Hello, all! I have been in Spark People for about two months now, and it has definitely been helpful to me. I've been quiet on the forums, but I'm here reading them. I've made some Spark friends, but I'd love to find some more "company on the journey."

I definitely find myself eating in response to emotional triggers and am working on changing my approach! I'm 50, recently separated, no kids, live in Vermont, work in communications and conflict resolution, and have struggled with weight my whole life. At one time, I was up in the obese category, but have settled back into "just" overweight. I've always had exercise in my life, so that's not new for me, but I could certainly amp it up! I also strive to eat locally and organically as much as possible.

My aim is to get into the top end of my "healthy BMI" (I still love my curves), which is about 12-15 more pounds.

Can I interest anyone (or two or three!) in being a buddy?

Cheers to all!
Kathleen

Wow CAROJENN, good for YOU! That's a lot of commitment to exercise. Good for you! I think I can always think I have time for (attempting to) eat right, but I can always have an excuse not to exercise, which is really unhealthy thinking for me. You're an inspiration. Keep up the great work IN THE BAHAMAS! (not that I'm JEALOUS or anything) hahah

Good morning fellow team members, this is Jennifer and I am checking in after a little break. I HAVE been reading the postings and emails and I am excited at the progress being made by team members.

Eventhough it's been a while since I have posted, I am still committed to SP and I have cut back on my erratic emotional eating and I have joined a women's gym (practically identical to Curves) and I love it (the workout is intense but it's only for half an hour) and I am faithful in attending it twice a day four days a week.

I just wanted to come in and send out a little update and encouragement to let you know that I haven't forgotten this great team and that I am still committed to losing weight and being healthy and whole.

Blessings from the Bahamas, hugs and health always.

Hi, my name is Jenn and I just joined this group. I am 32 and I have battled with my weight and emotional eating for way too long and I am really hoping this group can help me put the battle to and end once and for all. I have gained and lost weight for a while but since having my daughter 2 1/2 years ago, I have been battling to get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I lost most of the weight I gained during pregnancy but can't seem to lose the weight I gained trying to get pregnant. I am a type-A, control-freak personality who strives for perfection in all aspects of my life but I just can't seem to get even close when it comes to my eating habits. I love working out and fitness and I am hoping I can find a buddy who can help keep me on track with the food/eating (I don't want to use the word diet).

My husband is like yours. He always tells me he loves me no matter what and only talks about my weight twice a year. I am so ashamed of my weight gain that I do not want to post pictures.

Lisal70: Heck YES I can always use another buddy! PS: Props on your serenity prayer at the bottom of your comment. I say that MULTIPLE times a day. :) Haven't thought about how food applies to the "things I can change" part, so I'll be thinking about that a lot today! :)

Mikki, you will find the needed support here on the SparkTeam site. Have been logged on for about a week and really have changed my mind-set on how I'm looking at my weight loss. Started back at the gym yesterday which is a plus, watching my food intake and just overall making better choices.
Will be here for you with support to get you to your goal!

Hey! I'm Mikki, I'm 23 and a graduate student. I've been trying to lose weight for a while but I keep gaining the same 5-10 pounds that I lose! I'm ready to get rid of it! I'm very much an emotional eater! I work work work myself to the point that I'm so tired and then I stress myself out about all the things I need to do for school, work, and myself (like working out) and I reach for food everytime! And it isn't healthy food! If I have a bad day I eat...if I have a fight with someone I eat...if I am stressed I eat! I've got to stop this cycle! I need a buddy that will help me stay on track and someone to talk to when things get tough...and that goes both ways...I'll be there for them too! Buddies I've had in the past have quit within a few weeks and then I get weak. It isn't their fault but I know this journey will be easier if I have a buddy to do it with!

Most of us confess to the fact that we are emotional eaters yet what leads us to eat in that way.

I think a big part of my problem is that I create too much stress on myself being overly analytical about almost everything.

