Hello SHELAGH62,

I just read your story.
At the beginning of July 2014, I was at the highest weight I had ever been at in my entire life.
I was depressed, stressed and felt utterly hopeless. By chance I happened upon The 17 Day Diet. It is approx 13 weeks later and I have lost 17 lbs. I am a vegetarian, so I adapted the diet to fit my dietary needs. Thankfully I found the meatless subs on Dr. Phil's site.

My friend Jane started the 17 Day Diet shortly after me and she has lost 20 lbs!

My long term goal is to lose another 41 lbs.
My mid term goal is to lose another 18 lbs by the end of the year.
My short term goal is to lose 6 lbs by the end of October.

If you set you mind to it, you can reach your goals.
Create a long term goals and then break it down to little daily mini goals.
If you follow the 17 Day Diet, you are going to feel so much better day by day by day.
I know I do.

Oh sure I have had a few bumps in the road, but I never gave up!
I feel so much better!

So many of the aches and pains in my body are gone.
My mood has lifted.
I have more energy.
Oh the list goes on and on and on.

I don't post much on the Spark boards, but your story compelled me to.
Please know I am rooting for you!

Take Good Care:) ~

Marie, Tammy & DogWalker--I just want to thank you all for your responses and support here. I have been feeling so lousy and so utterly helpless; it means *so* much to have support from folks who've "walked the walk."

I took my measurements and weighed in today. It was depressing, but now I know where I am. I keep hearing that saying in my head about how it's impossible to move forward without accepting where I am today. So... I'm trying to be gentle & understanding with myself and not beat myself up about my weight gain. It is what it is, and I am taking steps to get healthier *TODAY*.

I am doing the fasting day today (smoothies) and so far, so good. It's nice to be doing it on a Saturday so I can relax and not be at work. I do need to shop later and pick up a few things for the coming week (proteins, veggies, grapefruit), but I have plenty to get me through tomorrow.

Thank you all so very much for sharing your experience, insights, and encouragement. I'm starting to feel hopeful, and that's something I have not felt in a very long time. I will definitely check out the Daily Check In forum, too. Hope to see y'all there. :)

Marie--best of luck to you with all the transitions--wow! I admire your courage, willingness, and enthusiasm to meet life head on, even through big challenges.

I started the 17DD in February 2013, after a friend recommended it to me. I have several autoimmune conditions, as does she, and she swore that this diet had helped her with her inflammation and pain, when medications did not. I first downloaded the intro from Amazon, and read the first chapter. I thought it sounded like every other diet, and was too stubborn and cheap to pay the $10 for the book. That was October. By January, I was having so many issues with my autoimmune disease, that I decided it was time to make a change. Nothing else had been working and I bought the book. I've never looked back! Since then, I have lost 47 pounds and have pretty much kept it off. It has changed my way of looking at food. It was easy, no counting points or calories. And I was never hungry, being able to eat unlimited amounts of protein and veggies during the first 34 days helped with that. I have gone from a size 14/16 to a size 8! And did I mention that I was pre-menopausal and on prednisone off and on through this entire timeframe?! Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can. As long as you stay strong and stick to the plan, it DOES work! And I feel healthier and younger than I have in a very long time. The first few days can be rough, especially if you have been eating a lot of processed foods, but you can get past it with lots of protein! And even if you have the occasional slip up, face it, we all do, you can easily get back on track by doing a couple of days of C1.

Be sure and check out the Daily Check In forum, where several team members "hang out" and share our stories.

