Greetings, all.

I am happy to have found this team. I was raised with homeopathy, my mother called herself a white witch, and I run a yahoo list for the holistic treatment of dogs, the Holistic Dog. I just started a tema here on SparkPeople under the same name.

Many people think that simple remedies like elderberry, lemon, cayenne pepper are voodoo-like, but they don't know what they are missing.

Glad to have met you all.

Liz

Hi, this is Kat. I work as a medical transcriptionist, which inspired me to try to stay healthy as I do not want to end up like the people in the reports I type -- on 20 different kinds of medication, with hypertension, diabetes and kidney failure.

I had severe lower back problem and healed it through lifestyle modification, chiropractic care, etc.

Looking forward to making more friends!

Kat

Terri, it is GREAT to have you here! Being in the medical field, you can lend an interesting view on things! I agree with you, it is amazing how dependent we are on meds.

It is great to have you here with us and anytime you need/want to share something or have a question, please don't hesitate to post!

I saw this team on someone's page and just had to join.
I work in the medical field and it constantly amazes me how much our society depends on a medicinal approach that has been around for less than 75 years and YET will make fun of herbs that have been working for thousands of years.

go figure.

anyway, My name is Terri and I'm glad to be here!

Hi Debbie! Welcome to the team!
Okay you've got me curious. What do you have in your arsenal for fighting colds and flus?
I use echinecea, lemon, honey, orange juice, elderberry and also a tincture that was given to me by my acupuncturist who I LOVE dearly!!!
I love acupuncture, it does wonders!

hi everyone, my name is debbie and i'm so glad i found an active team pertaining to natural healing. looking forward to learning and sharing.

i don't take prescription meds and the last time i took an over the counter pain killer (ibuprophen) was almost 10 years ago for one day to help me walk with sciatica pain while traveling..and even then i waited until i couldn't stand the pain anymore.

since then i've learned a few things and have what i call my "arsenal of extracts" for the cold and flu season if anyone is interested. haven't suffered a cold or flu since i've started taking these extracts for the last 6 years.

happy holidays!

hi there all,
So where to begin? When I was about 23 I became extremely interested in herbs and their affect on the body.
By the time I was 27 I was seriously entertaining getting a certification as a Master Herbalist however the money involved held me back.
Fast forward, a bit. We moved from Northern NY to Alaska. By this point my knowledge of plants and their remedies was pretty good, I fell in love with Alaska and hubby and I decided that it might be a good time to start a fam.
The doctors were amazed with me because I started out my pregnancy pre eclamptic, and very unhealthy.
I ended with a somewhat normal bp and an extremely healthy and wonderful son, Nov 05.
I then proceeded down a dark and unhealthy path as my hubby was deployed to Iraq, I was by myself with my son, I was breastfeeding and lost a lot of weight. Fast, extremely fast due to simple lack of calories. I was eating about 800 calories each day. NOT good.
So now a bit more fast forward, DS and I moved to Fairbanks, hubby joined us shortly thereafter and then I put all the weight right back on.
I worked, full time as a Lead travel counselor which had numerous issues that lead to even MORE weight gain.
Now I am on leave of absence from my company, and slowly but surely healing from my experiences.
Now my biggest goal is to not lose weight as much but to heal and to become stronger mentally for the challenges ahead of us as we move from Alaska to Maryland.
I know this was a bit much, sorry.
good to join this group!!!

Wow! Welcome to the team! You're in the right place! I am glad that you are here with us -- going natural is a good way to get your body moving in the right way!

For that cold, start with some good vitamin C!!! I also swear by Wish Garden Herbs Kick A$$ Immune (that is really what it is called, lol) but it is a great blend of herbs (that taste awful but work great!!) that help boost your immune system.

Anytime you need anything or have any specific questions, feel free to do a new post in the team (Iam not sure how many are subscribed to this thread so you may not get quite as many resonses to this thread...).

Good luck with your venture!

Hey... recent move to Alberta. I'm interested in getting back to a more natural way of life. My mom has recently done this (and become gluten & wheat-free and is doing fantastic!). My body isn't functioning the way I want it to - and I am suffering with a recent thrombosis, asthma, allergies and right now, a wicked cold. Any help or direction on where to get started would be appreciated!

Hi :)
I'm so excited that this team exists. I am really interested in natural healing. Specifically, I love horticulture therapy and aromatherapy. I just put some essential oil in my diffuser that smells like honeysuckle! It brightens my day when I get a whiff of it. :)
Talk to you all soon!

HI All! I'm Tina. I'm an SAHM of 4 (one with Autism)and I am about to finish an online course- "Introduction to Natural Health and Wellness"
Herbology has always intrigued me (especially the way Native Americans used them in the past) and after taking this class I want to learn as much as I can.

Hi, I'm Ruth. I'm looking forward to joining the discussions on this team. I've been interested in natural healing for a long time: nutrition, homeopathy, herbs, Touch for Health, etc. Hope to meet some like-minded people! About me ... I'm a teacher, and I live with my husband and 3 kids (2 in college, 1 in high school), and a cat. I enjoy walking, cooking, reading, and writing.

