Hello, I live in Qubec. I am 65 and am currently unable to ride, but I have a registered Quarter Horse mare that hubby and I have owned since 2010. She is 17 years old. We dont compete anymore, we used to do barrels and other gymkhana stuff back 8n prehistoric times. We had sold everything back some 30 years ago, because when my kids arrived we could no longer afford it it. Our mare was just green broke when we found her (at 8 years old) but hubby trained her and she could do Western dressage now, but we dont want to show. This is my favourite picture of our mare

Hello everyone! I'm donna. Born in South Dakota, raised all over and settled in Florida. I never had horses growing up, never ever rode them, but one year for our anniversary my husband bought me a mare and her filly (long, funny story I'll have to share when I have more time). That didn't work out too well and I only had them about 1 year. Now I have 2 new horses. Arwen is 9 years old and was another anniversary gift. Bailey is about 16. I went looking for tack one day. At a yard sale a woman told me she'd sell me all she had but I had to take the horse too. I don't ride very well or as often as I would like but I sure do love them. Nothing makes a bad day better than heading out to the barn to talk with the girls. They never judge me or criticize, they just listen and give me love!

Hi QH Lovers! Im Fern, originally from Western South Dakota. My family homesteaded north of Belle Fourche, SD and still ranches there. I grew up in Belle and nearby Spearfish. Now, Im in Arizona. My hubby and I moved to the Phoenix area 2 years ago after being in Colorado for 22 years. My bay gelding is a Senior Ex-Ranch Quarter Horse.Shi Beau Socks (aka Bart aka El Jefe Grande Spanish for the big boss, not that we are Spanish just that hes a big bossy guy LOL.) Being a senior horse has slowed him only a little. Hes still sound and fit as a fiddle.

Last year I started getting serious about improving my riding skills and really increased the number of hours I was spending in the saddle. During these hot months in AZ we cant ride unless you want to get up at 4 a.m. which is just not my style ;-). So, Ive decided to put my time to very good use by starting a robust exercise planP90X. I hope to lose some of my muffin-top (or all of it, thats ok too), increase my strength and flexibility. I think if I can accomplish those things it will help me to become a much improved rider.

I joined SparkPeople in 2010 but just last week actually researched what the website was all about and realized it is awesome! The motivational aspect of the site and the game of getting SparkPoints, Trophies, and giving myself kudos is just my style.

I plan to participate in AHQA & ACTHA rides as well as other ranch type events as I meet people here in AZ and get more involved. emoticon

Just joined the group. I am 31 years old from western South Dakota. I have a coming 4 year old gelding YO Hancock N Silver (aka: Tonka) that I absolutely adore. My first horse I bought on my own. Growing up on a ranch my parents always kept me well mounted, then when I went off to college got married and moved away I just rode one of thiers when I made it back. Once we moved back to SD, I started watching the local breeder sales, fell in love with Tonka from the first pic, loved what I saw during the sale preview and bought him on our sixth wedding anniversary 8-28-11. We have been having some growing pains lately and had his stifles blistered in March to which he reacted correctly just to an extreme degree and has been sore ever since. That will continue to get better as the almond oil is absorbed by his body. However, since he was sore and didnt want to move around he has developed soreness in one of his hocks and to top it all off ulcers. I am treating him for the ulcers which he is already doing much better, that has also helped him to want to move around more which helps the therapy for his stifles and his hock. He also has had one session and is scheduled for a follow up with a chiropractor/massage therapist as he is just a little ball of tightness. I am slowly working on his conditioning and therapy, longer lunging sessions each day with turn out time (though he prefers to walk around sniff things out and watch what is going on around him rather than run and play) and then we will graduate to driving and finally riding once I am confident that he is stable enough to handle his weight and mine again. Still have a long road ahead of us but he is such a sweet heart and is so patient and truly a joy to be around.

~ Tanna ~

When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place.

Hello Horse Lovers! I am 54 years old and live in southern Illinois. I grew up on a farm with a horse and pony, but I never got to show or take them trail riding. About 20 years ago, my husband and I got our children involved with horses and it was reliving my childhood all over again! It has been pure fun for me to help my children ride and show their horses. We joined a local riding club and my kids also did all the 4-H shows. They participated in all the classes. Presently we own 3 QHs and 1 Paint. I enjoy trail riding with my 9 year old Hickory bred QH gelding. At one time in my life I really wanted my kids to show at AQHA shows, but I soon found out how extremely competitive (and expensive) they are. I am glad that my children have learned good horsemanship skills and had the opportunity to grow up with horses. Now I feel like it is my turn to have more time with my horse and focus on my riding. I want to do more trail riding, especially overnight rides, with my friends. I want to be fit and healthy to be the best rider I can be.

