New to the team. Struggling every day to make weight loss happen and to get back to healthy place again. Lost 30 lbs last year and have gained it all back plus even more. I’d like to just get on the right path again but struggle with depression, anxiety, social isolation and low self esteem. I do ok for couple days then I seem to fall apart. I just wished this was easier. All I can do is keep living and trying, one day at a time. I want to lose 60 lbs but struggle just to lose 1 lb. I go right back to starting point. Hoping to get encouragement and support here.

Thanks for taking the lead Carolyn!
I was in this team a while ago and dropped out with no activity. If I can help a little bit, I'll be glad to. Not a lot of time, but enough for a boost!

I'm Gretchen, single, 52, live in Oregon, but from Mass. I've been big most of my life except for about 7 years ago when I dropped 70. After gaining back 60, I'm back on track with a better eating program and have lost 15 of it again. Safer, and healthier. No short cuts!!

Looking to connect with other SNiKers!!

Patriots, Red Sox, Keto, Zumba, Highland Games are my passions. I may live in Oregon but my heart still roots for Boston!!

Hello, I'm Carolyn! Signed up on SparkPeople way 10 years ago and I've been basically figuring out how to lose this weight and keep it off ever since. Lots of ups and downs, but I'm down 50 pounds since last May, and while I've not been losing anymore since about April, I've keep it off!

I am new here. I lost 40 pounds in the last 18 months. After 30 years of being the same size I gained weight because of a blood clot in my lung with extreme pain to walk to the kitchen to cook or do any outside exercise. I was size 10 when I left high school and now size 10 again after 2 years of getting back to my former size. My clot broke into 3 clots in my same lung, never went away, but less of a problem this time. I have never been married or had kids. I live in B.C. Canada.

Hi all,

I'm on my phone so I won't go on too long, but I'm Josh and this isn't my first go round on here. My weight has been a crazy ride for my entire life. It started in high school, when I would gain weight unabated through the summer, then get in shape during football and lose most of the weight during wrestling.

This worked pretty well when I was 16, but once high school ended and there was no more sports to lose the weight it just kept piling on. By the time I was in my late twenties I was over 400 pounds.

In 2012 I changed my ways 100%. I started watching every calorie, agonized over missed workouts, and in general just obsessed. It worked really well for a long time. In a year I had lost 160 pounds, run a half-marathon and thought I had it all figured out.

But I wasn't really on track. I had no margin for error, so when things in my personal life weren't great, everything fell apart. I got locked into a vicious cycle and now I'm heavier than I've ever been. I'm not stuck in the same self-hating place that I used to be - I'm happy with the person that I am. But I want to lose weight for the right reasons. I want to be more comfortable. I want my joints to feel better. And I want to put more emphasis on leading a healthier lifestyle than losing a particular amount of weight. I don't need to be "skinny" or "sexy" or any other value judgment based on weight. I just want to be a happy person like I am now, just less heavy.

So that's it! Add me as a friend if you like, I'm always up for supporting and being supported, and I have so many dad jokes. Later!

Josh! From Oregon!

Hi! New member here. This team seems to be my type of tribe, based on the name. Most of my friends are married and/or with kids and they don't have "time" to workout with me. I don't know if many of you have this challenge to stay motivated to improve your health when people around you are too busy for fun exercises or learning more about healthy foods. Hope to get motivation AND to motivate on here. :)

I don't think I've posted anywhere yet. Never married nor had children, though it wasn't a life goal not to marry or have children! I am on a maintenance team where it seems a lot of life revolves around kids, grandkids, and such. It gets a little hard to hear. I"m not a young thing, either, so I'm not really in the position of biding my time until they happen. Hope to find some company for the journey.

Welcome!

Awww, nice that you have a dog named Gizmo wicked. What type of dog? I don't have a dog, but I sure do love them. I had to give my dog to my friends when I moved south, as I didn't have the time to devote to him and couldn't find a place to live that allowed dogs. It was a great arrangement as Skipper loved being in a home with children and was very spoiled. I had full access to him and often took him on holidays with me. When I moved into a tiny house, he would come over for sleep-overs with the kids. It was a great arrangement. He lived into his late teens, had a good life.

So yeah, any questions or support needed, let us know.

Hi- I'm Rachel. I try to focus on what I do have instead of what I don't have. I joined a few days ago. My weight has crept up over the past couple of years and I want to get back to my usual weight. I usually enjoy working out, I think I just need to do more cardio and longer workouts. And also eat better.

Thanks for all welcome messages. I'm still learning to navigate the site. I don't have a modern cell phone, so have to be home to do this. Still going fairly strong at 4 days. Have cravings though. I'm so grateful for this site. It helps.

