Howdy! I'm Shannon. Don't remember when I joined, but this is the second time I visited my spark teams. I am slowly learning all about SP. When I started I weighed 300 I am now down to 283ish. Thats since the beginning of Feb. I think. I finally bought the book and dvd set from Books-a-million a couple weeks ago, and been reading that. It's just that there are 7 people that fight over this one computer, and Today is MY day! hehe
I am 39 (i think. if i count correctly) married for 16 years in march. 3 kids. 2 girls 15 and 13, and son 11 going on 2... his attitude is worse than any girl I know... :) Lets see, I have 5 horses, 4 dogs and 5 cats, 2 or 3 are due to have kittens any day now.... help! they need homes! :)

Glad to get the time to really spend looking around and enjoying the SP site today!

Good morning!

I joined SP on Feb 2, and haven't regretted a day since! It's so easy to meet wonderful, supportive people here, and I'm still discovering all the great teams out there (which is why it took me this long to even get here!!). emoticon

I'm currently living in Southern Germany with my husband and our zoo (two dogs, two cats, eight guinea pigs), where I find it relatively easy to spend a lot of time outside. This year, I'm turning 40, and my goal is to finally get that kick-ass body I never had in my twenties (haha, talk about challenging yourself!). emoticon

My preference has always been to work out by myself, so I do a lot of stuff from DVDs and the Wii, but this year, I also want to run a 5K - it's an excuse for me to see a friend from school I've hardly had contact with in over 20 years! Such is living with the opportunities provided by social networking...

Besides working out and spending time in the virtual world, I enjoy traveling, music, movies; I'm a ravenous reader, an amateur photographer and occasionally get bouts of wanting to "make stuff" (usually around Christmas).

Glad to be here and looking forward to getting to know more of you! emoticon

Hi, I'm Jennifer. I've posted on here some but just realized that I haven't introduced myself. I'm married to a wonderful, supportive man and have 2 sons. One will get his driver's license this year, the other will graduate from college this year. My oldest son plans to marry in January and I'd like to shed about 30 pounds so I can "look good" in the wedding photos. I have enjoyed this web site so far and I'm discovering new things every day. I'm Rena. Joined a few weeks back, but I'm having a hard time getting started. Its not that I don't understand what to do. Procrastination seems to be kicking me in the behind!! I wake up and tell myself I'm going to eat right and exercise that day, and by the evening, it all falls apart. Gonna try starting over again. While there is a number I would love to see on the scale (and yes, I've listed it as my weight goal), the imperative for me is living a healthy, fully aware and balanced life. I stumbled on SP as I was searching for nutritional info via google. After just a quick glance, I knew I had to sign up and get to using this for all it is worth. I'm LOVING it!!!

Hello Everyone! This is my first post on one of my team's pages. I decided to start here.
My name is Jhen, I'm 29 and I'm from Michigan. I am almost a week into the program. I have signed up for Sparkpeople in the past, but never stuck to it, this time in my life I have more self-confidence and I am ready for success!

I'm having a tough time today. I ate my great brunch, but I am kind of putting off my workout. I need some support. I need new friends. I decided I need to start getting more active with my team!

Hi All!

I wanted to make sure I was truly comitted before I jumped in, and after these first days with SP, I'm certain! There sure is a wealth of info and tools here - amazing.

I'm a 40 something wife and mom of one school age boy. I work in holistic health part time. My son was quite unwell for the past 4 years, so the stress and 20 hour days of caring for him and endless daily therapies really took a toll on my own well being. Very little sleep, very literally no free time to do anything but care for a child, and comfort eating do not keep one fit. But the past year has been so awesome, all his health challenges are gone, he's healthy, happy, bright and thriving! And we are very, very grateful.

I started homeschooling this past year, and we had a chance to move a few months ago. We absolutely love our new community, our new home, our new life!

Now I have time and energy for regaining my wellbeing. Who would expect that healthful eating and fitness could feel like luxuries?

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all as we adjust to our improved lifestyle choices.

My name is Beth and I live in Toronto. I have just joined Sparkpeople for the first time last week, and my goal is to lose 15 pounds by May.

I am 46 years old, married to my best friend, and have 13 year old twins. For the past 10 years every year I have put on 1-2 pounds and now I'm on the cusp of being over a healthy BMI. I want to lose weight so I can stay active with my kids and husband, look better in clothes and stop avoiding reunions with people who I haven't seen in a few years.

