I UK People.
I'm down in Sussex. I did do Spark people a few years ago and it really helped. Then I was running my own business which took up all of my time.
Now I've retired and have time, especially with the Corona virus so I'm Sparking again.
I've had 5 operations on various arthritic bits over the last few years, and although I've really fought to keep walking and swimming, I've lot a lot of muscle tone and put on weight.
So I'm logging my food and Sparkpoints and trying to do the 28 day Daily Fitness Challenge to the best of my ability.
HOping to meet up with some of you on-line soon.

Hello I'm Sally
Single mum of 4, 10,8,2 and 10months, had a turbulent few years, troublesome relationships, disappointments in professional, and 2 bouts of perinatal depression, anxiety, PGP and a bone growing out of my toe has meant that I've put on about 3 stone, have zero fitness and developed a bad relationship to food.

So in a nutshell I'm totally ready for a change and start living instead of just existing. I'm starting teacher training in September and would love to be on the right track health wise by then.

I find online groups easier as I'm still struggling with anxiety in person, and want to participate in the communities as I found it really helped with perinatal depression.

Happy to help, and hope to be helped x

Hello everyone!

I'm originally from the US but have been in the UK for nearly 10 years now. I first joined Sparkpeople when I was in the US but have only recently rejoined it (under a new name as I can't remember my old one, plus it's time for a fresh start!). I've tried various ways to manage my nutrition and fitness over the last few years but nothing has really stuck, so I've returned to Sparkpeople in hopes that diving in with both feet - and participating in the community this time round - might help. This is Day 3 and I'm feeling positive, so that's a start!

Totally can't do diets! I liked the idea of the Good Mood Diet - that you eat carbs separate from protein and eat carb snacks to get the feel good factor and an energy boost, but at the end of the day you still have to restrict your intake and just the thought of doing that sends me loopy!
So I'm back to three meals a day with nothing in between to control the amount I eat without deprivation issues.

Hi, Annie! I've not heard of the book - please post about it when you finish reading it. I'm curious as to whether it seems to make sense. And of course if you do the diet, if it works! :-)

p.s. And I forgot to add, welcome to the team, lol...!

Hi - I have been sparking for a while, but am just about to give The Good Mood Diet by Judith J Wurtman and Dr Nina Frusztajer Marquis a go. Reading the book at the mo. Will start the diet on Monday (two lots of birthday celebrations at the weekend).

Hello All
My name is Anne and I am a recently retired, married, mother of three adult children living in the Manchester area. I have let my weight build up for years and as a result now struggle with several health problems including osteoarthritis in both knees and sciatica down my right side. Following a bereavement of a close family member I realise that now I need to get my own house in order for the sake of my health. Iím looking to you all for encouragement that I donít get at home :). Thanks for letting me join your group.

Hi group
I'm Lucy from a sleepy village in Bedfordshire UK.

Hi there

I have just rejoined SparkPeople. I have completed something called OurPath which has put me back on track eating wise and so far I have lost a stone. This is the only SparkPeople forum where I can post that and people will know what I mean!

I'm doing low carb (but not ketogenic), moderate protein and relatively high fat. This works for my insulin resistant body so I'm going to stick to it.

I am walking quite a bit - I averaged about 12,000 steps last week. Some days the total is very low and some days very high (today's is ridiculously low!).

I live in London and I'm planning to do some of the London based walking routes over the summer (once it comes back). I'm starting with the Capital Ring. I'm also going to have to get my Pilates & Yoga head back on - can't beat them.

I'm glad to find a UK based group. All that American positivity might be a bit much for me. What do I find when I sign up to the UK group: a Spit or Swallow thread. You guys!!

I'm Gayle, also from California, San Francisco Bay Area actually. Been here in Nottingham 18 years now. Met my hubby in one of the first chat rooms back in the 90s and made it official in 2000 to start the new century with a bang!
The weight's been creeping up along with health issues, so thought I should get honest with myself. This looks like a good place to do it.

Hello,

I'm another Expat, living in the north but originally from California and i love it here.

I've had to relearn how to garden here - back in Cali I practically just threw the seeds out and watched them grow. With a lot of sad little failings, I am not giving up until my garden is full of edibles.

Oh yeah, I am 30 something, have two rescue mutts, and a South Yorks husband who is seriously the most patient man on the planet.

Hello, Desiree, welcome to the team - or welcome back, as the case may be, lol...

I know what you mean about blending in. After almost 20 years in the UK I still have a "pure" American accent, despite my fruitless attempts to acquire a British one. I blend in until I say something, then the game is up.

