My name is Heather and I live in Texas. I enjoy running and my goal by the end of this year is to run a half marathon. I took a little bit of time off this year and did P90X but never finished it. I missed running. So now it is time to start training for the half marathon. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thanks!

I enjoy running but I never considered going this far before! My sister-in-law recently asked me to run a 1/2 marathon with her. At first I was shocked. I ran in the Bolder Boulder about 2 years ago and remember thinking I never wanted to run further than that but I weighed more and was not in great shape. I'm actually excited to train for a 1/2 marathon! It will be the Lincoln 1/2 marathon on May 1st!

I'm new here and new to running. I always hated it. Even when I was in pretty good shape as a high school athlete, I hated the running part. But I started running back in Sept of 2010 as a way to get a quick workout in. and since I have a treadmill I figured that running was something I can do all the time, any day, so I have no excuse to miss a workout.

I ran my first 5k in October and was not thrilled with my performance, and gave up running for a couple of weeks, and guess what? I missed it! So, now I am working towards a 10k in March and a 10mile in May and probably a half marathon in Nov.

I am scared so I need all the support I can get. and hey, if I lose some weight along the way, that would be great! I've got about 40lbs to lose, and it would make running easier - having less weight to move. but dieting and working out to lose weight have never worked for me, so now Im focusing on my running and hoping the other part will just fall in place.

Hi all! Great group here it seems! I used to hate running...back in May, I could not even run a 1/4 mile! But went to fitness bootcamp and worked my way up to doing a sprint triathlon in August and then a 10K in September! I am over 200 lbs and not very fast, but last Saturday I ran almost 8.65 miles, and this upcoming New Year's Eve, I am planning on a 10 mile run (if the snow doesn't get in my way...we are in a blizzard at the moment...LOL). Next year I am hoping to do the New Bedford Half Marathon in March. I know that I will be able to make the distance, as by mile 4 my legs go on auto-pilot, I just need to work on speed and make these legs of mine go a bit faster. I think the cold temps combined with my asthma takes away some of my wind, but I run through it anyway, however slow I may be. Running is therapeutic in so many ways :) Look forward to getting to know you all!

I'm not committed yet. I went from a complete non-runner (although I'd done day-long hikes since childhood) to my first 5K this past year and it was surprisingly easy. My plan was to double every year - 10K in 2011; half marathon in 2012; marathon in 2013. But there is a fun-sounding half marathon here in May. If I'm only up to 5K now, and having a harder time getting out to run in the cold weather, can I be ready for a half in five months? Advice welcomed!

Hi! Thanks for the warm welcomes on my Sparkpage to this team. For some reason I think running a HM seems like a good idea this year. This from someone who runs 2-3 miles regularly. However, I am in "training mode" and whatever happens, this is a good push for me. My hope is that it keeps me focused for the next three months and hopefully I'll be on the road for my first HM in March. ANY advice will be appreciated along the way!

Hi everyone! I am also new to this team. I ran 3 half marathons in 2010 after losing 55 pounds from this time last year. I plan to do at least 6 more in 2011, if I stay healthy, with the first one in March or April. I would be happy to share information as I have learned lots of things from these types of forums and can share my experiences as well. I have run in about 15 half marathons in my life. 2010 was my first running since 2002.

Hi! I want to run my first half marathon in 2011. I don't have any friends that are runners so I'm looking for a buddy to keep me on track and inspired. I'm excited that I found this team.

Hi my name is Larisa and I want to run a half marathon in 2011. I have planned this year to run 5k and I did four of them. Now my goal is to finish half marathon. I enjoy running and I love the feeling when I do run, I rest psychologically. I enjoy and I think that I will be able to do it.

Hi from WI, just getting back into working out and running after a pregnancy in 2009 that put me on and off bedrest and then a lazy year in 2010. I last ran a HM in Sept 2008, so I'm looking forward to losing weight and running again. Starting the training in January, right now just working on getting my cardio up so I can last a couple miles! I'm signed up to run the Cellcom GB HM in mid-May.