Hi everyone, my name is Tina. I'm 33, married, no kids. I've used this site before and like all the other times I tried to lose weight,after some success I gave up. I can't afford to give up this time. I'm morbidly obese and have spent too many years of my life that way. My weight always fluctuated when I was younger but it was usually like 10-20lbs. then in my twenties I guess I just stopped caring and let myself keep piling weight on. I'm ready to make the changes to get rid of this weight once and for all. I'm wasting my life on the sidelines under all these extra pounds. I am Tanya. I am a 40 years old living in TN. My husband and I will be celebrating our 18th anniversary on Valentine's Day. We have a wonderful 7 year old boy, and a large yellow lab mix. I work full time as an RN Case Manager for an insurance company. I have never been skinny, but I really started packing on the pounds when I left floor nursing for a desk job.
I am now 100 pounds over weight. I feel tired, achy, and sluggish. With this kind of extra weight, I get short of breath going up stairs. I am having trouble keeping up with my son. Tying my shoes has become a chore. This was never where I thought I would be at 40.
My starting date was February 1st 2011. I have to start somewhere. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Hey all,

Just joined SparkPeople this weekend because I'm not sure what else to do. I'm running out of options. I eat healthily: at this point I'm essentially a low-carb Pescetarian, eating several small meals a day. I work out 3 times a week with a personal trainer and am on the treadmill 3 other days for at least 45 minutes. Somehow, however, I've managed to gain 20 pounds in the past year, and to not lose any after starting with my trainer (lifting weights and the whole bit).

Hoping to find people on here who may have gone through the same kind of thing, and to hold myself accountable with the food/exercise tracking.

Hello all, I am Janet living in No Nevada, 57 yrs old and 60 lbs over goal : ). Yesterday was my first day of nutrition tracking and I was amazed at eating only 1147 calories. I signed up for a weight loss program at the university on Thurs. and it is just tracking calories in and activities. they recommended Sparkpeople. So I tried to be good yesterday and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Now I need to find some high protein snacks to round out the intake and keep getting up off my butt during the day. emoticon

My name is Lilly and I am 40 years old. I lost weight in the past, though this past year, I did gain a bit back. I am on a mission to loose 43 pounds. I will be going to the gym as often as possible each week, I walk everywhere or take the train since my hubby takes the car to work, and I do a lot of walking due to my photography classes, just to get the perfect pics. Hi, all. I'm new today. I'm 54, and have always been fat. I never worried much about it, and stayed about the same weight most of my adult life. I've always been healthy and happy. Then I got ovarian cancer two years ago, and have had lots of health problems as a result, which made me sedentary and I gained weight. I'm cancer-free now (and hope to remain that way), but still in lots of chemo-related pain, so I gained more weight. Then I fell on the ice and injured my back, so I have pinched nerves that cause more leg pain and digestive issues, so I gained more weight. Then my dear husband died suddenly in November -- you can imagine what that has done. It has been way too easy to eat everything in sight, and since I am a former-professional cook with three teen boys at home (I'm a foster mom), there is always a lot of food here. Despite all this, I am an upbeat, happy person generally -- just a person who has lost any sense of portion control or self-control. I'm diabetic, so I need to eat low-carb (and I enjoy doing that, which I have my head on straight). It's been a crazy couple of years, and I'm ready to re-focus and find joy again. Glad to be here.

Hello! I'm Kayla! I'm 23 years old and live in California. I married my wonderful husband in July. I lost a little bit of weight before my wedding but since then I have gained it all back. I weight 142 pounds and I would like to weight 120 or 125.

Hello, everyone; I'm Kate. I joined SP a couple of days ago, and I think this is going to be the thing to really turn my life around (health-wise). I did Weight Watchers back in high school and lost about 30 pounds, then gained it all back (plus an extra 10) over the past 8 years because I didn't view my "diet" as a lifestyle change. This site is amazing motivation, and I think I'm truly changing for the better!

Hi! I really need to get down to a healthy weight. I have been just eating anything lately whether I am hungry or not. Mindless eating has to stop. I want to have more energy to do things with my daughter. The cold stormy weather here in NY City has been keeping me sedentary too. I love to get out & walk but I have been afraid of falling on ice.

I'm new here, I'm also new to dieting and exercise ( I'm a big couch potato). I have a little bit of weight to lose, and I would like to be healthier in general. I also have a family history of diabetes, so that is a motivating factor for me as well. Plus I'm tired of telling my sister to walk slower because I'm out of breath (she walks REALLY fast, so its not as bad as it sounds, but still).

