Hi...I would love a motivation buddy!
I have used SP on and off for 2 yrs...with success when I participate!!!!

I am a 25 yr old SAHM...going back to school in Sept
2 active boys...one with special needs.
Demands of single parenting generally set me over the edge.
I am enjoying gym time...as it is ME time.
I have been an emotional eater as long as I can remember...
I would love to have someone to chitchat with and give words of encouragement...and accountability!

HILBYS,
I'm there with you. Most of my friends are tiny, either naturally, or they starve themselves and exercise like crazy. I cannot relate nor do I want to be extreme like that. I do have these extra "blankets" to shed that I don't want to have forever. I like food but need to form a better relationship with it. It comes down to accountability for me. I refuse to go down the "surgical route" either. It can be done with A LOT of willpower!

Hi-
I can relate to what you are saying. I, too, am new and trying to navigate this whole program. I have 3 children preteen and teen, and gained my weight with the last pregnancy - 85lbs and it's been there for 11yrs. I think depression has started this year with it all as I never intended to be this overweight at this point in my life. I am 207 and 48 yrs and spent most of my life binge eating and controlling weight with pills. After the kids, I stopped the pills, but not the eating and here I am. I live in Southerna California so the beach is always open as the weather is always great. I, too, have a very stressful life and sometimes when it gets bad, I find that I have consumed food that I wasn't even aware I ingested!! I live in an affluent community where everyone is stick thin natural or surgical means. I don't have many people in my immediate circle who really relate to what I am going through. So, I am ready to try cuz I don't want to go into my 50s with all this weight and I want to feel comfortable at the beach. emoticon

Hi
I only joined yesterday evening, so i do not know my way around yet. I am a mum of 4 young children living in the SW of England. I became very ill after the birth of my little boy nearly 3 years ago. I have been big for a long time but during this pregnancy i put on approx 112lb taking me to approx 365lb. I became very depressed and my mobility was near zero. I have never felt so lonely as i did then. I am currently about 285lb so some weight has come off. I am back on my feet and i can now get about a lot better. I am trying very hard to gain my fitness back but i have a fairly stressful life and i am very prone to turning to the cupboard when life gets me down. On top of everything, i was adopted as a baby and after 41 year (11 years of searching)a few months ago i finally found my birth parents - finding both my mothers and fathers families has sent me spiralling into an emotional wreck. I have a very loving husband but he does not understand why i hit the cupboard when things upset me and i was hoping to find some friends here who know how hard it can be. I really must shed some more weight so i can be the mum my children deserve. emoticon

Hi, I've been a member of this site for a little bit, I think since back in December of 08, but I have just now committed myself to becoming involved and truly getting on with the program. I am looking for a buddy because I just need someone to check in with every now and again to share what's going on with eating and weight and to hold me accountable for my eating options, as well as being supportive. (I hope to be able to do the same things for my buddy as well) I have tried to enlist a few of my friends and my fiancÚ to be that person but they let me get away with too much and they are not as committed as I am because they do not have to loose any weight. I am looking to loose 30-40 pounds and definitely eat emotionally!

P.S. I'm looking for a female buddy with a similar goal, to lose about 15-20 pounds. I've started running and completed my first 5K last month. I'm not a crazy runner, just trying to get some good cardio benefit. Anyone else out there who wants to reclaim her body and needs consistent accountability?? We could plan weekly weigh-ins, for example. I'm a stay-at-home mom of three (4,4 -yes twins - and 6).....

I haven't been on here for a while but the struggle continues! Whether you eat three times a day or 6, it's about calories in and calories burned. There are certain foods that can help your metabolism, however. From an article on pp. 138-144 in Redbook (July issue),I just figured out my RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) -it's 1405 - and that is the total number of calories I can consume each day without gaining any weight. If I want to lose, I need to create a deficit of at least 15% of my RMR. What is your number??

