emoticon I just joined this Team and read all the different challenges and such. I'm very excited about amping up my exercise program. "What exercise program?" you ask. LOL That's the problem! I don't...and blaim it on the winter (even tho I'm in Florida) because it's too cold to go to the pool. Anyway, I'm very excited to do more exercising at home in my chair, as it hurts like h..e..double hockey sticks! to walk. (Why is it I can go grocery shopping for 60 minutes and just bearly start getting cramps, but after only 10 min. walking on the sidewalk my hip is KILLING me???)

I'm hoping for lots of encouragement and fun with the challenges (I love keeping track of points!)and getting to know all of you. Good luck this week! Merry Christmas!

New here! Joined about 10 days ago, but just now getting to stop in and say hello.

This past year has been one of change for me exercise-wise. I formerly loved, loved, loved fast-paced walking! But with my left ankle becoming so easily stressed (big-time!) and hurting, I've become way too sedentary.

I tried an inexpensive rowing machine six months ago---and didn't like it. So that's now out of the picture. (Sold it on craigslist.)

I'm now trying a chair boxing DVD that I just got. So far, I've not found the heavy cardio response that I loved from fast-paced walking!

My plans are to keep searching for that magical "something" that works for me! LOL

Susy

Hi there,

Just joined this team tonight and was recommended by one of my friends who told me to get in touch with dawnwaterwoman or emmabe1. I recently had a serious car accident where I had brain surgery and now waiting on back surgery which is why I am unable to do any lower body exercises whatsoever. Any advice on upper body exercises would be brillant. I look forward to getting to know everyone, take care.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Sarah and I'm 34. I injured my hip bone somehow. It just happened. Chiropractor had to do an adjustment. So I've been kind of tender in that area. I haven't been able to work out out of fear I'll do something else to it. I can still walk and mover around though w/o alot of pain. I'm so glad I found this team. There are some good idea for easy exercises. Plus I work at a sit down job so this helps alot.

Hi, just thought I'd introduce myself real quick. My name is Paula. Due to several disabilities, I'm unable to exercise, or even walk much. I thought this would be a good group to join.

Thanks,

Hi. emoticon ,

I have been involved with Sparks for quite awhile. A friend from my usual board said to check you out. I had foot and leg surgery the first of September and now need to try some new exercise that doesn't involve my feet and legs. I just got the boot off, but not able to stand for very long until my foot and leg muscles heal more. Meanwhile, I gain some wgt back.

I injured my foot and leg due to walking too much on hard surfaces. It kills me to sit still. I want to get outside and walk again. What I am looking for is Spark's Mobility Exercise that I can do this fall/winter.

I have many health problems but work to overcome them. I have been trying to use my weights and balancing ball.

emoticon Debbie

It has taken me a long time to get here due to health problems. I wish all of you Spark's Hugs and you too will get there too.

Hello, I am new here. I sometimes use a wheelchair (tho less and less this year!) and I have found chair exercising really helpful in attaining my goals. I'm excited to find a team and looking forward to trying some new chair exercises for when I'm not up to the Wii Fit or going out with friends or to the gym, I can STILL work out :) November goal here I come ;)

Good Morning, one and all. I just happened across this team and I thought it was a wonderful idea that I had not considered. I work, at a desk, for very long hours. Most days I work overtime. I've always stated to myself that I would exercise "if I had the time." Well, now I've found a way to exercise while on my tush, so we'll see how dedicated I really am to my healthy lifestyle goal.

I had never heard of chair exercises before, so I have a lot to learn.

Hi everyone, my name is Shelley. My friend "Jakeandnellie" told me to check you out! :) I have injured my Achilles Tendon, so I'm limited to exercises that keep me off my foot. So glad you have this team! I have about 150 lbs. to lose, so even if my foot was good, my bad back from all the extra weight, limits what I can do. I hope to learn a lot from all of you! :)

Hi Everyone:

I'm S-L-O-W-L-Y recovering from an autoimmune illness that had me bedridden for 2 yrs and as a result, I became very, very deconditioned. Other challenges caused by the illness are vision issues and neuropathy. Hoping chair exercises will help me on my way to recovery! I'm very excited to find this group!

Hi! I wanted to join this team because I sit at a desk all day and have a very long commute to and from work. Why not put all that sitting to good use and get in some exercise. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. Have a great night and weekend.

