HI AND WELCOME! Sorry for the delay, but I have been out camping.

I had the Botox shots for a time... and yes it did help, but it was beyond our financial scope when insurance changed... The BEST thing I have been able to do for myself was to relocate, but that is such a drastic option... People don't realize the impact that the barometric pressure changes give us. It is HORRID. It has been such a blessing for me, and I have regained much of my life (not all, and some of the neuro pathways are just gone).

I hope you can find something to help you. Welcome to our team!!!

All the best,
Barb G

The dietary monitoring could get kind of complicated so good luck on your project. There are a number of people with this group who have major headache problems but I'm not one of them.

I have Idiopathic Basal Ganglia Calcifications (sometimes called Fahrs Disease/Syndrome). It is a genetic disorder where calcium is stripped from my bones and diet and delivered to my organs but, primarily (as the name implies) to the Basal Ganglia region of my brain. In my case, it's not limited to the Basal Ganglia. It is scattered throughout my brain. It's also on my lungs and on my heart. It is always fatal. There is no treatment and no cure. There are no clinical trials. All they can do is try to keep me comfortable as things progress but they can't tell me how that will be as the calcium deposits are completely random. It makes me kind of an interesting patient.

Like a lot of people here, I have problems with severe headaches. I have tried over a dozen different migraine medications and treatments over the last 13 months. The most drastic was a lumbar puncture to drain spinal fluid off to lower the pressure of the fluid going into my skull. It worked for about two weeks. I generally have migraine headaches every day. About a month ago, I had my first Botox treatment for headache relief. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is 30 injections of Botox to your head and neck. The Botox paralyzes the nerve endings so that you don't feel the headache pain ... supposedly ... after about 10 days to 2 weeks. My experience has been that I still feel the daily headaches but not nearly as severely (over the counter medications actually give me relief) but the Barometric Pressure-related headaches are still every bit as bad and the nausea that goes with them remains steadfast.

Anyhow, I am dieting and exercising. I have kind of a lofty goal of participating in the Expedition Everest Challenge next May at Disney World. I am one of those people that goes BIG or goes home. Why not dream BIG?

I am doing a doctor-supervised fasting diet and walking for exercise so far ... and drinking LOTS of water! I have to completely avoid soda and calcium things (dairy largely) are closely monitored.
