Hi, my name is Sibille and joined SP in January and had a total left knee replacement in February and getting back in shape. I have lost 25 lbs so far and have been able to move better than before my surgery. emoticon

Hi Everyone!
I'm Sarah and I just joined SP last week. I was looking through the teams, and I'm really excited about this one. I would like to eventually be fit enough to do a bi-athalon and I think that this is a great start to that. This time next year I hope to be entering in my first marathon. I never would have thought that a marathon would be a goal for me, but now it is and I couldn't be more excited :)

Hello everyone. I just joined this site yesterday and I think I will really enjoy it~! Doing a 5k in October and hoping to train for the 3 day Komen walk in 2014! I will need the extra time to get the weight i have down so I wont die! Last year, I did no training and did a 5k for breast cancer awareness. Needed a nap when I got home~! Hoping this year I can skip my nap time!

I have a goal of participating in a 5K, and I think this is a great place to start. I exercise everyday and have walked for up to 60 minutes at a time in the last month. I'm looking forward to working up to walking the 3.1 miles and eventually becoming fit enough that I can run without fear of injury due to the weight I am carrying. I tried running for short intervals on my treadmill a number of months ago, and I injured my knee. My body is definitely not ready for high impact activities, but there is plenty I can do in the meantime.

I got off on the wrong foot and didn't get started on the correct day.

Anyway, I left and rejoined so I can started. My start day I hope will be May 6. If I'm wrong, I hope someone will let me know ASAP.

I'm from Kansas, about the middle of the USA. I love walking but had an accident on April 2 where I fell off my back porch steps and slammed my bad hip into a tree. So I've been doing physical therapy exercises and trying to get back in shape for walking which I love to do up to 1-2 miles per day. Next goal is to walk the 5K again (I did think as part of another team back in March). I want to accomplish again.

Hi, I'm Brandy. I joined this challenge to eventually build up and do the walk/jog 5k and then the walk/run 5k to be able to run the Race for the Cure 5k in Arkansas in October.

Hi, I'm Juanita from the middle of Kansas.

Last month I walked a 5K walk as part of a challenge on the BLC18 team as a newbie. I was not able to get the walk done on the due date due to experiencing diarrhea on my walk 2 days in a row (extremely embarrassing); however, I refused to let that stop me from making the walk. I completed the walk in 90 minutes on another day. I know, nothing to boast about time wise except for a person who could walk no further than 1 block w/o resting when I took up walking in 2010, this is a HUGE accomplishment for me! It felt so good to walk 3.7 miles total.

So when I stumbled across this team I decided to give it a try along with my BLC19 team. I took a bad fall and slammed my bad hip into a tree in our back yard on April 2 and have had what seems like a long row to hoe toward returning to "normal" for me. I have come a long way and am quite anxious to return to walking. I love to interval walk as it challenges me to deep breath and walk really fast for a very short time followed by medium fast in the interval. The first time I tried that I thought I was NOT going to be able get back home, but I did. the second time was so much easier. Then I took my spill and haven't gotten to feeling like returning to that system as yet.

I'm going to try this method outlined here. If I cannot get up to the goals set out here due to re-injuring my bad hip, I will just keep trying until I do get there. I truly don't know what to expect of my capabilities as yet returning to walking. I was just released last week by my doctor to start doing physical therapy exercises and they do seem to be coming along okay.

Hi!

I'm Deb and while I am not new to SparkPeople, I am new to this team. LOL!

I am still recovering from heart and knee surgery so it will be some time before I can get back to my regular exercise regimen. Once I get the "all clear" I hope to be able to go back to my regular exercise regimen. I did walk a 5k once about 6 years ago while I was still living in Indiana. Of course, it nearly killed me but I still did it and I still remember that fabulous feeling I had when I had finished it!

I currently live in Daytona Beach with my youngest child and a Cocker Spaniel named Casper and a Cat named Louis. Needless to say, things can get pretty hectic around here!