The most important thing in life is what happens next.

Hi I'm Sam from Ohio. Although I shouldn't have favorites among my "kids", I have to say that my 97 mare Watch Me Can Can aka: Bob holds a special place in my heart as I raised her from a baby, showed her sucessfully and then bred her to a Royal King Foundation stallion. The result of that match is Heze With Me, aka: Pete. Pete and I have also been sucessful in the show pen in halter and showmanship and I hope to be riding him soon. (Just need to lose a few more pounds) He is double registered Quarter Pony at 14.1 h and although he probably could carry my current weight...It sure wouldn't be pretty. lol. My third horse is an Appy mix that I rescued several years ago. Wendy has some lameness issues but she is just a joy to be around. She is the only one who never does anything wrong, the other two are complete clowns! Ha-Ha.

Hi I am Shelly,
I live in Australia.
I currently don't have a QH but I have leased a bay QH mare and I have bred her to a cremello QH stallion.I am hoping to show and do reining.

I have 6 horses at the moment, 4 of them are rescue horses. I have a Welsh B pony, an Australian Stock Horse, and 4 standardbreds.

I mostly do trail riding, at least until I loose weight and can start back at competitions. In the past I bred and showed appaloosa horses.

I have always lacked motivation to stick to any weight loss effort but I have to this time if am going to do reining.

Cheers

P.S Oh yeah.....foalie is due Nov 25.

Hi from Eastern WA!
My name is Birgit and we have a 12 year-old quarter horse mare named Blue. My daughter and I share her and there are few things we haven't done with her other than showing. Our horse loves chasing cows and eating and snuggling, I love dressage, liberty work and trail riding and jogging with my horse, my daughter loves barrels and bridleless riding and jumping and grooming. We all love obstacle courses and games. We mostly love the wonderful connection we have with our sweet girl.
Looking forward to meeting more quarter horse lovers and finding out what they do with their horse to get fit. emoticon

It's great to see other horse folks on here!

I'll soon be 42 and have 7 horses including a coming 5yr old QH stallion I'm trying to season and bring along. I work full time and then try to train on 5 of ours and it's hard to get it all in!

I've shown hunter, pleasure, halter and barrels. It's been a few years since I've run barrels and I have 2 that I'd like to start on barrels this year & 1 I want to bring further along -- thus the reason for getting more serious.

Last year we started cow work & Ranch shows and I'm wanting to do more of that this year. We've shown our stallion in halter but my goal is to show him under saddle this year. He had an injury to his rear legs so he's getting a later start.

I also write some and am working on a couple of books and to finish one of those is my goal for 2011.

I want to lose 50 pounds so that I can be competitive with my small horses. But I'm also getting older and still riding young horses and still break colts from time to time so I need to be quick on my feet! LOL

I've always been strong and fit in that regards but never been thin. I'm learning more and more that I'm an emotional eater and this is a real battle. I need all the help and motivation I can get! So it's good to see others with the same issues and struggles.

Greetings! My name is Jennifer and I am new to this site. I am hoping to find support and understanding with my weight loss goals. I currently have 4 quarter horses and show a homebred mare on the AQHA shows Novice Amateur circuit. I am a stay at home mom so sometimes finding riding time is a challenge but I do try.

My first QH gelding is 17 and I have had him since he was a weanling. His name is We Go Bar Dancin and he is mainly foundation bred. I trained him myself and we do anything from jumping to cutting. We mainly use him now for an extra guest horse when someone comes over to ride.

My second Mare is named Ima Mystical Chic and she is the mother to my show mare, Roxanne. Ima is 15 years old and I have also owned and trained her since she was a weanling as well. Both Ima and Dan were my 4-H horses back in the day.

My show horse, Ima Delux TNT Chic, aka Roxanne is an 8yo mare. She goes in any class where I can stay on:) We mainly show all around and she really loves cow work too! We trail ride together a lot when I can get away from the family for a little while.

My next gelding I have only had since March of '10. His name is Delux Diamonds and he is a 5 yo black gelding. He wasn't started until I bought him in March and is coming along nicely but still needs more wet saddle blankets before he is ready to make a show debut. With a little more time I think he will make a great horse someday.

