Thanks memare and Suzanne!! It has been so nice to just come home after work these last couple of days!! I thought about framing my diploma too and hanging it at work!
My skin is healing remarkably well, and soooo fast!! Wow!!! Still a bit sore and tender tho.....;)

My diploma is framed and hanging in my office, the same office where I received my treatments!! It makes it easier to talk to patients, they understand that I've been through it as well, that I truly do know what they're experiencing!!

I'm sure you'll do just as well with the next phase; same as you've faced and met head-on the previous ones.
Your upbeat attitude and your empathy for others that are traveling the same road crossing your path shows what a special individual you are! (Especially with everything you have on your plate at this time)

Funny you mentioned the ‘diploma’; my team gave me one too! It was pink! And they all signed it. I have to say kudos to all those technicians! Although I may need to speak to them about forgetting the send-off song (and the gifts) at my follow up appointment in a couple weeks! LOL emoticon

How true about dealing with medical situations when you have things explained to you. I was fortunate to have such great doctors as I went through my breast cancer treatment. This summer when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease the first dr told me nothing. Now I have a very good dr who explains everything. I am a retired RN so understanding is very important to me. Good luck to you.

I know how uncomfortable that "fried" skin can be, but with mastectomy patients, we're not doing our job unless the skin gets the full dose, even more important than with intact breast patients. I found that if I knew there was a legitimate reason to my discomfort, it made it a little easier in my mind, that there was a REAL reason for why I was experiencing it.....don't know how much sense that makes, but it might help!!

Back when I was a therapist (we're talking about 18 years ago) we used to use Carfusion Dye. It was marketed as the longest lasting skin marking dye available. It dissolves skin oils, penetrates pores and resists mild washing. So you can only imagine how hard it was to come off our hands (and clothes!!) Physically impossible!

Needless to say, 2 weeks before my wedding I refused to mark up any more patients, as I definitely didn't want carfusion stains in my wedding pictures!!!

Suzanne,
Did your 37 include the boosters?
I had 28 basic treatments and am working on the 7 boosters.

Cheryn, I am so thankful to be done with the basics; my fried strip on my sternum is gonna peel I can tell. emoticon
Thankfully, the boosters are targeting the lumpectomy site so I won't be getting fried on the strip anymore and I only have 5 to go. emoticon

I hear ya about slathering I've felt like a greased pig the past couple weeks! Now I have a 'bulls eye' marked on me for the booster treatments (and they tell me not to rub off the markings... sure! Easy for them to say... the markings are sliding off! emoticon

They just told me to use cortisone cream for the itching. I have Eucerin here at home and will try that. I still use my Vit E or Cocoa butter cream. Just rubbing anything on it works for a few moments, then my shirt will irritate it all over again!!
Congrats on finishing up last Wednesday!! :)

Welcome to the team! emoticon

I was diagnosed in January with Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma and had a mastectomy with reconstruction in February. I had replacement surgery in May. I developed seromas both times and had to undergo surgery to prevent infection, but the expander and implant were saved in each case. My implant is too small and does not match my other side, but I really don't want to have another surgery at this point. I will see the plastic surgeon in another month to decide.

I had oncotyping done on my tumor, and my oncologist advised no radiation or chemo. I am taking Femara for 5 years, since my tumor was estrogen and progesterone positive.

Wishing you all the best in your treatment and recovery.

Betty

Welcome to the team! I am not a breast cancer patient/survivor but have just begun a new job working for an agency that helps survivors find services and provides services for them. I'm hoping to learn to serve our clients better by spending time with all of you.

I also worked for a radiation oncologist...so good luck with your radiation and treatment plan.

Glad to have you be a part of the team but sorry for your qualifications. I'm an R.N. and a bilateral but wasn't successful with my reconstruction and I'm okay with that. In fact the non-cancerous, lumpy bumpy side was successful but I wanted to be same so had it removed (just the expander). I'm an 8 year survivor with radiation and chem and blessed to still be healthy w/no reoccurance. It is different on this side of the bed or table in your case. Eye opening and makes us better at our jobs! Brenda

I am new here, invited by my pal Memare! *Hi Mare!* :) I was diagnosed in April 2010 with DCIS and had a double mastectomy in May with immediate reconstruction. I had some issues with one of the tissue expanders and it was removed in July. So in the meantime, I will get my 6 weeks of radiation done and then we will continue with reconstruction.
Radiation begins on Monday, and I look forward to getting another step of progress behind me! I am a Mammo Tech in my profession, so breast cancer is around me daily, and now I am a "poster child" for my department!! Oh, the irony of it all!! It is nice to find this forum, and I hope to meet many friends here!!
