Hi everyone,

I'm Rob - I've been meditating for... well, I guess it depends on how you measure it. I think the first time I meditated was when I was in junior high, making it... *cough* *cough* a few years ago.

However, I haven't been consistent in my practice but in the past 5 years, I've tried to be more focused on having a regular meditation time. With mixed success :-)

Nonetheless, I love meditation and what it brings to my everyday life. Glad to have found this group.

Hi,
My name is Mary. I am married to a great guy and I am a two time breast cancer survivor and I am cancer free, Thank God. I have three daughters and they are all married. I am Italian/American and as you know there is so much good Italian food places and recipe's. I need to be accountable and present, not eating mindlessly as I do sometimes. My name is audrey, im new to meditation and wanted to connect with other people who meditate. I think meditation is a good habit to have in life in general and also when you are trying to change habits to healthier ones. I am vegan and i'm getting back in shape with around 40 pounds to lose.

Hi - don't think I've introduced myself yet

Have now had 6 days out of 9 snack free - am beginning to realise how helpful typing/writing about it is - it is helping me pin point things and see new things. Progress is being made. I think I am going to be spending more time getting alone and quiet and with my journal so I can write everything down that I am realising about my emotions and habits and eating and so I can decide on plans of action. Still working with James Clear's "Atomic Habits" book - very helpful. The reflection phase is a very important part of journaling. And meditating on good things - looking at where I want to be and thinking on that.

Hi, I'm annie, 65, in a wheelchair with many health and weight issues. I'm a survivor of suicide, PTSD, child sexual abuse, depression and anxiety and have been in therapy most of my life. I've been helped so much by Sparkpeople, the education and support, and meditation is one way I deal with Chronic Pain. I've stopped being regular about it, so I think it's time to be more accountable and that is my hope in joining here. The great thing this week is my therapist thinks I'm able to go to once a month visits and I think it's because of all I've learned here. So welcome to all the other newbies out there. We've got this!

Hi, I have a cute Golden Retriever puppy and he’s 6 months named Jace. Enjoying walking with him and he gives me lots of unconditional love. He’s my emotional support animal too! I had a tough year last year, didn’t meet my weight loss goals. I’m here to get support and meet friends in my journey to lose 60 lbs. I survived a shooting in Nov last year and have PTSD. Been doing EMDR in counseling and focusing on relaxation, stress management and self care. Hoping to overcome the set back , be positive and continue on with strengthening myself. Each day is a gift from God, hoping to use these 24 hours a Day well.

I use the insight meditation timer app on my phone. I did the 4.99 upgrade to get more bells but I like how it works. I especially like their slogan "Peace in our timer". Looking forward to sharing the journey with you and this group. Peace

Hello, Iv done meditation since I took a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course over eight weeks in 2006. I have committed to daily meditation practice. Staying in the present moment and support of breathing through stresses are key components of using meditation to help with my weight loss. I find if I can do 10 slow deep breaths that whatever craving I'v got going on can be diminished or just eliminated. I wanted to find a group to keep me accountable for a daily meditation practice and this group seems to be it. I'v added both the daily meditation and daily mindful movement goals to my goals. Peace

emoticon Adele - sounds like you have a wonderful practice started already. I use meditation to center myself and find that sets the tone for the day. No need to stress or use unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Linda - will definitely look into the Mindful Eating book. Not only does mindful eating help limit my consumption, but enhances my enjoyment.

Adele, I'm not sure I'm eligible to welcome you to our team as I'm a newbie too. But, Welcome.

I want to focus more on mindful eating this year too. I'm wondering if you, or anyone, has read the book Mindful Eating by Jan Chozen Bays, MD? She is a MD but also a meditation teacher. I highly recommend it.

Being new to the forums, I posted my intro as a separate topic and not in this thread, sorry! I couldn't find a way to delete my post. I'll get the hang of these message boards sooner or later!

After a long absence from SP and having veered off course, I'm here to re-commit to my weight loss goal.

I've been studying and practicing Zen for several years and am finding it immensely helpful to stay present and focus on the moment. I still have to make the shift to applying Zen practice to my weight loss and leaving food behind as a source of immediate comfort. So this is my goal for 2019 and the future: to use mindfulness and Zen to do what is best for my health and take loving care of my body.

