The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:14

A monk was once asked: What do you do there in the monastery? He replied: We fall and get up, fall and get up, fall and get up again. - Tito Colliander

Wow! Sounds like your life is pretty challenging. Welcome to the team. As far as I can tell, it has not been a real active team, at least since I've been around. I think there's a lot of variation in the kinds of problems people are facing. I hope we can offer some support.

I'm a newbie to the group and have been on SP for 38 days. I have a VP Shunt for occult communicating (with the shunt). Hydrocephalus resulted from viral meningitis with a 107 degree fever and coma for 4 days. I woke up "normal" so we thought. Every couple of years however I seem to receive a new "gift." Seems the meningitis also gave me multiple autoimmune conditions: Raynauds (Smurf) syndrome; drop foot, peripheral neuropathies in my hands and feet, denerative disk disease, tissue paper skin...I bruise more easily than a ripe banana, ataxic gait (neuropathies are the culprit here) and deafness at age 61 ... I have some newer ones but you get the idea. I've had 4 brain surgeries for shunt revision and one staph infection that resulted in having the shunt removed and placed outside my body in isolation. I am considered a TBI survivor because of the side effects of multiple surgeries in the same area of the head/brain.

So here I am with my gifts - but I am one of the lucky ones. I do not have aphasia. I have an intact long term memory. I do not experience seizures, well, overall I can do most of what I used to do - just differently.

I am one of the formerly able-bodied and have been a case study on management of multiple autoimmune disorders affecting different lymphatic systems.

Having fun yet. I'm looking forward to some great discussions.

Welcome! I am lucky not to have seizures, but have fallout from a head injury that happened many years ago. I'm sure we have some of the same issues even though our situations are different. Weight gain from medication is part of my problem, too (although lack of will power also figures in emoticon ). I hope you'll find Spark helpful!

Hello. I am 38 year old mother of two. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 10. I have recently gone through a difficult struggle with seizures. I was placed on new medication which caused a 30 lb weight gain. I am hoping to find support and encouragement from those who understand what it is like to struggle with a chronic neurological condition.