Hey howdy and glad I found this group. I'm 31 and wouldn't mind dating, but since my generation's no longer capable of talking face to face and I have no clue how to date, i'll be happy just trying to meet people and be friends at the moment. most of my friends are across the country and/or raising their kids, so I don't talk with them as much as I'd like to. Anyhoo, I just got back onto spark and i'll be working hard for me as much as ON me this year.

Welcome to the team. Feel free to jump onto any board and post. I appreciated your insight into the struggles of dealing with the barriers on this journey, as a single person . One of the positives of being single is that I don't have to cook up different meals, as my ex never liked to eat healthy food. I like that I can make up a huge salad, toss in chicken and call it a meal with critism from the peanut gallery. I miss though having someone to go for walks with, as my friends that used to go with me have moved out of the area. I take my iPod now.

Hi, I am Christine. Live in Texas and am 44, single, never been married, no children. Cooking and fitness are challenges for me. I work in graphic design and work way too many hours. I have dealt with some health issues this year that have derailed my weight loss efforts. No more excuses! Looking for a place where the family issues and feeding the kids are not the majority of posts.

Singles with no children have different challenges when it comes to healthy living. When you live alone there is little accountability. If you want to eat at 3 AM no one says anything. If you want to have cheesecake for dinner, no one sees it. And no one is asking you to go to the gym with them.

As a single person with no children, you have to keep yourself motivated and be accountable to your goals. That has its challenges. Everyday I get stronger and better at this. But, it is slow and I fall of the wagon.

I hope to find support of people dealing with the same challenges I have here.

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening!

I'm trying this again. I new username and location. I moved to South Dakota at the end of January for a career. I love my job, even though someday's I wonder if I'm good enough to keep it.

I'm 35 and my age doesn't bother me until I realize that my baby brother is going to be 24. I'm doing this for me. I'm tried of asking my niece (4) if we can play the game on the table, because I know my gut emoticon will get in the way if we play it on the floor. She is a very active little girl and I love her for it, but there is no way I can keep up with her.

BTW, I love emoticons.

Welcome to the team. I'm glad that you found us here. I had to look up the country that you are living in as I hadn't heard of it. I admit that I'm poor with the smaller countries. I read that the population is mainly Muslim, which makes it understandable how difficult it is to be a single woman without children, living alone. It would present different challenges than our Western culture, that's for sure. Sounds tough with the food too. All the best.

Hi I am Katja and I just discovered this team.
I am 50 years old never married - no kids and live in Azerbaijan working here with a charity.
I am challenged by the food choice here, (I am originally from Germany and there it is easy to find healthy food, but Azeris call a 6% greek yogurt diet food). Being a single is also a challenge here, because women who never married are seen as some kind of weird people and local women who never married will have to stay life long in their parents house, which makes lot of girls to marry and then live with a bad husband a difficult mother in law - that makes me very thankful for my own culture where no one is forced to marry..

Welcome to the team Dee, glad you found us here. There is a good mix of singles from those who plan to remain single without children and those who are here for the moment, happy with where they are now and building to the future. As for weight, the right man doesn't see weight, he sees the beautiful woman inside and one day when you are least expecting it, that may happen to you too. I always wanted children, the universe had other plans and I realized when I hit 40 (11 yrs back) that the universe gave me children - just not ones that I gave birth to. So you never know what'll happen, focus on you and your health and the universe has way of working things out. :)

Hi, I'm Dee and I live in Lawton, Oklahoma. I'll be 35 in June and I've never been married nor do I have any children. I've always wanted a house full of kids so hopefully that will still happen one day. I can be kinda shy, though, so I don't have a boyfriend very often either. I've had a couple serious relationships in my life, but I always pick the wrong guys. I always felt like my weight was an issue and that was why I never had that many boyfriends. But, then I see women who are bigger than me. Who Knows!

But, I am here for me. Not for them. And, that is what is important. My friend and hair dresser passed away in February and she was only 44 years old. I know that I am not healthy and have a lot of weight to lose. My whole family is obese on both sides.

I take too many medications and have health issues that I would like to get rid of and I am motivated to do so.

Thanks for having me here!
Dee

Blessings from:

Hi! I'm Lynn and l live in central FL. I just signed up for SparkPeople today in hopes of finding a support group to help with my weight loss. I'm 36, no kids, no boyfriend and for the first time in my life l am putting me first! In Jan 2014l weighed 275lbs and my Dr wanted to put me on cholesterol meds. I refused to take medication and chose to instead take control of my health and life. I have lost 14lbs so far thru diet and exercise.

Hi, I'm 36/F living in South Texas. I'm an emergency dispatcher which means I sit for 12 hours a day in a highly stressful environment. Most of my friends are or have been married and they have kids. I love them, but I really wanted to find a group of people who don't have children, so here I am! I have been struggling with my weight for years. I gradually gained and I have lost weight only to gain it back. I guess the important thing is I've learned a few things and I never give up!