I really want to succeed at losing weight so I won't be the "fat girl stuffed in chaps" out in the ring. Those of you who show know what I mean:) If you have any advice or encouragement I would love to hear some kind words!
Thanks and I look forward to making new friends via this site:)
Jennifer

Hello!! My name is Crystal,Im from Ohio, I have 5 QH and a grade paint, all geldings. I use them for barrels, trail riding, showing, and I used to team rope.
My main horse is Norman (Guys Little Man) a dark bay. He is my barrel and pole horse, I have also used him in the extreme cowboy race.
I also have Cowboy, a 11 yr old gelding I have raised from a baby, he is a pain in the rear lol, hes always in your business.
All my horses can be used for just about anything, as I like to have horses that will do it all, and handle anything.

Hi, my name in Trina and I own a foundation quarterhorse named Joker, or should I say he owns me. Joker was my midlife crises, actually therapy for my midlife crises. I had spent a lot of time taking care of my mother and children. After the kids were married off my mother required a lot more time (she had alzheimers). The decision for her to go into a nursing home was really really hard, I felt really guilty that I was giving up on trying to take care of her. Along with the guilt, I had a big void in my life as to what to do, I had time to just goof off. That is the time I went on a trail ride and fell in love with horses again. I had not been on a horse since I was a teenager. Well, it wasn't long before I wanted a horse of my own again. I leased a horse for awhile. One day I was grooming the horse that I thought was the one I was supposed to ride and was told that it was a three year old stallion and that I had the wrong horse. Bummer, he was really sweet and behaved well through the grooming. Not sure what he would have done if I would have put a saddlle on at that point. A few weeks later I was talking to the lady who owns the ranch, I said I wanted to buy my own horse. She advised me to obtain an old 20 year old horse, quarterhorse and a gelding. I insisted that I did not want an old horse as I planned on growing old with my horse. I felt that if I lost a horse in five years I would just give up on riding. Finally she gave in and said she might have the horse for me if I really insisted on a young horse. It was Joker. He was scheduled to be cut in a couple weeks and was being trained. He seemed to have a mellow personality even as a stallion and he came from good stock. Well I got a quarterhorse, he was gelding but he was a 3 year old. Two out of three aint bad. He was really awesome and filled a place in my life that had a big hole. My favorite past time now, as you may have guessed is riding. He is six this summer. He trailers well and we do a lot of trail riding. If we trailer up we ride three to four hours at a time. Sometimes I just take the dog and we ride an hour on the ranch I board at. Guess I am answering two forums at one time as I was supposed to be introducing myself but am explaining why I have the breed I have.
I am 52, have a son and a daughter, a 2 year old grandson and a wonderful husband. I own a Home Decor store which allows me to have more free time in the nice weather. I work a lot between November and March. I really need to get into shape as I am having a hard time keeping up.
well, enough for now. Looking forward to being an active member on this team.

Hello everyone! My name is Angela and I am from southwest Iowa. I am working on restarting my sparkpeople plan, staying within 1200-1500 calories and trying to work in exercise.

I have a blue roan quarter horse names Smooth Dell (Dell for short) and an Old English Sheep Dog named Althea (Allie). I am working with Dell on Cowboy Mounted Shooting. We are starting from the very beginning. I would love to take her back out on trail rides, but my time is so consumed between work, full time school, my personal business, and family and friends, I rarely have enough time to do everything else I want to do.

I am hoping that SparkPeople will help me regain confidence and energy. I am looking forward to learning about this group. Thank you for your time.

Hello Everyone, I'm retired, having raise my family of 5 children. Have ridden all my life from age of 6. Hauled my daughter and Grandchildren to shows. I have 3 AQHA horses. I accomplished one of my bucket list-to-do-in 2000 by qualifying my horse to the AQHA world show. Never in my life did I think I would ever own such a nice horse. He also won me AQHA Rookie of the year from my state. I am now content to do lots of trail riding.

Hi everyone! I'm Toria, from Asheville NC. I'm a kindergarten teacher. No kids, just two big dogs and a horse.

I started riding 20 years ago but only just last year did I finally get my own horse! He was given to and he's the best first horse ever. We thought he was 15 but lo and behold, turns out he's 25. No one can believe it though, he looks and acts much younger! He's got a quarter horse racing tattoo but never raced much. Spent most of his life has a hunter/jumper show horse. His name is Mikey and he's a beautiful copper penny colored chestnut!

