Hello Patti!

We're so glad you decided to join us! I understand about need to change your spark teams for variety. We will be starting a new monthly Buddy Support Group Challenge at the beginning of March. Be sure to watch for the announcement so you can decide whether you think it's something you would like to do. Until then, you can look around, chat in the monthly team chat thread, ask questions, etc...

I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

I recently had ACL reconstruction surgery so I haven't decided whether I'll be joining the challenge for next month or not since I'm still recovering. If not, the other team members and leaders are all here for you.

Hi MiMi!

Welcome to the A&I Team! We're happy to have you join us! I'm glad you decided to join the November BSG Challenge! I look forward to getting to know you. Many of us have struggled with the same thing of losing and then gain it back plus some. If you can stay with SparkPeople you're chances of shedding the weight for good are better than without SP. Having people support and encourage you along with using the SP tools is invaluable.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me or Amy or anyone else. Hope you have a wonderful November and enjoy the Buddy Support Group Challenge!

Barb, wow, that's so cool that you lived in the Denver area (Aurora) for several years. I live in the Colorado Springs area but my Grandpa lived in Arvada for probably close to 50 years until he passed away several years ago.

That's cool that your husband fell in love with the Appalachian Trail. We have many places to go hiking here which is part of the reason we moved back here from southern Missouri where the longest trail we found anywhere near where we lived was a mile long. I don't doubt that the Appalachian Trail is tough! Haha, yes, every little bit should help!

Welcome to the team, Barb! Im Amy-one of the team leaders! I look forward to getting to know you! I have a few things in common with you in that Im also retired (from teaching) moved to a different state (from PA to FL) and love to hike! I just recently traveled from FL to PA and went through NC - I love that state! Now we are on vacation in ME. We hope to do some hiking in Acadia but there is nasty, rainy weather here right now!
Thats neat that you work with horses! I wish you lived to of success on your weight loss, so you can hike more easily on the AT!

Oh gosh, I lived in the Denver area (Aurora) from '89 to '92. Met my husband there and got married, lol. COlorado is a beautiful state! Side note: Hubs hiked the Appalachian Trail a few years ago and has been enthralled with the trail ever since--hence the NC connection. The trails are tough here, lol. Any little bit should help ;-).

Hi Barb, it's great to have you with us! Boy, I know all too well how disruptive moving can be and moving from one state to another is even more stressful! I've never been to North Carolina but I've heard it's beautiful. My husband and I moved to southern Missouri from Colorado about 15 years ago and a couple of years ago we moved back to Colorado. lol So, I understand what that like. How interesting that you're a retired nurse that works with horses now. You sound a lot like me in that I love being outside and hiking. Yes, losing weight will most definitely make those hikes easier.

Hi everyone! My name is Barb and I'm new to the team, although not new to Spark. I'm slowly whittling away my weight but it's been a major struggle of late with a move to another state (North Carolina) and a change in jobs. Retired R.N. who now works with horses now. Love being outside, and hiking. My goal is to lose weight to make those hikes easier!

Thank you Cathy. I’m looking forward to getting back on track. Bought some fresh fruits and vegetables today and my 5 year old grandson said “oh good! I love fruits and veggies! You bought them for me?” Yup bought them just for him. Lol

Hi Char, it's nice to meet you! I'm glad you decided to join our team. Most of us have known each other for a long time and most of us team leaders have known each other for many years. We are kind of a small family but we love adding new members to our "family". emoticon I understand how it can be difficult to balance exercising and eating right with work. Being around junk food and sweets all the time at work can make it especially difficult. Making time for exercise, especially when you are on call 24/7, isn't easy either, I'm sure. However, you don't have to do an hour or even a 1/2 hour of exercise all at once. Going for just a 10 minute walk once or even several times a day is a great way to get in a little bit of exercise on days you are tired or don't have much time. I'm so glad you joined the March BSG Challenge! It's a great way to get to know others on the team but it's also a great way to help keep you on track with eating right and exercising. I think you'll enjoy the challenge! If you have any questions don't hesitate to post it on the team wall!

My name is char. I’m going to be 53 in a couple weeks. 5 kids, 7 grandkids with half custody of the 5 yr old grandchild. I’m the manager of a 5 person elderly asst living next door and love it but I’m basically on call 24/7 which can be stressful. There’s always junk food cookies, cakes, brownies available at an arms reach there. It’s tough. I’ve also let exercise go to the wayside other than an hour here and there of occasional drum playing which can work up a sweat but I definitely need to be more consistent. My husband is also looking to be more healthy and drop 20 pounds so working on a team here will help me work better on our team at home

Cathy - hope you get back to normal soon

Amy - yes social situations are the worst - I think somewhere in "Atomic Habits" James Clear talks about this. Of course, it is just an excuse right? Nobody is making you eat anything...

