Hello. I just wanted to talk about my how my life has changed this last year. Let me start of by saying that this is becoming an unfrequented chat site so I'm not to encouraged to use it. If you want to talk to me sparkmail me. I check it pretty frequently and I replay back to what ever I'm sent. I'm currently living in Windsor, CT as I was offered a job at Coherent laser in Bloomfield, CT. For now my hopes of getting a MS is dashed for now because I believe I should focus more on paying of my loans first. Yes when I was a student I did a large amount of networking the best thing it gained me was friends and encouragement. As I've only been living in the Hartford area for just over a month I haven't learned how to work the networking crowd yet. But since I'm working I'm not all that interested in it. At this point I'm missing the buzz of college life, and am hoping that figuring how to do some simple home electronics experimentation would cheer me up. I occupy most of my free time with exercise. I currently walk about 10 miles a day on weekdays and also jumprope quite often. The average cal for my work out is between 1000 and 2000 cal. I've posted some of my work out videos on my facebook. You can find me using my name John S Watson and the college I graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology. I'll gladly except your friendship.

Hi, WATSONJ31 - couldn't resist saying hi to a STCC grad. I'm a teacher in Springfield.
And I agree with you about networking. From the hiring side of the equation, I know I am much more comfortable trusting someone to work with my kids if they come recommended by someone I already know and trust.
Good luck to you both with your job hunting.

I'm also a recent eng grad. in 2011 I graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology, (WIT) in Boston, MA, with a BS in Electronics Eng Technology. I've actually been in the field of manufacturing for over 10 years as I'm a returning to college student. My career first began in 1999 when I graduated with an AS in Electrical Eng Tech from Springfield Technical Community College STCC. After that I worked in various entry level manufacturing technician positions. Than in 2005 I decided that a BS degree would open the doors for promotional opportunity. So I decided to complete a BS at WIT.
I too find myself searching very hard for a position that will accept me. The best thing I can say for is to network and apply to anything and everything that even vaguely fits your qualifications. By network I mean meeting with national networking associations such Society of electrical and electronic engineers, and many others. Also use linkedin as it is very helpful with getting your profile noticed. People must know your name to be interested in you as an individual and that maybe very influential in a decision to hire you. Nothing will be accomplished by locking yourself in a room and just applying on a computer like crazy. You must work with people to expand your network base. Be very open to relocation by starting off in a shared living situation as companies are getting very territorial about how close there workers live.
WIT does also have an electro-mechanical major that offers a biomedical eng minor. The college is so small that many of the majors take classes together. So I've studied with many students that graduated with different majors including biomedical.
I've been active on Sprakpeople for over 5 years but haven't used for much else that occasionally chatting on these boards, planning some meals and planning my exercise routines.