Hi All,
I just recently joined this team because I help care for my parents (my dad in particular). They are in their mid 80's and I was looking at chair DVD's to help them get some of their strength back. I ordered one today for them. My plan is to do them with my Dad. If my mom likes them too, they may end up doing them together.

I really appreciate all the great DVD reviews and other info on this team.

Hi, I just joined this team. Too tired to scout around much tonight, but just wanted to check in. I'm a walker, had hoped to take up running, but now I'm having problems with my right foot and ankle. Not sure what is wrong, have an MRI scheduled for Monday, but for now I can't walk without a lot of pain so I need to find a new form of exercise. I will be back tomorrow and explore this site better and try to get to know you all better. For now I'm off to bed.

Hi, I joined Sparkpeople in June 2010 but not been real on top of things and got off track after a few weeks. I started back on Sunday to try again. I have had foot surgery on the bottom of both my feet and they are still healing so I am restricted from my treadmill, doctors orders, so I have been looking for some other way to exercise. I didn't realize so much could be done sitting down. I found some interesting chair exercises on You Tube. Looking forward to find out more about chair exercising and get moving.

Hi! I just began with this team. I am 52 years old, the mother of three adults and married to a wonderful man. I have been dieting and exercising for many years and about 3 years ago I was at my lowest weight since I got married, that was 30 years ago. Last year I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and lost wieght while in the hospital but put it back on. So I am feeling better and now I want to lose the weight I put back on. I have to watch everything I eat and I also cannot stand for long periods of time because of flat feet. So now I can get help with Chair exercises for cardio and strength and not put weight on my feet.

I am prepared to go anywhere, provided it be forward. David Livingstone

Hi, I just joined the Team and am very excited to get motivated and try the chair exercises. I have been a Spark member since 11/2008 and lost 50 pounds during my first year. 2009 was a good year. 2010 has been a struggle. We moved into the mountains of Colorado and I think that has contributed to my struggle. I don't have flat surfaces to walk on and one week after moving, my left knee popped out of the socket and I was on crutches, now a cane and I have been flipping through gaining and losing the same 20 pounds all year. I'm tired of it. And, hoping I can make some head way before the year is over.

My goal is to lose 5 pounds every month until the end of the year. HELP Mr. WIZARD!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone. I'm still new to SP, but I'm glad I found this group! I broke my ankle 16 years ago and have a bunch of hardware in it. I was walking about 40 mins. a day until May, when my ankle really started bothering me. Arthritis has set in and I have to get all the hardware out in Oct. So I'm trying to find alternative exercises to keep me going until I can do may walking again.

Hi Everyone I am Holly!! I thought i was on plenty of teams but i think this one is the right fit for me too..so here i am!
I own a bakery in far northern NY, am a substitute school teacher and a horse and livestock show announcer.
I can swim with no trouble and do all i can, but the winters are cold here so i slack off on that come mid september. I have been walking 2 hours a day but its REALLY taking its toll..i have one knee that is totally shot and take an awful lot of pain killers to stay upright.
I will be ordering my chair workout dvd today..thank you so much for being here..and thank you to EMMABE1 for suggesting the team!!
Looking forward to meeting you all!

hi everyone, I am new to your team, I had my right hip replaced in April, and I am having my left hip replaced on August 31st, so I need some exercise sitting down, I guess, I never thought of "chair marching/walking", I have to ask does it burn calories, I hope so. emoticon

HI, I'm Gini. Right now I have a broken leg and need some exercises that I can do sitting down. I can't reach the DVD so I can't use those so I need some that some of the more seasoned members might know. I also need this group after my leg heals as I am so badly out of shape that I find I can't walk very far or stand for very long. I plan on making changes in my life so that I CAN do these things in time to come but for now I will exercise as I can withy your help.

Hello everyone. I am Molly and happy to be here with you all.

Renee so sorry you hurt your ankle. I guess you do need to slow down a bit with that injury and you have no choice unless you want it to remain injured. Find a way to have things handled for you, perhaps asking for some assistance would be in line. I know that is a matter of trust. I have to do it myself sometimes.