Hi Everyone, my name is Laurie and my username has been my goal for the past year. I have been very successful in some areas - I no longer drink pop or juice. Instead replacing those with Alkaline water (RedLeaf is the BEST!) and Green to (Just discovered Red Buscht Tea wich is even better for the body then green tea!!). This coming year is about letting go of my sugar dependance and to start a walking program. I stumbled on to this group and I am excited to get started. I am very limited in the area of exercise due to injuries sustained in a car accident almost 6 years ago but I have come to realize that moving, even if ever so slowly is better for my body and spirit then remaining still. I look forward to getting to know people in this group. Have a brilliant day!

Hello all! I am Sara and going to give this a try. I used to be a very competitive racewalker, but then many health challenges happened over the past three years that left me bedridden at one point. I now feel ready to join the exercising world and want to conquer my fear of exercising.(I really have feared it will make me very sick again if I push my body too hard, but I do have the doc's a-ok to exercise, the fear is only in my mind.)

Hello everyone - I'm new here. I'm looking for some new/fun things to try to help me lose some weight. I'll mainly be on my treadmill so hopefully I can make friends with it before too long.

I just joined this team. I currently do three days of cardio at the gym, one night of strength training. I thought by joining this team it would keep me motivated by walking on those days I'm not at the gym.

Hi, I have been walking at least three times a week for the last few weeks. I had the goal that by the end of summer I would be able to walk around the "big block", it is so pretty following the river however it is just over 3 miles. This plan will make my goal happen.

I'm totally on board with this program. I just started using MapMyWalk as a visual tool to track my walks. This program will give me the community support to go with it. Can't wait to start tomorrow (only because it wouldn't be smart to head out now at 10:30 pm!)

Hello all! I just joined and look forward to working towards the 5K walking. From there I want to progress to the next program leading up to a jog. My challenge is my foot bothers me sometimes, but I noticed when I walk on a track vs. just outside on concrete, my foot doesn't bother me as much. Yay!

Hi there, I'm the mother of 3 , live in Ontario,Canada on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula and I've joined so that I can enter the 10 k Cops for Cancer run/walk in June. I did a 10 km walk once for a fundraiser for kids group but that was many years ago and many pounds ago too.

Hi so I used to walk all the time, I used to love hiking, then I put on some weight, and it started to be difficult to enjoy walking... I want to be able to have nice brisks walks again, I want to be able to hike with my kids when they will be a bit older. I am determined to try to run, which I never did, and I figured that I should take baby steps and start with nice long walk to pump my cardio...
My name is Cecile and I am 33 years old, mother of 2 young daughters(3 years old and 7 months old) living in Canada where walking is not always an easy thing! (giant snowbanks, -40C, ice pellets, etc!)

I love walking and hiking but obligations the past several months have eaten away at my spare time to do so. Way too much time working at the computer. I miss that wonderful feeling of health and strength and want to get it back!
A happy goal is my daughter's wedding mid-October 2012.

Hi everyone. My name is Margret. I know I can walk a 5K but I'm soo sore afterwards, I decided to go back to basics. My 40th birthday is in July and I want to be more healthy and more fit. I'm a heavyset person so I feel the low impact activities would be best. I look forward to completing this training with all of you. and I hope to see you at one of the virtual races later on. GOOD LUCK to all the others that joined this group.

Hi my name is Paskalini. Today I started my walk a 5k plan. I am starting out slow but I did the math and if I continue and keep up with all the programs consecutively I should be able to jog/run 5k by mid to late august. So this is a new goal I have set for myself. :)

Hey! I'm Lisa. I picked up running over the summer before my asthma got the best of me (anything more than 4 minutes was too much) and tried getting back on top of things but after spending a weekend in the hospital due to an asthma attack back in October, I pretty much stopped excercising completely, so I lost all progress made back in June-October. I'm here because I want to eventually run 5ks, but I'm playing it safe and starting super slow to try and re-train my body to trust my lungs.

Hi all my name is Sam (short for Samantha). I am starting the 5K walking program, as a step to get my to the 5K running prgram. I don't enjoy running, but I want to change my mental attitude about that. I want to run a 10K next year with a group of freiends from church. I need to this also to feel better, I am sore and tired so much of the time that I allow that to take over my life. Well no more! Our church is also doing the American Cancer Society's Walk for the Cure this summer and I want to be able to participate.

