Ahhh....we decided it was the opposite...here is how we have determined the food chain. From the lowly bottom...to the lowly top:

Door knob: Kinda just does nothing. No skills, social or technical. Friends ~ not even other door knobs want to hang.

Dork: No techie skills. Definitely no social skills. However, acts kinda goofy...and does not even know it. Friends ~ Has a couple...likely another dork. (I used to think I was here..but was told no!)

Nerd: Lots of useless knowledge, kinda skimpy on the social skills...but moving up the food chain. What phylum? Heh..see...this is where I land...knowledge...but none in the techie arena. Friends ~ Definitely other nerds. Some Geeks will befriend this person...but only because they themselves fear falling a notch and will need someone to watch their back if they do. However, geeks also think they can bring their auto-back-watching invention with them...they are wrong.

Geek: Top of the outcast food chain. What all others strive for (except door knobs...they don't know better). Techie skills AND knowledge. Ruthless combination. Social skills are better than the rest...unless they are in IT. Friends ~ likely few, as no one can understand their techno babble.

You may say I'm a dreamer...but I'm not the only one...

Probably geek. They tend to have info but aren't known for skills. Nerds seems to generally have a skill set involved (ie computer nerd).

Moving forward, even if slowly is still good I am thinking. Kinda like that tortoise and hare thing. And besides...for a marathon...it's endurance anyway! (Ok...I don't know too much about marathons...but am thinking that)

I also need to re-read though some of these posts...there was something in here that was utterly geeky...that a friend of mine would have enjoyed...we once had a HUGE discussion on geek vs. nerd. vs dork. I always thought I fell on the dork boat...but we decided I was of the nerd varietal. My friend was much higher up the food chain and on the geek pedestal!

I'm in engineering...civil...transportation to be more specific. I design roads.

And thanks for the mariculture info...cool. I cannot grasp that many crabs...or anything really! (well..actually, I can grasp the concept of enough concrete to build a road from Oregon to D.C..so I should just kinda substiute concrete for seafood!)

Lorenver ~ how is the marathon training going?

Welcome SCMARKS79! I'm glad GHK asked about mariculture so I didn't have to! I am vaguely familiar with aquaculture but had never heard the term. Here's to getting you ready for swim suit season! We just started an October self challenge to feel free to join!

Mariculture is aquatic farming to a very large degree. I am hoping to work with invertebrates. I would be trying to maximize the amount of "crab" (for example) that I can breed and grow in one 20,000 gallon tank without destroying the natural balance of the ecosystem that I have established. About 80% of all the U.S seafood comes from aquaculture of some kind. I want to contribute to saving the environment by providing a food that keeps people from using "wild" resources. What field are you in GHK?

Hiya SCMARKS79 ~ sounds pretty cool what you're going to be doing. May I ask a little on the Mariculture thing? I am guessing it has something to do with water...but that is all I know.

I am a college student that is headed to graduate school to specialize in Mariculture. I am tired of being uncomfortable in my skin. I will be in the water a lot and don't want to hate getting into a bathing suit every time I need to do it. Hopefully, next year I will be living at the beach for graduate school so will have to face the dreaded bathing suit a lot. I would also love to be able to keep up with my very energetic 6 year old and be as playful as I used to be. I look forward to being around like minded people through this process.
