emoticon Rodger,

As with most of what we do, one step at a time. Look at your progress, not at how far you have to go. Be proud of what you have accomplished.

We're here to support and encourage you, just as we need you to cheer us on. emoticon

My name is Rodger
I will turn 59 next week
I am Married for 36 plus years
I have 3 grown children, all married with children (2 ladies, and 1 man) ages 37-28
We have 7 grandchildren (4 girls, 3 boys)
I live south of Kansas City, Missouri (USA)
I am employed full time (statistician, I work at computer all day)
I am a born again Christian
Through God all things are possible.

I have been overweight since age 11
Obese since age 15
Morbidly obese since age 35
I have tried many, many diets
I have lost over 500 pounds over the years, and diets
My health and mobility is severely effected
I have many health problems besides the obesity
I had gallbladder removed at age 32, I had my first heart attack in 1999, my second in 2004. I have had 4 cardiac caths with stent placement 3 times, I have had 2 episodes of AFib, I have herniated discs in neck and lower back, I have CAD, arthritis in right knee (bone on bone), High cholesterol, previous high blood pressure ( had an allergic reaction to BP medicine after more than 20 years of taking it), My blood pressure has remained normal since that health scare. I have a few other smaller issues but they are just little ones.

I went to my cardiologist in early December 2018 for my semi annual checkup, she was pleased with the fact that my Blood Pressure seemed to be in check without medication, she was happy that there had been no worsening of my leaking mitral valve. Her biggest concern was my weight. This has been a major concern of hers for years. I have asked her many times what diet she would recommend as I had tried so many with no lasting results. She never had been willing to give me any direction on a plan that might stick long term. Once again I was ready to leave the appointment discouraged and with no idea where to go from there. The doctor's nurse came back in to give me discharge paper work and instructions, we began to talk about what the Doctor had told me. The nurse said that she was not a doctor , but that she had many friends that had very good results and had maintained their weight loss by eating keto. She said she could give me a couple of websites to check out.

This was early December. I checked the websites that she had given me, and was pleased with the information I was seeing. I decided that I would wait until after the Holidays before I would start this way of eating. I started Keto on January 2, 2019. My weight when I started was my highest weight ever 503.9 pounds. I was amazed with the results in the first couple of weeks ( I realize that most of the weight loss was water weight ), but my pain and inflammation seemed to be less. I decided at the end of the second week that I wanted to try intermittent fasting to go along with keto. I have been doing 18/6 IF since then, yesterday was my first 24 hour fast. I am still very pleased with how all of this is going. To this point I have lost a little over 40 pounds. I still have much weight to go, but I am very optimistic. I am aware that the loss may slow down, but I did not get this big overnight, I do not expect to lose it overnight either.

1 year ago I was on 13 prescriptions a day. I am now on 5 prescriptions a day. my pain is much better (I still have pains but they are tolerable). I am hoping as more weight comes off that I will be able to increase my activity level. I am shooting eventually to get down to 165-180 pounds. My biggest goal is to be healthier, be more active, and be around to see my grandkids grow to adults.

I know that I have made this post longer, but I wanted to let you all know why I am here. I am appreciative of any, help, suggestions, advise, or friendship that is created here.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.
