Hello everyone, just joined this team. I started my walk/job this morning. I live in Arizona so the fall and winter months are great for walking in with lots of sunshine and no rain. The windy days and summertime will be for the treadmill. I'm really excited to start running for fitness. It's what I wanted to do for a while but was afraid to. Thought I would embarrass myself running at this weight, but today I overcame that. So excited to do this.

Hi all :) I'm 28 years old and about 90-100lbs overweight... unfortunately, I've been saddled with PCOS which makes it ALL too easy to pack on the pounds and quite the pain to take them off. I am (obviously lol) not a runner but I've always admired those that are. So I figured why not give it a shot and see if I can do it too!

All of the traditional C25K programs were too advanced for me starting out... running 1 minute and walking 1 minute was way too stressful on my poor out of shape body, but i've been working on improving my stamina and had actually finished a walk 4/jog 1 work out today that happened to match up with this program when I was searching on the internet. Talk about fate! So I know I can do this, it's just going to be a challenge getting there. I'm signed up for a 5K on New Years eve, and I'd LIKE to be able to finish it in 45 minutes. Right now it takes me about 55 so hopefully that's do-able :)

Hi I am new to this group and I hope to make you proud of me. I enjoy walking everyday and I plan to walk more often even though it is getting cold here In Nova Scotia Canada.

Hey guys, I've never run any kind of event before. To tell you the truth I've never really been a runner. Other people make it look so easy but when I try I'm just left huffing, puffing, and cramps in my sides. I'm going to try this out and see how well it goes...

Hello Everyone!

I haven't done a 5k before and nothing planned yet but I love running and have been trying to increase my time daily. Today I came across this group and knew it would be the added boost I needed!

Hi all,

I have always had this dream to be a runner. I have never properly ran, unless you count playing sports, which involved running warm ups...I have decided that this is one of the things I want to accomplish before the end of the year. So here I am!

Best of luck to everyone!

I'm really excited about this!!! I did the walking program for the Trick or Trot virtual race, and It really kept me motivated. I've been struggling with motivation, so I hope this program will have the same effect. I'm registered for my first real world 5k on Thanksgiving, and I have plans to do a Christmas 5k with my "Beach Ready for 2012" Team. These are becoming a really motivating force for me, so here I go (I just hope my knees hold up to it...but I will listen to my body and go at its pace!!!)

I'm on Week 2, and I will probably do more of the traditional 9-week C25K, but who knows?

I just looked up local 5K's in my area for January. I guess I must be serious? I see that there is a "Bold in the Cold" 5K/15K/Half Marathon not too far away the weekend after my 9th week. It is also my 51st birthday that day. Hmmm. Serendipity may require a registration!

This 5K training plan gave me the confidence and courage to try running/jogging and distance walking after many years of not. I did the Halloween 5k and have adding running that mile to
at least 3 mornings of my week for my Nov fast break. Give it a try....it will surprise you how much you can do! Look Mom...I am emoticon

Carve out what is most important to you first, then allocate your day to others! I promise you and they will be better for this decision!!

I've read blogs and so many discuss doing 5Ks, half marathons and so on and since I want to start an exercise program thought this was a good place to start.

Hi everyone!
My name is Sabrina and I'm embarking on this 5k walk/run journey! I have walked a 5k in October of 2010 and I finished with a time of 52:12...I now want to push it a little more by adding jogging to the routine. I will use the program specified and see where it gets me... I have already registered for the virtual race for the week of Dec.4-10, 2012. I plan on doing my race on the Friday. I am starting the training today! I will succeed and reach my goal!

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I have been a Sparker for almost 6 months now. I started back in May at 300 lbs. and added regular exercise to my program the beginning of August. I completed the 5K Your Way Walking program in September and was very happy with the results. I could only walk for 10 minutes when I started that program but, worked my way up to completing a 5K race in 47.23 minutes!

I was able to jog part of that race so I decided to move on to this program to increase my speed and endurance. I have lost 60 pounds so far. The workouts are very challenging for me but, I am doing it! I am currently on week 3.

Without these programs and challenges I don't think I would be motivated to push myself. I am thankful this website and for all the encouragement I received from other Sparkers.

HI! For years and years and years now, every time I start an exercise program or class I get sick (debilitating allergies, pneumonia, vertigo) or injured (knees, low back, broken toes, dropped a table on my neck) within three weeks--usually under circumstances having nothing at all to do with the exercise I'm doing. It just happens, and then I literally can't move or can't breathe or can't see/balance for weeks or months at a time and exercise goes by the boards again, because if I can't dance or run what's the point, and I eat to stuff down my boredom and frustration. It seems like random bad luck in each instance, but it has been nearly ten years of this stuff, which can't be random. I've finally concluded that either the fates just don't want me to exercise, or they want me to drop the ego of having once been athletic and get back into exercise SO moderately and gradually that even a joint injury or a mild illness wouldn't mean stopping completely, but just walking slower. I'm going to try a super-slow, super-steady approach for the first time in my life and see what happens. That means I'll probably be doing this program in about three or four times the normal time, but if I can actually run again at the end of it, that would be amazing. "Do not be afraid of going slowly. Be afraid only of stopping."

