Hi. Making the decision to be more active was a good thing you did for yourself. YAY YOU! I have been in situations like you described and am also an emotional eater. I have good days and bad days. It's hard for me when faced with hateful comments or harsh words. I have learned to kind of reteach people how to treat me. I will ask a question when faced with that kind of negativity that involves asking them to clarify what it is they are upset about or if they said it to hurt me on purpose. Then, the ball is back in their court and they have to decide to tone it down, stop, or continue as they were. Usually, it only takes a couple of times for the conversation to stop or for them to say what they are really feeling in a productive way. It's difficult, but it worked for me. I'm sorry for the stress you feel. I can relate.

Welcome! This is a great group for support. I don't know who is making the hurtful remarks and what your relationship might be with them, but is there a way for you to limit contact? Also, if anybody is unintentionally hurting you with comments, tell them how it makes you feel when they say things like that. Maybe they will stop. Then you can focus on coping mechanisms for the comments you can't control. All the best to you.

I haven't really thought about any certain strengths. I'll have to think on that. I'm pretty strong physically. I consider that one of my strengths. I've had surgery on both my knees, one in April 2018 the other in November 2018, so I've lost some strength but I'll get that back, except I don't think my legs will ever be as strong as they were because of the arthritis. I like lifting heavy weights. I'm good at it. I know exactly what to do to lose weight, I know what to eat and how to eat...I just...I let my emotions get in the way.

Hi. I'm new to this team. I have been on sparkpeople a couple of years, but not very active. I had surgery a few months ago and after losing 30+ pounds I gained it all back. Being out of work and limited movement I just went to food. I've been paying more attention to the way I feel and oh boy am I an emotional eater. I get so tired of hearing hateful, rude and judgemental comments. It doesn't help. It just puts me right back to food because food is none of those things. It's pleasing and doesn't bash me or make those awful comments. I need support and want to support others, so here I am.
