Barb, look at my 2 entries (the First and the last) under "First Attempt" where I got my first entry in the wrong place. It really was my first attempt to make an enty anywhere, so you know how that goes. It looks like we have a lot of things sort of similar in our histories. Mine has just been going on longer. lol I know... I finish the last dose of the decadron next tuesday, and about a week after that the appetite SHOULD start to taper off... I hope. I did a bit of figuring today after I wrote that message.... I took in nearly 3500 calories today! gah no wonder I feel bloated! I'm going to havta be much stricter with myself... stuff myself stupid on veggies BEFORE I'm allowed to eat other things instead of after =)

btw.... yes, I did cut myself off after 1/4 of the cake.... but that cake's supposed to make 10-12 servings.... and I have 1 1/2 cakes left in the freezer! not to mention the 2 biiiiiiiiiiiiig trays of brownies...

well, I guess the good thing is.... The store that sells that stuff has gone out of business here, so at least I can't just buy more after I've eaten it! LOL

2 notes: tell me more about your farm! what kinda animals ya got? I'd love a little hobby farm, but I doubt we'll ever afford that! Before I found out the tumour was growing again I was driving (horses) at the stable...like to get back to it when I have some energy!

also: about remembering what foods you've eaten...a simple sheet of paper in the kitchen can help... just write that down and at bedtime (or whenever) you can input it.

Just an idea from one head-case to another =) Memory is NOT one of my strong points either!

I have a saying that started when I first came back to writing on the computer--and my hands were always messing up. CARP. Oh CARP!!! (you can imagine what I was trying to say).

My doc had me on a med two years ago, which for MOST people reduced their appetite. For a small % (me included) it not only increased the want for food, but locked those pounds like cement. I can't recall now which it was...

Oh CARP.

But hey... you are doing the BEST you can and right now may be time to get that swelling DOWN and not worry about too much with the weight... You are following a GOOD plan (well, cept the cake, sweetie) but you didn't have the entire thing! Or even half!!!

Baby steps...

I am trying to post my stuff, each day.... but I have been putting in long hours at the farm, and forget a lot. I SO wish my computer was in the kitchen... So, here I am off to try to recall what I had today...

Good luck!
Barb G

All the best,
Barb G

it's not actually that much.... it's that little! little energy that is!

One major annoyance I have right now, is that the doctor's put me on Dexamethasone aka Decadron, a corticosteroid to help reduce the swelling in my brain due to tumour growth and radiation. one of the major side effects is an uncontrollable urge to eat! I am just ALWAYS hungry! Even when I'm too full to cram another mouthful in, I'm starving!

so much for any weight loss! I'm 1/2 debating about posting what I've eaten today just to try and keep myself accountable....but I'm also thinking that could just make me feel worse about my inability to control it! Can we say catch 22?

I'm trying to make at least 1/4 of my calories come from veggies and fruits, and at least another 1/4 from whole grains and 1/4 from lean proteins, but it's very hard. I tried denying myself some sweets and it actually made it worse...

yes, you got it... I ate 1/4 of the cake, not the whole thing! Oh dear! lol

I am so sorry you have been going through so much. I cannot imagine.

Hope you are feeling some better and look forward to getting to know you.

I am pretty good about online stuff... it is my main source of support.

Take care!

All the best,

Hi There Barb! (and anyone else who's joined and been shy about posting =)

Welcome to the Team!

I'm sorry I wasn't here when you arrived, but I've had a rough couple of months. Back in April my brain tumour was found to be growing - and spawning a 2nd little tumour, so I just finished a 6 week treatment of radiation therapy, and had very limited access to the internet during the time I had to be away.

The good news is that now I have SO little energy post-treatments, that I have no excuse NOT to be online. lol.

Hope to see y'all around!

Thanks Carol,
I do have a question... I don't always have a positive attitude... and the last couple of days I have had a nasty bug. Does it take you longer to recoup now? I feel like a drowned rat. The sunshine is calling and I just want to go back to sleep.

Thanks,
Barb

All the best,
Barb G

Hi. My name is Barb, and I am a newbie to SP and this group. I am 49 and am a TBI survivor (of nearly 4 years).

I deal with fatique, frustration, aphasia, headaches and lack of stamina. Up side is, I am functioning fairly well if I pace myself. I work very hard at keeping 'it' together.

My first accident was when I was 'head-butted' by my daughter's horse (he thought he was a lap dog emoticon

Since then, I have sustained a second TBI (nearly at the same location) and broken an arm and various falls (balance issues). I am getting better at falling now (grinning).

I am here to gain stamina by losing weight and gaining strength.

My family consists of four kids (30,28,23 and 20) and one grandson by choice (he is my daughter's step son and my little buddy). I am married, and run and own a small llama farm in SW WA STATE.

Hope this finds you well.
Thanks!

All the best,
Barb G
