Lin - so sorry that you have also been through so much. I also have heart issues - coronary artery disease, ulcers, depression and anxiety. It has really been good to stop working with the health issues. I really agree with you that nobody wants to talk about our IBS condition. People are embarrassed by it.

Shirl - welcome and to you and Linda - you're right - people don't understand. I thought I knew all about diabetes - until I was diagnosed and had to learn - the same with other things. We never know something until we experience/live it. Shirl don't apologize for getting this off your chest - I did the same today, lol. I started to answer something in the diet/nutrition forum and it ended up far too long for such so I made it into a blog on how to try new foods when you have had bad experiences in the past. I described what it is like to have Crohn's Disease as well as other chronic conditions with special dietary needs - congestive heart failure and dilated cardiomyopathy, and Type II diabetes. I'm afraid I went on and on but boy did I feel better after getting it out and in print. Like you, Linda, I found a big improvement in my Crohn's after I had to quit work when I developed the heart troubles. I don't fully understand IBS but I do believe all forms of IBD have many many similarities. I have Crohn's in my duodenum which often causes constipation, bloating and pain and I have had a resection at the ileum and that often causes the runs with strong bile salts making it very uncomfortable and leaving a real burn. I can go along with both cancelling each other out and things are fine and then there are days when I have one or the other and for the last year or so I've had extreme pain when going and it can take me up to 1/2 an hour or more to go. Too much information, lol. I've done some fund raising for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada in various ways and it's like pulling teeth - nobody wants to discuss or support anything to do with the bowels - too embarrassing they say - poopy! It should be no more embarrassing than heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or whatever. Better get off my soap box. Again Shirl, welcome. I think you'll find a lot of support and understanding here.

Welcome. I am so sorry that you are having so many problems with the IBS. I do as well. However, I no longer am employed so most of my stress is gone. Stress was the worst problem for my IBS-D. It can still happen if I eat something that triggers an attack. I have been taking Schiff Digestive Advantage and it helps me with bloating, gas, etc.

You are correct. Unless you have IBS, you just don't understand. We get joked about by people who just don't know how terrible this disease can be.

Hello everyone....

So glad I have stumbled on this forum....people that don't suffer with IBS just don't understand..they don't understand how aweful it feels to be constipated for days, bloated so badly that your pants that are 2 sizes to big don't even fit...your stomach hurts and you feel sooo dirty...

I have suffered from IBS my entire life...I am now 40 years old...I have tried everything and anything ot try and control this....nothing works...not 10 glasses of water a day, no 10-15 servings of veggies per day....no excerises...nothing not even Align works for me...it actually got me more constipated...I am probably the only one that happened too.... emoticon

Well, it feels great not to suffer alone...my husband sees me how bad I suffer and is supportive but he really doesn't understand....YOU ALL DO....thanks for being here...hope to meet some great friends in a crappy situation....sorry couldn't resist..... emoticon
