I'm so backwards when it comes to the race. I decided a while back that I wanted to run a marathon. That was BEFORE I had ever run a step. My first race was a 10k and my second, a full 26.2 miles! But now, I have decided that there are other things that are important to me too. My son is turning into a pretty good little athlete, and I want to be there for him. He plays footballl, basketball, baseball, and swims on the swim team. I want to develop a love of sports in him, and I don't think that I need to run marathons to do that.

I also have gained 20 pounds since starting marathon running, which I want to lose. It's making me slower. So, I'm going to do shorter distances/races, so I can do other forms of exercise. I'm also going to pay more attention to what I eat so I actually lose some weight between now and New Years!

I'm not saying I'll never run a long race again, but I don't think I'll ever go over 13.1 again, at least not until I am consistently running 10 minute miles or faster. So, I have a while!

Welcome back, Molly!

Funny, I figured it out in reverse. Somewhere after training for a few halfs, I realized that if I wanted to do a full, I could... but just because I could didn't mean I had to. And in fact I really don't want to. But I have no doubt in my ability. This has taken a big pressure off my running in general - and I run to stay fit, and healthy. And that is enough, whether it is two miles or twenty. I pretty much just try to do something active every day... and it is working for me! ;)

Enjoy your journey - wherever it leads! ;)

Hi, I am Molly and I've been away for a while...I am trying to get my mojo back. I have marathon #5 on Oct. 16, and after that, I'm taking a break from marathons until I can lose some weight, and get my per-mile pace back down around 10:00 or so. I am currently doing shorter runs at 11:00-11:30, and the long runs at 12:00-12:30. Not too fast, but I'm also going to do some other cross training. I'm not going to worry about marathons - I've done enough of them. It has taken me a while to believe this, but just because I do the shorter races doesn't make me less of a runner...

Anyway, it's always good to have a goal - so for my marathon on the 16th, I would like to go under 5 hours - it wouldn't be a PR (my PR is 4:33), but it would be better than the last marathon I ran!

Glad to be back into spark. .I like the changes that they have made to the site!