Hey, I am new here. I completed multiple 5ks and 2 half marathons last year before I found out I have degenerative and bulging disc. I haven't been able to train since my last 1/2 in October. I am ready to try to get back out there. I loved the feeling I get after a long walk/run. I feel a great since of accomplishment and like I can do anything that I set my mind to. I want to feel that feeling again. I am overweight, so I am also working on my eating plan. I want 2011 to be the year for me. My ultimate goal is to be able to run more. Right now, with my back the way it is, I am skeptical but I don't want to give up. So, thats a little of my story, hope to meet yall soon.

Hi

I am Xanthe, I used to be a runner (as a child/teenager) and got back into it a few years ago, then gained a heap of weight and lost all my fitness by sitting on my lazy butt. I have completed a beginner to 5km programme and would like to aim to do a HM in mid 2011, I am taking it slowly and have a 26 week training programme to follow (from Runkeeper). I would like to run a full marathon at least once but that is a distant dream for 2012.

Howdy, y'all! My name is Kelly Jo, and I'm looking forward to running my first HM in 2011. While no doubt the event itself will be quite an experience, I have to admit that I'm more excited about the training. Ha! Well, best wishes to my fellows!

Hi all,
I just joined this team because I have registered for a half marathon in May of 2011. I hope to be significantly lighter/healthier/faster by then, but I will still be walking that bad boy, not running! I hope to pick up some good information here. :)

Hi I'm Becky, I finished the Couch to 5K program in May and have completed 3 5K's. I have decided to do the Yuenling Shamrock 1/2 Marathon in VA Beach in March 2011. I haven't been running consistently in the last few months, just here and there so I'm excited to get back on a training regimen. Hope to meet some friends and get and give as much support as I did with C25K, happy running, and to all the fluffy runners like me we can do it!

Hi Everyone! My name is Madeleine, and I've been running for not even a year now. I started out running just a minute at a time until I could run one mile (that's when I decided I could be called "a runner"), and now I've got a 32:12 5k under my belt! I'm currently able to run 4 miles at a time, and I could probably go for longer with a run-walk method.

I got pretty hooked on running over the summer (along with biking and hiking), and one of my best friends started getting into it around the same time as me. We oh-so-casually tossed around the idea of running the Philadelphia 1/2 together one year from now, and I'm thinking, "Why not go for it??" So here I am -- hoping that I've got what it takes to more than triple my running distance and maintain my motivation, dedication, and health for the next 12 months!

Hello to everyone. I have been running a couple years now. I am still slow runner, but I have seen improvements this last year, so there is still hope!
I have a hard time training in the winter as I really don't enjoy running in the cold. I always feel like I am starting over every spring. Treadmill running is ok for about 3 miles, then I have had enough. If I can keep some sort of training going, I would like to run the Bayshore 1/2 marathon in Traverse City, Mi this spring, if not tha soon, there is a half marathon next fall on Mackinaw Island, Michigan.

Hi!! I'm Rebecca and I just ran my first half marathon on the 7th of November (Women's Half Marathon Series - Arizona). I was actually invited to this team by AURORAEMERGES because she saw my status saying I was bummed that no one had read my blog about my very first half. So here I am! I'm registered for my next half in February and I'm going to do it with my husband and this time I'm aiming for a 2:30 or below. My ultimate goal is the United States Air Force Marathon in September.

I just got involved with Spark People but I've been interested in running and marathon training for the last two years. I ran the Eugene, OR 1/2 in May 2009, and the Pacific Crest in 2010. I'm hoping to complete a half marathon every year! Any excuse to travel and be healthy at the same time! I'm excited to hear about others experiences and helpful training tips!

I just committed to my friend to run a half-marathon with her in mid-May 2011. So now I have exactely six months to train and be the fittest and strongest I can be!

