Hi Everyone!! Sandi from Cape Cod here. I have been on Whole 30 since last April 23rd. I did one round of 60 days 100% compliant and have been 80/20 since. I am down 32 pounds. I just began a new round on the 15th. I love this lifestyle, it works well for me. I am still wanting to lose about 50 pounds and although it is SLOW, it is STAYING OFF which is very different from other programs I have been on! I also have Type II diabetes and my blood sugars couldn't be better! Hoping to get new ideas, support and recipes here.

Hi everyone!! Nikki here in Houston, TX! Have about 33 lbs left to lose on my spark journey. Started Whole 30 because of some chronic joint issues that I suspect are linked to inflamation. I am now almost done with my first round, Day 29 to be exact! Guess I'm planning on a slow reintro. Anyone done a round and reintro? Any tips??

I accidentally started W30 when I joined a menu club (Platejoy). I have been on it for 4 days. Loving every meal. It is the kind of food I really like, easy to prepare, and I feel great. Decided to join this team for extra info and support.

Hi. Im on my 3rd W30. Day 4. Think it's easier than the last one, in October, which i gave up on. Had a really good W30 in June 2016, now looking forward to more progress.

Hi! Jill here. Doing my first Whole30. On Day 9 and not doing too badly. I still deal with some snack cravings, mostly sweet. I have a wicked sweet tooth. The thing I mainly want to get out of this is a reset of my body's metabolism and a knowledge of how different types of food affect me. Any weight loss is a bonus (and I do need to lose some weight!) but not my main focus. Lots of self-awareness and introspection.

Hello Fellow Whole30 people,

My name is Elaine. I am a grandmother of 3 and one on the way! I have been struggling with my weight all my life. I have been on every diet known to man.I have lost 60 pounds twice in my life but always gained it back. I have just burnt out on dieting. I work out a lot, I eat healthy. but nothing would budge. until Whole30. I have Arthritis, high blood pressure ,I had a heart attack last March (small one). I found Whole30 in a Womens World Magazine. I did my first round november 13th -December13th. I felt amazing! my pain level went way way down, I felt clearer in my head than I have in years, I had my energy back and slept like a baby too! I lost inches in places I never thought I would again. and I lost 16 pounds in 30 days. the last two weeks of December were really hard as we lost a family member to suicide and had some additional financial issues too. along with the Holidays just being hard. I started round 2 yesterday! 2017 is going to be the best year ever!!
We can do this!
Elaine

Hello,

My name is Sherrie and I am starting my second Whole 30 today. Black coffee is not hard. Black coffee is not hard.

I did a Whole 30 in July. but since then life has intervened. I knew I wanted to do this, but I'm a little intimidated by a work conference next week and a retreat.at the end of the month. I have decided.to soldier through.

Debbie (DSLONE68),
there are some major stressors in life, death and moving are two major ones, and you've done that. My sympathies on the loss of your husband, and Alzheimers itself is a slow and gradual loss too. Wow.

I too have an autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis, and type-2 diabetes probably cause by medication for ulcerative colitis. The medication that I took type-2 diabetes slowly degraded my memory. I didn't know that at the time. But here is what I have to say ... despite all the difficulties one has to "seize the day" as the Roman poet Horace wrote. Take each day and make something of it, for life itself is a gift.

I understand the vending machine junk issue. There is an idea by Joel Fuhrman, who wrote "Eat to Live" and though he is a vegetarian, and I am not, I must say that he has got me to think about "empty" calories. Specifically to pack the most nutrition per calorie eaten, and to think about what nutrients I need.

I used to just eat. Now I eat with a purpose, and I cut empty calories.

I'm here almost everyday ... well it might happen once a week or so. But I'm here for you.