How do we change our mindset regarding food? I have read everything I can get my hands on, and I'm still looking for a magic cure for the EE. :)

I'm pretty sure it is just about your caloric intake, as long as you dont go over the set amount, 2000 or 1500 or whatever your calorie limit is, you should be good.

What works for me, and this is probably dumb, but throughout the day, I keep reminding myself that weight loss is hard and that what I'm feeling and what I'm craving is normal and is to be expected, and I keep reminding myself that if it doesn't feel difficult then I'm not trying hard enough, lol, sorry thats probably really stupid, but it works for me.

Hello. I am new to this site, but I definately am an emotional eater. I eat for every emotion there is. If I'm sad or depressed, I eat. Happy? I eat. Bored? I eat. I've found that I often reward myself with bad food. That's my first step. I'm going to find a different way to reward myself.

A little about me:
I'm 24 from California. I live near the San Francisco Bay Area. I just graduated from a credential program so I can become an elementary school teacher, but our state is a mess and there are absolutely no teaching jobs available and the few I find are going to teachers who have been laid off from other positions (stressful!). I enjoy reading and playing with my two little dogs. I would love to get into some more outdoor activities like hiking or bike riding, but I need to get more confident in my athletic capabilities and find someone to do it with!

Hey everyone! I have started off terriable at this! It seems like I am eating more often. Not alot at once just more throughout the day.

My friend said that it is better that way as long as I dont go over my calorie/fat intake for the day.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? Please I dont want to feel bad if I am doing something right. LOL

I really want to be healthier and lose this extra weight. I even have my husband doing the Walk Away The Pounds With Me. It seems to be much more fun when he is doing it to.

I am in desperate need of a buddy. My major struggle is at night time and for the past 6 months my weight has climbed 15 pounds. during the day I am a very "controlled" eater and do well with exercise.

At night, I deal with boredom and lonliness. Also, the stress of raising two teenage daughters alone can send me over the edge.

Is anyone interested in being a buddy - someone I can touch base with via email and who will hold me accountable? I am so close to giving up. The problem is most of my clothes are tight and I really don't want to have to shop for larger sizes.

A little about myself:

47 year old single mom
2 daughters - ages 17 and almost 19
Going thru empty nest syndrome as both girls are rarely home due to jobs and social activities
Work full time
Need to lose 30 pounds

Hi, been a rough couple of days. And it's very early in the morning and I'm exhausted again, like yesterday (which is not good for me) because that is when I will definitely tend to overeat. When I am tired my defenses go down and I really want comfort food at night. And I mean early night. Starting at supper and it can go on all evening long. So, tonite I'm going to have to be extra aware of what is going on and distract myself and go to bed early!

Take care and have a good Friday everyone!
It's good to be able to be honest and admit this to myself and to others.

Motivation is also my Achilles' heel -- I can do something for a few days or a week or even a bit longer, but then I get bored with it and go back to my old habits. I am hoping that joining this group will help keep me motivated and on track!

Recovering from that many surgeries in such a short time must be really hard, and evenings are always the worst time for me too for comfort eating.
You can do it, though, just try to take one day at a time and come here for support if you need it!

Just reading the blogs and posts makes me feel more optimistic than I have in a long time about my goals (even though I just joined) -- I hope it does the same for you!!!!

Hi Everyone, Nighttime is a challenge and in my home it is ice cream time. I read or do crosswords and cross stitch is excellent can't eat and stitch at same time. If I am going to have something I will make a mini bag of popcorn or a piece of whole wheat toast w/just a little peanut butter . When I want ice cream I make sure it is only a 1/2 c and low fat and it is planned in the day. Gum is excellent for a while and then brush the teeth and get some sleep. I struggle with boredom too but know if I eat the wrong thing then I just get mad and continue to eat the wrong things. Take care and have a blessed day.

that's a good one - thanks, brush the teeth and drink a sweetened tea. I know it is so hard to take our own advice and so easy to help and be cheerleaders for others! That is why I'm trying to be better about checking in regularly - to remember I'm not the only one who considers eating at home at night in front of the tv a "social outlet"!!