Hi, Annie! Welcome to our awesome team! I love to read self-improvement books and I subscribe to James Clears emails, so I will have to check out his Atomic Habits book. I would like to stop snacking completely but it sure is tough, especially with social activities.
I look forward to getting to know you!

Hi there, THINKGOODTHINGS! Sorry, I wasn't able to reply to your message before now. If snacking gets out of hand for you then that's great you are working to overcome it!

Glad you rejoined SP to help you get your snacking under control and to get the weight off that has found it's way back on to your body. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and hope we can help you or at least encourage you to shed the weight!

Do you mind if I ask you what your name is?

Have a great day!

Hi - I'm 55, live in the UK, and currently re-reading James Clear's book "Atomic Habits" to figure how I'm going to overcome my snacking habit. It's not every day, but in certain situations it seems an automatic reaction. And it undoes all the good work I do the rest of the time, because most of the time, I eat reasonably healthily...

I re-joined SP just over a year ago, because I was alarmed at the rate I was putting on weight, after quite a long period of getting rid if it bit by bit. Since then I've put on about 10 pounds? I need to crack this snacking thing!

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Amanda! I thought you had been a part of the team several years ago. I'm glad you enjoyed the people and the challenges. I think we're a pretty friendly team. We'll start a new challenge in December. I hope you'll join us so we can support and encourage you on your journey. I also hope that the challenges will help to keep you motivated so that the numbers on the scale will continue to get lower. I know the scale can be frustrating but remember there are many other ways to determine how well you are doing on your journey. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

I'm cheering you on!

Hi! I used to be part of this team back quite a few years now. I always enjoyed the people and the challenges. The group was always supportive and nice, and I enjoyed getting to know everyone. I hope to do that again this time. I am back to try again and this time I know what I have to face during my weight loss journey. I am hopeful the motivation will stay strong and I can see those numbers head downwards again.

My goal is to get back into the best shape I can and eat healthier.

Hi, Michelle! Its always so exciting to have a new member join us! I think you will love our team, and will really get to know everyone and be able to give and receive support, if youd consider joining our monthly BSG challenge. This is my favorite team because of the challenge - you really get to know the members. If youre not ready for that though, there are lots of other threads to participate in (which I see you already doing!)

Thanks for your introduction and welcome back to SparkPeople! I can understand how youd gain the weight back after your pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I have no doubt that you will get the pounds off again!

I look forward to getting to know you! Taking a vacation to Australia is on my bucket list. I guess you are going into spring now while we are headed to fall, right? What is the weather like there now?

Hi Michelle! It's great to meet you and have you on the team. Many of us have known each other for a long time and it feels like we are like a family. Of course, we always welcome new members to the family. :) Sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes and putting almost all of the weight you'd lost back on again. I think you'll love our Buddy Support Group Challenges!! We'll be starting the 3rd week of our month long challenge on Monday but I've asked Barbie (BARBIE176) to send you information about it. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better as well encouraging and supporting each other while we get to know each other. :)

Hi there! I am Michelle (or Myth) - I'm an Aussie, mum to 3 kids aged 12, 10 & 6... I joined SP in 2009 and reached my goal weight (losing 25kgs / 55lbs) by 2012, then I got pregnant, had my second round of gestational diabetes, put it all back on again, and here I am, starting again at 45. I love group challenges and I have been searching the Spark Teams trying to find a group that is as active, fun and supportive as the friends I used to have on here (who have almost all disappeared while I have been gone). I think I have found it :D Looking forward to playfully meeting my fitness goals with you!

emoticon and emoticon , Arlene! I love your spark name of HappyDaz! emoticon That already gives me an indication about your attitude and spirit! emoticon

We do go on a first name basis here, and you are welcome to share all about yourself to us. Rambling is allowed! LOL Feel free to add all of us as SparkFriends and take a look at our pages to get to know us better.

I am Amy, one of the leaders. My basic information is: I live in central Florida with my dh, Dave and our 29 year old son, Sean and two Cairn terriers, Max and Sophie. We moved here for retirement -- prior to that I lived in southeastern PA. I have been on SP for a long time, and still have about 20-30 pounds to lose (I am down 25 from my highest weight.) I love this team more than any other!

