LOL! People say that in my running club, too, and ask me how much he weighs, because I pick him up like a puppy sometimes then too. He weighs about 55 lbs, but I think I am just used to doing it for so long. It's weird but sometimes when he is agitated, that will calm him down.

I've got to say Cody is a cutie for sure.

You've got muscles on your muscles the way you picked him up on your blog video

My Mom rescued a wild kitten from her garage. That cat will try to attack my dog - and it's about the size of my dog's head! It's funny my Mom says my dog Cody in love with her cat - Coco. He will let Coco slap him around and just still look at her, intrigued.

Hi EABL81, so glad you have joined us.

Your pusses are just beautiful. It's funny how "once a feral always a feral" tends to be true. Wonder if it's something that has been bred into them, I know how odd that sounds. I'm glad they are in your care and not roaming about feral.

Hope you like it here. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone,

I've been on Sparkpeople for about 2 months now, but just found this team yesterday. I have two cats, a brother and a sister. I "kat-napped" them from a feral and completely wild momma when they were around 12 - 14 weeks old. That was 10 years ago, and while they now think I'm mostly trustworthy, they're still not too sure about the rest of the human world. We've been working on it, though, and at least they'll come out from under the bed when visitors come, as long as the visitors are not too numerous or too noisy. I think that is about as good as we can hope for.

Thanks very much for the goodie!

Cody goes in the water, but doesn't "get" swimming. He will go to chin level and go back. I think he needs to be in the water with other dogs that are swimming to see what to do, and then he would like it more.

Hi Tri so glad you joined us here.

You'll find this one of the best teams on Sparks, very friendly and we talk about all sorts of things.

Cody sounds like a real livewire just perfect for you!!

I live in the mountains and I know how much the dogs love it here and my Lhasa Apso Bruno just loves the water, he hasn't seen the beach but I'd bet he'd be in the water in a minute.

Hi, Jules I saw you were the team leader for this team, so thought I would check it out.

I have a rescue dog - half Australian Shepherd and half full-sized Poodle - two working breeds. My last dog was the same mix, plus a couple others, and was a fantastic dog. The paperwork at the shelter said the previous owners gave him up because he was "Too Hyper." I thought... how perfect... LOL I am a marathon runner and play tons of sports.

He runs all my marathon training runs with me - up to 21+ miles, then comes home and wants to play fetch! Dogs are the best running partners - any time of day or night, any pace.

We have gone to Colorado and Michigan together to go cross country skiing together. We play snowshoe fetch with my running showshoes. He LOVES the snow. We go to the lake, we hike, we go to the park, go for walks - it is wonderful.

We are moving soon from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest and I think he will love it there too. He doesn't really get tired - but he can get hot - so not as much of a problem out there. Lots of mountains to explore as well as the oceanfront.

His name is Cody.

Hi Diane, welcome to the team.

From the picture I'd say Benny has definitely got German Shepherd floating around there and the ears look a little Rotty.

If you do a Google search for pictures of German Shepherd/Rottweiler cross you will get some pictures you can compare. I think the first one looks a lot like your Benny.

Hi, my name is Diane, middle name Adele. I love animals of all kinds, although I am allergic lol! Currently I have a 9 month old mix that I rescued from PuppyAngelsRescue. His name is Benny and I love him so very much! I also have a cat named Manny that likes to bite...ughh. I am so glad I re-visited SPARKPEOPLE the other day. I have been a member since 9/2010. I am very interested in feedback on what type of dog you think Benny has in him. His vet papers say rottweiler mix, but his mother is a german shepherd mix, that I saw. The dad they said they didn't know who he was. He came up from the south as a rescue. What I really want to say is that I am thankful for the support I have gotten on here already. I have friended people and they friended me back emoticon

I love my family more than food!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Yes, Amy the cat is definitely geriatric. I almost lost her earlier this year as she was very ill. Fortunately, I found a "senior cat-milk" product at Petsmart and was able to force feed her for three days until the meds from her vet kicked in and she regained her appetite. She is hyperthyroid and on meds to reduce thyroid levels. I also have a med for appetite stimulation to use on an as-needed basis.