Hello! My name is Debbie from NC. I am a widow of 4 years. In those past 4 years, besides grieving: I moved 3 times, the last move was a major downsize when I rented a room, went to CNA school worked part-time at a independent living facility and the full-time as a CNA at a retirement community. I took care of my early on set Alzheimers husband, for 7 years. Now I am caring for 2 Alzheimers men, working 12 straight days, before I get 2 days off. I only get 4 days off a month. I am not use to this. I just asked to work 43 hours instead of 46 hours a week. The fact that I can do this is a miracle, since I gave an autoimmune disease. All the break rooms have vending machines of junk food. Between that and my stress level, I need some major support to help me do this, and improve my health! Thanks for letting me join!

emoticon emoticon Lainey! emoticon on deciding to do a W30! With your busy life, I'm sure you must automize most of your current meal choices anyway, but definitely while on a W30, I found it easier to prep my meals in advance and batch cook on the days when I had more free time. Being able to grab and go was a huge help. Simplify wherever and whenever you can. Did you sign up for the W30 daily emails? I loved them! And even now, still refer back to them sometimes. My last recommendation would be to write down your "why" and keep it someplace you can see it often. Depending on your current dietary starting point, the change can be dramatic, but it's definitely worth it. Life is busy, so I typically don't spend a lot of time on SP, but if you need support, I'm always just a team post away. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Team Whole30,

I am starting tomorrow. Which is a Friday but I work just about 7 days a week and even though I do eat more fatty foods on the week-ends ,starting on a Friday keeps me on track better. I have been reading up on Whole30,watching a lot of videos on utube. Yesterday I cleaned my house and fridge out of everything that had the not allowed in them. I am going to give myself some cheese and bread today.and then tomorrow is ON !

Hope to see some interaction on this site !

Another hello from me, Meg.

RYDERB is so right when she says insulin is the key. I'm a low carb guy, not a Whole30 guy, but there is plenty of overlap.

Hi Meg! Welcome to the team! Your posts should fit into your life. Definitely no pressure.

The June challenge is about bringing your best effort to each new day. You get to define your best. emoticon
A Whole30 is a 30 day reset for your body. No grains, legumes, corn, soy, dairy, sweeteners of any kind, alcohol, no chemicals, I feel like I've forgotten things. emoticon At the end of the 30 days, you gradually reintroduce the substances and foods you eliminated one at a time and wait to see how your body reacts. When you're done you'll know which foods cause problems for your health.

Sugar is as addictive as heroine so you definitely aren't alone in your struggles. emoticon The good news is that you know when the cravings are the strongest and you can keep trying new strategies until you find the one that works for you. emoticon
Insulin control is the key to fat loss and eating foods that cause a lower insulin response will help your blood pressure too. Cutting out sweeteners and processed foods and grains will help starve your candida overgrowth. You could also try drinking a cup of water with a tsp of Bragg's Apple Cider vinegar or if another brand you like as long as it contains the mother. Bragg's is the only brand that I can find that does.

Don't forget sleep is important too. emoticon

Hi, Kinda new to the team-- although I joined a while back I was never really active. I've read up on the whole30 (but could use a refresher) and it sounds like just what I need to do to get my weight and BP down.

My biggest challenge is craving sugar especially at night! I can do fine all day eat healthy stay active but come evening and an overwhelming urge to eat sweets attacks me.

I've tried "waiting and the craving will go away" it doesnt.

Eating fruit- that helps but it will return.

I live in a place where I can't just go out for a walk in the evening (too wooded, too many mosquitoes, )

What has seemed to help is a certain probiotic (expensive) which has strains to combat yeast overgrowth. So need to purchase more of this stuff.

But if this is true (yeast overgrowth problem) than wouldn't a strictly healthy food plan (Whole30) help that go away? I'm hoping so..

the probiotics are on the way

I plan on berries for / if the cravings happen

and reading a lot of what you folks have tried and glean some Whole30 wisdom

I'm glad to be here... hope you all don't mind if my posts are hit and miss... sometimes life gets too busy to post.... but I'll be back

Meg emoticon

WINCHERYL, I don't think that eating health is a penalty. It's eating excess sugar and processed foods that is not good for you that is the penalty in the long run.

Taste preferences change after a month or so. There are many things that just taste bad to me now, and plenty of vegetables and salads that taste wonderful.

