutes a day...make sure to plan and DO IT!). Sounds like you're off to a great start! Keep us posted on your progress and check in with us once in a while! :-)

Take this first week to familiarize yourself with the tools here. Once you get used to using them, it becomes easier to use them even when you are busy. Personally, I spent my first week learning to use the tools, and just tracking everything I was already eating and doing for exercise. It gave me a baseline to work from. It also gave me a chance to really decide what my goals were, and how to get there.

This site can only provide the support and the tools to reach these goals. You need to put the hard work in. Personally, I end up kicking my own butt every day. Feel free to check out my blogs to see how I kick my butt out the door to get my fitness in. I can tell you, once I am finished with my exercise for the day, I feel great. No more I should do this and I should do that. Instead, I feel accomplished, and able to relax and enjoy the rest of my day.

Welcome to SparkPeople! There are all kinds of resources here and the longer you linger the more you'll find. It's a great way to get support, ideas, recipes and encouragement AND to keep yourself motivated through games, success stories, quizzes, movies and much more.
I'm 43 and although not a diabetic (yet) I too have an elevated HbA1c so I'm making new lifestyle habits to get that under control before it's more than I can handle.

Hello, my name is Kerensa and I am 42 with uncontrolled diabetes type 2. I met with the nutritionist on Monday and have started a carb controlled (not low carb) diet and will be starting the Victoza shot tonight. My main goal is to lower my blood sugars from the mid 300's to low 100's and my A1C down from 9.6 to 6 within the next six months. My 2nd goal is to lose weight starting out with 20 pounds by June. My third goal is to get up off my butt and exercise as I am very sedentary. I heard about this site and hope it will help keep me motivated and on track. Nice to meet you all. emoticon
