Hello, I'm Chris

I'm happily married to my best friend of 34 (almost) years. We have three adult children and one fur baby. We are also blessed to be called Grandma and papa. We operate a 3 generation farm in eastern Colorado.

In May my mother in law was diagnosed with breast cancer, which had started to spread into her lympnodes. My husband and I are her main care givers.
Three years ago my sister in law had received a terminal diagnosis of brain tumor and stage 3 cancer, followed by a diagnosis of Leukemia and another terminal illness that I can't remember the name of. She is fighting hard to watch her kids grow up.
My heart goes out to anyone that is walking or has walked this journey.
I sadly must admit the I never understood the impact on the loved ones like I do now. I come here with hope of finding support for the rough days and knowledge to help loved ones through this chapter.

May God Bless each and every one!

Sorry to hear Bardac_GRRL. Keeping your cousin and friend in my thoughts and prayers.

My name is Holly, I am 37, married, and live in Southwest Georgia.
My mother-in-law Grace just got diagnosed with brain cancer.
It is an aggressive form. She is going to need radiation and possibly chemo.
I know nothing about it, but I am trying to help her as best as I can.
If you have any ideas or know where I research it please let me know.
I hope that the rest of you are doing well. And that you have a blessed weekend.
Your friend in Fitness, Holly emoticon

Hi, I am Christine, and I live in Anchorage Alaska. I've been cancer free since the winter of 2005. I had aggressive breast cancer, which is not why I'm seeking support at this point. My cousin and hero for most of my life, especially in the fight against BC, is losing her fight, and I will probably never see her again. Last September she was still strong and doing great. Now she has retired earlier than planned, is confined to a wheel chair, and has returned to her home town over a thousand miles away. She was too weak the last time she was in Anchorage for visitors.
My heart is breaking.

Hi, I'm Katy and was diagnosed with leukemia (CML) 2 years ago. BOO! Anyhow, I am going strong! I'm 43, feel maybe 21, and am an artist & writer who loves studying everything from math to languages, and I spoil my calico kitten. It makes me happy to find a team for cancer survivors; people who can understand what I'm going through.

Wishing everyone happy holidays!

Helloo Sher,

I know what you mean I hate taking pills as well, being zombie like is definitely not good and wouldn't take it either if it was causing that. Exercise is great at helping with the pain go figure, unfortunately with me it wasn't enough to bring it to a bearable level(without meds) or get rid of the cold feet. I really hope that exercise is all that is needed for you :) Sparkguy is awesome for creating this site he has helped so many people!

I don't belong to a gym at all or I would join your Spark Team.

Best Wishes,

Amy

Hi! I'm Patty and have been a member of SP for over two years now. I am a survivor of cervical cancer. I was diagnosed 15 years ago. My father passed away 26 years ago with liver cancer and my grandmother passed away 25 years ago from breast cancer. So I've seen this wicked disease from both sides now. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who are actively fighting it.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hi Amy, I stopped talking the medicine because it made me feel like a zombie. I am the type that will not take pills unless I have to. Having cancer in the past makes me concerned of what I take.
I don't know if this is in my head or not. But I have been working out only two days now, and last night I had very little pain. I'm wondering if all this sitting and no movement is what's making the nearve damage in my feet and legs hurt more. They did not freeze last night for the first time in 7+ years. I'm thinking that working out is circulating the blood in my feet and legs and are talking away the pain. They hurt horrible when I was working out, but at night they did not freeze or make me cry last night. Hmmmmm, Let's see how it goes. Maybe working out will help me through this. I'll let you know.

This Sparkpeople has helped so many people with so many different problems and concerns.

Hello Sher,

What medication do they have you on and how long have you been taking it? The medication I am on made me really dizzy and nauseous when I started taking it and that has went away about a month and a half of taking it. I'm on Gabapentin and Meloxicam for pain and it doesn't totally get rid of the pain, however, it makes it bearable. I also take Tizanidine(a muscle relaxer) at night. It took the Drs a long time to find meds that worked.

emoticon I'm so sorry and my heart breaks for you being in pain as I can relate to how it feels. I hope you got some sleep in lastnight.

Let me know how the gym went.

Hello Sher,

You can call me Amy :) I had Hodgkins Lymphoma(cancer of the immune system).I'm happy to be alive also! My oncologist believes I had it 6 months before I was diagnosed. I'm so glad that you caught yours early! Yes my feet are always cold my hands also from time to time, hot water makes no difference, heating pad nothing works to warm them up. I have the same the tingling, numbness and extreme pain. I cried in bed every night I still even on medication have really bad flare ups and thre tears are back.
I am on pain management therapy finally only took 14 years for the Drs to finally listen to me that there was something wrong and the therapy is working finally relief after 14 years. Exercise also helps, when I was told that I thought the drs were crazy I really had a hard time walking but it did help lessen the pain after about 3 months of walking. Are you seeing Dr's for the nerve damage at all? I hope you can get on pain management as well. I'm so very sorry to hear about your dad and brother. I lost my grandmother to lung cancer years ago.