I teach english riding lessons in my spare time and also love to go hiking in our beautiful mountains, running, playing in creeks and rivers, spending time with our dogs and my husband and our friends, and we love to travel.

A 2nd horse is in the plans for the next couple of years since Mikey can't jump forever. But I do love quarter horses and would love my 2nd horse to be another quarter horse or appendix.

Glad to be here!

Hi team, My name is Tabetha (Tabby), my husband and I currently have 11 QH and 3 on the way. We specialize in Foundation Bloodlines and we are supposed to breed to sell, but with 4 kids we find it very hard to part with anyone....lol Our horses are called pocket ponies for a reason. You can go all day working cattle and then come home and plop the 4 year old one and our horses think this is normal. Very hard working and family oriented. Our stock was started by my beloved late father in law, who said that his horses must be able to work for and with the family. Thanks so much, I look forward to reading all of your posts.

Carrie - Where are you from in Ohio? I'm from Marysville, went to Ohio Northern Univ., transferred, and graduated from Ashland Univ. in May '01. Did you show OQHA? I was mostly KQHA while I was in youth and with Cathy Woosley, but OQHA for the last year that I showed while working with Duane and Heidi Piper.

I can definitely relate to having to sell when going to college. Over ten years since I had to sell my beloved Lime Cooler to go away to school, and I am still trying to heal from the loss. (Kind of a long story - I'll get into it at some point and share with the Team, but I'm just not ready yet...) But basically, I feel your withdrawl.

Great to see you on here!!

Hey everyone, I'm Carrie, I'm a 21 year old college student from Ohio. I got my first pony when I was 8 and then got my "real show horse" when I was 12...Kay Cee's A Star (Kay Cee Leaguer baby), but I had to sell him after I went to college because I went to school 300 miles away and wasn't home often enough to ride him. I definitely want to get another quarter horse as soon as I'm able to! :)

Hi Everyone
I am glad to find this team. I am currently horseless so will be getting my daily therapy, everything horses that is, (better then)from all of your posts. I had to sell our last hold out, Splash My Face a supper QH, when we moved the last time and leave for work at 6am and get home at 6pm or later. I teach special education at the high school level and could really use the horse time so am looking for someone around here to offer my help just to be around the critters. Keep all the news coming.

Hi ya'll, I'm Marcina and my Qtr horses are Tia, Flash (actually Sonita's Finest) and Reno. When the weather gets better in KS and they don't look like polar bears, I will take some pics to post of them. Flash is sorrel and the others are palomino. They are my version of a psychiatry couch. I am an ER nurse and when work has me on overload, I go to the barn and they listen intently (with the help of apple or peppermint treats) to all of my woes. I am so excited that spring is close and it is time to get the trailer ready for camping & riding. Happy trails to all of you. I have belonged to sparkpeople for awhile but never knew how to use it so I am looking for help to loose 50 - 60 pounds!

Hi everyone, I'm Brittany and I have a Quarter Horse Thoroughbred mix. He's been in the AQHA magazine for winning the 2007 chariot race. =) His name is Buck, or Plenty of Bux if you want to look it up. Anyways, I worked with him while he was racing but a little while ago he bowed his tendon. The boss gave him to me so that he wouldn't have to go to slaughter. Now comes the fun part, retraining him. He's been ridden with a hackamore but we wont be rushing into anything just yet.

My love for fantasy shall be the death of me.

Hi my name is Dawn. I live in Minnesota with my husband, two children, several dogs, cats and 6 horses. My son rides a bashkir curly,I ride a quarter horse and my husband rides his beloved long ears(mule). We also have a poa, another grade quarterhorse type and my old quarter horse that I have had for 27 yrs. He is missing most of his teeth so we had to feed him alfalfa cubes soaked in water and pelleted feed. It was very expensive and luckily a freind offered to try grinding hay bales in his feed grinder. It worked great! I don't think I could have continued to feed him without a more economical solution.

Hello! My Name is Rhonda. I Just started on SP about a month ago so I'm still getting used to all this. I am from Alberta, Canada. I have 2 Horses. One is an appendix Quarter Horses, shes a beautiful rabicano. (For those of you who don't know, a Rabicano, it's like a roan palomino) She's 7. I also have a black an white paint, who I sadly have to put down, He got extremely bad ringbone, which just keeps getting worse, and I just don't think that he needs to suffer through the winter so I'm soon to have only 1 horse..

Hello. I see some familiar sparkers here from perusing other horse teams. So happy to have found a QH Lovers team, though!