Hello all! My name is lacie :) i have been doing well on this exciting new change. My diet is going well and i am enjoying exercise. I usually dont hit the tredmil, mainly just the eliptical. So i want to challenge myself with this 5k walk. I think it will help me prepare for my actual 5k walk in may. I am walking a great strides walk for Cystic Fibrosis. Trying to make CF stand for Cure Found! I am happy to support all team members because everyones goal is very inportant and it is the best feeling when you can accomplish it.

If anyone wants to support my walk in may, i am walking for a close friend, donations (even small) are welcome! Thank you. Good luck all! http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/Lacefacex

Hi everyone, I'm Maddy and I'm going to begin training to talk a 5K starting tomorrow. I have walked many 5k's but I'm just going to train because I haven't really worked out much during these winter months. I just need to get back on track. I do plan on walking a 5k in June and in May so I need to be ready. After I feel comfortable walking, I'm going to try to start running in order to complete my first 5k trial run. Because I have walked a lot of 5k's, I would be happy to give anyone advice so if you would like to train with me as a workout buddy, don't hesitate to message me :)

Hi! emoticon

I'm Michelle & I live in the beautiful Fraser Valley of southwestern BC, Canada. I've been an SP member for over 2 years now, this time. I was previously a member a few years earlier, but I'd left. I rejoined February 2010, & I just recently returned from a break. It was good for me to take a break, but now I've returned.

I need to get back in shape, & I know that walking's one of the best ways to do that. This is a great plan because it gets a person walking right away without putting the pressure on to walk every day. It's also good for me because I work nights & this'll fit into my limited daytime hours. I can walk when I get home from work. This'll help me sleep well also, something I've been struggling with the last several months.

I'm glad to be here, & I'm glad there's a team to support those of us in this.

Blessings,
Michelle :)

Hi! I'm Carole and I have been with Sparks for quite some time. I have made good progress - with a few hiccups along the way - but have learned a lot since joining. My weakness at the moment is lack of exercise, so I thought that joining this team would enable me to build up my stamina and help me shape up. I love walking so this seems just the team for me.

Hi! My name is Pat & I've never been a "regimented" walker. I am the captain of a Relay for Life team this spring (18 hours of walking around a track where at least 1 team member must be walking at all times) and thought this would be a good training ground for that challenge. As captain, I want to be able to walk anytime there aren't other team members available/able to do so. I want to set a good example for my teammates and fulfill our commitment. If anyone has participated in something similar and has any tips, I'd really appreciate them!

Hi!! My name is Beth and I am just coming back after being away for over a year. I had surgery and life problems. But I am turning 50 this year and I want to lose 100 pounds and run in a 5K in November. I sit for 8 hours a day so I love to walk when I get off work. I found that it is a huge
stress reliever and energy booster. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do it in a long time, so I have to start all over. And I have never been in a run before, so I thought if I am going to do it, go all out!!

Hi my name is Sarah and I am rejoining the challenge today. I joined a month ago with big plans but am realizing the holiday season probably wasn't the best time to start. I am looking forward to this challenge. I love walking and hiking and I feel like this can give me a jump start back into that habit!

Re-starting this challenge 23/1/12 after a week missed completely because I was on holiday.

Greetngs, all. I have started this a few times, I think. I keep giving up because I get caught up in getting needs taken care of as soon as I get home from a stressful day at work. By the time I am able to do it I am too exhausted.

Hi, my name is Christine. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska.
I've rejoined this group today. Never quite made it through before, but I am determined! I have a friend in Anchorage who runs a lot of races (she's done a triathlon too!), and she has inspired me to start moving. I'm hoping that this summer we can run a race together.

If you can’t be a good example, then you’ll just have to be a horrible warning.

Hi emoticon
My name is Jessica and I'm 22.
I figured this challenge will help me prepare for a walk/hike my husband and I will be doing later on when it warms up - the 'Waterford River Walk' it's 6.2K I'm told it has a lot of steep hills and a real workout!
Anyone looking for a buddy send me a message and add me as a friend :)