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. Hopefully we can help each other reach our goals =D

Crys here!!!! :) First day on SP and I have a great feeling about it! I did a pretty good workout, tracked all my intake in food today and got familure with the site, Even think imma make the hubby one of the awsome recipes on here!!! Hello - I am 44, a retired Senior Chief's wife (Navy), mom of 2 boys (16 & 9), moved from Hawaii to rural Virginia 3 years ago and am adapting and adjusting to many things. I had been hoping for a great tool to help me pay more attention to my nutrition (as I'm going through peri-menopause) and connect me to a community where I can share my passion for health and wellness, while learning from and taking care of my own body.

I am an ACE certified personal trainer, Brown Belt Nia Teacher, former Group Fitness Director for the Honolulu Club and now... I'm The Bra Fairy (I am an orthopedic custom bra fitter... - I know --- midlife is GREAT! LOL)

Anyhow - transitions can be very stressful to our being: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually - so my emotional body is the aspect I'm focused on right now.

Great to have a community I can easily connect to!

Very very cool concept and I'm excited to be a part of this journey...

Hello All!

I just joined this website to find some additional support and guidance to reach my weight loss goals. I have added a steady 3 to 5 pounds a year for 15 years and despite numerous efforts, have been unable to lose weight. I'm just finishing up my first 30-day shred and am waiting to weigh-in until I finish. Fingers crossed!

This website seems to be great for nutrition tracking which I think I need most. I'm realizing that eating 4 pretzels here, two hershey kisses there, and just one small sliver of pizza are really hurting my progress. (lol)

Oh and... GO STEELERS. :)

Hello all! My name is Brandi Lee and this is my first time at spark. I'm very excited to have found this site. I was looking for a free way to track my diet and exercise, and was researching tips for weight loss. On one of the websites they offered a link to this site, and I must say I'm really impressed! I tried using weight watchers points online before, and I didn't do well on it at all (of course this was before the recent changes- which I LOVE btw because they favor fruits and veggies more now). I'm hoping that with a tracker that isn't necessarily judging how good my choices are, but just gives me the facts, I'll find better success.

I moved down to Austin TX from Binghamton NY about 8 months ago. I went from a place where it was reasonable to wear long sleeves and pants practically all year to a place where it is reasonable to wear tshirts and shorts/skirts nearly all year. And let's just say, I do not have the body right now for shorts and tshirts so I was miserable all last summer. This year, I want to feel more confident with my body. I want to lose some fat and tone my muscles so I look good and can wear what I want. For a kick-start, I have a conference coming up at the end of the month, and I'm really hoping to lose 5 lbs by then. In 4 weeks, that should be doable, especially since I'm unemployed so have extra time for healthy meal preparation and exercise. For me, 5lbs is about one pants size, so it would feel very meaningful to me if I achieved this!

I start tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Hi All!
I'm Sara. I'm 36 and haven't gotten the baby weight off from baby number 2. It's been 2.5 years, so the baby weight is now just weight. I've only got about 18 pounds to lose, but I just haven't done it. I want to feel good about myself again, instead of trying to 'hide' under big sweaters and shawls. I got the weight off after baby #1, so I know it's possible.

I'm hoping the support here is just what I'll need to finally get on a roll and get it off. I would be so happy if I could do it by this summer.

Here's to us all feeling better about ourselves and just feeling better by summer!!

Hi. I'm going to try to take full advantage of what is available here. I'm 44 years old. 70+ pounds overweight. Work full time. 4 kids. High blood pressure. And scared to death. I've tried so many times to lose weight. I think it is possible. I'm not sure I know how to do it. There is so much here on this site but I'm a bit overwhelmed. Hi, I'm Kristen. This is not my first time on Spark People. I had some success using this site in the past, but pregnancies have a way of interrupting weight loss. I'm now a year post-partum from my 3rd child and know that I need to do something. I want to be healthier and more active for myself and for my family. There is a history of post-menopausal diabetes in my family and I want to be the one to buck that trend. I know I have a long road ahead of me. This time, I'm not looking for quick solutions, I'm being reasonable. I am giving myself a year to lose the weight (or most of it). I think looking at it that way it is a lifestyle solution, not a yo-yo fix.
I'm a teacher by profession, but currently on an extended leave.