Hi AMYCO,

Do your feet freeze even in scalding hot water? I can stand in the shower with my feet in the hottest the water can get and my feet are still freezing. Only at night time. During the day they are so painful, just like mwhen your feet fall asleep and you have those tingles feelings? well tim es that by 100. That's how much they hurt during the day. I can take the pain during the day, but when night times comes, then they frezze so bad all i do is cry myself to sleep. and wake up and have to put my feet in hot water. never helps. But im happy to be alive. I had cancer the same time as my dad and my younger brother. they didnt make it. Mine was caught early enough to be taken care of. what cancer did you have? SHER

Hi, I'm SHER, I am a Lung Cancer Survivor of 7 years and counting. I ended up having 2/3rds of my right lung removed, then the horrible chemo that has left my feet and legs with nerve damage, then the degraing hair loss. I was in college at age 55 when I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I did what I had to do, then I bought cute hats and returned to college and graduated in 2006 as a Registered Medical Assistant. exactly one year after I was diagnosed with lung cancer, in March 2005, my husband was my caregiver and he had a majot heart attack, in March of 2006, and he's a heart attack survivor also. We are both doing great. But I gained alot of weight from chemo and now i have to stop blaming the chemo for my weight gain because that was 7 years ago. It's my eating thats my problem or so called "my control".
So we're all here for the same thing and thats to loose our weight. Nice to be here and nice to meet all of you. Thank you for the invite. SHER emoticon

Hi,
I'm Juli a breast cancer survivor -- with a new clean mammogram last week. I was one of the lucky ones who found it early, had a lumpectomy in 11/10, finished radiation in 1/11 and have been on tamoxifen since 2/11.
This team is great and I hope I can be there to help someone as so many people helped me.

Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably.. And never regret anything that made you smile The best things in life are free.

Thank you for the invite. I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in July 2011. It had metastasized to my lungs and bones. I completed chemo in December 2011. I have to have a zometa infusion every month for the next year and I am on tamoxifen for (according to my doctor) the rest of my life. In August 2012, I had a mastectomy.

Thank you for the invite. I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in June 2012 and another Thyroid cancer in Aug 2012. I am currently preparing for my radiation (RAI) at the beginning of Oct and hopefully after that I can say that I too am cancer free. :)

The stories so far are very inspirational.

Thanks for the invite. It is great to see so many Survivor's celebrating more and more birthdays. My name is Mabel, friends and family call me Moe.

I just hit 10 years as a Survivor. No matter what journey or road God put's in front of me I know that I am able to over come it, learn from it, and grow from it.

I was diagnosed in 2002 with Stage 2 Ovarian Cancer. I was given a year to live by the doctors. As you can see someone had bigger plans for me.

I am excited to be part of your group (family) and be there to support, comfort, motivate, and encourage each one of you.

Hi I'm Mo & I am coming up on 3 year survivor day. Dec will be 3 years. I had inflammatory breast cancer & I had chemo which brought on blod clots & then surgery & radiation & reconstruction & a wound which wouldn't heal & a time with a wound vaccuum. Needless to say it's been QUITE a journey, but I've met the most amazing people along the way!!! I have 3 great kids & an extra kid who I parented for 4 years.

We shall see where this journey takes us from here!

Welcome Poopsie. I am so happy to hear that you and your mom are cancer free! Cancer is a very horrible disease, I hope for a cure in our lifetime. I am grateful for support teams also and the cancer organizations putting together events for us all to come together for a day.No one should be alone fighting this disease outside of the family I was alone for many years.

My grandmother was diagnosed in the last stages of lung cancer, she never smoked a day in her life. 3 weeks after her diagnosis she passed away. It was so hard to be her advocate, her voice (she could barely talk). It was very hard to watch her slip away. My favorite aunt is a 2 year breast cancer survivor she had only surgery also. She said she has allergies to the chemo so that wasn't an option for her. She is also not taking the hormone inhibitor as allergy to that as well. I worry alot about her because of that.

I am so grateful for your support Marj and for starting this team :)

I am a 4 year breast cancer survivor. 4 months after I was diagnosed, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer also. She is older but also has diabetes so her fight was more difficult than mine. We both had mastectomies on the left side. I went through reconstruction but needed no other treatment. The surgery got it all. She had to go through surgery, chemo (which weakened her system and she had to have her leg amputated right below the knee), among other difficulties. I had her live with me for over a year and a half and she is back to living on her own. She is doing well and they find no signs of cancer in her body. She does have to take Tamoxifen. I had testing done for the BRCA gene and it came back negative. The doctor says that it doesn't mean there isn't a gene causing this, just not that one. Now, just in the last couple of weeks, my little sister has been diagnosed with Atypical Hyperplasia which increases her chances of getting breast cancer by 4 times. Cancer is such a terrible disease and I am thankful that there are support teams out there as well as people that just understand what we all are going through. We still need to keep our heads high and help those that do not have as good as an outcome as we have had so far. No one should ever have to be alone in their fight!

I haven't had Cancer but have had family members and friends that have. Some of them are survivors while others fought the big fight but couldn't fight it any longer. So I'm here as a supporter. Just keep thinking positive thoughts even at those most difficult times, fight the fight with all the power that is within you.....YOU CAN WIN THIS!!!
