Hi Everyone,
My name is Dian. I will be 37 in a couple of weeks. I'm married to a wonderfully supportive husband and I'm a mother of two wonderful children, boy and girl. My girl was just born in June. I had a sickly pregnancy and I am all fired up to get back into shape after feeling bad for so long.

I look forward to the day when I can actually run for a mile. I've never been able to do that, not even in high school.

Today is day 1. I thought it was going to be real easy but running for a straight minute is kinda hard but I got through it. I sure hope that my endurance will allow me to run for 2 minutes straight next week. Im hoping I will be able to run the 5k by halloween. That is my short term goal for now. Glad I found this support group!

Hi all! I'm Angie & have never really like running, but I'd really like to start doing so for charity (I'm sure I wouldn't mind the weight loss either. lol). I've started this program a few times & never seen it through, but at least I keep trying! I'm starting up again today after work.

My name is Kelly and I live in Connecticut. I have lived there all my life. I am a mother of 3 beautiful children, ages 16 and twin 8 year olds, and have been happily married to the same man for 19 years. I am going to try to run a 5K. For my friends that know me, they will think I am crazy. I just started working on my weight and I have lost 8 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I bought "The Spark" and read it when I am not working on my classes to finish my degree. I try to go to the gym at least 3 times a week, if not more and have my pal, Kristin running with me. We start day 1 today. I am excited and a bit scared, fearing I may not be able to do this, but I am going to try my best to get through each week.

Hi! I hate running. But I'm doing this. I just did day 1 of week 2, and it hasn't been terrible.
I'm signed up for a 5k in November, and I'm pretty excited.

Hi everyone!
I've never been much of a runner but lately I've been really interested in training myself to run. I've been going on daily walks for the last couple of weeks so I figured it would be a good time to begin a running program. Hoping to get lots of good tips and encouragement from the team! I haven't yet found a 5k I want to do but there are tons of them in Southern California, I know that won't be a problem. Good luck to you all!

Hello Team,
I ran for a little bit during highschool and I loved the way how it toned and scupted my body. Sadly I didn't stay on the track team, and during college I didn't really worry about diet or exercise. Now....I am 26, about 25-30 pounds overweight and not good at exercising regularly. Soooo....I'm doing sparkpeople, and decided to train for the 5K. I'm training every other day, and doing just a little bit of calorie burning on the down days.

Hi Everyone!!! I have always thought about starting a running program. Watched people running and thought it was so motivating. I have lost 50 pounds on my journey so far and am now under 200 pounds for the first time in four years, yay!!! I am ready to start tackling new goals. I want to do a 5k by my 30th birthday at the end of November. I am ready to challenge myself and accomplish this goal!!

I was a runner in the military (not by choice!) but feel like returning to running is a real goal of mine. I have had several back surgeries and suffer nerve pain/damage in one leg. I have spent the last 6 months strengthening my core and faithfully doing yoga to get back in shape. My physician and husband stand behind me in this journey, but I needed a larger network to keep myself motivated and challenged.

Although I am able to keep myself faithful to exercise (as it decreases pain significantly), what I eat has been my real struggle. So here I am....ready to put this all together and start making better choices for my health today and in the future. In 7 weeks I will run my first race since my injury in 2006!! I am SO ready for this!

Hello All! I'm Crystal. I've never been a runner and I'm a former smoker so I was a little hesitant about doing this but it's so easy to get started! I decided that I am going to take this training so that I can actually race next year in the Race for the Cure in Tucson rather than walk it. emoticon I am looking forward to being able to get tips, tricks and stay motivated with people having similar goals.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi Everyone! My name is Sandy and I decided that I wanted to do something fabulous for my 50th birthday. I always wanted to run a 5k, or 10k (or more) but didn't know how to start. This is a perfect fit since I will be turning 50 the week before the 5K challenge. I am looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you. I completed day 1 of week one yesterday and feel great.

Hello! I just joined Sparkpeople, and since exercise was always my weakness with prior weight loss attempts, I decided I would start with that. To get a good start and give myself some accountability, I signed up for October's Virtual 5K and hope to run at least a portion of it, which brings me here. This morning, I got out of bed early and went out for the first day of week one. Goodness, I am out of shape - just the one-minute runs kicked my tail - but I plan to do it again tomorrow morning, so hopefully persistence will build up that endurance. Someday, I want to do a real 5K (or dare I say it, a 10 or 15K!), and cardio walking was always the one exercise I could make myself do, so I hope to be running in no time!