Hi there: Glad I found this group. I have to exercise to get to my goal weight, but am not as flexible as I once was, not as thin, not as durable. A friend in Ca goes to chair exercise 2x/wk and loves it and is always in such good shape. When I saw this group, I knew it was for me. I like that it is a safe haven, thanks for letting me join. Am returning after a couple of years. Working on a fresh start. Thank you Dawn for your welcome to the Over 50 with 50 to Loose Team. From that I found this team. I have numerous medical issues and due to some infection problems I can no longer go to my beloved therapy pool at the Y.

Dawn you are an inspiration! I am so glad this group is here because exercising is one of the major issues I have.
I am so looking forward to the support and advice this group has to offer.
Hopefully I can truly change my habits!

Hi there! My name is Heidi and I just joined this group and I have to say I love doing chair exercises even though I don't have any physical limitations. Since I am so overweight and find it hard to run, I walk. I recently started doing chair exercises using resistant bands to help tone muscles because I can't afford a gym to use fancy weight lifting machines. I am here to get motivation and find support. I don't have the support of my family in my weight loss journey and most of my friends don't have weight issues. Thank you for allowing me to join your team and I look forward to getting to know you!

Saw a friend had joined this team and thought it would be a perfect match for me. My mobility is quite limited and traditional exercising is very difficult for me. I'm really good at sitting though .. lol

Checking out the DVD/Video links and hoping to order a couple in the near future. Meanwhile, I'll be "marching in place" with some of you.

Hi Everyone! emoticon

I'm Moxie, and while I'm new to SP, I am VERY familiar with this whole weight loss business. I'll try to keep this short - I'll keep the long version for my blog.

I joined this group because I have fibromyalgia, and when I'm in periods of flare-ups (like right now, unfortunately) walking around the house seems like an effort. Yet I know from experience that success for me only comes when I'm regularly exercising, and I need to find a way to keep doing that when it's the last thing I want to do.

Ideally I'd love to get back into some water aerobics, but even if I can, it won't be an every day thing like I think this could be.

Anyway, here I am - and I hope to be a supportive and motivating member of the team!

Hi! I'm Greenie and I joined your team after a referral by another spark member. I have been looking for chair exercises to do since I'm in a wheel chair waiting for knee surgery. I was given a link to one of your threads which lists resources for books and dvd's. I have a book for 'Tai Chi in a Chair' but wanted more info. I'm looking forward to participating with your team!! emoticon

HI, I'm PJ and was directed to this team by a discussion on another team. If you see my sparkpage you'll see I've been a member of Sparkpeople since 2007 but was derailed by cancer and now although cancer free, I'm still trying to get over the cure. Because of that, I have mobility issues and I'm limited to no weight on the left leg, so I use a walker and wheelchair. I also have to do some exercises on my hospital bed since I wouldn't be able to get up and down off the floor either. I really look forward to getting ideas from the team and a lot of motivation to keep moving.

Good for you for taking the first steps...that is a very big deal, especially being so honest about your situation. I have a sciatic nerve problem and the joint sometimes goes out which makes it hard to move. I am however doing stretches to help the muscles in that area. I need to get on a regular program and not be so sporadic. I bought some new shoes which are suppose to help the back and legs. I keep on plugging away and hope to get better each and every day...even if I do one good thing for myself it counts. Thanks Honey

Hi
My name is Sandra, I live in California.
I'm new to the idea of exercise.

I'm obese, (hate that word) pain ridden, have ckd (kidney disease) arthritis, back pain due to old ruptured disk, I need a new knee, have diabetes, and a few other ailments. I'm 69 and I don't know where to start. I sound pathetic, don't I? LOL

It only hurts when I move and sometimes when I don't move. I am a really happy positive person, even if it doesn't sound like it. Honest.LOL

I have tons of kids, grandkids, family, friends, my religious beliefs and lots of support but nothing can take these diseases/pains away. except a hefty dose of codeine works once in a while)

I do have a Richard Simmons "Sit Tight" chair exercise video. I like to "watch" it... LOL
Maybe that could be a start? I could actually start doing it?
Ideas welcome.
PS this is really a big deal for me to admit all this.

Hey Rosy, Welcome to our team, we are glad to have you! I do not have a resistance chair. I do use resistance bands in my chair exercise class and I am starting to use them at home also. I feel I am getting stronger and do not always need my cane now.