Yep, the greyhounds are total loves. My two are outgoing and love everyone. Though they have brief bouts of stellar-speed activities in the back yard, they seem to nap around 22 hours a day!

Hi Julia, glad to see you here. Greyhounds are just beautiful aren't they, such smoocy couch potatoes. That's a fair age for your cat, Mary Anne here (millisma) has a couple of geriatric cats as well.

Hi, I'm Julia. Live in the Phoenix, Arizona area, hence DesertJulz. Right now, I have two retired racing greyhounds, age 5 & 6 and one 17-yr old cat that I took in when her original owners had a baby who ended up with cat allergies.

Hi - my name is Juli and I am mom to 4 furbabies. My first 2 - Pancho and Janie are 4 years old and were adopted from our local Humane Society on a 2-for-1 special. Pancho is the nursemaid of the bunch and wakes me up to tell me everyone else is hungry. Janie is a black-white one-eyed cat who was rescued from a parking lot at 2 months old. A month later, a co-worker rescued one-month old Bella whose outdoor littermates were attacked by the family dog - Bella was the only one they could find. Bella is a silver tabby and the smartest one - she will look right at you and mew in response to her name. She will nudge me when it's time for everyone to get treats. 2 years later, my husband was out of work and was going to volunteer for a shelter - I didn't want to go with him b/c I was afraid I would fall in love with another cat. I walked around the center for about 30 minutes and didn't really bond with any of the cats until we got to the door, right next to the door was a beautiful black cat who practically leaped into my arms, purring loudly when I said hello. That was my black beauty Juliet (Ju-Ju).
I can't rescue anymore for the time being since I live in a condo, but as soon as we get a house with more room, I will look into rescuing a dog and maybe another cat.

As I sit here typing now, I have Janie curled up in my lap and Pancho on a perch next to me.

Hi. My name is Sandy. I am so lucky to be loved by 4 dogs. Webster is my oldest. Picture to right. He's a terrier mix - age 11. My next is Dudley. We were his last hope. This little Westie was returned to rescue 3 times. He was a little crazy. He's now just fine. Such a little trooper. Next is Auggie. We found him running, hungry, and cold and finally convinced him to come with us. He's a big guy..close to 90 lbs. And then there is GG Marie...rescue. She's small but mighty. emoticon

HI Guys
I love the animals that have adopted me!

My oldest, Gizmo, is an 18 year old Aussie Corgi mix. She has brought me so much joy over the years, I know I will grieve her loss when her time comes - which at this point I know could be any day. Often I walk by her sleeping and my heart stops a bit until I see her breathe.

Since Gizmo really can't walk with me anymore, I got a 4 year old Aussie Rottie mix at the humane society in January. Her name was Miley and she is ALWAYS happy and ready to play so I call her my Smiley Miley.

When my son was 5 (now 17) he brought home a Siamese kitten from a birthday party - Muffin is sooooo obnoxious when I go to bed and again when I wake up in the morning, demanding to be petted in a way that only Siamese cats can.

Then there is my "special needs" cat Dora. A friend of mine saw a man toss three kittens out of his car window about 9 years ago and knew what a softy I was. Dora walks like she is drunk, stumbling around the house and doing summersaults when she jumps up on the couch. I initially thought it was from the accident, but the vet told me she has a not-all-that-uncommon genetic disorder. She has no clue there is anything wrong with her and rules the house.

Last summer, the neighbor cat wandered into my house and had kittens - the cat, Rosie, and one of her daughters, Lillian, is still here :)

I am much looking forward to getting to know you guys and to hear tales of your special friends.

emoticon

Each day is a chance to make new choices *hugs*

Hi everyone.
I just joined the group. I have been working with a beagle rescue for about a year. I was unable to own a dog until April but now have adopted my beagle/basset mix, Sparky. I plan on fostering for the group in the future also. I was on track with my weight loss, but then my daughter and her children had to move in with me so my eating and exercise got derailed. Now that she is married and I have my dog, my exercise is getting back on track and I'm working on eating better.