My name is Sandra - I've been walking off and on for years, this is my first time to really train to run a 5K. I've always wanted to run! I'm almost 45, so I figured now's as good a time as any to do it! I just finished my 2nd day, 5 minutes ago.

Hi I'm Renee. This will be my first virtual 5K race. I set a goal to run the Pittsburgh Color Me Rad race next year (2013) so I thought this would be a great way work up to that point. This race I'm jogging/walking & I'm using the Rookie Plan. I'm doing really well on my training plan so far. It's been a long time since I was able to jog/run so it feels great to be able to again-even if it's only for short amounts of time still. Good luck everyone! emoticon

Hello! Im Tara. I am married and have two girls. Krissy is 3 and Amelia will be two next month. I love to strength train, but my cardio is severely lacking so I signed up for the Trick or Treat Trot and then this program. I'm so excited- it seems like something I can actually do. I walk regularly already so this seems like a natural progression!

Starting over - again. I am a 44 year old, recently divorced mother of 5 (maniac mom "to" 5). I have lost 25 lbs in the last 5 months and have 80 more to go to reach my goal weight.

I just signed up for the virtual fall 5k which will be completed when I run my 1st 5k obstacle/mud race on October 27th. (thanks to a challenge from a crazy friend)

I've gotten to week 5 of this plan before and got sidetracked when the kids started school.
Now that they're on track with that, I'm getting back on track with my health.

I'm hoping that I haven't lost all the progress I made before and will move through the program faster than scheduled if I can.

Looking forward to seeing all the progress everyone is making!

Hello! I'm progressing from the 5k walking program, and want to push myself a little more than just walking. I wouldn't call myself a natural runner! I am hoping that through this program I can avoid injury, as well as strive for consistency and gain a sense of confidence and accomplishment at the end of 8 weeks. I'm planning to join my friend in a 5k in early November, so this is my starting point! Cheers! emoticon

Hi! I'm a married mom of one daughter living with multiple special needs. I need to get fit to better care for her now and in the future so I signed up for Trick or Treat Trot. I have walked several 5Ks sporadically in the past, but wanted to take it up a notch this time! I've never enjoyed jogging or running, but I'm always a go big or go home type so I dove into it and quit fast because it was too much/hard for me. I'm hoping this rookie running program training will help me gradually learn how to jog/run right! Who knows maybe I'll learn to love running!

Hi, all. I signed up for the Trick or Treat Trot and thought this was a great addition. I am 63 and so this is a considerable challenge for me. But, I will follow the guidelines and just take it one step at a time. I appreciate SP so much and all the site offers. Here's to taking the next step forward and encouraging each other all along the way.

Hi everyone! Well I did it! I signed up for the Trick or Treat Trot 5k!! I'm kind of nervous because a year ago I did the C25K program and ran my 1st 5k with my husband. We were both so proud of ourselves and how far we'd come. One would think that once you've gone through the training and could run the 5k, you'd always be able to do it. But unfortunately I didn't keep up with it like I should've. The training is challenging, even though it looks like it would be easy. But I can do it and it WILL be worth it! So here's to starting over! Good luck everyone!

I just signed up for the Trick or Treat Trot 5K today and the training program, so here I am. I have only walked a 5K and 8K before so decided I wanted to try to run or walk/run a 5K. This is great that SP has a training program for the virtual 5K!

I've been a member of SP since 2007 but have just recently returned after being AWOL for quite some time. It's great to be back and I'm hoping this training program will help me be more consistent about my fitness program.

Hello!

I just signed up for this training program, because I decided to sign up for the Trick or Treat Trot.

I'm still trying to figure out why I did that, because I'm not a runner. I guess maybe I will be in 8 weeks?

Hi, I'm Pam and at the ripe old age of 65 I am making an effort to get fit and healthy. One of my goals is to really make exercise part of my life - it was about as far from it as you can get. I'm doing pretty well, with almost 2000 fitness minutes last month and a goal of 2500 this month. Sometimes, when I'm walking, I will imagine myself running. I kept thinking that I would need to loose more weight, be "lighter", to make it work. When I saw the October 5K, I decided to give it a try - all I have to loose is weight!

Hello everyone! I'm Debbie. I'm 49 years old and trying to lose a total of 35 pounds. I joined SparkPeople in July and have lost 11 pounds so far. I was so excited to see the virtual 5k. I have been looking for an actual 5k in my area to no avail. I have been using the PodRunner program for a couple of weeks and really like it. I think the Rookie Running Program is really similar so I can incorporate my MP3 program with this.