Hi, I seem to get off track late in the evenings and can't seem to stay on track, I'm also recovering from 3 surgeries in the last 6 mos. and that doesn't help, guess I'm kinda depressed about that and can't seem to stay motivated. Any one else having this problem?

So, I'm new to the group and to Spark. I have to stay at home today because I'm recovering from bug bites that sent my immune system into overdrive. Benedryl coctail all day. Sleeping and sitting on the couch all day. Food just down the hall. So far, I have been able to limit myself a little, but it's so hard when I'm home alone. Question: anyone know a good way to get extra protein with little calories/carbs?

My go-to for late night boredom eating is to brush my teeth, take a shower, and drink LOTS of water. If I'm craving something sweet, sometimes just tea with honey and some milk will help. I just wish I could take my own advice when the boredom cravings come. :)

Oh boy, just reading the posts makes me realize even more that I am such an "emotional eater". I eat if I feel depressed, sad, angry, lonely, tired and especially BORED!!! I, too, love to eat in bed watching the TV. It's amazing how much you can consume that way and I don't realize how much I'm eating because I'm so distracted by the TV. That's why journalling the foods I am eating is so important. It's making me accountable and think twice before I put it into my mouth (because I know I'll have to write it down) and it will total up my calories! Sometimes (I admit) I hate that. But I want the results of a slimmer body so it's what I have to do!!!!!

Take Care!
Strength to All of you out There!

Hello Everyone, I have been ignoring Spark People for about four months, way too long. I have gained about four pounds and finally realized I am only hurting myself. I have my mom living with us and she is always on me to eat and of course it is nothing I should have. I am back on track and really want to lose my 50 pounds. I don't get much help, my husband is good but he isn't here all day and Mom is. I do walk the dogs and have started going to a gym at least 3 days a week, but I could use a buddy or two. Thanks and my heart goes out to all of you trying have a great day and keep a smile on your face. emoticon

Sometimes I find that if i'm having a good day that I stay on track with my diet and new habits. For the most I really positive with my out look. But what I find is that when other people have bad days and they take it out on me that is when I feel my worst and the uncountable eating hits for a long time I was everyone dumping ground and all I could do was to eat to make me feel better. It took a lot of soul searching and I found the problem why i was eating so much. So I stopped being the dumping ground for the world and stood up for myself. By the way people don't like that. I started to feel better about myself and taking care of ME. But everyonce in a while I find my self slipping back into the old way. This week is one of those weeks

Hello everyone,
I lost 45 last year and gained it back when my stress got out of control. I have to stop beating myself up if I want a PB&J sandwich. I get to feeling all bad and disappointed. Then I figure what difference does it make now I've already had the darn sandwich. I honestly don't believe I will ever be able to NOT eat the foods I love. Darn sweets!! I believe I should have certain things in moderation. Beating myself up only makes it worse. I love to eat at night in bed watching television. It does not feel right if I don't. I am hopeful to loose the weight again and keep it off. It sure felt good to do it!! I am usually on a roll when I get my momentum going.

Good morning everyone. I'm new to Spark People but have been very impressed with everything I've seen & readd so far!

I am truly an emotional eater....sad, happy, bored, excited, etc. It makes no difference. I even get up in the middle of the night & eat. I have lost a substantial amount of weight (135) but still have about 50 lbs more to lose. Please note that I'm not trying to get to a specific weight but rather a healthy weight/size for me.

I work a flex schedule so I'm able to exercise every day I'm not working. I have a great support group of friends who work out with me & are very encouraging but I still find myself eating emotionally.

I'll take any ideas on ways to put a halt to my emotional eating.

Hi I am Gina. I am a wife and a mother of three wonderful girls. I am looking for a buddy. My husband and children are supportive and even exercise with me at times but I would really like someone to encourage me when I feel like eating everything in my house. I am a very emotional person therefore I eat alot when I shouldn't and hate myself for it later.

I was a spark member a couple of years ago and was doing well, since I quit the team I have gained a bunch of weight back. I know I can do this, I just need a push.