INTROVERTED1,

I'm a type-2 diabetic myself, and I'm lucky that by avoiding all excessive carbs, that at around 30 grams a day my blood sugar is under control medication free. But as a type-1, with no insulin of you own how do you manage your blood sugar? Would low carb help much?

Please make sure you let your doctor know what you are doing with your diet change. Just to make sure! I would also recommend you test your blood sugar a bit more often than you normally would. I went through the cravings pretty bad too. I even imagined myself sneaking to the store, to eat a piece of cake, without letting my husband know. One thing I found has worked really well to get through cravings is to stand in the kitchen and drink a bottle of cold water, and then go for a brisk 5 minute walk through our property. Also, I've started including lots of fruits in my breakfasts, which seem to help. Do you like oranges? They have bags of the small cutie oranges at the super markets - and those are really sweet, and could be a good choice for satisfying a craving. I have a pretty bad sweet tooth. I could sit down and eat a whole box of Mike n Ike's, a chocolate bar, drink a bottle of chocolate milk and still want more!

Even a tiny success is a good success. Never give up!

Hello,

I just started the Whole30 yesterday and so far so good. However, I am already finding myself craving certain "no" foods. I think this will be good for me. As a Type 1 Diabetic I find myself eating way too much sugar (probably more than 95% of non diabetics). I'm going somewhat against the grain and doing this and hoping to end up with more of a paleo diet after finishing. I think/hope that this team will aid in my success and that I can help others to stay on track as well.

Hello,

I've posted a few times but just found this thread active. I'm on Day 3. Doing well so far. I love sweets and can't pass up a cookie within reach. I've been working the last year or so to reduce my sugar and by my standards have done well. I don't crave sweets but just can't pass them up if they are available! Even surviving without ketchup, syrup and jelly. Although, I'll miss my convenience of the lunch time pb&j!

I've felt "hungry" since starting (even immediately after a meal) but my tummy never grumbles so I'm not feeling the need to stuff myself. My meals seem to take a long time to eat and I don't want to eat all day long just to not feel hungry! lol I've learned that I do better with weight loss if I feel this hunger between meals. But I am not having the feeling of my energy coming and going - that has remained constant so far.

Tomorrow will be a good test, going back to work after a few days off. I use to have a big smoothie for breakfast and drink it on the way to work. It was fruit, a lot of fresh spinach, a scoop of protein powder (a lower calorie brand not the kind weightlifter types usually eat) and some water to help it blend.

Lunches won't change a whole lot. Just no ketchup on my meat. I learned years ago not to eat much if any heavy carbs. They gave me the "sleepies" come 3pm! I just have protein and lots of veggies most of the time.

Dinner will be refined but for the most part no big changes there. I have to pass on my glass of milk and not beans or chips before I eat.

Looking forward to learning more about how the foods I eat affect my body in the coming weeks and learning more about food, prep and getting ideas with Whole30!

Wishing everyone here much success on your plan!

Hi all - I am inching towards paleo to set myself up for success with a full Whole30 elimination diet to start Feb 1. I have begun to clean out the kitchen and will whittle my sugar consumption to zero over the next 3 weeks. I already have food allergies to legumes (inc soy and peanuts) and tree nuts and am nervous to discover new ones, even though I know that it is better to know than not to know. Let the journey begin!

Hi! We started our whole 30 on the first, like many others. We've followed an 80/20 Paleo diet for over a year now, but we're finding that allowing "cheats" turns into too many. I personally am doing the whole 30 for the main purpose of finding out what my favorite foods really do to my body. I'm looking forward to the re introductory stage - so I can see how my body really handles things like cheese and crackers - which is my favorite. I already know milk causes instant bloat and gas -

Good luck and welcome!

Hi everyone, I'm Alex! I hope this is the intro thread emoticon

Starting Whole 30 (though trying to make it a Whole Lifetime emoticon ), looking forward to making some new friends and feeling more comfortable in my skin! I love researching all the benefits of eating clean - give it a try if you are losing motivation. Clearer skin anyone? Also, I LOVE that it is January because we all have so much time to prepare for showing off beautiful arms and legs in summer dresses! Embrace this month!