We have monthly themes with our Buddy Support Group challenges, and this month is Overcoming Obstacles, which is perfect for what we all experience in our lives. We have bumps in the road (I have had a number of them, breast cancer being my most recent one,) but we definitely become stronger and more empathetic towards others because of our challenges.

Congrats on your successful weight loss so far! I have no doubt that you will continue to reach your goals through your motivation, attitude and the support from Spark! I am so glad you decided to make yourself a priority!

Glad to see you writing on the team wall, answering the questions of the day and participating in the games. If youd like to join our challenge, just let us know. I sent you a spark mail about it.

Hope you had a terrific Tuesday!

Oh - My real name is Arlene.

Strange, I haven't been asked that by any other team so I get a feeling this team will be a bit more personally and just what I need. Everything I use on line deals with "HappyDazs". When I log in any place on line - I get a "good morning Happy". It's hard to have a miserable day when my day starts off so positive. Don't get me wrong, my life has not been all fun and games. I am a cancer survivor, have been laid off more times than I want to recall but I'm also a firm believer that when one door closes, another door opens and I always true to make the best of a bad situation. I try to only worry about things that are in my control; I do my best to be positive and make choices so I have no regrets. Since I have decided to put me first, I am actually enjoying life. Those close to me have noticed such a difference in my attitude and my spark.

And so I ramble on and maybe I've shared too much. I'll tone it down in the future..

Hi, I'm new to the team and relatively new to SP. I have had a weight issue since as long as I can remember. This past Christmas I hit my highest at 265 and FINALLY decided I needed to take control of my destiny and make me a priority. I have lost 40 pounds now and plan to loss another 20 by the end of the year. Long term (end of next year) I would like to be down to 130-135.

I want to become a sexy grandma before any grandchildren start arriving

emoticon emoticon Amanda! We're so glad you joined the team! Boy, I understand where you are coming from. At one time I had lost 50 lbs but have gained 15 - 20 lbs back. I'm working on getting it off again though. That's awesome you are so motivated to be successful again! I'm going to have BARBIE176 send you some information about our monthly Buddy Support Group (BSG) Challenge. It's a great way to help keep yourself accountable and motivated to reach your goals while getting to know some of the other team members. Of course, if you decide it's not for you, that's alright too. Don't hesitate to post a question or comment on the team wall. I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

Hi, Jae! It's nice to meet you! I've been on SP since 2009 so you've been here a couple more years than I have. :) That's wonderful that you like to encourage people through your writing. I too like to inspire others to not give up on themselves. I am married but don't have any children. I'm sure you fur babies do bring you a lot of joy. I have 2 feathered babies that bring me a lot of joy too. I also have a host of health issues that I deal with on a daily basis. I hope you'll post on the wall and wherever else you may want to. The April chat thread is a great place to chat with others on the team and get to know them a little better. Wishing you lots of success on your weight loss journey! emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon Susan, I understand all too well how life can get in the way of your goals or intentions. I'm sorry you gained everything back but I'm glad you came back to SparkPeople. That's smart of you to start back by gradually getting back into it. We're so glad you decided to check out the team and become a member. You've definitely come to the right team for motivation and support. I've asked Barbie (BARBIE176) to send you information about our Buddy Support Group (BSG) Challenge we're doing for this month. If you decide it's something you'd like to do just let Barbie or me know and we'll be sure to put you on a team. If not, then don't hesitate to post anytime you want if you need help, encouragement or support. Wishing you lots of success on your journey! We're here to help you in anyway that we can! emoticon emoticon

Hi! My name is Susan and I've been on SP on and off since 2008. I did well for the first few years and then with some major life changes; I gave up for a while and gained everything back. I am now ready to be a Sparker again. I found this team while posting a comment on a members blog and decided to check it out. I am stepping back into this slowly!

Thank you!

emoticon Carol,

It's nice to meet you and it's great to have you on our team. emoticon We are sorry to hear that progress has been slow for you, but know that you are not alone. Many of us are in the same boat. Bummer that the respiratory bug arrived just in time for Christmas, but hopefully that will be gone very soon. You've come to the right team for giving and receiving motivation. I am happy to see that you are signed up for the January BSG Challenges. We're here to help you in any way that we can. emoticon

My name is Carol, and I've been on Spark for a few months now. Progress has been slow. I get motivated and do well, and then something seems to stop me from doing what I need to do. I came down with a respiratory bug just in time for Christmas and have just begun to feel that maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I recently celebrated my one year kidneyversary. The immunosuppressive drugs weaken my system and make it hard to fight an illness. Hoping to kick this bug in time to start the January challenge. I love to walk, be with friends and family, and enjoy life. I'm anxious to meet new people here, and I've enjoyed all of the support and encouragement I've gotten through the members.

