It's Lisa again,

I'm scared to try the DVD: 5 Day Slim Down. Today, my Mother and I went out grocery shopping. Remember, I'm slowly cutting away the "bad foods" but, in moderation, I won't deny myself anything(now I'm beginning to sound like a hypocrite). Anywho....

I picked up Healthy foods instead of my usual junk food. My Mom thought I went crazy or something lol lol. I told her and our family that I would like to eat healthier. So, as a start, this is what I picked up, I have a Food Budget I'm allowed every month. In addition to the Canned Tomatoes, Jars of Pasta Sauce, Whole Grain Pasta, and Frozen Veggies(Broccoli, Mixed Veggies)I already have in Pantry(for nearly 3 Months), I purchased the following...

~4 Bags of Shredded Lettuce
~1 Bag of Baby Carrots
~A Container of Cherry Tomatoes
~Bananas
~Oranges
~1 Package of Chicken Breast
~2 Boxes of Granola Bars(Chewy)
~1 large Container of Vanilla Yogurt
~1 Bag of Gold Fish Crackers
~Small Bottle of Honey Mustard Salad Dressing
~Wishbone Salad Spritzers(Which I LOVE)
~Oatmeal
~Raisins
~Brown Sugar
~Eggs

That should hold for about 2 Wks. I believe. Now I know I picked up a few extra items(GoldFish Crackers, 2 Boxes of Granola Bars) but those are what I consider "Healthy Treats" but only in moderation. For example 1 Granola Bar Everyday or Every Other day. GoldFish Crackers every other day.
Did I do okay picking the right items? I also have some cans of Beans that been in Pantry for a while, brown rice, and vegetable broth. What can I make with all that including the canned tomatoes and frozen vegetables?

I don't eat much meat as it is. Just Chicken every once in a while. I have 4 small chicken breasts in a package that I just put in the freezer, they should be in the fridge if I know I'm going to cook them soon. I'm going to boil them. Is that Okay?

I apologize for such a long note. To me, the things I've picked up today are what I consider Healthy. Like I said before, it should last me for about 2 wks, 2 and a half. I have no way back to grocery store no time soon.

Thanks Guys,
~Lisa

I have been using Leslie's watp off and on for years. Love the tapes! They're so easy to do. Am currently doing the 2 mile Slim, Shape and Sculpt series. My 21 year old daughter has even started doing them. I feel like I get a better workout from her dvd's than my treadmill gives me.

Oops! I forgot to add that my name is Reagan and I'm 46, have 6 kids and this is the first time I've posted on here.

For Breakfast, I usually eat cereal, a bagel with peanut butter or sometimes oatmeal with toast (bcuz I can't stand it plain) or I like Kashi Go Lean Bars also.
For snacks, I eat Special K crackers. I also like to have gardettos (1/4 cup serving).
For Lunch soup in chillier weather or sandwiches with meat, lettuce maybe tomato.

Suppers, I make meat and vegy and maybe do bread and butter.
I do love chocolate though so I really have to guard myself not to overdo, but I won't stop myself from enjoying some or else I will binge terribly!!!

Thank You all so much for the advice. I know this is going to be one amazing team. CHICKFORCHRIST, I watched Leslie's 5 Day Slim Down DVD yesterday, I have to say, her moves are very basic. And anyone can do them. What puzzles me were those Squats and Lunges. Last time I done those, I was around 9 or 10 years old in gym class. Being over 300lbs, I'm not sure if I can do them. I praticed lunges and squats this morning, it took my breath. You need balance to do those! lol

~Lisa

PS, What are your favorite Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks to make? I'm so confused when it comes to healthy eating. And being in College just makes it even more difficult. I still live at home with my parents. HELP ME! emoticon

I'm new to the team, but have been walking with Leslie for about two years (minus a couple of months when I broke my ankle on a side step - only because I was grumbling and not wanting to do my walk and didn't pick up my feet!).

I live in northern New Jersey, and started with Leslie at one mile, now doing 4 Mile Super Walk with bands M-W-F, 5 Fat Burning Miles (not always all 5!) T-Th, and Big Burn on Sunday. I've just passed my 60 birthday, and this time I'm going to change my lifestyle, not just lose weight. Who would have believed that I would ever look forward to exercise? But I do, especially the Super Walk.

Glad to join the Walk at Home fans and other walkers!

Hi, Lisa!

Congratulations on deciding to start walking. I encourage you to start simple. A good pair of walking shoes, some cool/loose clothing that you can move in easily (don't have to buy special work out clothes, but do invest in a good sports bra), and you're ready to go. Drink 8 - 12 oz. of water before you walk and have plenty of water handy when walking.

Start with one mile. Do that for a week or two or even a month. Don't rush yourself, but when you feel ready to add on, go ahead and try two miles. Alternate one mile on one day and two miles on the next day for a week or two or four. When you're ready, go up to two miles per day.

Continue adding distance like that. Be sure to give yourself AT LEAST one or two days of "planned rest" per week (no walks or only one mile).

Of course, I agree with Brandy to check first with your doctor to be sure you're ready for fitness walking. I would add that many doctors just look at the DVD box and assume these workouts are "sissy stuff." If you can get your doc to preview the workout (look at YouTube for Leslie's walks on there), that would give your doc a better idea of the workout.

Have fun and walk, walk, walk!

