Hi there everyone,

I'm so excited to part of this team. I just started with walking my 15 minutes and I couldn't feel better emoticon . I wanted to join a team so I can get healthy and fit. I'm a Diabetic and very overweight. I know the weight loss journey will take time and at times be frustrating, but in the long run will be worth it emoticon

Bye for now.

HI! I was signed up for the 5k walk/jog but post knee injury got me down the very first day's workout emoticon . As I told them though, it is more important to be faithful. To get back on a goal I can benifit from is crucial so I am UP for it!!! emoticon . Since I am 50's something, time is of the essence. Blessings to you all!

Hi I am new to the group. I decided to join the walking program because I am really out of shape and like the idea of walking a 5K, I never realized there was such a thing as walking a 5K.

I am not a runner but I have been know to power walk.Marathons may be out for me. But I can keep on walking. emoticon

Hello! I am excited to join this program. I have completed two marathons. 10 years ago I did the Honolulu Marathon to benefit the Leukemia Society. In January of this year I completed the Walt Disney World Marathon to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. My next marathon is in June 2012 in Kona Hawaii to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

I was amazed of my progress in January from 10 years ago for many reasons. I am now married, a mother, a business owner and 10 YEARS OLDER! emoticon

What it proved to me, is anything is possible if we have set our mind to it and have a plan. Life isn't always easy but a healty lifestyle is important to me.

Hello everyone! My name is Nina and I'm from West Virginia. I'm 26 years old and am trying to train for the Mother's Day walk this summer through a local Pro Life group. I have feet problems so I figured in order to defeat a disability I would slowly work myself into it and eventually I would love to run.

I've never done any kind of walk. Age 58 is as good a time to start as any emoticon Walked with my friend today. Two miles around a lake in 38 minutes. What fun! The wind was blowing 25 to 30 mph. We decided God was helping us to get our exercise. As we walked east the wind blew from the east. (East/West is the longest part of the trek) As we walked west, the wind blew from the west. Almost the whole time we walked into the wind.
Really enjoyed it and I SO look forward to my first 5K. Happy walking everyone~

Hi my name is Heather and I have joined the team because I have a charity walk coming up (several actually) which I am using as a motivator for me. If I commit to an event I will not give up before it is done. This program which is very similar to the program I have printed from another source are very similar and I know I can pull this off. Keeping me accountable is the key to me staying motivated and starting my healthy life.

Hi from Jusfolk! I'm from the coast of MS, am in my 60s, and want to still be active in my 90s, so I'm working at keeping my weight down and building my endurance up! I walk regularly and thought when I was moving along briskly that I probably did a 20-minute mile, but this a.m., with a few interval bursts on the two-mile route I mapped, I did the distance in 37 minutes!

friend of mine decided to motivate himself by sign up for a 5K some months out. he was overweight and out of shape and thought he would reach that goal if he actually set it in concrete. He did it, finished the race. by race time he hadn't reached a goal weight, but had worked out and trained to finish that race. He is now doing the big marathons, and has become very phsically fit, although not a big weight loss. I just thought it was inspiring.

Hi, I'm Shelly in NW Ohio. I thought this would be a good way to add motivation to my treadmill exercise at the gym and walking to work (once it stops snowing around here). emoticon

For now I'm going to stick with the Virtual 5K, but there is a possible 10K in September I might register for depending on how my weight is going at that point.

hello to all. I'm really quite a walker and will easily do 5 - 7 miles a day in decent weather so i hope to complete this challenge without too much fanfare. Off to the gym to walk tonight, expecting monsoon like rains tomorrow, will be wearing the pedometer from now on.

Hello all. I am in day four of my five week program. I am LOVING IT! I timed myself at a very comfortable 20 minute mile day one. Than I pushed myself yesterday and got that down to an 18.5 minute mile! I'm using this program to help build my endurance. Once I finished this program I plan on moving up to the walk/jog program. By the end of the summer my goal is a 14-15 minute mile in which I am comfortable.
I never thought of myself as a "runner," and I never think I will be, but I am enjoying the program and having a goal!

Hi everyone, My name is Janet and I'm from Knoxville, TN. I just switched to this team today. I was trying to do the walk/run 5K but after my first week of training I have swollen knees and shin pain. My doctor had told me to forget about running but I thought I knew more then him I guess and wanted to try the walk/run. OK not such a smart thing to do so I am going to stick with the walking. I use my elliptical almost every day and was told to just stick with it. I already know that I can walk a 5K, I did one on my treadmill last month. I am also going to do the Pace Walk this week so I am just going to work on getting a better time.

Hi everyone! My name is Candy and I live in North Florida. I'm 57, married w/two grown daughters and a wonderful 6 yr old grandson who lives with us.