I have 3 reg. foundation quarter horses who live at home with me. 2 mares and a gelding. I wish I had found SparkPeople sooner as I'm in dire need but so grateful to have finally heard about it. Sadly, I stopped riding my horses when I gained a lot of weight. My goal here is to be in riding shape again before spring. And what fun to have the bonus of meeting others with shared interests and goals.

Thanks for starting this team!

Hi! My name is Amy. Not sure I why I didn't find this group originally when I signed up for SP. I am owned by two horses. Casey (aka Watch Cowboy Zip) is my beloved quarter horse boy. He's 8, was once someone's throw away horse and my pony love. Maddie is 16 and an Arab/Andalusian cross that my eldest child rides. I live up a mountain on a farm outside of the Portland, OR area, in the heart of Oregon Wine Country. I'm also a co-leader for RiderPlus. So come check us out!

WTTS Challenge Team Bahama Mamas~ Melting Ice and Weight in 2010!

Your biggest challenge isnt someone else. Its the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs, and the voice inside you that yells, "CANT", but you dont listen. You just push harder. And then you hear the voice whisper "can" and you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.

Hey everybody. My name is Lisa. I live outside of Grants Pass Or. I have 2 horses. My buddy is a 12yo AQHA named Red. The other is a 3yo QH/morganX named Cayden. I have had horses my whole life. I used to HS Rodeo, run barrels at the local rodeos and train problem horses. But life has caught up with me and so has weight so I am looking to get healthy, not just for myself but for my poor guy Red so he doesnt have to struggle to carry my big ass around. Thank goodness there are such great teams on sparkpeople to keep me motivated.Have an awesome day! emoticon

Each day is a new canvas to paint upon. Make sure your picture is full of life and happiness, and at the end of the day you don't look at it and wish you had painted something different. **Author Unknown**

Hi! Sorry it took so long to reply!!
It's good to have another military wife out there who understands how it is!!
My horse was pretty old when I first got married. So, I left her in the care of this really sweet elder couple who had their own barn and showered her with love and care. It was so hard to leave her but I felt that it was not good for her to do all of the traveling! There is a barn on post here at Fort Knox. They pretty much have a stable on each and every post that we have been stationed at (except Germany). I am currently on the look out for a good horse now. I am looking to lease right now because I don't really want to do all the moving with a horse...so very stressful on the horse and me as well!! I am leaning towards a Quarter Horse for my little girls to start out with.
Until we are settled and my hubby retires from the Army I'm kind of going to take the easy way out and go the leasing route. But then again...as everyone in this group knows...there may just be that one horse that grabs me and leasing won't cut it and I will buy her/him!!

Ok good news on my biggest boy Timmy. The vet did a scope on him and he isn't ulcerated in this throat but he will have to have a change of diet for the rest of his life to prevent choke from happening again...Whew.. emoticon

Hi Karen I know what it is like to be a military wife and I understand about having to give up your horse. They don't have any stables that you could board at either on post or off post?

Hello! My name is Karen and my husband and I are stationed at Fort Knox, KY. With my husband being in the Army I had to give up my horse which was a very sad moment! I have two daughters who love horses and took lessons in Germany and will start here (when we find a good place[just moved here]). I do plan on getting a horse in future so I'm looking for that special horse for my daughters!

Hi my name is Lisa and I have 2 Qtr horses along with 5 others breeds (TB,Paint,Saddlebred/Holstiner). Their names are Snap, Thumper are the qtr horses. Legs, Jerry, Cliff are my TB's and Timmy is the cross and Luke is the paint--my baby
Thumper and Snap are related through the fathers line and both are foundation registered bays.
Thumper is used by my husband for reining. They both are still in the beginning stages...the horse is trained by the husband is just learning I should say.Thumper is now a 10 year old boy...
Snap is my horse and I am undecided what he is going to be used for. I am leaning towards cutting with him. He seems to have a nack for it when I have been playing around to see his strength's and weaknesses. Snap is 7 now and hopefully like his counter partner in crime (Thumper) he will start to mellow out more and more.
When I first started riding Snap (4yrs) he was just as devilish as Thumper was at his age...they both were handful's.

