Stress definitely effects our cortisol level and ability to lose weight. I am happy for you both in your retirement, move to warmer climate and for your weight loss.

I think you will find Spark a great help. Already, your approach is right - a healthy lifestyle versus a "diet". All the best!

Hi. My name is Joy.

I'm a newly retired school teacher as of July 9th, 2018. At my annual physical - and over 200 lbs - I said I needed advice on a diet. My doctor didn't even let me finish the sentence! I started again - and again immediately cut off "NO!" Huh? I responded. She asked "Are you still working full time as a special ed teacher working with children who have high behavioral needs?" Hmmm...Yes. "Then the answer is NO. You're eating habits are stress related. Change the stress level and then we'll talk diet." I was floored. But she was immovable. She said she was as serious as a heart attack. And since I'd already been there - done that - got the T-shirt - I believed her.

I've relocated to a warmer clime (and my doctor moved farther north). Since retirement to today - I've lost 23 pounds. No real diet plans - just eating during normal hours and focusing on whole foods - mostly plants. No real exercise plan - just less time in front of a screen and mornings at the gym.

Over my teaching career - and life - I've collected 50 extra pounds that still need to go - so here I am!

Happy to be here! Looking for a diet/exercise accountability partner!
