Hi,

I regret to say, I have stepped down from being team leader of this group. If one of you would like to be a team leader please request to do so from the "Help" center or you may contact the remaining team leader. There are many ways to learn how to become a team leader. Once you have become a team leader you can become a member of the "Team Leader" team. From there you can learn anything you wish, either by looking things up or by asking questions from other team members.Don't be intimidated, it's not as hard as it looks. You just need motivation. If you have any further questions, please message me. I will be happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability.

Have fun!! I wish you the best of luck!

Looks like there is interest to do a challenge in the Around the World Swimming Challenge, but none of us know how to start threads and have it track the challenge. Can you touch base with bluefish2? Thanks. I thought I sent this to the Team Leader, but I'm not sure. I see it posted here! lol

Hi Cheryl! No worries. I'm new to the team so I'm not exactly sure how it works. I would imagine we would start a new thread for a challenge and post distance there. I don't know anything about how team goals work with individual trackers.

As I mentioned in my post the beginning of the year, I am sure I don't know how to post and make my swims count for the team in our virtual trip to where ever. I log my swims in my personal streak page but have no idea if it gets transferred to the team totals or what so I will need someone to help me understand HOW to get my swims ( 2 -3 times a week equalling 1 + mile per swim) to count for the team. Also need to know when we actually start and how to keep track of our progress. This is a real dummy here folks, but I would like to help. hugs, Cheryl

Vdreza it is virtual! Since we woke up to snow again earlier this week in Chicago there is no way I'll be getting in Lake Michigan for a couple more months. LOL.

I will be traveling for the holiday. I will try and get the distances posted when I get back.

Is this "virtual" ???? I am in TX so physically swimming in the lakes isn't possible! But I would love to visit and try some day! I have never done this, so please explain how it works!

That sounds good to me. Anyone what to start tackling the Great Lakes? I can get the distances across. I am rehabbing from an injury right now but am hoping to get the all clear to get back in the water by mid next week. I usually swim 3 days a week a half mile to a mile dependent on my time.

Do we want to do a challenge like whatever the distance is across a certain landmark?

Looks like there are 3 of us! Let's just roll with that. Should we set our own challenges? I can only get in 1.25 miles each week. I work two jobs and doesn't leave me much "extra" time. But I would love to converse with fellow swimmers!

Hi! I was wondering if this team was active and had any current challenges. I am a swimmer and would love to have a swimming challenge.

I have just joined this Swimming Challenge Team. I swim M-F at least 25 each day (1/2 mi). I hope there are still active participants in this Team. I really enjoy swimming and thought it would be great to converse with other swimmers. Check out my Blog from Sept 2013. Me and my fellow Mermaids conquered Devils Lake in Baraboo, WI. Hope to hear from everyone! Let's go SWIMMING!

Hello all,
I, too, have been fairly inactive on SP until recently and am trying to find the motivation to reach my goals. Because 2013 was a rough year due to knee surgery and the stress of my husband being deployed, I gained back about 15 pounds. I swim 2 or 3 times a week regularly and like to spin, Zumba or walk other days. But I need a little bit more ... maybe to swim around the world?!? Anyway, this challenge sounds fun and hope we can encourage one another to succeed.
Patrice

I doubt that I would know how to participate in a challenge and log my swimming to help the team. Maybe you can walk me thru how to post so that the team can benefit from my swim routine. hugs, Cheryl

Hi Miriam,
I have been off and on SP but recently committed to getting fit. I started working out with a friend about 10 weeks ago and along the way started swimming. I love it! I swam everyday as a kid and getting in the pool at the Y feels great, if is done thing that I can do and feel good when I'm done.
I haven't participated on any teams here, so I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Karen

Hi there Miamirn, welcome to a position of leadership in this team. I am in my 60's and have been swimming most all my life. Never competitively, but for myself or to fulfill lifeguarding requirements. I have been a guard, WSI certified and taught school-age kids but that all was years ago. I swim now just for my pleasure and to help with my weight loss efforts. I try to get into the pool for 48 minutes doing a little over a mile roughly 2 to 3 times a week. I have no idea if the laps I log on my sparks streaks ends up getting counted in any team challenges or not. good luck and Merry Christmas with hugs from Cheryl

Hi all you future team members and welcome!

I am miamirn. I am your new team leader at Around the World Swimming Challenge. I see I am not listed as a team leader, but my name is sure to be listed up on the upper right hand side of this page with Jmmathews1 soon. I am new to team leading so you will have to bear with me while I get my bearings. We intend to upgrade the sticky challenges. If you have any challenge requests please let one of us know. I am hoping to recruit team members, so if you have any friends that would like to join this forum, we would welcome them with open arms.

Let me tell you something about me. I have been on SparkPeople since the Spring of last year, but only became committed in the last six months. I think SparkPeople is a wonderful place. It has given me a place that I can call home and given me a whole lot of motivation and support. My goal is to loose 50 lbs.

Around ten years ago I had to retire from nursing because of a really bad back. I worked as a Pediatric RN for 30 years and loved it. My weight was never a problem. I was a skinny mini until I left nursing and became sedentary due to pain and debilitation. I've had to cope with severe pain since then. Hopping from doctor to doctor, I sought decent treatments to help me. It took me about eight years to find just the right doctors and medication treatment. There was one drawback. The medication I was taking to control the pain was also making me gain whole lot of weight. I was no spring chicken any more and all the weight centered in the worst place, my belly. I looked pregnant and couldn't wear my clothes any more. My facial features changed and my nose looked bigger. And I felt felt deformed and ugly. I had never experienced anything like this before. Even though my back pain was under control, my weight was out of control. I couldn't stop eating sweets to cope with the pain and let myself go. It was hard for me to walk and my center of gravity changed where I felt like I was unbalanced. My cholesterol and blood sugar was high. Then one day I woke up, My doctor told me I was pre-diabetic! Something had to be done. I hadn't worked in years due to the pain and disability, but I needed to do something for my self and situation.
One day I was watching my grandson at his swimming lesson and realized I was able do that job, too. It was both therapy, fun and would help me be more active. So,about three years ago I became a Learn to Swim instructor for young children at the local university. I love the job. It is located in sunny South Florida. I teach year round My work was five days a week and I lost 30 lbs over a year just playing with children in the water! Lol. Then, one day I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis which was another set back. It is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that effects mostly the joints, but also can affect any organ. I am stiff all the time and have more pain and swelling. Not fun!

Coincidentally, I found SparkPeople! My saving grace. I didn't take it seriously for the first year, but I didn't stop tracking occasionally and posting on the forums. I got serious about six months ago and started to challenge myself and make friends here. So, here I am! ready and willing to do what it takes to do whatever it takes to succeeed! I swim three days a week and would like to do some open water racing one day. I walk three times a week, but not enough to loose the weight. I'm starting to feel better about myself and my self image is improving. And most of all, I have not given up! My motto is "Never Give Up!"

So this is my story. What is your's. Feel free to post so we can get to know one another better and NEVER GIVE UP!

emoticon emoticon

Keep on Sparking!
