Donna, my first knee replacement taught me that it is much better to keep exercising up to the day of surgery and that helps recovery a lot. My trainer had me take off several weeks before the first one and it was pretty rough. Good luck! emoticon

I also reached my goal and gained back part of it when I had to quick exercising due to arthritis and bone on bone knees. I'm trying to loose 20 pounds to make my condition better also. Loosing weight will make recovery from knee replacement easier. We can do it together.

I'm glad that this challenge is being repeated since I've missed out on it earlier.

I've been a member of SP for years, but I've been coasting on SP for a while. I lost 20-25 pounds about 5 years ago then gained it back when I had to stop exercising because of knee injuries and arthritis.

I have knee replacement scheduled, but I'm wanting to lose at least 15 pounds before the surgery. I think recovery will be better if there is a little less of me.

I live in SC. I have 4 daughters ages 13-24. I work full time.

I'm glad to see this challenge again. I didn't get to do it last time so I'm on board.

I have to tweek the menu each day but I'm okay so far.

Hi I want to start the challenge today, but I haven't read the book yet. I planned to last week, but I was on my honeymoon and was sick all week. Today is the first day I feel somewhat better. By the time I got through the activities (so as not do disappointment my new husband) all I did was fall asleep. I will skim it today, but is there anything I really need to know to get started?

Hello all!
I'm excited about this process. I got the book earlier this spring, and am ready to incorporate strength training in my exercise (I'm a runner).
I'm also a vegan, so I'm not following the eating plan per se, but am following the calorie count.

I bought the electronic version of the book for my kindle so that I always have it at my finger tips. I am hoping it will be a good 2 weeks.

Hi All... I just bought the new book and I am excited to start the challenge. I have been a member of SparkPeople for a few years off and on. I get very frustrated with myself for not always being on program. Recently, I looked over how far I have come and have been able to keep the weight off... I am proud of myself and know I need to calm down and be patient. Good luck all!!

JULIABOLES, on the main Spark Solution page there is a forum labeled SUMMER CHALLENGE. Under that there are separate threads for each day of the challenge. Tomorrow we check in on Day One. There is also a thread to read before starting the challenge with some helpful tips.

Good luck on day one and beyond everyone. I'm looking forward to spending the next two weeks with all of you and getting healthy and fit together.

Hi everyone! I'm excited to give this challenge a go. I've made a few swaps with the meals (my household only has 2 people, so a dish that has 4 serves will last us twice as long). I'll still be within the 1500 calorie range, and it will give me more time to focus on my exercise on the days i don't have to cook

Hi Everyone....my name is Mary Anne and I am not new to Sparkpeople but I am new to the message boards and challenges. I decided to read the book and take part in the challenge. I have been pretty busy with school and work but just finished for the summer so time to get going. I know I have to schedule time for exercise and food planning and prep. I know I can be successful if I do these things and hold myself accountable. Small steps each day. Looking forward to the journey and challenge with you all! emoticon

Hi everyone!
My name is Kerrie and I just got the book today after I saw the challenge on the start page. I figured it would be a great place to start getting back on track.
God knows I have started and stopped many a times to be a better me. For a while, I was successful. Co-workers would say how much weight I was losing and that I made it look simple. I was doing everything properly: eating the good stuff to fuel my body, worked out everyday (cardio one day, strength the next), sleeping the full 8 hours, etc... All within the first 2 weeks. Then my depression reared its ugly head. All the work I had done went out the window! I was so disappointed that I couldn't get back on track and I tried many times. I need something to kick start everything; keep me focused.
The hope, and the plan, is to follow the 2 week diet program and actually participate in a forum for once (so if I screw up somewhere in the forum... cut me some slack, I'm a newb).

Keep me accountable folks and I'll do the same for you. emoticon

Thanks for future help,

Kerrie

Hi, I'm Julie. I have done a similar program with a study through Childrens Hospital Research with my 10 year old son and was very successful with it. I had a friend recently tell me about the Body for Life book and after reading that and then Spark Solutions, I found they are extremely similar. I'm excited to have a detailed plan of what to do each day. My son's doctor has given him 3 months to show weight loss before he does metabolic testing on him. I'm going to try to do this with him but gear his down to a 10 year old level. I would love any suggestions! Through the research his calorie goals were 1000 to 1200. Let me know if anyone else has tried weight loss with kids at a different calorie range.

Hi, I'm Suby. I was actually way too skinny as a kid, almost developing anorexia when I was 16, so watching what I ate was never a problem, and the weight just started sneaking up on me in my 30s.
I don't know what my highest weight was (I boycotted scales during that time), but I'm guessing at least 230. I did lose some weight, but things did not start rolling until I got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at 39.
The diabetes had been triggered by a medication I had been taking for my asthma attacks - rare side effect, and it got me. Eating fast food, hating exercise and a previously unknown family history of diabetes certainly didn't help.
I started slow, cutting out the obvious first (anything with too much sugar in it, mainly soft drinks), then starting to learn more about diabetes and nutrition. I found SparkPeople on the internet, and last November, I started tracking my food and exercise. Since then, I've lost a net of 16 pounds, bringing me down to 190. I need to lose 20 more to get to my target weight, and I'm hoping that will significantly reduce the amount of diabetes meds I have to take.
I'm a teacher, and the time between spring break and summer is notoriously stressful, plus I had lots of migraines, so I did not use SP that often and just tried to eat more or less healthy. I only gained a pound or two back, so I'm pretty happy that at least I'm holding steady.
Now I'm on summer break, and I don't have to work the next few weeks, so I'll have time for the Challenge. I already established many healthy habits, but I'm hoping to strengthen them and create some more. I probably won't follow the meal plan or exercise to the letter, but I'll replace it with something equivalent or even better.
I'm really looking forward to this!