Hi!
My name is Cocoa and I love this group. I wish everyone would adopt instead of buying animals. My bff Barfycat agrees- we adopted her 20 years ago from the Dumb Friends League and she was quite the bargain for a life time of love.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi, I am Susana and I am mommy to 5 adopted/rescued cats:
Lucky, age 7: Beautiful tortie (adopted) rescue shelter cat age 2 1/2 when we got her
Ozzy, age 5: grey tiger (rescued) was a barn kitten about 4 months old
Angel, age 6: another tortie (rescued) hit by a car, found her in melting snow approx. 1 year old
Orion, age 2: red/white tabby (rescued) ran into family member's home day before major snow storm approx 3 months old
Hazel, age 1: long hair, tiger tortie (adopted) rescue shelter kitten

All of our cats are my babies! Our home would be empty without them, as my (people) children are now grown and on their own.

Thanks!
I think part of it was house preservation. He's a climber! He likes to be up high, which I'm sure adds to his kingly nature. I got the condo when I found him on top of the fridge eating the houseplant I attempted to rescue!
The condo was a smart purchase though. It helps deplete his energy since he's strictly an indoor cat.

Hi! I adopted my 1 yr old Siamese cat Remy from a shelter in February. He's got to be the smartest cat out there! He took over my house as soon as I brought him home, and he's amazingly patient with the babies in the family. His favorite activity is playing fetch... something I did not teach him, he started this himself! See? Smart!
I'm working hard to spoil him. He's got a super tall condo, and I just got him a frog water fountain. The water comes out of the frog's mouth! LOL
I'll try to start putting pictures of him on my Sparkpage.
Looking forward to using this site. Looks likes there's a lot to do here!

Hi Peggy and DMBDreamingtree(now there's a mouthful!!) welcome to the team.

I rescued one of my dogs when she was @ 7years old, she is now @ 13 years old and has just come through spinal surgery. I loved Maggs from the first moment I saw her. Older dogs seem to be a little more settled than the youngs ones, not that I'd trade in my younger dogs.

Peggy so glad you have Lady and Tigger and I'm sorry about your husband. The dogs will certainly offer more love and support than you and he'll ever need.

Hope to see both of you on the chat threads so the team can get to know you better.

I love our dog & cat also. We rescued them both--the cat from a county animal shelter & the dog from the humane society. We sure get attached to them fast, don't we?

My name is Peggy & I am from Arvada, Colorado a suberb of Denver. My husband & I love animals. We adopted 3 animals already. We adopted an orange tabby, Tigger, & a domestic cat, cookie from a local animal shelter. Cookie ran away 3 weeks ago so we have no idea what happened. A couple months ago we adopted a daschund/terrier mix 1 year old puppy Lady. What a blessing they are to us. We adopted Lady as my husband has cancer & he had dogs when he was growing up as a child & then when he was married to his ex-wife.

Hi Jess welcome to the team.

What a lucky little dog she was when you came along. It amazes me at the sort of people (and I use the term loosely) who would abuse and starve a little sweetie like her.

So very glad she's being looked after now. Hope to see you on the chat messageboards very soon,

Hi, my name is Jess

I will be a grad student in the fall in N.C. I have a wonderful rescue dog, a Sheltie named Darcy. I adopted her back in February when she was taken from a home by an animal shelter after repeated abuse, and starvation. She is finally starting to trust people again and has started to play! She is super spoiled and I love her too much!

Hello all!

My name is Jackie and I'm new to the team. I live in Germany with my family, which also includes our dog, PJ. We adopted PJ from an animal protection group three years ago. At that time, he was about 6-months old and had just arrived to Germany. PJ is a rescued street dog from Romania.

We also have an African Grey parrot and his vocabulary grows each day! He's learned to repeat several dog commands...and in case you were wondering, yes, our dog actually did sit when the parrot told him to in the beginning. Now he pretty much ignores the bird! :)

I look forward to meeting others and sharing support on this team!

-Jackie