Congrats to you! I'm 42 1/2, and I'm still hoping to have my own horse someday. Right now a half-lease works, but someday........I can still dream. :)

Hay QH lovers! I'm so glad I found your team!
I'm Anne from San Francisco, CA.
I have a 9 yr old sorrel AQHA gelding "Junior".
Junior's been laid up for the past 20 months, but he's walking out sound now, so I'm slowly starting him back to work. He's gaining weight, and I'm using a friend's good ponyhorse "Cowboy" to start conditioning him. emoticon
I also help another friend and her son with her aged T-Bred gelding "Sylvester" and his Draft/Quarter gelding "Whiskey". Whiskey's really too much horse for either of them, so I'm riding him and teaching him some manners. emoticon
I love this life. I'm doing what I love and having fun doing it. I've never liked public barns much, but this one's an exception. I love the owner and it's cool to be able to buddy-up with friends for support.

Hi all! My name is Heather, and I half-lease a Quarter Horse mare named Kitten. It's a perfect solution for the owner and for me.

She's not very nice on the cross ties, but she's a dream for me to ride. I ride English. Kitten was originally trained for reining, but she wasn't fast enough, so they transitioned her to hunter and she does quite nicely this way.

I'm in northern New Jersey in the country. I love my horsey lifestyle!

Greetings ya all
I am sheri, from Tennessee. I have a palamino gilding, " big jim", and a bay mare " sissy"..
my 4 legged kids are spoiled rotten.lol

When I first joined sp, my famous last words was I wanted to be smaller then my horses..lol

I trail ride alot, and when I first joined SP, me and Jim had been on a ride..and on this HUGE mountain, we was getting ready to go up it, and when I kid you not! Jim looked at me, like ummmm can you walk and I will meet you at the top...LOL

When I lost weight, 70 pounds and bought a new saddle a Big horn..that only weighs 18 pounds ..
Jim actually had to learn how to ride me again, with a 100 pound loss between me and my saddle.
but Jim is happy now!...

hugs
sheri

Thank you SP and my wonderful friends for all the support,
And thank God, for all he the blessings he gives us.

Wow How exciting to fine this group on spark!! I have 3 QH, but only one close to me right now. My older 2 are retired 'at the farm' in NE Texas. I'm in the houston area with my 3 boys, 2 dogs, 1 hubby, and my 9 year old gilding "Danny".

I'm looking for ways to make my trips to the barn more aerobic... every now and then I get a good work-out there, but mostly just enjoy the good company from the other boarders and their horses.

I'm very excited to find you guys and look forward to getting to know ya~

I am Tracey. Live in Mississippi. I just became a spark member day before yesterday, and have enjoyed exploring the site for the last couple days. Still learning and trying to figure out how to get all the cool add-ons that some of you have on your pages and posts. Such as that weight/goal bar. Married for 18 years to a super great guy (most of the time) He and I both began our diet on Jan 5th. So far he has lost 4 pounds. I have lost none but I know it's coming. I have 4 horses. All APHA (paints) Sky is my barrel horse mare. we just started running at the end of last summer. I'm 38 and had not run barrels since college. Anyway...we did pretty good and I am looking forward to kickin it up a notch in the season coming up. Ace is my 13 year old gelding. I have had him since he hit the ground. We very successfully showed halter futurities from the time he was a weanling and on up till he was no longer eligible. Then we did the paint shows and open shows. He not only did well in halter but turned out to be a very willing western pleasure horse. Now I just ride him occassionally. He spend so many years working almost everyday of his life in a round pen with neck sweats on that he deserved to be a horse and that is what he has been for the last three years. Clucy a 10 year old broodmare. We bred and raised halter babies for years and she is our only remaining broodmare. Haven't bred her in probably 4 years. Dixie is a 5 year old paint mare that my husband wanted because she could be hunted off of. He has never hunted off of her or shot off of her in the 4 years that we have had her. Ha Ha but she is a sweet mare and anyone can ride her. Other than horses we have 2 black labs...Harley and Reagan and two cats...C.C. and Chester. When we got Chester as a kitten the cats name was Ginger. Ginger grew some chestnuts in the back so the name had to be changed. ha ha ha.

Hello to all,

My name is Charlie and I live in North Texas by the Big Red, 4 miles north of a little town called Bonham!

I was born in Stephenville, Texas 62 years ago but, I have lived all over Texas and a few other states. My daddy was in the oil field and so was my husband. So I have traveled most of my life except for the past fourteen years.

We now have a very small cattle operation and a few horses. People call it a Hobby Ranch now days. We raise a rare breed of cattle called Belted Galloway. I will add a link to our web site. If you want to know about the cattle you can check it out. www.texasbeltiecattleco.com/

Oh, and I'm the leader of "Dance to get Skinny & Healthy again with ZUMBA" and co-leader of "60+ Horsey People".