Rosy--my sister and I also have neuropathy. She gets vary bad burning feet. I have more balance problems and it has become a very big problem. I don't know what a Resistence chair is but I shall goggled it. I have a stationary bike and it works very well for me. I'd like to have a tilt board if I bought anything else.
Good luck to you and emoticon

Hi Everyone,

I've been on SP for about 6 weeks, and I'm loving it. This group caught my eye because I just got a QV Resistance Chair. I have issues with balance because of neuropathy. I need to do some strength training to get my cholesterol and osteoporosis in check. So far, I'm enjoying the chair. I also do the treadmill slowly or until my feet start to pain.

I'm on a mission to living a healthier lifestyle. I've given up all white flour, trans fats, and try to eat more fiber.

I would love to hear from anyone who has the Resistance Chair, and how they like it.

Regards to all,
Rosy_Tiamo

Thanks for the welcomes! I've just a few days ago started some exercises in--or I should say ON--my bed. Ones that would normally be done on the floor, but since I would have trouble getting down on the floor and probably be stuck there because I couldn't get back up, I do them sitting on my bed. Must be working some because I can feel those muscles starting to wake up!! Don't know why I never thought about it before!!

Hi, my name is Brenda and I'm new to the group, but not to SP. I joined in June of 2007, then became ill and wasn't able to do much. It has only been in the past 5 or 6 weeks that I have returned and really started checking everything out.

I have diastolic heart failure, depression, borderline high cholesterol (just a couple points before my doctor says it's time for meds for it), GERD, overactive bladder, pre-diabetes, arthritis, as well as being morbidly obese.

I am not able to do much exercising yet, just a little walking and very simple exercises. Can't manage to get down on the floor, and if I did, I wouldn't be able to get back up again! I have been doing some sitting exercises that Richard Simmons suggested, and was excited to find this group to join for support and encouragement. It's always nice to talk to someone who really knows how it is--I'm sure you all know what I mean.

WELCOME Carolyn. You will find some really great resources here to do exercising seated. There is a whole thread dedicated to that. Also swimming is good for a bad back and you can do that just about year around in Florida. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Jane

Hello I'm new , not to spark people but to this team. I was doing fine , then about a month ago I started having back problems. I recently found out I have arthritis in my back. My doctor will tell me how bad when I see him this comming friday.( follow up ). any way although I'm eating in my calorie range I'm slowly gaining the weight back that I previously lost. I am moving slower and not excerising like I did before as my back is giving me grief. several spark friends suggested I join this team and do chair excerises, and here I am. carolyn

p.s. I am in Florida, 70 years old.

Hi, I'm Linda and I am in a wheelchair. I try to be as active as I can be and consider cleaning and even dishes to be a form of exercise, cause from this chair you do things like that differently. I look forward to getting to know you all and to check the team posts.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

What a pleasure to find this team. I've been cruising the web to find various chair routines and look forward to learning of more right here.

Hey, I am new to this team and I am excited to be here! I met Dawn several weeks ago and she is amazing! She has motivated me to get back to the YMCA and my pool exercise, and tomorrow I go to my first Chair Exercise class! I am so thrilled I found this team! Hugs, Nancy

Hi all. I'm new to this team, too. I am quite heavy and have lower back issues, a torn meniscus in my left knee and plantar fasciatis in my right foot, so the gym is out of the question, at least for now. Just discovered chair exercising and have ordered a dvd to get me started. I look forward to reading the posts from this team!

Hi,
I'm new to this team, but not to Spark. I've been here since November 9, 2009. I walk for 30-60 minutes each day, but I break it into intervals. I was in accident a few years ago and still have pain in my left leg/knee when I stand or walk too long. I do my ST sitting and use a chair aerobics video each day.
I'm single, 59, live in northeast Ohio, and am a retired elementary school teacher. I have two cats, Jake and Nellie.

I'm visiting our daughter who has really impressed me. She has given me the inspiration to finally get into something that would help me. I was referred to this page by DawnRobin2 & I thank her very much. We are going to do it!

Gloria,

Thanks so much for pointing me toward the "Links" thread. I might not have noticed it, and it's just what I'd been hoping to find. I know about some videos, but would like to be able to explore more. "Links" will be helpful, as team members have experience with them. It can get costly to go shooting in the dark.