I have a lot of trouble with night eating...and drinking. A beer, or glass of wine, lowers my resistance to temptation. so I have to avoid alcohol. OK, one beer on the weekend.

One thing that works for me, is to do something with my hands that's seriously incompatible with eating. Knitting & sewing isn't enough for me, because I could put it down. I have to me cleaning toilets, digging in dirt, giving myself a manicure.

Second thing that works, is making sugar free jello, for a guilt free night time snack.

Living the life of the fit & healthy person I want to become.

Hey EE,

I am not new to sparkpeople or EE just have not posted on here yet. I too lost job and struggling with that. I do a lot of EE when stressed and wanting to be more active in this community as well as life. I actually weigh the most I ever hav ein my whole life. 211. It is discouraging but I know that I can do it. I struggle the most with emotional eating in the evening 7pm and after. I can do perfect eating throughout the day but later in evening I start EE. Any of you struggle in that way as well?

Hello EE team and I am glad to join you as a new member. I have been a member here on spark not quite a year and I have been setback a few months by some life changes. I quit smoking yay! then I lost my job! boo hoo. That was five months ago and I am still out of work, but still looking. I am trying to make it the best that I can and I am bound and determined to get rid of this emotional fat that I have put on around my midsection. Let's do this!

I've joined spark people last june 7. Sad to say I gained 2 lbs because I haven't been able to stick to my goals and haven't been eating right, haven't been getting enough sleep and exercise. But will try to do better tomorrow. I'll appreciate any support you guys can give me. :)

I know my weight loss journey will be full of hardships, temptations and cranky moods, but whatever happens, I'll never stop halfway. I'll see this through the end.

Good morning and ready for a great weekend. Yesterday was rough for me with energy a little down and temptation right around the corner from wherever I was. Why are there so many food commercials on TV? All were avoided and at my weekly weigh in, I lost 4 pounds this week. Yeah!!!!! emoticon

Hi Everyone,
I am glad to be here. Seems as though I am in some good company. I fought off that Peanut Butter and Jelly with somewhat all of my might...I feel good! I guess I'll keep reading your posts to see where I fit in and get an idea of how you guys do things. I would really like a buddy emoticon

Hi everyone! I just joined your team as it seems I may fit right in here. Seems like a lot of real people that support each other, and that is exactly what I need. I don't have any buddies yet, but would like as many as possible. In return, I promise to do this team proud and be there for all of you when you need me. I wish the best of luck to all of you in both reaching your goals and also in living the happiest life you can! God Bless! Debbie

Thanks for your post, Sherry. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Life can be very unfair.

I plan to follow your advice and try to be more forgiving of myself. You sound as though you've learned the importance of taking each day one at a time.

It's such a cliche', but I'm really happy to have found this site and to feel that there are supportive people like you with whom to share; it's nice not to feel alone in it.

Thanks again. Annie

I jsut have a general question. I was told there were articles on this board from a ?psychiatrist? about food obsession. Can anyone tell me the name of the post so I can learn what they have to say? I'd appreciate it.

Hey Jill I hear where your coming from I am in the same place as you. I have been trying very hard watching my food intake and exercise and each time I get on the scale it does not move. It is so hard but I keep trying and won't give up until the see that scale move. You do the same get motivated again and think how far you came and where you don't want to be. I know is it really hard because I seem to just want to quit and it is easy to do. Let's all motivate each other and just keep on keeping on. We can do this together.

Oh Annie,

I'm so sorry, I know a little about what your going through, my brother was killed by a drunk driver when he was 26. He had just gotten married, just starting to live his life and then it was gone. This being 2 years after my mom died. All of the horror I called my childhood is probably why I emotionally eat. The draw for comfort is so strong and that is immediate gratification. What we must learn to do is to find "other" healthy ways to comfort ourselves. Don't be too hard on yourself, you are doing the best you can. You just need to pick yourself up, brush yourself off and start again. emoticon
