Hello! I live in Western Colorado in the U.S. We were blessed to spend 3 days driving around Scotland in May 2015 - left my heart there. I cannot find that my lineage has any Scots, but my husband's ancestry has a Scottish influence - the closest surname I find for him is Leitch. We hope to return to Scotland before we are too infirm to bag a Munro or two.

If our info is correct, I am related to Benedict Cumberbatch!

So very cool! I'm going to have to get to work, verifying our info!

"Doyle and Cumberbatch's common ancestor was John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster and the fourth son of King Edward III of England, who lived in the 14th century, the website said. John of Gaunt was Doyle's 15th great-grandfather and Cumberbatch's 17th great-grandfather." (from the article)

Our family tree goes back as far as it does, because of the royalty in the bloodlines.

This is what I posted on CMFARRELL36's page (she's the leader):

"I am very interested in all things Scottish, and many of my family ancestry is from Scotland. I love plaid, kilts, Scottish oatmeal, shortbread, Scottie dogs, a fine brogue, handsome Scottish actors, and more!

I was on the team a while back under a different name, Lady Cascadia. If you can't remember, that's fine. It's been a while! Sorry I've been away so long."

So all you have to do to read about me is just scroll down a little bit. I posted a few things here already. And I'm back! The other account is for when I want to write negative blogs and/or I feel like everyone's misunderstanding me too much when I write. I haven't been there for a while. Maybe I only need one account? I don't know. I'll just keep it just in case I want to be there.

It's so romantic, Rosemary, that your mother and your father fell in love that way! Visiting Scotland would be super amazing! If you and your husband settled there, it would be an adventure everyday!

I found out recently that Annie Lennox is Scottish. She's the singer from Eurythmics.

I might get my DNA tested sometime in the future, but right now it seems expensive. Plus, I was disappointed to learn that you're not a lifetime premium member after spending all that money to be tested. So I don't know... Maybe someday. I might find that a lot of my other relatives have had it done, and then it would be more worth it. Maybe I'll get tested, sometimes be a member to get work done on my tree, and then take breaks when I want to save some money. But I'm going to try another way first. The Mormons have a lot of detailed records. I'll check in with them. I need to verify the work gathering info that one of my relatives did a few years ago, about two decades ago, actually. Did you know that Ancestry.com is owned by the Mormon church? It's true! That site is cool, but if you go into any of their temples, they have these family history rooms where you can do research and print out your family research. That's where my other relative got the info she got. She did so much work! She has so many pages. Our relatives go back to about 3 A.D. with some German lady named Hafilda. But the work was never verified, and it needs to be, especially since it goes back that far. It may be incorrect info.

Hello everyone! I just joined this team. I'm in the United States, and my mother was a British War Bride from WWII. She would tell us she was a mix of English, Scottish and Welsh. Unfortunately she passed away when I was only 14, so I can't ask her for more information about our heritage. But I've always loved Scottish and British things. Really love the accents! I'm also a big fan of David Tennant, Robert Carlyle, Ewan McGregor, Peter Capaldi, Karen Gillan and Billy Connolly, and I'm sure others I can't remember at the moment. I love the music too, and the band Capercaillie (I saw them when they toured in the US), and love the song by The Proclaimers, I'm Gonna Be (500 miles). I would love to visit Scotland some day, and think it would be a fun adventure to live there for a bit...maybe some day when we retire. Anyway, looking forward to meeting everyone and learning more about Scotland.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Due to health problems, I'm not really interested in researching my family tree.

My grandfather was adopted, and we know his original last name and the country that his parents emigrated from and what state they settled in. However, their name is very common, or was at the time that his parents came to that place. There is no way to eliminate who is who from the long list of names. I don't know what a DNA test would show that I don't already know. I know that their name was Hartman, or Hartmann, which is a Jewish name. Also, they came from Germany, before World War II. They bought a farm, and they were unable to make a living at it, and lost all of their children. I think the DNA test was $350 last time I checked. That's a whole lot of simoleons! Knowing I'm German-Jewish from my paternal grandfather is enough. It took me a lot of guesswork to find out about his patronage, because it was something he never told me. I just had his name. But I have done a lot of reading on Jewish people, and I learned about how he must be of Hebrew descent that way. It's really, really hard for me to go any further with my research into his parents, because there was this census after he was adopted and he is gone from the records, since he was living with his new parents. It's like everything was washed away. The census says only who was living with the people that one year, not if they had ever had any children that were given up for adoption. So he would be on his new parents records only. There might be a birth certificate floating around somewhere, but I'll never know. I'm not in contact with my paternal side of the family.