Hugs,
Charlie

I'm also new to Spark, and really just finding my way around. I have 1 QH gelding, Luke, and also sometimes ride a gaited horse. I've kept my head in the sand about doing something about my weight & consequently health problems, maybe waiting for it to all just magically go away?? I can so relate to so many posts that I've read....I absolutely feel my best while on the back of a horse. I love to trailride & enjoy the outdoors. How I have spent most of my adult life overweight, I'll never know. How I've let the years go by, not doing anything about it.....won't know that either. Most importantly, how I've let this extra weight prevent me from really enjoying what I love....who knows. All I know it, this time....I'm going to get fit, lose the weight & live again. I will get on my horse w/o a stump or tree, or anything that I can find. I will fit in my saddle again & have the balance to really ride. I will not hurt all over, and be short of breath after a walk in from the field. It's time....and I see so many others here that I can really relate to. Wow...kinda got off on a tangent huh? anyway..I'm from MD, living in PA & love quarter horses!

I am new to Spark. I am trying to get back into shape for my son, and myself. I am down to just one Paint mare. I can't believe that! I hope to start riding when the days are longer and the weather is a bit better. I have friends who want me to ride their horses for them so I need to get busy. I just trail ride and I miss being in the saddle. I look forward to visiting with y'all.

Hi my name is Dana, I love all horses especially quarter horses. I don't own any right at the moment but my BFF and my Uncle keep me in the saddle. I will have pictures of my equine friends on my page soon and a little about each! I have at least a 100 lbs to lose and would love to meet some friends with similar interest! I just started classes to improve my riding abilities and any advice on this topic is appreciated!

Hello, My name is Janice. I live in South MS. I have a wonderful husband who supports my habit of Horses. I have 4, 2 paints, 17 year Kate and 3 year old Sandy and 2 quarter horses, Gypsy Rose,2 1/2 and Ginger who will soon be 4. They all act like big over sized puppy dogs. A friend once told me I spoiled my horses, but at least I don't have to chase or hem them up in a corner or stall to catch them. I have 6 barn cats and a golden Lab who will be 1 year old in December. I need to lose 62 more pounds to meet my goal and spoil them some more.

Hello---I just joined SparkPeople this weekend. I have 2 QH mares. Tess is a 6 yo bay and Genie is a 3 yo black. They are both very good girls. I board them, but we bought 153 acres this past spring in a neighboring town and hope and pray to build our dream house and dream barn out there soon. Then my girls can live with me. The barn where I keep the girls is great. I love the barn owner, who also happens to be one of the horse 4-H leaders for my kids. I have always loved horses and it is a dream to have them. I hope to get into better shape so I feel confident to ride Tess. Between getting older, being a mom and being just plain chubby and out of shape I now am fearful to ride, which bums me out!!!!

I've been with Spark People for quite a while but just found this team. Wow--we love quarterhorses and currently own three plus a kids' horse that is an Appy. Holly is a grandaughter of Hollywood Dun It and is in training for working cow horse events, Lady is a grandaughter of Shining Spark and is a coming two year old. Maggie is a grandaughter of Highbrow Hickory and is also a coming two year old. We actually won her in the Idaho Quarterhorse Association raffle a couple of weeks ago. She is very sweet and gentle. I tell folks she has been hauled and mauled all summer and not much rattles her. Have started taking on some of the care for DH so I can work off some of what I have put back on. Am looking forward to getting to know everyone.

HI!

I ride when I can but that is not usually very often. By the time I take care of the babies and walk the pastures checking on the mares and yearlings I'm usually to exhausted to do much ridding. Also most of the time I would be ridding by myself which is just not a smart thing to do. But I love my horses and get total pleasure just working with them and being around them then when I do get to ride that is just that much better.

I know what you mean about the humidity, growing up in south Mississippi, showing in the summer time was miserable. It was always covered pens no air, usually not even a breeze. We would show in everything so you can only imagine how difficult it would be to change from tight blue jeans, to english breeches, and this was before everyone had air conditioners in their tack room. I would not trade our weather here in Kentucky for anything. I got out today and rode and it was chilly but bearable. I don't mind the cold, but like you said I hate the wind.

8 inches! Holy Cow!!! I'd love to be where you are... I love snow/winter, so long as the winds are calm I don't mind cold at all but around here the last few days its been an actual temp in the 40's with a very fast, very cold wind so it feels like its in the teens. The conditions could be the same with snow down though and I'd feel warmer, don't know why.