I am not an exercise person so this will be a real step of faith for me. Been on Spark since 2006 and I've been up and down but throughout it all I haven't exercised. My DH and I just got a new treadmill and an elliptical and I'm so ready. I know this (exercise) has been the missing link to my success and am looking forward to practicing my 5K walk April 10-16.

Hi, I'm Dee and I live in San Diego Ca. I signed up for this race last week but forgot to post my intro until now. I'm 64, I'm Mom to a son who runs marathons and grandmom to three tweens. I've been walking a lot since the first of the year and just caught the racing bug I guess; this one sounded like fun anyway. So I signed up.

Hi, my name is Leslie and I live in Michigan. I joined a few weeks ago and then life threw me some curveballs and I never got started. SOOOO, I reset myself and I am starting today. I want to do this. I have a 5K I want to walk in next month, and then one I want to do in May. I walked one last May and thought it would kill me, which is when I realized I had to find something to get healthier. That's when I found Sparkpeople. What a Godsend it has been for me. Now I am hoping this program will help me even more. Looking to support each other and make this happen!!

Hello all, my name is Ute. I have been a Spark member and pretty active at times for several years. With my physically very demanding job (kennel worker at a big veterinary clinic) I have been very sporadic in my exercise thinking that the miles I walk at work and the heavy work would keep me in shape..... not true, lol. So I am looking to add walking, strength exercise and yoga to my weekly routine to get back into healthier habits. The 5K seems a fantastic way to get back to that without feeling overwhelmed. Good luck to all of you!!!!

Hello, I'm Donna, 68yrs old. I joined this group to give myself something to work toward. I live in Manitoba, Canada and I'm hoping that some of the snow will be gone so I can walk in my joggers. Right now I am walking in winter hiking boots and winter clothes as it is cold and snowy here. I'm thinking if I can wear my joggers for this walk, I will be flying as I will feel so light. emoticon

Hi - I'm Barb and have been training for a Half Marathon (walking) on May 14 as a fund raiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is pushing my physical limits and a challenge for me because I have an artificial hip and arthritis in my knees and elsewhere, but it is such a worthy goal and is providing a tremendous motivation for me to get out there regularly. I signed up for the Virtual 10k here and glad to see all the support and enthusiasm! We can do this, one step at a time!!!

My name is Dani. I'm a wife and mum of four kids. I've been a member of Sparkpeople for 4.5 years but I haven't been using it consistently. I've been walking since last summer but lately it has trickled down to only once or twice a week.

I joined this challenge (did Day 1 today) to make myself walk more often. I'm attracted to programs that someone else has come up with, especially if they have an online component, so I can have a goal to work toward and a button to click :-). Seriously, though, I want to build my stamina for all the walking my husband likes to do on vacation.

Hi, I've just received word from my dr that I can now go back to walking and exercising as long as I start slow and ease back into it! So I joined this walk for the April 10-16th race!

Hi, my name is Bobbi, I am 51 years old. I have been with Spark people since May of 2009, I lost 47# to begin with then regained 15#. I joined BLC and lost 7# I have battled with SAD and have been at a plateau for quite some time. Walking was a big part of my initial weight loss so I'm ready to get started.

I am a member of the Pink Vikings BLC team and we are having a virtual pink 5k walk/run race March 20-26.

My name is Cathy I am a 55 year old grandmother of 5, the oldest is 19 this month. I am here to see how far I can get I actually have been walking more than the 5k every day since August 2010 until Christmas when I got a wii and wii fit plus, so now I have more options to switch up my exercise. I am excited to see just how far I can go and I am thinking that perhaps I should have signed up for the running program but I have not done any running since I broke my back more than 20 years ago. So I decided I would do all I can to improve that!!
Love to you all and the very best wishes!! emoticon

Lynn,
the best way to ruin a great job is to not take your breaks and get burned out. You are in a very creative field but you aren't allowing time for your mind and body to refocus and re-energize. I have been where you are and it broke my health, physically and mentally. It has taken years, but I am back to taking care of myself. Good luck and God bless.

if you are lucky enough to be at the beach, you are lucky enough!

My name is Lynn & I am from Washington State. Hubby & I are empty-nesters & have a 25 year old son. I have been on Sparks faithfully since April 2006. I have great Spark friends, lots of support, share tips & get good advice here. But I need to do something for me.

I have an 8 hour a day sit down job in advertising (in front of a computer all day long). Then I come home & want to read emails & spark so more time online. I need to start taking breaks & lunches. Get exercise - fresh air - clear my head during the day.

I started up by signing up for the 5K Running but realistically needed to start with Walking a 5K & move forward from there.

Right now I am using WATPs, Biggest Loser Power Walking, and Zumba - along with Abs of steel, Turbo Jam & a few others. I switch around a lot. I am a 6am workout person & spark every morning at that time.

I am Excited to actually ACCOMPLISH something this time.
Success to Everyone who is doing this. Here is to Day #1