Hope you are able to get some relief with your shoulder. Bless you for making such a major move to help your folks! Are you originally from CA? Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I appreciate it, especially in view of all the demands on you right now. emoticon

Tammy, I do blog on sparkpeople and I do get the posts of people who post here, so I do try very hard to come in and offer my input when I can, I'm just not here on that daily thread so much.
What is going on in my life is this, actually... (I'll fill you in on what I've been blogging about). My mother has early dementia and it's been my plan to go back home to California to go and try to help both her and my father lose weight with the 17 Day Diet, actually (not that it will help her with her dementia). She also suffers from arthritis all over her body and it keeps her in a chair all day long. She needs a double knee replacement and my father is in need of a hip replacement. So, that's the main reason I'm heading out there.
Also, my son is starting his senior year this week... so we aren't leaving til sometime after his graduation and then we get to see where he's headed to college/university next fall.
Oh, and we've decided to sell everything we own and buy an RV and live in that and that's what will take us out there and what we'll live in, so in the midst of all of this, we are downsizing CURRENTLY... oh and did I mention that my husband is losing his job at the end of this month? lol
Okay, I think I just about caught you all up! LOL All the other is just little stuff... like the fact that I'm in pt because I can't move my shoulders much, etc... just little stuff... haha it'll all be great!

Shelagh – Welcome!!! Marie is absolutely right. This diet works, and she is an outstanding example for all of us. On this diet I have few to no cravings and feel satisfied while eating healthy foods. That is what has spelled success for me. Please feel free join us for sharing and caring on the “Are you on track today?” thread where most of the “action” is for this team right now. Also, check out the cycle recipes…you might find some good ideas there.

Marie – Nice to see your reply to Shelagh. I sure wish you would post here more. You have so much to offer, but I also understand that you likely have many other things going on and probably have less need to stop by here. But nonetheless, if your time permits, check in, start a new topic, or whatever you want. You are a star!

Hi Shelagh! I'll be honest that I don't post here much, but IF you email me here, I WILL answer you! I have lost an incredible amount due to the 17 Day Diet and it's turned my life around. It sure sounds like you know what a healthy life is like and now you are in dire straights. I get that. I was in dire straights medically when I started this diet and I've blogged about it.
Now, well, I'm going through other issues, and some touch a bit on what you are discussing, so I can relate somewhat. I am fairly focused on my weight, but it seems that instead of actively losing, I actively maintain. But, that's better then gaining, in my book. I am still fairly healthy, although I am getting tune ups here and there for a multitude of issues and I feel most are brought on by the weight I had carried for so very long.
I'll leave it at that, you can find out more about me through my blog and can even find out where my main blog is through that, if you really wanted to, or just ask in an email... either way, I'm letting you know I'm here for you if you need me. The biggest thing I am trying to have you come away with is that this diet WORKS and it already sounds like you have a friend to do it with, which is amazing! So, I wish you both well and you'll be amazed! What helped me in conjunction with this were the Leslie Sansone walking tapes. I was doing this diet along with those tapes and the weight just dropped off of me.
Good luck to you both!

Eat clean and be lean!

I have had a Spark account for a while but haven't really used it much. I used to consider myself extremely healthy, but major life stress has eroded that--divorce, major surgery, home loss, job loss, escalating elderly parent care (both now diagnosed with Alzheimer's), a sibling with progressive MS... I could go on, but I know from the posts I've read that many of you are in the same boat. My stress level is through the roof. :(

And now I'm the heaviest & most out of shape I've been in about 15 years. :( I'm 52, menopausal (for 5 years now), w/hypothyroid & osteoporosis--a shocking diagnosis since I was very active up until about 2 years ago, when the proverbial substance really hit the fan. More recently I have been battling chronic, severe fatigue and am undergoing tests to try and determine the cause (aside from extreme stress). I feel lousy, and so I'd pretty much given up hope on ever losing any weight ever again. :(

Until...

A good friend recently asked me if I'd want to do the 17 Day Diet with her. I hadn't heard of it, so I ordered the book. I was skeptical at first, but after reading it, it sounds like a really sensible plan. Our official start date is September 6--that gives us time to shop, prepare, and do whatever we need to set ourselves up for a solid start. I still don't think I will lose any weight, but I know it will help get me back on track with a solid plan of healthy eating & associated habits (water, sleep, exercise). I just want to feel better again. :( So... I am really glad there is a Spark Team for 17DD. I am going to need all the support I can get.