If you see that same quality in yourself, let's talk. Along with e-mail, we could also keep tabs by instant messaging. emoticon

Sounds like you have had it rough. My first husband was mentally abusive, I was with him for eight years and was about 260 pounds the entire time we were married. When I divorced him for having an affair with my best friend I lost 100 pounds and joined the navy. I met my second husband in san diego and he is very good to me. I gained from 160 to 300 pounds over the course of the last few years but most of the weight came on right after I was stationed to WA. My grandma passed away and I was alone, my hubby was still in CA on going on deployment. So anyway, I have been fighting my weight all my life and my hubby is a junk food junkie too, but has to stay within weight limits for the navy. He just says he loves me no matter what and says I am beautiful. I know that sounds nice but it keeps me in a comfort mode not wanting to try and work at it.

I dont know if i am an emotional eater or not. Being that my husband is a little over 400 lbs and will not do anything about it i guess takes its toll
right now i am trying to fix myself what is broken.
I was always tall and thin till I was 26 and had a kid. went from 130 to 175. lost 30 of those lbs and then was in such an abusive relationship i fled that marriage into one that was with a control freak., dont get me wrong he was a great guy but wouldnt let me work or have a car he wanted me at the house all the time. cooking cleaning and well you know. never any violence in that marriage but he was suffocating me. Of course all the foods i cooked where breaded and fried. i went from 145 to 230lbs. and i have been fighting it ever since. My top weight has been 305. and at the moment i am 294. I had lost down to 273, but my dad passed away last month and have been having a hard time with that.
My biggest crave is sweets. and i am type 2 diabetic.
i think i am a sneaky eater, because hubby doesnt want sweets he wants breaded stuff. and actually i dont eat unhealthy foods at all. it is the sweet thing i cant shake
I think my addiction came after my teens back in the 70s I was into the drug scene never addicted to drugs never craved them but was always in my reach and so I did them, alot. till I was 24 and I left that whole scene in dallas and moved away and never did any drugs unless it was prescribed like an antibiotic. or stomach pill or something like that.
of course now in my 50s, i am on anti depressants and anxiety pills. an diabetic meds. (not shots)
I hope within the next 5 years i have all this fixed inside me. am working on it.
thanks for listening

Consider it done! I added you just now. Welcome, buddy! I'm not usually this late of a night owl. I log on a lot during the day to log my nutrition and track my exercise, but...I think we could give each other some really good positive reinforcement! Keep up the great work! :)

Hi there I am in the same boat. I need someone who logs in a lot as well to help distract me from eating, especially at night. I have been off and on SP for 3 years. I did well at first, but without any support I quit after about a week. I am online several times a day so if you want to be buddies let me know

::waves:: Hi team! I'm going to make this really quick and to the point (It's one in the morning and I should be sleeping!)

A-I need a buddy. I talked a bunch of girls into joining SP and they joined, and...quit logging on. I can't get them to use the site or participate in exercises, motivation, dietary changes...I need a buddy on SparkPeople who logs in daily (or a LOT) and who is positive, and...that's really it. I just need positive.

B-I REALLY need someone who can relate to emotional eating. I have emotionally eaten myself practically into a new zip code. I quit drinking almost 2 years ago, quit smoking almost one year ago, became disabled also about a year ago, so I've eaten to supplement the loss of taking other things into my body, eaten over depression/helplessness feelings AND...when hormonal changes happen (ladies, you know what I'm talking about!) I want to eat a hole through my fridge.

If you can relate, or if you can just help me laugh while we walk through this junk together, add me, please!

Thank you. :)

Hi all! I'm new and looking for a buddy to help keep me motivated. I'm 26 and live with my finace in Seattle. My finace isn't into the whole eat-healthy-and-exercise thing, so having someone to correspond with who is also looking for a lifestyle change would be fantastic. I'm looking to lose about 12 pounds.

If someone's looking for a buddy and has similar weight goals, let me know!

I'm just really getting sick of my own excuses.