Welcome to the team! You're love of the rain is obviously inherited as it rains not quite every day but pretty near it in some areas.

Enjoy your research into your family tree.

Incidentally, if you are interested, a friend on a different group has adopted relatives. she did the DNA test through Ancestry. I don't know how expensive it is or if this something you would wish to follow up but the info is available online at Ancestry.

Fell by the wayside last year but back on track now.

Oh, I hate sunny weather! I really do. I get vicious sunburns. Give me rain or an overcast day, and I'll be happy! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm not accepting friends on this account. I'm on another account, you can friend me there. It's AUNA_CALM. Just look me up!

Thank you for the warm welcome! emoticon

You have good taste if you also like David Tennant and Robert Carlyle! emoticon

I have Stargate Universe on DVD and I'm afraid that I've watched it so many times so far that it stops and starts all the time. The first season anyway. I haven't seen the second season. Don't tell me what happens! I've bought Hamish MacBeth too. Excellent show! Yes, it was filmed in the highlands of Scotland.

Lady Cascadia, welcome to the team. I'm originall from OHio now Florida. We do have a couple from Scotland here.

My Scottish is from the Douglas and Arthur clan.

I also like Robert Carlyle and David Tennant. We get the reruns of Stargate Universe with Robert Carlyle. I wish his Hamish MacBeth would come on. I saw that on Youtube, maybe it was something he did in Scotland, never saw it on my TV.

I tried to friend you but couldn't get into your page.

That's a lot of rain. Have a good week and hope you have sunny weather. emoticon

Hello, my name is Lady Cascadia. I have Scottish people on both sides of my family tree. I am from the Crawford and the Campbell families. I live Portland, Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest, where we have an annual rainfall of 11 inches more than in London, England!

I am a fan of Robert Carlyle, as well as David Tennant!

I'm Courti from America, but doing my family tree I found that I do come from Scottish blood. Arthur and Douglass. I'm trying to learn more about my Scottish clans and further my tree along that line.
I'm married living in Florida and retired. Gaining a few pounds these last few months and trying to get back into a set mind to lose. I think that rock bottom is endless

Would my Arthur clan be an offshoot from the McArthur or MacArthur clans?

Hi- I am (pseudonym) Moira Doon, 57, born & raised here in Upstate NY. I am an adoptee, raised by family which identified as 3/4 German. I grew up knowing my bio mom was Scottish & Irish but it didn't hit until I found her. I'm working on the geneology and there's 0% German in the tree thus far, my bio mom's mom is 100% Brit, & her mom is Scottish & Irish. From the lines in the tree, it's primarily Scottish, & direct maternal is M'Connel/McConnell. Hence, I've been seeking more of my Scottish & Irish identity. I enjoy the Celtic Festivals, Highlands Festivals, and Scottish Athletic tournaments in our area. Unfortunately our local Scottish-American group isn't very active. Also my Mountain Dulcimer group, especially myself, love learning and performing Scottish songs on our Dulcimers. Nice to meet y'all.

Hi! Greetings from Kentucky, in the U.S. of A.. I decided to hook up with you all at a request of my girls. They and I are interested about finding more about my Grandfather's lineage and that includes Scotland. McGivern was his family and he came over from the ole country shortly before WWI. My grand-daughter is a bit off a history buff, and is eager for knowledge, especially of her family. As for me, I never miss the opportunity to learn from others. Especially when it comes to local food favorites. By profession I am a Registered Nurse, retired now an enjoy the time spent with my grand-daughter who is 7 and entering into the world of riding, Hunter Class. In doing this she is following in her Grandmother's early years.

Looking forward to exchanging many ideas, experiences and isms with everyone.

Hi, there!

I'm Christine, 59, married with 2 young adult sons, and I live in Newmilns, near Kilmarnock.
I am a fairly new co-leader here, though I haven't managed yet to establish contact with Mrs.Dormouse.

I know we're all busy in other teams, and with the rest of our daily lives.
But it would be fun to get some community going here, again.

Please take time to introduce yourselves again, in the new "Introduce Yourself Here" topic.
And come by the "virtual party" and "a day out" topics and chip in there, too.