As I am right now at this very moment, I choose to be happy and love myself and live life!

Yes, starting on the first. Actually we prepped the kitchen Monday and have chosen W30 approved meals since then, but our official day is the 1st. We are at the in laws for new year eve which includes lots of tempting food and drink.

I joined a week or so ago, but this is my first post on this team.

I'm a low-carb person which has quite a bit of overlap with the Whole30 program. I've been avoiding things with excessive carbs (sugar, wheat, rice ... and the list goes on) for a few years now.

I'm hoping to pick up some new ideas here, and be a contributor as well. My background is in the sciences, so I'm big on numbers, like calories, grams of protein, fat, and so on. Oh I should add that I'm a type-2 diabetic, so I have personal reasons for avoiding carbs as they turn into blood sugar all too easily.

Hello everyone

I am new to the group here is something about me. I am 53 years old and in 2005 I weighed my most of 300 pounds. I then decided to start Biggest Loser Club and I lost 145 pounds. Once I started menopause I started to put on weight so over the last 2 years I put on 50 pounds. I have tried several different plans. Which have worked for awhile but then I fall off the wagon. I have arthritis and I have been put back on some meds and I am still have some pain. So before I am put on more meds I would like to try to manage it with food. I saw someone on this site starting a whole 30 on Oct 1 so I think I am going to try. And It is really nice to see a support group out here. Thanks for accepting my invitiation

Michele, I never went beyond 30 days - my glass of wine was calling my name. I also never lost a lot of weight, but didn't have all that much to lose.
I do, however, stick pretty much with Whole30 most of the time, which has become fairly easy to do.

Hello! My name is Michelle, I'm 49 and from Wisconsin. I'm new to this team but not new to SP. I just started my first Whole30 on Sept. 1 after my sister did one in Aug and lost 23 pounds. So far, I've lost 10 pounds in 22 days, I feel better, sleep better, and my clothes are starting to feel a little bit loose...so I'm happy! If things are still going as well as they are now, I may extend my 30 into a 60. Has anyone else here done that? did you you feel there were any additional benefits from doing a 60, or was it just a continuance of the benefits of the first 30? Thanks!

Hello everyone! I am starting my first Whole30 on Sunday (9/20). My husband will also be participating. I am reading It Starts With Food now, and truthfully the info in there scares me. I *knew* the science, but having it spelled out in black-and-white really opened my eyes to how I have been influenced by the food industry and my "healthy" choices aren't as healthy as I thought. I am looking forward to resetting my system, breaking the cycle of food/sugar addiction, and then adding back in wholesome foods that nourish me.

Hi, all! I am starting my first round of Whole 30 on Thursday (the 22nd)! I have a coworker who is planning on doing it with me, so I'm hoping we can help motivate one another. I'm pretty nervous, actually... I tend to be a chronic "starter" of plans and never make it very far. I really believe in the program though, so hopefully that will help. Plus, I bought myself a new pan to cook in to help motivate me. I am glad that you can make a lot of compliant recipes without requiring a million dishes (especially since it's not a smoothie or juice based program- cleaning blenders and juicers is the worst!). I'm also documenting my month on instagram @itsanewdayeveryday Feel free to follow! :)

Hello. I'm doing Whole30 again starting today. Last time I made it to Day 24 and honestly just felt so depressed by lack of food choices, and the total lack of joy in eating, I threw in the towel. Trying again because back when I did a similar reset in 2012, I got down to 138lbs, then once I started eating "normal" again (mostly Paleo for me) I leveled out around 145. I was a comfortable size 8, and just felt good. Now? My sugar addiction has taken control once again, I'm at least 20 lbs more, and I just don't feel good. I'm back to avoiding mirrors and picture taking. My clothes fit tight or not at all. My joints hurt, I'm foggy & fatigued. I just want to feel healthy again.