I can't remember if I introduced myself before. I dropped out of Spark for a short while, so I'm not actually new. I come from West Wickham in Kent, but I've been living in Japan for forty years. I love to go back home for visits and feel the same as everyone else instead of sticking out, but there are lots of things I like here too.

Hi, I'm Willow. I'm from California but relocated to England in November 2015 with my husband and daughter. My husband is from here. I am an auditor and travel quite a bit for work , two weeks at a time. New foods, eating out three times a day on business trips and allowing my self unlimited cheese has gotten me to a place that I don't want to be. Did I mention all the Celebrations candy? Yeah that too. Since I'm a gadget person, I joined to see if group support combined with healthy eating habits and exercise can help me form new habits.

Remember, weight loss is 80% food, 20% exercise. I've found that, as I lose weight slowly with exercise, but I look better because I am more toned and fitter too. Paying attention to the food loses me the most weight, specially when I eat less lol.
KASEYCOFF
I find that, the moment we get to France, I relax, and the routines are less of an issue. At the same time, I miss my little girl studying in London (when I say little - she'll be 17 in a week, but always, but always, will be my little girl).

POLSKARENIA: like you, I live in two places, as I'm American by birth and British by marriage. I find it confusing sometimes to try to re-adjust from one place to the other. It can take a while to find my feet in terms of routine and things that are different.

LADY_XANADU: I hear you about the high school reunion! Every time one rolls around I'm torn - I want to see everyone, I want to lose weight, color my hair, get a facelift (lol), before I see everyone. So far the "catching up" has always outweighed the "I need to lose weight" factor. A couple more years and my class is coming up on the 50th reunion - now, that's hard to believe!

I'm 56 in March, born in Croydon, have lived in various parts of the UK and now making my home in the South of France gradually, since the referendum last year. We are still keeping our base in London, in my childhood home, as my daughter lives there and is currently doing a BTec in performing arts at the Chickenshed Theatre School. I'm also second generation Polish and fiercely proud of it.
I love cooking all sorts of food and exercise regularly, using my own equipment in France and going to the gym in the UK.

Hi, Scatty! I don't do much (enough!) fitness, but I follow a semi-vegan diet these days. I guess I'm more of a flexitarian, but I don't often eat meat, cheese, eggs, etc., and I experiment with vegan recipes more than any others.

Welcome to the team! :-)

Hi,
I'm a 52 year old mum of three living on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders. I work part time, try and grow lots of veg and I'm vegan. Bit of an old hippie really!
I need to lose about 35-40 lb and I'm trying to achieve that with lots of exercise (I'm a big Zumba fan), reducing those bad snacks and even worse glasses of wine.
If anyone would like to say Hi and be a fitness pal that would be great.

Hello, Irene,

You've "sparked" (lol) an idea for me: I'm an American who has been living in the UK for nearly two decades now.

At first, I found the cooking somewhat daunting. I had never used a scale for measuring out ingredients, I've never been able to wrap my head around the metric system, and when it came to translating Fahrenheit into Celsius for oven temps, I was truly lost.

It was a steep learning curve, but eventually I overcame it. Now, I've even made quintessential UK recipes like Christmas pudding, Eccles cakes, and hot-cross buns. (Though to be far, a decent Yorkshire pudding still eludes me, lol.)

This is where *your* idea came in: I will start a thread on our team forums about translating recipes from the American version to an English format (for example, so many of the recipes in SP's database) and translating British recipes to the American equivalent.

I also might be able to help in the category of "The recipe calls for _____, and we don't have that here; what can I substitute?" I remember spending a long time looking for Crisco before I realized it was not to be had. And yes, I did finally find a reasonable substitute. ;-)

Hi, I'm Renia and have been re-igniting my Spark this year. I'm a second generation Pole, from Crystal Palace, but now spending more and more of my time in the South of France, near the beautiful medieval city of Carcassonne.
I'm now fitter than ever, going to the gym in the UK or working out at home in France, having signed up to the gym pre-hysterectomy in January to aid my recovery - it worked and I was back in the gym 11 weeks post-op!!
2017 will be even better for me!

Hello UK.... Thanks for welcoming me. I look forward to getting to 'know' many of you.

I'm a senior getting on in years or so I felt until the Dr. a couple weeks ago diagnosed some vitamin decificiencies. A shot of B-12 equals a shot of energy.

I'm no longer employed so my time is my own, and I just can't understand why the excuses and procrasting come into play. IT'S TIME TO STOP THAT! I live in a condo with a fully equipped gym and I don't use it, at least 'til now. It's time to take advantage of this advantage, especially in the winter time. I'm joining the challenge to track the cardio mileage. Support and encouragement appreciated.

