Boy, to hear Wichita papers talk, sounds like Boeing won't be long for the world, once all the lawyers get through with them. Last I heard though, Boeing is gonna send down some of the software that was "for extra pay" will now be part of the base price of the plane.

As for "all Max 8's being grounded"... I suppose Southwest Airline attendant shusshing you up had more to do with their pilots already being familiar with the Max 8 sensors and/or their company had ponied up for the extra safety features, so their pilots were already trained??

Fluttering right along, I thought the butterfly analogy to our topics was pretty close to reality. In Branson, MO there is a tourist attraction called "The Butterfly Palace", and it is cool to walk around on their top floor/rooftop type covered atrium (I forget what they called it) with the gorgeous butterflies all flitting around. There are Keepers walking around with scoops, bringing out new butterflies as they get hatched from their cocoons and to scoop up the ones that finally crash and die. Evidently their life cycle as a butterfly is less than a week for most breeds...just long enough to get their egg payload delivered to a safe place where they can do their larvae and cocoon and all for the next generation. I was not aware of all that when this beautiful blue butterfly landed and then keeled over in front of me... I thought I had killed it somehow?? I didn't realize I was looking at an old geezer geriatric butterfly - it looked so young and pretty!!

Oy.

I am lucky I exercise 5-6 times a week. some day I will take my dog for a walk -- rather than he taking his owner (me) for a walk.

I never saw any turns in topic as "hijacking." It's the normal course of conversation. How long can a discussion of how to cook eggs and whether people even like eggs continue? Somethin's gotta give, as the song says. Only one time that I can recall was an initial post ignored. That wasn't good. (Nu was not the culprit.)

I am a well-known thread hijacker. It's the way my brain works.

If the side thread becomes meritorious enough, I might take it out and create a thread of its own.

Knowingly not including an essential part in a car or jet, where the missing part may lead to death, seems inherently criminal to me. Maybe within US law it isn't, but it should be. Gross negligence or something. (I can more easily go Talmudic with this - I'd have to consult with Richard on the legal ramifications.)

Smiley, welcome to our team. The various directions of this thread are really typical for our conversations here at Spark Jews! Posts get hijacked all the time, so be happy we are treating you like mishpacha already!

I thought you might, Gwyn. Something to shoot for.

Phebe, they just do not care. The last time it was an auto manufacturer, and the part was something like $0.58. Not optional equipment, but something that needed to be included. They hedged their bets, as I recall, by doing a cost analysis and how many lawsuits would still make it worthwhile to exclude the part.

I think this was the case:

I think they figured out that some warning light was considered "an extra" for the Max 8s purchased by non-US airlines. Which is why the pilots seemed to not know that there was a problem until it was too late.

When is a safety feature considered an extra that has to be paid for separately????? How insane is that???? And how immoral and unethical!!!!!

So you think those Boeing planes are grounded, huh? Really and truly, like the news reports say? All of them? Well, earlier today I pulled this out of the seat pocket in front of me. Walking off the plane, I said to a flight attendant "I thought all of these planes are grounded." Her response: "ssshhh!"

Smiley Mom, this is exciting. We haven't had a new person (I don't recognize your screen name from your first go-round) in a while and it's been longer than that since a new person remained active in the team.

He's just Mark. Don't call him "Boss." It's not good for him.

This is a good group, so pull up a chair.

P.S. Have you thought of starting a band called Smiley Mom and the Minyan?

Hey, Gwyn (side note to Smiley: This is how we get off topic): Did you see that 71-year old man who set a world's record for the plank? He did it at your JCC. Maintained a plank for over 40 minutes. Was nice to read. Gives me hope for my old age.

HI I am Gwyn (short for Gwyneth) from Minneapolis Minnesota. My spark name is GwynLee--I combined my first and last name (Leder is my last name and it is pronounced Leader as in follow the Leader). My husband's aunt and her family made alliyah in 1969 -- she passed away about 1-1/2 years ago, her husband a long time ago. Her son lives in Haifa and her daughter lives in German,

It tends to be seasonal. I usually post Aish's version of Noah communicating with G-d via text for Passover. Still cracks me up every year, and some here have yet to see it. Others have put up the Maccabeats, as well as riffs on more contemporary fare in time for the holidays. Fun!

Here's one I particularly love:

Thank you so much! This team is so welcoming.
Yes, they do keep me busy - and happy and smiley (hence my screen name). They range in ages from my oldest daughter (23 and married) to my baby son who's 16 months. I'm a grandmother, too - my daughter has 3 little boys, her oldest and her third are the same ages as my two youngest. So yeah, it's hopping around here but we're loving it emoticon

Yes, the discussions can be challenging at times, but we do try and keep it respectful. The food discussions are much easier. emoticon

Sandy (SPORTSPHOTOG) is correct: Mark (BOSS61) is a curmudgeon, but is a sweetheart where it counts.

I think you will find us an interesting group. And "fresh blood" is always welcome.

Welcome (and welcome back)! We are a diverse group, covering the whole Jewish spectrum, along with a couple of non-Jews who like the intellectual stimulation (as told to me).

We hang out primarily on the discussion boards. Feel free to jump in anywhere, or create a new topic that interests you.

All the best as you continue on your journey to better health,

Nu