Hello,

I ordered my whole30 books yesterday. I have been on the omnitrition program since January and I have lost 50 pounds! Lately I have not been following protocol and I think I am just board and tired of the food restrictions. I know there are still restrictions with Whole 30 but there is a lot more variety!

Welcome. Sounds like you've had a rough month so far. Good for you for being so prepared. I'm sort of winging my first couple days. I did grocery shop today and plan to do a lot of food prep over the next couple days.

Hi I'm Liz. Started June 2nd - lasted one week fell off and was hit with the flu. Have spent the last week recuperating. It aggravated my asthma and am now dealing with that. BUT restarted yesterday. Precooked a couple of recipes that should see me through a few days. Feeling good this morning. In anticipation of a long work day packed 3 meals. Day 2 here we go.

Hi! I'm June and I'm beginning my 2nd Whole 30 tomorrow, Thursday, May 7th. I've read, "It Starts with Food" and I bought "Whole 30". I know this is the best food plan for me. My inflammation goes after just a few days, my sinuses clear up, and my eczema and skin clears up. It's just hard the first few weeks. I'm glad I found this group. We can do this!

Welcome to the team! With an expert best friend and boy friend doing it with you. I know you'll do great.

I'll be suffering with you. I'm doing a W30 now. Sugar cravings are the hardest thing for me, no matter how many W30s I do.

Hi. I just joined and am about to start my first whole30 this coming Sunday. Actually, my boyfriend and I are going to do it together, but I expect to have the hardest time getting through the first weeks.

My best friend has done it twice in the last 9 months, and did really well. I hope to as well. I will be looking for good ideas and recipes. :)

Congratulations on jumping in without hesitation. emoticon The first time around the scale thing was hard for me too, but now it's lost all its power. emoticon Most people lose a lot of weight doing their first W30, but it really is about discovering how great you can feel. Food prep does get easier, so hang in there.

Hi all! My name is Ericka and my sensei in karate recommended this plan to me so I thought I'd give it a go. I bought the book and it all seemed to make sense so I started it quite quickly after (he recommended it on the Wednesday, I bought the book from amazon that night and read it as soon as it came--finishing it on Saturday and then starting the plan on Sunday) so the food prep thing is kind of hard right now since I've been just prepping meal by meal with some leftovers that I use for other meals. I'm loving it so far. I was originally concerned about energy levels for exercise--even though I've read most people are fine without the extra carbs--and felt great this morning during my kickboxing class. I was pretty surprised since I also have been doing the Jillian Michaels Body Revolution dvd's MTRF and had my 30 minute strength in already before the class. Looking forward to results. I've already cheated on that part and peeked at my weight yesterday. So far that's been the hardest part for me, but I'm only on day 6. I'd been eating pretty clean but sugar was definitely not completely gone from my diet so it'll be nice to get that under control.

Hi all!
I will be starting Day 1 of Whole30 on Mon 2/23. I ordered "It Starts With Food" and it should be on my doorstep tomorrow. I've been reading and researching as much as I can so I will be prepared. Have been collecting menu ideas so I'm always ready for my next meal. For me, I think that will be vital to my success.

I will be honest and say this scares me but that is totally why I'm doing it. I do want to lose weight and inches in the 30 days but mentally, I want to be able to say I DID IT.

Am looking forward to posting, sharing and learning from all of you. Thanks!

Day 17 and still doing okay. I even managed to avoid being bad for my birthday. Started adding tomatoes and spinach to my eggs. I also cooked zucchini, sweet potatoes, spinach, and had that for lunch yesterday. Still working on drinking enough water. I got a pitcher that has a rod in the middle to put fruits in to flavor water for my birthday and that is helping a lot. Keep at it everyone.