My goal is to run in the Color Run next year on my 50th birthday with my marathon runner daughter. Not looking to break any land speed records, just want to say I did it! And to be 35 pounds thinner! emoticon

Hi my name is Priscilla. I am 23. I am on week 2. I love to run. I have always been good at running, but its so hard to do 3 miles so I hope that this program helps me finish a 3 mile run without feeling like I am going to die or manage to further injure myself. I have a leg problem so stopped running but I am ready to be more. This is the first step to more miles to come. The goal is to improve my running skills and participate in a race.

Hello everyone! I am joining this program because I would like to become a runner for the first time in my life. At age 15, I set a goal to be able to run a mile, but was never able to...until last week! I was a super skinny teenager, and stayed thin until about age 25, but I was never in shape. A few months ago, I began exercising almost every day (mostly elliptical), primarily to get healthy, but also with that teenage goal in mind. Now that I've accomplished it, the 5K is my next goal. Wish me luck!

Excited to be starting again! I'm a 50-yr-old Mom with a job and several addictions - gardening, sewing, reading, family. I'm new to Sparkpeople and have about 80 lb to lose. I had a heart problem that got in the way of my last Couch to 5K attempt, but I'm fixed and raring to go now. I have no belief that I can actually do this - but I'm just gonna do it and pay no attention to those anti-cheerleaders in my head. I even took the giant step of TELLING people at work I'm doing this to help keep me motivated.

I'm Toni in Durham , NC.

I used to be a runner back 100 years ago when I was in my twenties; I re-started again a couple years ago - in my mid-40's - when I joined SP and was doing well. I fell off the SparkWagon and now I'm giving it one more try.

I've been jogging on the treadmill - and can do about 2 miles in 25 minutes, but I can't jog more than a few seconds outside. emoticon I'm REALLY bummed about that. I felt like such a loser when I was outside wheezing after about forty seconds. I finished my workout using the walk-jog-wheeze technique and when I was done I wanted to call 911 to drive me home. I know treadmill workouts and outside workouts are very different, but I'm sure a big part of it is my pace - I KNOW it. When I'm outside, I just "take off," jogging fast - not like "running from the boogey man" fast, but too fast to be a slow jog that I can maintain for more than a few seconds.

The last couple times I started jogging, I'd go to an outdoor track and jog behind a walker and modify my pace to stay at least five feet behind them. That worked. In a few weeks, I could stop my track stalking and jog for miles and miles on my own. The first time I'd worked my way up to an eight minute mile and was running six days a week.

Anyhow, I wrote all that nonsense to say, 'I joined the team to become a real live 'being outside, going up and down hills' runner again." Wish me luck

Heyy guys, my name's Kate. I'm 19, and a sophomore in college.I started sparkpeople a while ago, just tracking my calories and goals. I was a gymnast for about 10 years, and have recently been unable to do gymnastics because my college doesn't offer it. I really need to boost my workouts if I want to do gymnastics again when I transfer. I've never been much of a long distance runner, more of a sprinter, but I'm super excited for this 5K program, and I wish everyone the best!

Hello everyone!

I am new to this board. I have been running...well, jogging now for 6 weeks. I can jog a little over 3 miles without stopping and proud of that. I'm still quite slow but I'm hoping to get faster. I have been getting a tad faster little by little. So, I'm here for advice, support, inspiration, and encouragement. So, hello !!

Hi,
I've just switched to this program from the beginner's program. I'm on Week 2, but am ready for a little more challenge - and I DO want to run the whole 5K!
I did couch to 5K a while back, and really enjoyed it, but am now starting over after a lengthy time of illness and injury (unrelated to running)
I'm so thrilled to be running again - and pain free! I've learned not to take things like this for granted!

Hi my name is Audrey, this is my 2nd day of myofficial weight loss journey. I used to be able to run quite well, but over the last few years of college and university i've lost the majority of it. I would like to add this program on to my own fitness program I'm following and potentially be running my first 5K in October! Good luck!

It's never too late to succeed.

Audrey

Hello! I'm Nicole and today is my second day on SparkPeople and I'm already excited! Since spring, I've lost 46 pounds and have a ways to go. I'm only 23 and I've never ran a whole mile in my life. My goal when I started losing weight was to complete a 5K this fall and I'm hoping this will give me the ability to do so!

Hi! I'm Carol. I'm 50. I haven't run in 35 years and I don't exercise much at all. I know that has to change so I decided to go for my secret dream of being a runner! The only problem, which I discovered tonight, is that my feet really don't leave the ground anymore. It was like running with lead boots on. I sure hope that will change as I make my way through the program! At any rate, I started tonight and am humbled.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillipians 4:13
