Hi, I decided to join the 8 week challenge because I have been a diabetic for about 15 years and the last 3 or 4 years I have lost it. about 3and a half years ago I started taking insulin but because I did not diet or exercise my sugars are still out of control. I have started a diet and exercise program and doing ok at it. I am now learning to adjust meds so it doesent go too low. I find that when my sugars are low I feel worse than being to high. Sometimes I get so frustrated I just cant find that Happy in between point. Just would like someone to talk to

Howdy! My name is Shay and I will be 39 in 14 days. My mom is a diabetic and recently had to have her leg amputated from not taking care of herself. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which also means that I am insulin resistant. I do not have diabetes, yet. If I continue down this road I believe I will so I want to nip it in the bud now.

My name is Bettie. I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 in 1999. I had control of the diabetes back then, but I became complacent and stopped exercising and eating proper meals. I am waiting for my material to start the 8-week diabetes weight loss challenge.

My name is Mary - I'm 52 and my doctor wants me to lose 30 lbs and that my sugar level
is alittle high but not considered diabetic and very low in Vitamin D. I've been struggling with my weight for at least 2-3 years and now I have a wake up call..no more excuses definitely. I have been watching what I eat and in small portions. Looking forward to your support and suggestions that may help.

Hi: my name is Tammy. I'm a 46 yr old with Metabolic Syndrome - 1 step away from Diabetes. I work full time mid nights. I need to lose about 50lbs and have been struggling with this for about 4 years now. I have tried various things and have not been able to succeed ....I am hoping this challenge will assist me with my goals.
If any of you also work the night shift, i would like to chat with you about how you fit everything into your schedule. I find it extremely difficult to find the time for exercise as I have a broken sleep pattern and am always tired.
Look forward to your comments and suggestions

In my extended family, when asked if we have diabetes, we reply "not yet". I AM BREAKING the CHAIN! I am NOT going to have diabetes ever.

Since my teenage daughter has a physical condition that is susceptible to diabetes, besides being in our family, I joined this group to help me be proactive and preventative for both of us.

I am one of those people that are constantly on again off again exercising. I fight massive cravings for the sweet n salty stuff. Carbs!! I am not yet diagnosed as a diabetic. My mom, dad, and older brother are type2 diabetics. I would like to learn to eat healthier and drop about 15lbs to help keep the diagnosis of Type2 diabetes further away from me.

Hello, my name is Wyndy (Quietudeagain1). I started on this program awhile ago and then developed IBS so dropped the diabetic and focused on figuring out what set of the IBS. Now that I have that under control I am back to try using food to help to control the diabetes. I am on Metformin. I am 61, Canadian, so my blood sugar numbers are very different from American. I am suppose to keep my numbers between 5.5 and 6.0. Right now I am running at 8.5.

Good evening Ruth,
I am happy to chat with you. How long have you had Diabetes? I have had Diabetes since I was 10 years old (I have MSCTD and I have always been on a lot of steroids, which raises your sugar). I am hoping to bring my sugar levels down between 80-120. I could use a weight loss buddy (I'm glad we have something in common). How old are your children? It will be great to have someone to go through this process with. Here's to losing those pounds together!!! emoticon emoticon

Hello all, My name is Ruth Wright and I have had Type II Diabetes for 6 years. My weight has gone up because I have not had good moral support for the past few years. I am now living with someone else who is trying to lose weight and she found this web site on her computer. I agreed to give it a try. We both started on 5-29-2012. So far I have lost a total of 11 lbs, and I can already feel a difference. I have more energy and I am excited about trying new healthier foods. I also am having fun figuring out recipes that are now good for me because I love to cook.
I would enjoy any type of encouragement for any of you. HERE'S TO WATCHING THOSE POUND GO AWAY AND OUR DIABETES COMING UNDER CONTROL!!!
Oh, I am a 53 year old female who has 2 children and 4 grandchildren. I want to watch them all grow up. That is also why I am doing this!

Hi everyone, I'm Beth. I was diagnosed in 2007 and immediately decided that diabetes WAS NOT going to control me. My insurance at the time didn't cover available classes so I read all the handout literature from the Dr. and the pharmacist and made a plan. Wow! What a plan! I walked 1 - 2 miles just about everyday did strength training every other day, watched my carbs and tried to increase my fiber intake. The weight melted off - I dropped 54 lbs to an adult lifetime low of 136 lb. Sadly those days are far behind me... I'm right back where I started. Got a lot of work to do. I'm still familiarizing myself with all the stuff available here so forgive me if I don't post stats until I am familiar. Working on building up my stamina again, at 63 it ain't easy, but it will happen, it's got to.

One slept and dreamed of becoming;
another stayed awake and became.

Hi! I'm Dorien. Today is my first day. I am a diabetic with metabolic syndrome, and my weight has gone up and down over the years. It takes a lot of work to get the weight off - I also have a thyroid problem. But it's so easy to gain it back! I'm back at the top of the scale again, and am motivated to get in better shape.