What great ideas Firetruckmama. I eat a lot, and I mean a LOT, of sweet potatoes. I never liked them much before Whole30, but now love them. They are also very helpful for adding carbs I need for the energy/fuel. I lover salads, but hate making them. I do, but I still hate it. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Bonnie - I also don't eat many vegetables (for instance, cauliflower tastes like mouldy chalk to me), but thankfully W30 allows potatoes. I had a number of potatoes during my January W30. My local grocery store had some pre-packaged cut up veges that I really liked (diced sweet potatoes, turnips, onions, and potatoes) - just added some oil to cover the veges along with some rosemary & thyme and roasted them for 45 minutes. I have read that people became creative with vegetables - adding them to breakfast (tomatoes with eggs) or leftovers to soup broth (precooked mushrooms with celery, carrots, and spinach). I also found a non-sugar added brand of hash browns - also had peppers & onions in it - which I used for quick dinners.

Hello everyone, glad to see a group for Whole 30. I am on day 14. I have a co-worker who got me started, I bought the book and away I went!! I am feeling good, the headache from caffeine withdrawl was short, thankfully and I am feeling a little more energetic. I just need to get exercising.. Any ideas for veggies. I am a horrible veggie eater.... raw carrots, tomatoes, lettuce cauliflour, and broccoli and green beans is about all I like. I have bought some spinach but other than that...... Meat I am good with....... any ideas will be appreciated. Good luck everyone.

Maybe I do my Whole30 wrong, because I don't think of it as an increase of meat. I've always tried to have protein with each meal, but now I care about how it's cooked. BUT. I definitely feel like my sweat smells funky the first 10 -ish days of a new W30. Maybe it's because I'm eating more veggies or maybe it's my body detoxing. Thank goodness that's behind me now.

Good luck with your W30! emoticon

Hi Joyce! emoticon emoticon to the team! I hope reading It Starts With Food, leaves you feeling as motivated as it left me. emoticon I stopped by your page, and I love your background message.

When you say it's a really different, does that mean that you haven't looked into Paleo, Primal, or other whole food meal plans before? Do you mostly eat out? There was a time, that my husband could have used our oven to hide things from me, because the only thing I knew how to make was a reservation. emoticon
My advice would be to focus on the approved foods list. Pick all your favorite foods that are on that list, and build meals around them. It might take some time to break out of the traditional breakfast box, and start thinking of it as meal 1. Once you do, you'll be able to enjoy a larger variety of food first thing in the morning. A lot people end up in an egg rut.

If you've never looked into the Paleo or Primal lifestyle you could start transitioning slowing by incorporating paleo/primal meals while you're reading the book. Here's a link to Nom Nom Paleo's 30 days of whole30 recipes nomnompaleo.com/post/42057515329/the

I also really like Melissa Joulwan's The Clothes Make the Girl theclothesmakethegirl.com/ I have both her Well Fed cook books and I can honestly say that even if the recipe is for something I didn't think I'd ever want to eat, like chicken livers, it ends up tasting yummy. My non-paleo family members have begged me the recipe for "my" (her) chocolate chili and best chicken ever. Another favorite not necessary for meal planning but just primal living is Mark's Daily Apple www.marksdailyapple.com/#axzz3KqTRc3

Hi Joyce! It may be different from what you normally do, but it's actually very easy. Just take it one day at a time, and let yourself enjoy the healthy foods you are eating.

Hi, my name is Joyce. I am reading It Starts with Food right now and am planning to do a Whole 30 in early Jan 2015. Just trying to plan, get meal ideas.... I really want to be successful.. But it is really a different way of eating for me.

Hi Everyone,

I live in Israel so some of the items that make it easier can't be had. Still after 7 compliant days- I feel better than I have in years. I entertain a lot and cater and still, I was able to keep my promise to myself. emoticon

emoticon Diana! Sorry it took me so long to notice your post. Life has been crazy! How've you've been doing? Are you still having issues giving up certain foods? Even though the goal is 100% compliance for 30 days, you'll still see health improvements by giving up any of the less healthy substances for 30 days, especially grains and sugar. My first whole30 I missed cream in my coffee too, but now I don't like the taste of regular dairy products. I use (and now like the taste of) canned coconut milk in my coffee, or I drink Bulletproof coffee, (coffee with MCT oil & Ghee or unsalted Kerrygold grassfed butter when not doing a w30.)