Hello Susan, I'm glad that CATLOVER (Hope) took the time to thank you and that you decided to check out her page. I think it's great that you decided to find out what A&I was in reference to. I will definitely thank her for inspiring you to join the team.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry to hear you were hit by a car while crossing the street on your bike. You aren't the only one with new hardware in their leg. lol About 5 years ago I broke my leg, although, from the sounds of it, not as badly as yours. It sounds like your broken leg was much worse than mine. That has to be hard to be on enforced rest for 2 months. Since you can't do any weight bearing exercises and you can't get your leg weight. The only suggestion I have is to do chair exercises. You may not be able to do anything with your one leg but you might be able to with your other leg. Of course, you can always do upper body exercises and maybe even some exercise for your core (stomach and back).

If there is anything else you need feel free to post on the team wall or contact me. Meanwhile, we're glad to have you on the team and look forward to getting to know you! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello. My name is Susan. I recently posted on CATLOVER's blog and when she took the time to thank me (always a good thing) I decided to check out her page. There I saw mention of A & I but did not know what it referred to. Upon further investigation I figured it out and decided that ASPIRE & INSPIRE might be a good team for me to join. So you can thank CATLOVER For one new member.
Seriously, although I've been on SP for several years, in many ways I am starting over (from a completely different place). I used to be active and reasonably fit for my age. Then on Oct 16 I was struck by a car while crossing the street on my bike. I had surgery for a badly broken leg and am the proud owner of some hardware I did not possess before the accident. I am on enforced rest with no weight bearing for at least 2 months. My 10,000 steps a day goal . . . out the window. 10 minutes of exercise a day . . . not currently possible (but I will get back to it). I really don't know what my goals are at the present time. For awhile I was hobbling around on crutches and thinking I was doing well. Until the hospital saw me for my first post op check up. Apparently all that mobility is counter-productive in terms of healing these breaks and having the body not reject the pins/plate. Wheelchair with leg elevated. No going into the bathtub. How am I supposed to deal with the greasy hair? Anyway, I am not whining; can't stand whiners. Just have no idea where to start to get back on track. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

emoticon Pat,

It's nice to meet you and it's great to have you on our team. emoticon You have a great attitude and it sounds like you are really determined to get rid of excess weight. emoticon emoticon You've come to the right team for giving and receiving motivation. Barbie (BARBIE176) will send you an invitation to join the Buddy Support Group (BSG) Challenges. She'll let you know what's involved with being involved with the challenges. I hope, after she explains what they are, you'll feel like it's something you'd like to do. If not, that's okay too. We're here to help you in any way that we can. emoticon

Hi! I'm Pat

I live in Ohio and I love to walk, when I can. I have a few disabilities that keep me from doing as much exercise as I would like to, but I walk in the house when I can and try to do some outdoors. I love to laugh and have fun and I do like dancing in the hallways. lol My goal is to get under 200 pounds by the end of the year, and to eat better. I like to cheer people on and love to motivate. Thank you for this team! emoticon

Hi emoticon Marni,

It's great to have you on the team. emoticon I hope you are able to get a job in Germany as a pharmacist.
Setting mini-goals is a great way to get the weight off. I like the goals you have set for yourself to achieve. They sound like really reasonable goals.
Best of luck to you in achieving your goals for the rest of the month. emoticon Looking forward to chatting with you on the July Stars Goodie, Goodie Challenge thread. emoticon

emoticon , Marni! It's emoticon to have you with us! Many of the team members are on exercise streaks of 10 minutes or more, so you will fit right in with the summer challenge group. It sounds like you are being very wise to have mini-goals. I wish you a successful rest of the month, and I look forward to chatting with you on the summer challenge thread! emoticon

Hey all
Glad to join u and to join sparkppl
I am 29 years old, from Egypt but currently in Greece for holiday and unemployed for the moment ( used to be a medical rep but couldn't take it anymore so I quitted and am looking for a job as a pharmacist in germany since I am actually a pharmacist)
I hope this is the time when I grab things in hand and take control over my life
I've been always overweight since I was a child
Currently I'm 83 kg and hope to be 60 kg one day that means 23 kg off which is almost 50 pounds
I've decided to take it slow though and put some minigoals for myself
My primary goal now is to reach 80 kg by the end of the month
Also I gmhave set a goal for my self to exercise for at least 10 min each day in addition to walk 11000 steps per day