You are welcome ZOIEY24 and no worries on the posting, as it's understandable that it's the last on the priority list when work calls. I hope all is going well for you.

Welcome to the team Franci. Singles are a very large rising part of the population and one day it won't seem so odd to the rest of the world, to be single without children. I"m glad you found us here, where you won't be an alien because we are all single with no kids. emoticon

We are here to support through your journey. Stress eating is tough, it's a matter of replacing it with something that is more productive. If you need to bounce off things or ideas, pop in and we'll be here for you.

Hi, new team member Franci here. I've been divorced for a couple of years and have no kids. There is no significant other or anyone and I'm really liking the freedom that brings. But, I get the feeling I am some sort of alien because of the no kids AND no husband.

Right now, having problems with stress eating -- work, parental pressure, etc. Getting back under control is harder than finding the control was the first time , sigh...

Welcome to the team, glad that you found us here. My ex was one who was away lots, so I basically had my own schedule and menu, however, when he came home it was a different story. While my schedule didn't change the food did as he was more into the deep fry foods and junk than I was. I was more a veggie, fruit and grilled meat person. What I found living on my own is that I can eat what I want, when I want - which is both good and bad. As I don't have the pressure to stay eating healthy, so I can easily fall into forgetting to eat all day and then gorging at night or eating unhealthy (as on the run). However, I know what I buy and put in my cupboards is totally my responsiblity, so if its there its my choice and not brought in by someone else.

Hi, I'm Laurie. Recently 100% single and so glad I found this group. I'm 34, recently divorced, no kids. I'm originally from Lawton, Oklahoma but am currently living and working in Owasso, OK (a suburb of Tulsa ... yes, Tulsa has suburbs lol). I've found weight loss, eating right, and exercising to be SO much easier now that I'm alone. How about everyone else?

No idea on Nutrisystem. The cost of the food was enough to set me off from joining with them. Could you make up batches of food, then freeze them so that it's still easy to prepare? Or some folks I know (and I've done it myself) buy veggies for salad, then eat foods like Lean Cusine - which when on sale, can cost as low as $1 per meal (even up here in Canada). That would be cheaper than Nutrisystem. And for bkfast and lunch it could be simple, like making smoothies for example.

All the best with it. :)

emoticon . Unfortunately, I have never tried nutrisystem so I can't comment on that. I can comment on the struggle to eat healthy while studying for exams. I took my recertification boards early last year and I didn't quite fully recover from my poor eating habits and lack of exercise. It extended throughout the remainder of they year. So, whatever you can do to PREVENT that from happening, GO FOR IT!!

Hi, I'm 28/F in Boston working in finance. Trying to lose or at the very least maintain while studying for the CFA exam.

I'm thinking of trying Nutrisystem for the convenience factor. Have people here tried it? If yes, how does the food taste? I'm afraid that I might end up eating cardboard for a month!

Welcome to the team and congratulations on your recent graduation. There are many boards (conversations) to jump into - feel free to do just that, even if a conversation hasn't been moving for awhile, fresh take on past topics is always welcome. I love the names of your cats. Have a great day.

Hi,
I am 42, a recent graduate of a Medical Assistant program who is looking for a full-time position. I share my apartment with 2 beautiful cats (Zeus & Poseidon) I am thrilled to find this group. I have been on SparkPeople for a while but never really was consistent with all of the features/tools of the program. I am looking to connect with other like minded people who can discuss the unique challenges of living a single life. Have a great day! :-)

My name is Katie. Around 18 months ago I weighed 368 pounds. I've lost about 180 lbs since then, but I've reached a bit of a plateau. I rejoined SparkPeople in hopes of meeting new people and finding that motivation and drive that got me to this point! I look forward to connecting on here and losing my last 40 pounds!

Welcome to SNK team and glad you found us here. It's hard when you have to let your babies go and it's great they are both in good homes. I had to give my dog to my friends, when I left my ex and I kept "visitaiton rights." This included taking him with me on road trips. It was great, he loved living there with the children and I loved that I could still see him. All the best with your new changes and wonderful exciting life path that you are now walking down.

Hi, I am 39 years old, no kids. This isn't exactly by choice, my ex-husband I decided when we were in our mid-thirties it was time to try to have kids. It didn't happen, and we are now divorced. I am now single, no man in my life, and sadly I also had to give up my fur babies as my apartment doesn't allow them. My ex has my dog and my mom has my cat, so at least I know they are in loving homes!

A little about me - I work in Occupational Health and Safety and EMS. I am definitely fortunate to have a fabulous career. I am focused on "ME" now, and still adjusting to life as a single person. I think I forgot how much I liked hanging out with myself LOL. And as for my friends with little kids, as much as I like them I have to admit I cannot relate to them simply because I have never experienced life with children in it.

I am glad to have found this group! I have done sparkpeople back in my married days but my life is different now so I have a new username, new page, new outlook!