I'm 57, single, and share my life with 2 gorgeous shepherds and a sweet cat.

I'm very interested in this group and look forward to learning how all of you use the practice to help your weight loss.

Hi to everyone..... I joined SP a couple of weeks ago but have been too busy to do much on the web site. Not the best time of year to start something new...

First, thanks to the team leaders for the warm welcome.

I'm 75, will be 76 next week. I try to practice mindfulness but it's hard. I do yoga and meditate every morning. I joined up with Insight Timer 2 -1/2 years ago, it's a great place to meditate, there are 1000s of guided meditations and also a timer. They can keep track of what you do and award stars at certain steps on your journey. They also have a timer if you don't do guided meditations. And the best thing of all is it's free.

Looking forward to finding like minded souls to communicate with.

Hello fellow meditators!
I have only been practicing meditation for about a month. Previously, I had done the odd random guided practice, and I often set aside time for a solo two-minute meditation, but could never quite get the hang of it.
Then just over a month ago, I went to an informal one hour session and was introduced to the Insight Timer app. It has hundreds of guided meditations, as well as a free 7-day "learn to meditate" course.
I did the course, and have been fairly regular in my daily practice since. I felt that joining a Spark team might add to my understanding of the process.

On a personal note, I am a retired elementary school librarian, and retired marriage commissioner. I live with my DH, and our Scottie dog, Fergus, in a small rural community in Alberta, Canada. I have two daughters, and two grandchildren.

I really appreciate the warm welcome I have received from this team's members!

Hi, Thank you for the welcome.
My name is Nickie. I am not new to the concept of mindfulness but I am new to actually practicing and developing my practice. Anxiety, being not living in the moment, worrying about the future, obsessing about the past, and wanting a general sense of well being are all reasons why I decided I need to practice mindfulness and meditation.
I am doing a lot of reading on the topic and trying to meditate 5 minutes a day. 5 minutes doesn't seem like much but, it seems like an enternity when I am doing it.
I realize I need to practice at it like with everything else that I want to be good at.

I recently achieved my black belt in Taekwon-do. It was not an easy task. It took many years, hours, and classes of practice and studying. I am still attending class of course and want to go for my second Dan eventually, but I have backed off a bit to focus on my diet, weight lifting, and developing a better sense of well being, less looking back and ahead and more on being in the present.
I am glad to be a part of group and I look forward to reading your posts.

Hello I'm new to this group. I have been doing the diet thing trying to loose weight all my life, this is my 3rd or 4th time back at spark people. I'm determined to do things differently. I am going to be starting a medically supervised diet Monday. I'm working on incorporating some mindfulness and meditation in my life to help bring some balance and trying to make some lifestyle changes not just "diet."

Hi everyone. I am new; I just joined SP and the group. I joined the site to try to be more mindful of my eating, particularly because I have to eat gluten-free for medical reasons (which is also new to me). I meditate because I tend to be anxious and it helps a lot. I also find myself in front of a computer a lot of the day at work, so I wanted to try to get up and move more. I'm happy to see such a awesome group and I hope everyone will have a great weekend!

Hello all

I have just rejoined SparkPeople after a long absence.

It is a great focus and I hope to be an active member. I was going to shy away from the teams - but where is the fun in that?

I love the description for this team and the team goals - especially around yoga, mindfulness and chakra clearing. I don't know if any of you have heard of Abundance Through Reiki by Paula Horan. I have had great results with it in the past and am going to resume it on Monday.

I hope to get to know some of you properly over the next few months.

Hi everyone. My name is Renee.

I have anxiety and OCD so I found that meditation helps calm the crazy. lol ;) My oldest daughter and I try to meditate daily. She has found that it helps calm her for tests. I homeschool so the noise level is high majority of the time. My two younger girls have come to appreciate meditating and we are introducing it as part of the daily routine before school begins. I have found many guided meditations good for cultivating imagination and helping my kids relax on Youtube by Jason Stephenson and New Horizon. If you have children.. check them out!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the team but not SP. I've been letting stress get the better of me and am hoping that by joining this team I can make meditation a daily ritual or habit.