I'm also a newbie and would love to find a buddy to keep each other motivated. I live in Oregon and I'm 39 and married with two boys ages 14 and 9. My family isn't interested in my new way of eating so I'm finding myself making different things for me and them. They do try to be supportive though. I think I think about their happiness more than mine. Let me know if you'd like to be buddies. emoticon

Hello everyone! I've been a member of SP (take 2..lol) since June 22nd so now 9 days! I have lost 4lbs in those 9 days which is great but I have been struggling so much with yo-yo'ing eating habits.

First of all, my name is Jamie and I"m a 35 year old single mom with 2 gorgeous little boys, Ethan (5 yrs) and Zachary (3 yrs in August). I share custody with their father which I hate!!! My boyfriend and I live together and we are both struggling with weight issues. All my life I have been a very healthy weight wearing sizes topping out at 10/12 and weighing between 130-150lbs which I was comfortable with. I had energy, I used to do some modeling, and my self-esteem was never higher. After I had my oldest son I had PPD very badly, have been diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia, Dysthemia (mild depression), and Bipolar on the Anxiety spectrum and have been struggling with my weight. I was lucky enough to have lost most of the 52lbs I gained during my pregnancy with Ethan and was at my lowest weight at 160lbs. Then I moved in with his father, was depressed all the time because of emotional abuse and gained 32lbs. I got pregnant with my youngest son, Zachary and started off at my first appointment (early in the pregnancy due to complications and issues in my first pregnancy) weighing 192lbs....I was devastated...I topped out at 247lbs gaining 45lbs with Zachary. After that forget it...I have been between 200lbs and 230lbs....I am the lowest I have weighed since I had my youngest son....granted, I lost 4lbs in 9 days which is fantastic and that's all just watching what I ate and cut about 80% of my soda intake out of my diet.

Well, anyways..moving on..lol....I just recently lost my job which has been killing me and making me so depressed with finances and finding another job...I just can't stand sitting around the house and my motivation has diminished....I need to find someone here to help me work through all this...someone who can be an ear and if anyone lives in the Central PA area and are willing to take on a sparkbuddy that's a bit of an emotional wreck right now I would SOOOO love that!!!! Thanks all for reading this and I just needs some friends and buddies to talk to and give me that swift kick in the rear to get me motivated again so I can lose weight and just start enjoying life again!!!

:o) Jamie

Hi Robin, IT is nice to find people on here who share the same issues! I could really identify with you. I am a mom of 2 boys and also have a wonderful husband who has been with me thru my yo yo dieting and I never could find that connection with him on this subject as he has not gone thru it. I would enjoy going down this path with you if you would like. Best wishes and One day at a time!! emoticon

Hello,

I too feel as though I have never been a healthy weight all of my life. I was the only overweight kid of five and it seems as though most all of my life has been dieting or trying to deal with weight.

I eat for what seems like all ocassions: celebrations, boredom, disappoint etc. Its a way to deal, relax, reward myself, have a good time. Its also what causes alot of annoyances: I can't wear this or that, I feel uncomfortable etc.

It was only recently that I realized that I was an emotional eater, I just though "hey, I enjoy good food". So here I am trying to make a change and enjoy being in my twenties. It would be great to find a buddy because I feel as though with the SP resources I for the first time feel as though I can change this and lose the weight.

I am here to encourage and hopefully also find encouragement and a SP buddy.

Mini goals/ weight lose milestones:

195 - Play dress up at the mall
185 - Buy a new outfit
175 - Get a manicure or pedicure (or both)
165 - New hairdo
155 - Buy some sexy underwear
145 - Get a pair of super sexy shoes
135 - Get my first massage
125 - Night on the town!!

I'm still trying to learn my way around this amazing site, but I think this is the place for me to be. I have been trying to lose weight for what seems my whole life, I'm looking forward to this experience and hopefully can give encouragement as well as receive it.