Hi :-)
I just walked a 5K Trick or Treat yesterday, and now want to take things up a notch.
I have knee problems so I'm not sure how this will work out for me and I think I might train at a slower pace than the training program takes us through. But I'll give it a try and see. I think if I build up slowly enough, I stand a chance of finding my knees are willing to cooperate :-)

Hi:-)

I love SP challenges and teams. I love SP in general:-) I did cardioblast last week bc I had a hard time getting outside bc of weather and what not...I hurt my ankle ... background, I have an injured ankle, like it is shattered. So, I should not have been doing ALL the exercises with Coach Nicole. I was just so motivated and they were fun exercises. Anyways, it kind of put this program on the back burner.

I finished the walking program and loved it. I look forward to this challenge and building my body into a jogger! I've never considered myself one. I would love to try!

Thank you for the great program! SP is truly motivating me! I have lost almost 15lbs and I can't wait to do more!

Hi All you Newbies! I joined the end of Aug '11 but didn't figure a lot this program site out and
I am still learning. There are videos and help spots to help us tho. YAY! I just want to ex-
tend a welcome from Central Florida! I have over 50 pounds to lose and am on my way. I love the virtual 5K, but am looking forward to doing a real one when I can do a bit better. I do jog about 80 sec., but that's all I can handle yet. It does help to break up my hour on the treadmill. I jog every 10 or 20 min. depending on how I am feeling. It helps to give yourself
some latitude without the guilt. Anyways, WELCOME ALL!!! Trudy Sincere emoticon

Hi everyone! I am inspired by you all and hope that in time I can walk much more than I do! I can't run/jog as I have a hip replacement and my surgeon has advised no high impact sports for me! However, I do need to do some form of low impact sports to keep my bones healthy! It is 15 years since it was replaced after many years of disability around that! So a healthy brisk walk is my limit! I have to pace myself though and not overdo things as I do tend to do that.. go in all gung ho and then suffer for days afterwards which puts me back!

I have found this site amazing so far and the support here is great! I aim to lose weight and want to use the walking aspect to enhance that!

Good luck to you all and look forward to catching up with our successes as time goes on!

What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

Hello! I joined this team this past week but just did my first walk/jog training today. I was actually surprised that I could jog a bit without collapsing! I might be able to do this after all ... woohoo! I've always WANTED to be a runner but just wasn't sure I could actually do it or not and I've finally worked up the courage to give it a shot. I'm hopeful, after today's training, that I WILL be able to do it :) Also hoping to break the plateau I've been on for the past 2 1/2 months in the process :)

Hi, I just joined the group today, and also joined a race that starts on Oct 30th. I've been a member of SP for quite some time now, but it's been a challenge because once I get into the healthy habits, "something" always gets in the way. I started blogging, and with that, it's been keeping focused, and now, I actually like to workout! The only problem with that is getting myself to the gym for an actual workout. I joined so I can stay motivated, and focused! Good luck to you all! =]

Hello,
My name is Jennifer, I have wanted to be a runner for so long but didnt know how or where to start. I know that sounds silly! everyone can run, thats what my thin, athletic sister says. Well I cant, nor have I ever been able to. I want to be one of those people who run confidently in a sports bra and spandex pants along the side of the road and look great doing it. I want to run for the peace of the activity. To be able to take that 30 mins at sunset and just go...me and dog and the sound of my feet on the pavement..im hoping this plan is the start of that goal! And im gonna make it work!!

Hi, I am happy to be a member of the team. I joined about a month ago and am pleased to say "So far, so good! This is the only way of losing weight that seems to be working for me.
I am losing weight slowly and steadily. I like that. Last week my weigh-in produced no change on the scale. I am Ok with that. Sometimes I find it difficult to get my body to the
gym and onto the treadmill. I still have to go today. (Will leave in 15 min). Once I have com-pleted my workout, I am elated. Mind over matter, I guess. Looking forward to the next 5K.

I have been a 'wannabe' walk/jog/runner for a long time but every time I've started, something has held me back. I'm pretty capable of walking intermediate distances and have started a new streak of 10k steps per day or more for a week now. I know, it's not much but I believe in baby steps!!

Currently, I can comfortably and pretty easily walk around 5 miles without stopping at about 17.5 to 18 min per mile - my first goal is to get faster and I'm targeting a Virtual 5k in 2 weeks at 16 min per mile or less. I've walked that fast before so I'm thinking I can get to that speed within a couple of weeks but if not, I'll just do the best I can.