I can't function at all if it is anywhere above 70 with humidity... And living by the lake in both MI and in WI I'm always stuck with humidity! At least i convinced hubby not to move to Missouri!

Hello! Do you ride too? What disipline? Your horses are beautiful. I just sold a qrulla mare. She was built like a tank. My daughter used her for showmanship @ our local 4-H fair and won and recieved a Dale Chavaz halter. I would love to have kept her but my daughter is almost 6 ft tall and the mare was only 14.2 I'll post some pics of her on my page. As for today we have no school so I'm gonna pull out a arobics tape and then take a walk with the kids thru the pasture. I think I'll stretch good first cause we got 8 or more inches of snow last night. If you don't hear from me again I probably still laying there. Dying! LOL Well might as well get started. Have a great day.

This really sparks me up now that I can chat with someone who actually knows where I'm coming from. My goal is to lose some weight so I look better and be a better rider. Anyone else share these thoughts??

Hi all,
I have been on for a long time, but took about a 5 month break. It is too hard to keep up with the good behaviors and weight loss without checking in.

I am a school teacher with a love of rodeo. I have had horses all my life and just happened to marry a horse trainer. He does most of the "training", but we both season the horses all summer. We train mainly calf roping and barrel racing horses. What a life, I love it. I just need to finish with my last 40 lbs to be where I need to help my horse perform better. It was amazing how much better I rode and roped last summer having lost 30 lbs (10 of which I have gained back).

I guess I should go in and change my ticker back to 180. I just can't bare to do it though. I will just focus on getting to changing it again for the lower number.

Hi,
My name is Kathy, I live in the desert southwest. Currently I own a grade mutt morgan cross, been told he has quarter in him as well as morgan - I suspect TB also. He's my love, will do anything in the world I ask of him. I also own a breeding stock Paint (Yeah, whatever!) He's a line-backed dun with Poco and Joe Hancock lines, and also Foundation QH. He's the classic quarter horse with a huge backside and all the power to match. He's gorgeous, but has a bad habit of bucking so I sent him down south to a working cattle ranch to learn some manners. Also just had to put down a bay Morgan, retired ranch horse. He came up with a gutteral pouch infection, and you just don't cure that in a 30 year old horse.
I grew up around horses - quarter horses and ranching, and don't want to lose contact with horsey people any more than I already have. My favorites are the quarter horses, though. Hope you will let me join you!

Kathy

Hi! My name is Tish and I dont have much time to be on Spark anymore, but I remain active and watch what I eat! I've lost 40 lbs since January of this year, but got sidetracked by a lot of things a couple of months ago, so I haven't lost any more, but I haven't gained not one pound either, so that's good!
I work full time for a school district business office, but I am also an Equine Assisted Christian Counselor. I hope the Lord has plans for me to quit my job and go full time into that ministry some day soon! We have 3 Quarter Horses, 1 Thoroughbred, and 2 ponies, with another donated Quarter Horse to come next week. 1 Quarter and the Thoro are my horses that I use in the our organization.

I am not strictly a quarter horse person but am primarily working with my AQHA mare right now... I have a very eclectic group from a 16.2 hh 3 year old warmblood to my son's 12.2 hh pinto pony. I do have an AQHA gelding and mare as well as a quarter pony gelding.

When i first started on this site I was just worrying about shedding a few pounds but I have realized that I have a lot more issues than just the weight that I need to deal with... they just kind of snuck up on me and started coming out as I was writing posts, blogs and bios.

When I was still at "home" in MI i was a full time trainer and instructor managing a 65 to 80 horse herd for 12 years... since I moved 2 years ago I have room only for 4 at my own farm have not been able to get much business for lessons, training, clinics or workshops! As fall has came on I have realized that one more riding season has passed without me accomplishing any of my career (horsey) goals... I have recognized now that I'm depressed. I have an appointment with a therapist next week and we are going to check into things a bit more and see how to work through it but all I really want to do right now is sit in a corner and pout about WHY!

Please take a minute and introduce yourself, you can either do it in this thread or create your own, I'm not picky!

I'm Patricia, from NE Texas, I currently have 7 Quarter Horses. They are: Ms. San Spark, Duchess Melody, Maggie (still waiting on her papers), Sparkin' Controversey (aka Magic), Diamond Dual Doc (for sale), Spark Mea Melody (for sale) and [name pending] Melody of Diamonds!

That's the heard! Looking forward to getting to know all of you and your horses!
