I think time has stopped me from doing that. Now that I am 70 years old, my appetite is not what it used to be. (THANK GOODNESS). But I can still remember the days. Now I am trying to take off what I gained when I did have a larger appetite. Wish I knew then what I know now.

Yeah, you know, I am not sure what it is. I guess that if someone I know was around I wouldn't eat the amount that I eat. Sneaking food allows you to eat in private. I guess it's like the girl that goes out to dinner with the really cute guy, can't let them know you eat! But now it's anyone.

Also, I have been sneaking food since I was 7 or 8... that's 10 years, 11 years I have been doing this. For me it was a snowball effect, and almost, now that I think about it, an addiction.

I've done that too. I wonder why..if it's hidden and noone sees, is it like it didn't happen and we lose control or we just to ashamed to let anyone know what we did? We always know inside though. I still do these things today. I hate that side of me, yet I still do it.

I would wait till my family went to bed. Then I would binge on garbage food and hide the wrappers at the bottom of the garbage. I don't know why, I usually ate way past being hungry. Since joining SP I have not done that once. If I get the urge, I come here or go to bed.

of course you are not alone . You have a whole group of people who are like you and hide . they hide all kinds of stuff . the bills food their bad habits . it is time to open the window and let in the light . light will help show you the way . tell talk . you cant hide stuff if you talk about it . show what you are doing and it will no longer be a dark hidden secret . everything you do even in secret is known . you can not hide facts . they come out at the worst times . stop running from your self and face the music. you will find ways to cope . find the reasons you think food eaten in the secret is better . like that old joke when someone says i lost five pounds . the next person behind them says i found them . even if you think it is hidden it really isn't someone knows what you are doing . you can not hide from yourself . talk to us we know your pain . we hide in the dark also . but are trying to shine a light upon our habits . join us lets talk . emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It has to start with you. I used to have that problem but I decided that being thin was more important. I keep a snack in the car so I eat it on the way home so I am not tempted to stop and buu food.

I sure can relate to all of you on this one. I will usually go through Tim Horton's drive thru and get the 40 pack tim bits and eat them while I run arrends then stop where there is a garbage can and through out the box so nobody knows. Or I will go shopping and buy the small pies (not one but 2 or more) eat as many as I can on my way home, if there are any left I will act as if that was all I bought.

I've done everything all of you do..all the sneaking. I have even gone to Walmart bought 3 candy bars at once and then go to the car and eat all three before I leave the parking lot or on the way home and get rid of the wrappers so noone will know. And then the guilt sets in. Oh man, why is it when you are eating or binge eating your body is so like at full speed and something about that chocolate of whatever it is, after you've had it, your body just seems to calm down and you can breathe again and think normally? Why is that or am I the only one who feels that way. Of course like I said then the guilt sets in.

These are all great ideas. I think the next time I will be on the road is Thursday. I have to prepare myself for this. I did not realize this could be such an easy habit to get into.

Oh, sorry, I am new and thought it would reply to the person, no matter

I would also try to justify it as a party thing or something I needed to bring to work or whatever, but it would be finished the next day. Sickening quite frankly.

What will be the hardest is going straight to work and going straight home, and not getting anything from the Dollar Store before going into work. That is just going to be something that I have to push through.

I also find that having my teeth brushed helps too. It makes the food taste weird, plus I just kind of don't want to ruin the nice teeth, plus, your teeth get healthy.

Thanks for the support and good luck!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!!!!

I have done that too; where I go to work, but I don't carry my purse with me so I don't have any money and thus can't buy anything. I can't imagine how much money and how much weight I have gained from this... I am talking lots of food, footlongs with two bags of chips, two full sized bags of chips within a day or two, and fast food. Ugh.

Stopping is going to be hard. It costs a lot of money... perhaps every couple of weeks you go without doing it, buy yourself an ice cream. Dairy Queen soft serve has no fat. No to mistake it as healthy, but its not bad. That way, you get your ice cream, but you are doing it "the legit way." If you say you can't have something, you want it more. So... that's my suggestion on that. Just tell yourself that you can't do it anymore, that you're ready for the next step, that you don't want to gain the weight and what not.

Good luck, and I hope that you get over the ice cream issue. I am worse than you it sounds like... but I hope they we can both overcome those things.

I was doing that too. I'd eat a candy bar on the way home from the store and maybe leave one in the car for the next time I was out. I haven't done this in a while. I just left right after I ate or I take a healthy snack with me. Oh and my water. I took two bottles today and drank both of them!

I do this, too. For me, it has been a process of stopping, not a one-time event where I simply decided to do it. It's not easy.

I have bought lots of candy and acted like it was for a party or something like that. Or sometimes, frankly, I didn't care what anyone thought.

I find that I'm prone to do it in the car -- and the truth is in the trash -- all those colorful wrappers.

Some things I do to avoid this:

* Be sure I travel with a healthy snack that will distract me -- something crunchy, maybe!
* Be sure I'm tanked up on my protein so I don't get crazy "low-blood sugar" munchies.
* Understand that even when my blood sugar is fine, I am still prone to this habit. So I do other things to avoid the problem:
* Be sure I have sugarless gum in the car.
* Listen to the radio or CDs and sing along. Hard to eat when you're singing!

Good luck. You are not alone. Many of us struggle with this. I think you are on the right track to even name that this is a habit you have.

Kathleen

OH MY GOSH!!! I thought I was the only one who did that. My habit is to stop and get ice cream when I am on my way somewhere and hide the evidence in the trash before anyone gets home. I have gained a lot of weight like this too!!

I travel a lot for work and that makes this very easy to do. Do you have any suggestions? I have to force myself not to carry money or credit cards with me so I cannot stop anywhere.

oh yeah

i think it's a natural part of emotional eating

that also includes buying quantities of food, pretending it's for more than 1, but, it's really just for you

hiding the binge foods under healthier foods in the cart

lots of "secret" eating in all of this!

i'd probably be about 100 lbs if i only ate what i eat in "public"!

I have actually created a group, but I know they are hard to find.

I personally have a huge problem with sneak eating. Buying food and hiding it under my bed in the closet, buying subway and taco bell and bringing it home after work or something, getting fast food on the way to somewhere, eating what I can when no one is looking. I have gained soo much weight from this. I think that by stopping alone I could lose weight. But I am really now trying to stop myself from doing this. I need motivation, but was also wondering if there is anyone else out there like me??? Any advice from anyone?? Thank you~
