No, I don't see myself as a grad student. I like to think I've gotten good enough at learning that I usually don't need a formal teacher any more. That said, I'm thinking about going back to school to study test design - partly going back for the degree because I can imagine wanting to work for a state testing and accountability office. Common Core's got some great stuff in it, but if we just keep assessing progress with multiple choice number crunching, all we'll really teach is multiple choice number crunching. My kids will become almost as smart as a $5 calculator, and that's just what we need, right?

So GRebJack, does that mean you see yourself as a grad student forever? You are always learning and working WAY to hard.

Oh ... I don't think the way our Spark name came about is boring at all GRebJack (see...now I can put the capitals in the correct place!)

I totally fell for it - looked it up before I finished reading your post! (how depraved is that?) and was thinking "what's wrong with a mother goddess?"

My name is boring too. When my district first started getting emails for teachers, back in 1994 when that was a thing, we got them through a local university. IDs could only be eight letters long (remember those early DOS days?) so everyone's ID was G for grad student, then the first three letters of your first name, and the first four letters of your last. Rebecca Jackson is such a boringly common name, that no easily memorized version of it is ever available, but GRebJack always is.

That was hilarious. It had me ROFL. I needed a good laugh too, it was a hectic rough day @ work, arrived home at 11:45 pm. I have been thinking of changing my username to yet another goddess name--not sure which. May do that for the new year.

ELYMWX - Just read that post ... and commented. I will just say that great minds think alike ... and that's why sometimes blog posts appear to be similar. And sometimes ... there's others, like me, that accidentally post a blog similar to those with great minds ... heh

ASHERAH38 - oh. my. goodness! I looked that goddess up. I don't think I can even say what she is the goddess of without going blind. Ack!

Hehehe ... just kidding, I did look it up and saw she was the Mother Goddess or something. I figured I'd give Loren and the others a little scare haha. (And this is why I don't get invited to parties ... my stoopid sense of humor.)

Loren - I think I knew that about your Sparky name .... but had forgotten.

Elymwx,

I too needed a pseudonym for gaming when I was younger, it's a good idea.
Mine is a play off verloren (lost in bablefish German-for those that remember bablefish) swapped for a first and last name Loren Ver.

LOL. No formulas/ spreadsheets and flowcharts--althought that could have been fun too. I was reading up on goddess mythology at the time and became really intrigued in the subject and of course read up on it extensively :-) Anyways, Asherah is one of the goddesses I came across so I chose it for my username and I was 38 at the time, hence ASHERAH38.

My username's origin is soooooo incredibly, wildly, super-duper ...

Boring.

The initials of my name and my birth year.

(I wonder if I change it ... would it keep all my stuffs on here? Or would posts get deleted? And ... would people not recognize me? Would the friend thingy drop everyone and get me dropped? And more importantly, what would I change my username too? I am sure 'Awesome Silent Ninja of Death" is already taken.)

Sooo ... I'm wondering what's the story behind some of the usernames I see. How'd we pick them? Is there a story? Is it a secret? (If it is, no worries on not divulging!)

Or ... was it chosen by a cool formula generated in a spiffy spreadsheet, then data tested against other usernames to compare its coolness?

For my part ....