I am hoping to find useful information as well as encouragement in this team! For now, I am running 30 minutes at a slow pace about three times a week. When and how do I take it up from here?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi everyone! My name is Melanie and I ran my first 1/2 marathon on June 20, 2010 on Father's Day with my sister. This was 11 months after giving birth to my third son. This was a big challenge for me. I needed a goal to strive for to loose the baby weight and I knew that it would be the last time I would have a year off work for maternity leave. The time it took us to finish was longer than I had wanted but at least we finished and we couldn't have been prouder. We are hoping to run at least two this following year and I'm hoping that talking to other runners will give me the motivation to improve my time and trim off the last 10 lbs I still have!! Thanks for reading!!

If I can do this ANYONE can!!

Hello everyone! My name is Caren, I just ran my first 1/2 marathon at Disney on Oct 2nd! What an amazing experience. When I crossed the finish line I swore I was crazy and would never do it again, but today I am already looking for friends to join me at the New Orleans 1/2 marathon on Feb 13th. I have rheumatoid arthritis and was in pain when I finished the first one, which was why I swore to never do it again, but this time I am going to manage my training a bit different. I had used runnersworld.com training program which didn't get me past ten miles as the longest run (I went 12 on my own but only a couple times) so I am hoping to do better.

Hi I'm Amy. I'm new to this sort of thing. I'm a 12 yr Hodgkin's Lympoma survior and am still fighting the effects of the chemo. I'm been becoming more active. I kept getting the Leukemia and Lymphoma society's Team In Training brochures in the mail. So this year I deided ya know I'm going to do this for myself and others who are fighting blood cancers. So I'm starting off with walking a half marathon on March 19, 2001.

I'm Amy. I started running with c25k less than 6 months ago & I still feel like a beginner. I plan to run a HM in the Spring using Jeff Galloway's training.
I had my first race, a 10k, 2 weeks ago & my second race, a 5k is this Saturday. I'm hoping my nerves won't get the best of me with this race like they did with the first one.

Good morning, everyone! I'm new - just signed up for my first half marathon!! I've been a member of SP for 4 years but have never ran more than a marathon relay and plenty of 5k's. My fiance just ran a half earlier this month and convinced me to sign up with him for the Indy mini in May 2011 :) Does anyone have any tried/trusted training website plans or books I should get?

Thanks!
Kate

Hi all! My name is Lindsay. I used to be a CC and track runner "back in the day". Life happened and I gained more than 160 pounds through the years. I'm extremely proud to say that I've lost those darned 160 pounds throughout the past 2 1/2 years. I'm even happier to report that I'm back to running. My hubby and I started walking last fall. I was also recovering from baby #2 in July '09. Once we started walking a bunch, we decided to try running. It just took off from there. First 5K in Feb 2010. I just signed up for my first half this weekend (October 23rd). My hubby won't be joining me since he has made it perfectly clear he will not run more than a 5K at any given moment. That's OK :) We run together during the week on our lunch hour so we get that exercise quality of time.

I could go on and on but that would be boring to you all!

Take care and nice to meet you!

Lindsay

Hi everyone! In a moment of post-5k euphoria yesterday I decided to sign up for a 1/2 marathon in March. I am somewhat spontaneous by nature (did my first triathlon much the same way) and sincerely hope that 5 months is enough time to train up. Currently run (slowly) about 3-4 miles, so 13.1 seems like a long way away. Glad to join the team!

Hello! I have run on and off through the years but lately, here at age 48, I have picked it up more than ever! A friend and I enjoy a challenging 9 mile trek through the hills here in our town once, and often twice, a week. Overall I do 15-30 miles a week. Did my first 5K on Saturday and learned some lessons there. I have twenty days and one more 5K before my first half and am VERY excited about it. The course will be in the beautiful rolling mountains just near my house where I have always wanted to do a bike ride but never got to it. Now I will be doing a slower pace than on a bike but I plan to love every minute of it! And then you all will be reading, "1/2 marathon" below my SP name. Yeah! May you all be blessed on your journey to good health and fast racing!