Hello my name is Kathy and I would love to connect with you and be buddies online. You can contact me at cambriasangel@yahoo.com if you are interested??? I will be looking for your message. I too am an emotional eater who does it in private late at night when everyone else is sleeping. When I get ready to lie down at night and life just comes in on me I eat food is my best friend and my lover and whatever I need at the time.

Hi,
I am an emotional eater. I am a closet eater...I don't like eating around others. My challenge will be coming up later this week when my husband goes on a two day business trip and I will be here at the house ALONE with FOOD.
I am about 150 pounds overweight. I don't think I ever was at a healthy weight.
I have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren many states away.
We have lived here 5 years and I have not created a close friendship here.
I am on the computer every day and would love to have a buddy to email with encouragements.
What is the next step?
Sharon

Hello

I am Robin, a 43yo mother of two teenagers, and married to a wonderful husband. I am finding out that my eating issues are more emotional than I realized. I eat out of boredom, stress, and just to eat. I also have this constant urge to eat out all the time. I know these are habits I need to break to be successful at losing weight.

I am looking for a buddy to be able to share good and bad times with, and get off this roller coaster once and for all!

Robin

hey team! my name is irene, i am a 27 y/o mother of 2 beautiful girls. i struggle with emotional eating. i do good for a while, eating right, working out, but then life will happen, i will miss a work out or whatever and find comfort in food... i tend to binge and then drink herbal tea like senna... past couple days have been bad... i think i am using the food to cope with some problems at home, it seems easier than trying to deal with it sometimes... i should go for a run instead, but for me that's easier said than done!

but i joined this team to have an outlet, to get some help, find a buddy, and get out of using food as a coping mechanism!

Speaking of planning meals, I'm about to set off with my family up North to a cabin for a week. I need to go grocery shopping and could use some advice on what to get. I usually just think of my family and not myself and end up eating the same crap they eat. Besides some edamame and grilled chicken, what should I make?? Help!!!

Hi
Thanks for your messages, yesterday was a disater, i did not run to the cupboard exactly but i had a big upset and lost control and have no idea how many calories i ate. I was just so unorganised again. Had to have lunch on the run and i got so hungry, i was seriously craving and all reason went out of the window, so i just ate what ever was at hand, also did not eat dinner until nearly 8pm so i was very hungry again. I have resolved to do better today. I think planning my lunch in advance is essential for my success. Anyway i hope everyone who reads this has a successful day and would love to hear from anyone. Off to plan my lunch (at 9.40am lol)

Hello! I'm Lauren. I'm relatively new to SP. I am 23 years old, a mum of 1 little baby boy (8 months as of July).
I am in a very struggling relationship with his father, and this is the seed of my depression.

I'm looking for someone to talk to, who is quite talkative as well and willing to exchange e-mails through the day. I don't care, or watch what I eat, and that's a huge downfall for me. I feel very unmotivated to do anything.

My son is worth it though.. I need help.

Hi! I'm back after a few years off but chompin at the bit ready to start losing again!

I am a 41 yr old mother of 3 (16,13 & 4). Right now I'm a stay at home mom but am looking at going back to work (ecomony...what can you say?) Life has been throwing me some blows these past 3 yrs...which I have countered by eating my way through the fridge! I am determined to take my life back. LOL!

I would love to help support and be supported in my journey to lose the pounds. I'm really trying to stick with it this time around so if anyone is interested..just give me a hollar! LOL!

Thanks,
Lori

Hi
I am not new, but I am back after a long absence. I was successful my first go round and then I started to slack off and deviate from my program. I know that this will work for me if I am willing to put my all into it as I did before. I need to be careful as I tend to beat on myself and then I eat to punish myself. I want to be good to myself and be healthy. I want to be able to go out in public and not be ashamed of the way I look.I know I am my own worst enemy and critic. I need support and a good swift kick in the butt at times. Please help.

Nave a Blessed day.

HI Biobits, thank you for being so open. I'm also new here. I think we've come to the right place :-) I also use food to numb my emotions. I am working on this saying: "Eat to live don't live to eat!" How did you do today?