They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Hi, I'm Marcy. I have had my Spark Solution since it came out, but life caught up with me and I was too busy to read it, let alone follow it. So when this challenge came I jumped at the chance to finally pick it up and start. I joined our local fitness center Thursday - so I am ready. I already went shopping, and found I have the majority of the veggies growing in my garden.
Looking forward to meeting everyone as much as possible.

Hi, I'm Tee, a 64 year old wife, mother, grandmother. I've had the Spark Solution for a few weeks now and I love it. I took part in the first challenge and I've been sort of following the plan for the past few weeks but I'm ready to start with emoticon again. Today I will decide on my meal plans for the next week and write up my grocery list. First thing tomorrow morning we will go to town to get groceries so I can do some pre-week prepping tomorrow afternoon. Good luck to everyone.

Hi all! I'm Shelly - very busy Momma here. I've lost a bit of weight with Sparkpeople, in fits and starts over the past year or so. My issue is developing consistency in my chaotic, keep me on my toes with changes (both welcome and not) life. I know that if I can develop consistency, instead of doing great for a couple of days, falling off the wagon for a few, then struggling to climb back on, things will be AWESOME. I'm ready! Reading the Spark Solution this weekend and will be ready to hit the ground running on Monday.

My name is Allie, and I am very excited to be a part of this challenge. I feel like I have been stuck and feel like this challenge is exactly what I need. I have had the book on my kindle since it came out but haven't had the opportunity due to illness to follow through with the plan. I really want this. My health is really deteriorating and I know it is my not so healthy choices that strongly contribute. I'm so happy to be here and look forward to this. :) Nice to meet everyone. emoticon

Hi all, my name is Jane and I just love SparkPeople. In 2011/2012 I lost 90 pounds with the help of Spark. In October of 2012 at the young age of 51 I had a complete hip replacement. During my recovery and then the holidays I gained back 20 pounds. Iíve been struggling ever since to get back on track. I pre ordered the Spark Solution and with the help of the summer challenge hope that this is what I need to get myself back to losing weight. I have made so many healthy changes in my life over the last couple of years. I donít eat packaged or highly processed foods at all anymore. The weight Iíve gained back has been with healthy whole foods, just too much. This is not a diet or a quick fix, but a healthy lifestyle journey! WooHoo to an exciting summer challenge!!

Make everyday count!
Hugs,
Jane

I am looking to find my motivation....again! I lost 50 lbs two years ago and did really well until about two months ago when I went on vacation and ate everything that I wanted......when I returned to work and my normal routine I have found it hard to get back into "healthy eating" and portion control. I have gained 17 lbs back and I keep asking myself, "What is going on?" I am reading the book this weekend and hope to recommit myself to a healthy lifestyle. I like the small goals as I really feel that I can do this for two weeks and learn some new skills to carry me forward.

I've been on Spark for a long time... some success at first just tracking my food and keeping to the recommended calories.
Never made a great effort with exercise.... so I am hoping being committed to the recommendations in the book will improve my efforts there.
I have thyroid issues that make it challenging... but should not be impossible.
I'm hoping that the accountability to this group will keep me focused and I will find enough success also to help motivate me to continue.

I'm hoping also to find some friends to really keep me accountable.

I'm excited and hopeful - two things I have not been in a while.

HI! The Spark Solution is just what I need to jump start my comeback! The structure and food plan will be very helpful and I love that you've integrated the recipes into my food planner - that will make it so easy! I have just needed to have a week to begin where I wasn't so crazy with work and kids, so I could focus on cooking, exercising and staying motivated. Having another challenge beginning next week is perfect for me. I now have my FitBit Flex to monitor my activity more accurately (along with my sleep! - not getting as much as a thought!) and with the tools you have provided, I should be go to go! Let's home my boys like some of these recipes as well! LOL

Hi all! I'm a newbie here although I've had the Spark Solution for a week or two. It arrived just before I was due to go away on a working trip and they are the worst, as far as I'm concerned. SO hard to stay on track with all that hotel food and all that socialising. So I took it with me and read it through. NEAT was the first thing that inspired me - can be practised even on work trips! Then sorted out some exercise regimes based on my own favourites and the workout in the book and some meal plans too - with the intention of starting out when I got home this week. So imagine my delight when I saw that a challenge is starting next Monday. Great! I already prepared and can start when you all do. Seeya then! emoticon

Way to go! That's awesome! You are an inspiration. Tell me, did you face any particular challenges and how did you overcome them?

I think The Spark Solution is a wonderFULL book! I am working on my eighth week of changing my fitness and exercise, reading The Spark and The Spark Solution, and working daily on SparkCoach (I loved my free intro to it after buying The Spark Solution and got a year subscription). I am very excited about the SUMMER CHALLENGE! I've already lost 9 pounds in seven weeks, but more importantly in the long run is the fitness levels I'm rapidly achieving. Today I worked out for an hour on the elliptical (at ever increasing levels), followed by 20 minutes on the rowing machine, then stretching. It felt awesome! The Summer Challenge is coming at the perfect time for me!

A job begun is half done.