Anyone wish to be my Spark friend??? emoticon

Not married, haven't been for almost 30 yrs. I do have two beautiful daughters, and three grandK, two of male, and the young lady. No pets, but I am a huge lover of cats. Both my fur buddies have gone over the rainbow bridge and they are missed.

Well UK friends, I'm off for: 1) a haircut and 2) a walk because a lovely park is near the haircutters.

'til later. emoticon

Hi All, Thanks for the welcome, Trev. I won't give a long preamble as it's all on my Sparkpage. I have been Sparking since March this year. Needed to lose the couple of extra stone I'd been carrying for the last ten years or so for health reasons - mainly blood pressure. Done that by knuckling down to get serious about sorting myself out and using SP nutrition and fitness trackers to keep watching my intake and stay motivated with regular cardio and other activity. Also had a few great Sparkfriends who can see my activity feed and really helped with encouragement and feedback. I am now around 12st 7lb, inside my healthy BMI, and maintaining. My main issue now is I look a bit scrawny and certain areas of skin are somewhat creepy and loose (I hate to look down when doing planks). I hope the elasticity will return at some stage but meanwhile I am increasing my strength training and cutting back on long cardio sessions. I am living abroad at present (southern Europe) so who knows what the future holds emoticon

Hi all, I've recently started my journey again ... Just like every time I start with passion and within one month I get bored and stop which makes me put back the weight. I've returned to sparks because it has a great community and lots of rewards for achievements. I hope to stay with your help and motivation. :)

I live in Lincolnshire and I need to lose about 3st. I can't exercise a lot so I walk instead.

Hi, I'm from the East Midlands and am a 63 yo grandmother. Happily married and just looking to change my lifestyle, as am pre-diabetic so looking to change that by diet and exercise.
I need to lose around 6 stones, but will take it half a stone at a time.

I enjoy reading, pottering in the garden and walking, mostly on the flat as hills are not good for my legs or bp at the moment.

Finding my way around on here so may make some mistakes, but will figure it out, or shout out for help if needed emoticon

Hi! I'm from east London/Essex borders. I'm a 67 year old grandmother of two gorgeous teenage girlies. I'm interested in Victorian and Edwardian England, mediaeval history, calligraphy, model making, reading, food, stamp collecting, crosswords and word games. I have three cats and a retired ex-racing greyhound, and I support Rikki's Refuge. I joined SP several years ago but up until now have not been a regular visitor. I have lots of health problems and I have also been diagnosed as ?borderline diabetic. I need to lose about 2 stone. At the moment I'm working my way round the SP menu suggestions but finding I need to change a lot of the foods because of my allergies. Ho hum...

I'm Ginfizz, 44 yr old woman from Cardiff. Found SP three weeks ago, through a random Google search for flexibility exercises.

I am enjoying the challenges and appreciate the structure and routine of filling in the daily trackers. I would like to lose some weight along the way but establishing a healthy pattern of eating and exercise is my main focus. I am finding it very helpful just to observe the ups and downs of the various activities I am tracking and make small changes as I notice the issues that need fixing.

Hi all
I'm kind of from Norfolk (parents in the Forces so not really from anywhere but we were in Norfolk a lot as a kid). Currently living in North Cornwall, right on the Camel Trail.

I make jewellery for a living nowadays, I was a dog groomer for years but semi-retired after smashing my wrist to smithereenies. I cycle a lot, play guitar and read. I walk my dogs for miles, well I walk the youngster for miles and have a short walk around the block with the 19 year old. She doesn't want to go far, nowadays.

Blessed are the cracked for it is those who let in the light.

Hi! I'm Danny. I'm from Glasgow, Scotland and now I'm living in Mexico City, Mexico. My husband is Mexican.

I'm halfway my weight loss journey and I stay away from added sugar (this has helped me so much) processed food and artificial sweeteners. I try to eat as much clean homemade meals as I can. I love yoga, I do bodyweight training and I'm on week 8 of the C25K program.

I miss so much the Scottish weather with the cool windy rains... it's always so hot here in Mexico :/

I working hard to reach my goals!

DaNnY!

Hello!
I'm originally from Bromley in Kent, but I'm living permanently in Japan (Japanese husband). I last went home nearly two years ago. I reached maintenance two years ago. I like strength training and Pilates. I walk quite a bit because of my commute. I'm a teacher. My retirement age is 70 in five years, so it's a good idea to keep fit!

I'm Janet - born and brought up in Bromley, Kent, but now living in Lincolnshire.

My interests are trying to keep fit and to cook healthy meals. Love reading, and watch far too much TV.

I also believe we should try and exercise our brains too! So I have just started to teach myself Spanish - who knows, perhaps one day I might end up in sunny Spain!