Hi! My name is Missy... and every time I do one of these I feel like I'm at an AA meeting or something similar, even though I've never been lol.

In case you couldn't tell I have a goofy sense of humor, which gets me through a lot! I just found out today ...well.. *officially* anyway, that I'm pregnant with our second child, probably due in March, but I'm not good with math, and it's too soon to really know. :)

I recently moved to Wyoming, and absolutely love it out here.
I'm just starting to get into being more natural in my life.. trying to remove the things I don't need, and that are actually unhealthy for us. I will be the first to admit, that when it comes to medicine I'm kinda on the fence. I certainly am not an advocate of taking antibiotics when they aren't necessary, but I'm also a bit nervous about some of the alternatives on the market. I used to have a book of native american healing plants that I loved, but in one of my many moves over the past 5 years of my life it seems to have disapeared.

Hi, I'm a duck...quack! I'm also a pain in the ...well, you know. I like debating health issues, and I think we all (a good lot of us anyway) eat junk. I am pushy about educating people about the need to get back to eating what we were created to eat and helping them to even know what that means!! LOL I believe that if we stopped eating the packaged junk then the food manufactures would stop making it. Will it happen? I don't know, certainly not soon anyway. But still, I won't stop pushing the idea.
WE ARE IN CONTROL OF THE FOOD MARKET. We need to stop waiting for someone or something outside of our own bodies to fix things for us.
I need to do this in my own life!!

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it's a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they're terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Hi, I'm Bev. I have had it with doctor's that don't know squat about the crap they are recommending.
I have a few minor issues that sent me to a specialist. The specialist "treated" me for 9 months, and the result was more problems. Unable to diagnose the problem, he experimented with increasingly more expensive drugs. The original problem never once showed signs of getting better, and the last batch caused this already obese woman to gain an additional 40lbs in less than 2 months. I could barely manage the stairs (one flight) at home without pain in my legs, my chest, and panting. He was unconcerned with my racing heart at the tremendous amount of exercise I got crossing my livingroom.
Someone told me to try zinc suppliments to boost my immune system. When I asked him about it, he ignored me. So I tried some for 3 days and found improvement in my symptoms. So I took myself off the drugs.
That was in April. So far, I have lost 25lbs, can manage the stairs to my new 3rd floor walk-up apartment without my heart racing. There has been a gradual change in my symptoms and I feel more energetic than I did before I went to the doctor.
So I figure this is a good sign to go NATURAL!

Bev

Hello,

My name is trisha. I just joined the couple a couple days ago. I am very into natural healing and being outdoors. I have never been fond of medication. I think as a society we are way too trusting of doctors and drugs. We really have to educate ourselves more about what we are putting into our body and how to heal ourselves.

Do or do not, there is not inbetween.

Hello everyone! My name is Amber and I just joined the team. I am very interested in natural remedies and am looking forward to learning about them. I am against prescription drugs and have been for a while, but when I got a Urinary Tract Infection last December my doctor prescribed me Bactrim, a sulpha drug. I had a terrible reaction to it. Dizzy, nauseated, and the worst headache of my life. I never had a headache the first 23 years of my life and ever since taking this drug, I have had one constantly for the past 6 months. Doesn't go away. Does anyone know anything I could take or do to feel better? Thank you for any help. I look forward to connecting with everyone!

Hi,

I'm Shelly. I've been into natural healing for a while now. I am currently a massage therapy student and am interested in apprenticing with my chiropractor regarding alternative healing.

I've been working with him for about 4 years on issues it took me a long time to build up in my body.

This team looks great. See you around.

Hi everybody,

I have been sick for a very long time and need a different solution than what has been offered to me. I suffer from hypothyroidism, celiac disease, muticystic ovary syndrome, and infertility. I am tired of being told that I have to live with the way I feel. Not good enough. I want to feel good again. I am hoping to find help in correcting my problems the natural way.

Hi, Ellen and welcome to the team -- you will fit in great here. We all are pretty much the same. Food is scary, meds are scary and it is scary at how programmed society is to go get a toxic medicine to fix their needs or supress their symptoms rather then help their bodies through the foods that go into them and the supplements that can help.

Anytime you want to share something please post or if you have a question, please post!! This is a great team and their is a lot of great support here!!

Hi, my name is Ellen and I joined yesterday. I have been interested in Alternative medicine, herbs, homeopathy, and flower essences for quite a while.
Also eating as healthy as possible (food without hormones and chemicals)..I also take Chinese herbal medicines, to boost my immune system and Milk Thistle is wonderful for the liver. I have liver disease, and I know it helps.

I am glad to be amongst people who share my interests, and that I can learn from.

One day in the future, we will look at this Society and its medicine as the Dark Ages, I believe. Using medicines with side effects more toxic than the conditions they are supposed to help...using Radiation and Toxic chemicals to cure Cancer...and all the rest.

Well, that's all for now. Be well, everyone.