Hello everyone,

I am Constance, 5 yrs ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and since then I have been up and down with controlling it. However, I am tired of it now and want to get healthier and continued to improve so I won't have to take medications any longer. The one thing I have found is that it is better to share with others and take this journey with others. I am living in Korea (I just retired from the Army after 23yrs). And I want to live long to see my children and grandchildren grow up. So let's stick together and encourage each other! Hooah!

hello
my name is Darleen
I'm 53yrs old and have decided that I don't wanna look older than my age.
I have diabetes, high blood pressure and I'm bipolar.
So time to get to work before I damage my body so bad that I don't even make it to age 60
I recently moved from Miami Florida to Columbus, MS which in itself will add a few years to my life. Anyways going to try this cause it looks a little different from other diet websites where they just want you to buy something

Hi! I'm Anne. I am trying to get my sugar levels back to normal and lose weight so I can get pregnant. This is all new to me and the doctor put me on medication to bring my levels back to normal, but I do not want to stay on medication. I am changing the way I eat and learning to exercise so I can stay healthy. In three weeks I have lost 7 pounds. I am hoping to continue to adapt to a new lifestyle. This is a big challenge for me but I have a wonderful husband who supports me.

Hi, my name is Dianne and I just joined Spark People today and am looking forward to this challenge. I need something to keep me on track and this seems to be just what I need! I'm 55, mother of 3 grown children. Both of my sons are getting married this year, one in just over a month, so I've been busy with wedding plans and not taking care of myself as well as I should be. Losing weight has been such a challenge to me, especially since I began taking insulin. It seems like the pounds just will not come off! I'm looking forward to exploring this site and becoming more healthy and fit.

Hi everyone, my name is Erica. I am a Type I diabetic and have been diagnosed for right at 16 years. I have never had great control but I am gaining more everyday. I need to lose A LOT of weight and my A1C is at 9.6 and I would like to get it down to a 7.5. I appreciate this challenge and am looking forward to getting my trophy as I meet my goals! :) emoticon

Hi all. I'm Cheryl, Type 2 diabetic for several years, on several oral medications. My A1C is right around 7 but I want it to be better. Also I would like to eliminate some of the meds, so at my doctor's suggestion I am embarking on a plan to shed some weight. My goal is to reduce by 30 pounds, and this is my first week on the program.

Hi,
My name is Deb. Diagnosed with diabetes March of this year. Been following the food pretty well, but I have to admit, I'm still too sedentary. I really want to keep up with the exercise part of it. I am not taking meds. Told the doc I would work on diet and exercise and retest again after 4 months...my numbers were fasting blood sugar 102 and A1c 146 - not too high. I am determined to never have to take meds. I have read testimonials from others with diabetes on SP who have reduced or stopped taking meds...this is for me!!!...no meds, no nausea from meds, and finally lose my extra pounds and get healthy!!!

Hi everyone. I am pre-diabetic and wanting to keep from having full blown diabetes. My weight and eating have been way out of control especially over the past 3 months and I gained back 7 of 15 pounds I lost after the new year. I was eating a lot of junk carbs and sugar. I am resolved now to get a handle on good eating and exercise habits again to be healthy.

My name is Toni, I am currently at 340 lbs. I have been married for 12 years this month. I have two children, Gabe (17) and Jesse (3). I originally signed up for Spark people earlier this year but have not been very active with sticking to my goals. I have decided that I need to stick with it and take one day at a time....one meal at a time. Sometimes it seems so far out of reach when I look at the big picture of how much I need to lose... that I get discouraged and quit trying. Over the years this has happened time and time again....only to continually climb the weight gain ladder. My health is not at its best and I need to choose this lifestyle change for me. I am never one to put myself first. But really, it has to be that way or things will never change. The last two days I have logged my food and water and have been able to stay within my limits. I realize that the tracking and logging works for me. I appreciate any support or thoughts you might help me with on my journey and look forward to getting to know you guys. emoticon

God Bless, Toni

When you think of quitting.....Remember why you started!

Hi all! My name is Samantha. I'm a 45yr old grandma of 1, mother of 2, and the wife of a wonderful man. I was diagnosed many yrs ago and have very, very slowly changed a lot of my habits, too slowly for my doctor! I have issues with carbs, especially sweets. I have recently cut yeast out of my diet and have been slowly cutting out wheat as well. While I am not celiac, I am intolerant to both of them. I also have hypothyroid which makes it more difficult (but not impossible) to lose weight.
I joined this team to help with the motivation issues I have and to be able to share experiences with others in the same predicament!

God understands our prayers even if we can't find the words to say them.

Hello all,
I am 30 years old, and pre-diabetic. I am hoping to prevent developing diabetes by losing weight and finally for the first time in my life being healthy. I am new to spark, and hope to make a few friends along the way to help maintain my motivation. I am ready to make a change and not be limited by my weight any longer!

I pray for courage for all of us. Here's to our health!