I have signed up for a Virtual 10k the week of Thanksgiving and also signed up for a REAL 10k run/walk Turkey Trot - my fantasy goal is to finish in less than 100 minutes but I'll be happy if I can finish it period at any speed. It gives me a goal to shoot for and using the training program should help me make progress.

Glad to be part of the team!

I walked for 5mins then ran 60 secs walked 90 secs until i had done 20 mins - seriously showing how unfit I am!!!! But onwards and upwards as I hope in a few weeks I will have made this a habit and look back wondering what i was ever worried about

Hi everyone,

I've never been good at running my whole life and for some reason I really want to be able to do it. My husband and I would eventually like to do some small adventure competitions where you need to run about 3 miles, and that's my goal. I'm hoping with this program and help from you guys I can do this. I have a treadmill at home I can use, and then lots of dirt roads around me to train on as well. I look forward to making this happen with you guys!!

My name is Cheri. I used to run cross-country in high school and since graduating have been running on and off but its been a while so I am trying to get back into it slowly. I am 34 years old now and would like to make it a goal of mine to run a marathon by the time I am 40 years old. I figure that this is a good place to start.

Good morning!

I'm Jenn and have not been a runner ever. Always in the saddle with my horse. This is a huge goal of mine as I never thought it was possible, but everything is possible. Not sure about the 5 week thing but will extend everything if need be so I am in a good place with the body.

If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.

Hi! My name is ConRon, I've been looking for someone who is a Senior Citizen (so to speak).
I am glad to have found you. I just walked-jogged my very first 5K. I couldn't remember how
far it was, so I did 3.7mi in 60 min. I was pleased as punch, too!! I am 64 and 50lbs over
what I should weigh. I am planning on doing the Halloween 5K. Are you? Glad to meet you.

Hello my name is Helen I am a 32yr old mother of a 4yr old daughter Chloe and 6mo old boy/girl twins Ashlynn & Bryson. The twins are finally on a schedule I can live with so 4 days a week I go for a walk/run before everyone wakes up. I started the C25K in 09 then we moved to a rural town in Washington and I found out I was expecting twins so my workouts were put on hold. Now I am finally able to start jogging again I have walked a 5K before and walk all the time I am really hoping to run a 5K and evetually work my way to a marathon. My motivation right now is to stop the excuses and do it no matter what rain or shine never give up. I have completed wk two feeling good and ready to start wk 3 on monday.

Lets finish this 5K off strong

Hi! My name is Goddess! (not really, just love my alter ego)

I live on a small cattle ranch 1 hour north of Dallas, Texas. I am a city girl who married a hansome cowboy 22 years ago and ended up in a small town out in the country. (picture Eva Gabor on the tv show Green Acres! lol)

I joined SP 5 months ago at 300 pounds and, through healthy livin', have shed 51.4 pounds of burden!

I completed the 5K Your Way Walking Program last month and love, love, loved completing a real 5K at the end of it!

I am living proof that a middle aged, couch potato can go from no exercise to a 5K in 5 weeks! I even jogged part of my 5K. My time was 47.23 minutes.
Now I want a new challenge. I want to get stronger, leaner and faster for my next 5K.

I completed Day 1 of Week 1 of the Walk/Jog Program yesterday and I was totally drenched in sweat and hyperventilating!!! I had jelly legs for an hour afterwards. It was very challenging for me but, I DID IT!!!

This will be hard for me but, I believe that I can push through it. I will do my best and give it 110%!

Best wishes to you all and remember, if I can do this, you can too!

Hi my name is Carrie and I am not a runner. I enjoy a fast walk. Have been trying to job to work up to running but my knees are really aching with that so any advice would be helpful. I already take glucosomine chondroitin daily to help. I would like to complete a 5k though!

Hello, everyone! My name is Stacey and I'm excited to do my first "official" 5K. About a year ago, I was getting to be quite the runner... then I quit. And if you quit, you lose it, trust me!

I want to get back into running and I think this program is the motivation I need!

Good luck, everyone, with your personal goals! emoticon

Hey! I'm Melissa from Alabama. I have been keeping my workouts diverse in hopes of keeping my body guessing and help me stay motivated. This gives me another opportunity to do that. :) I've never been involved with a 5k, but a few of my friends and I have toyed around with the idea of participating in one together. What better time than now, right?

Hello Everyone,

I am excited to train with you guys. We can do it! I walked a 5K in September and was able to finish it within an hour. Since then I have completed a 5K on the treadmill in 52 minutes. I feel that I am ready for the next level so bring on the walk/jog!

Greetings and Salutations all! I am needing to be motivated to push myself a little harder. I am going to try to do week one and see how that goes. I may need to switch to the walking group but we shall see.