~Jennie ~

Hi Lisa!! Welcome to the team!!
The first place to start is to pop those puppies open and watch them.
I would start with the 5 Day Slim Down like you suggested. Be sure to eat before you work out but if you're like me, a banana or a piece of toast is enough before because I feel sick when I eat too much and then exercise.
I would start with one mile and increase as you feel you are ready to.
Wear clothes that you can move easily in and that are comfortable. Leslie suggests wearing shoes that are not cheap. You need to replace them at least once a year. I use Nike and some others use New Balance and Sketchers (just to name a few).

Finally, you will definitely lose weight doing Walk Away the Pounds!!!!
Leslie's workouts are easy to do. They always show a lower intensity so you can follow at your own pace. But don't be afraid to push yourself if you feel you can. Before you start doing any of it, make sure to ask your doctor what they think. Always checking with your doctor first is the best decision. If you don't, you risk doing something you shouldn't.
I hope this helps!!

Hi Everyone!

I'm Lisa and I'm new to both the team and Leslie Sansone. I've heard of Leslie years ago, I just never invested in a DVD until now. Being 320lbs, and 20 y/o, my weight never really bothered me until just last year. I would like to have confidence in myself, gain energy and stamina. I want my swollen legs and ankles to go down and my back from hurting. I'm not the only one in family with a weight problem. Everyone in the family is either close to being overweight, already overweight, or obese. I'm obese. I want to lose weight for myself in the future. I know in order for someone to change in MY family, someone has to be a leader. And I WANT to be THAT leader for MY family.

I remember this past month for my Birthday, I wanted a few Leslie Sansone DVDs SO BAD!! And I got them. My Mother purchased them for me. I have the following...

~Leslie Sansone: 4 Really Big Miles
~Leslie Sansone: The Ultimate Collection
~Leslie Sansone: 5 Day Slim Down
~Leslie Sansone: 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

It's a start right? I think I will try the 5 Day Slim Down. I'm nervous yet excited that I put an end to this and FINALLY, exercise. Problem is, I've had the DVDs for 2 Months now, and I haven't used a single one. I have a few questions...

1) Should I do all the Miles or just one?
2) Do you eat Breakfast or a snack(apple, granola bar) before or after your Walk?
3) What shoes or clothes are needed?
4) Will I lose weight doing Walk Away The Pounds?

Again, My name is Lisa, I've very excited to join this team. Visit My Page!!

Hi, I just joined the team recently. I have been doing the 2 mile express dvd after starting out on the 1 mile get up & get started. I am attempting the 3 mile advanced walk but it's slightly too much right now. I suspect that it's my asthma/allergies that are interfering with my ability to do the longer walk - but will keep trying. Eventually I want to do the 5 mile walks. emoticon

Hi, thanks for welcoming me to the Team.

I have been a longtime Leslie fan, and own many of her DVDs. I initially used WATP to lose over 40 pounds. An ankle injury (not due to WATP!) caused me to stop being able to exercise and that led to a spiral of weight gain. I'm now working on losing the 33 pounds I regained. I'm very happy to say that I can do fitness walking again. I've begun using Leslie's walks this week -- starting with 2 mile walks.

I live in Los Angeles, and am a divorced mom of an 8 year old. I work with infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities and delays. I love to read, hike, and play word games.

Thanks again for being here and have a wonderful week, everyone!

I've been doing LS walks for years, I still have one of the original VHS tapes. My favorite one lately is the Walk Your Belly Flat. It's goldish in color on the box and you can get it at WMart. I like this one because she walks alone and because the time elapsed is being shown (counting down) on the screen. I like that because when I get ready to give up, I can see that I dont have far to go and I keep walking, plus, I have started adding Jogging for about 4 minutes into my 15 minute walks with her. The WYBF video is a 3 miler with her demo'ing a Bicycle crunch at the end of the video to tone your abs. I usually just do the mile 1 and mile 2 and then repeat. Mile 3 has a cool down in it and I don't feel like I get enough calorie burn.

I am from NC and I am a mother/grandmother/sister/friend/fiance(al
though quite often I refer to my man as my hubby)...

I dont work and dont have to. I am seriously though considering returning to college next Fall to work on a Diploma/Degree in Fitness Education. I know, isnt' that crazy. emoticon

I figured though that I needed a job that would keep me fit. And what a better way!

Hi, everyone! I'm a 21 year-old college student from Chicago, IL. I started using Leslie's DVDs only three weeks ago and I now barely go a day without working out to them! I've already gone from only being able to "walk" one mile (and being extremely exhausted afterward!) when I first started exercising regularly, to "walking" two miles straight without being tired. I was extremely proud of myself when I discovered that I could go straight from Mile 1 to Mile 2 without gasping for air or resting. These workouts are amazing!

I look forward to getting to know you all. :)

Well did my first walk yesterday and OMG!! I got one of the 4 mile videos and managed 2.5 on my first try. My husband was saying how awful the music is, but I didn't even notice because I was concentrating on what I needed to do. I did wear the wrong shoes (wore my Reebok walkers) but will wear better shoes today when I do my next walk. I did yesterday's in the morning and will do today's in the afternoon to see which time I like better. All in all, I really liked it.

Hi there!

I'm new to the group, but not new to walking away the pounds. I had some pretty good traction way back when, but lost it somewhere along the way. Walking was the thing that started me off, so I'm trying that again. I love Leslie's videos, and the elliptical is my best friend. I'm hoping for some motivation and accountability by being a part of the team.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this group too. I've been doing Leslie's walking workouts for many years now. When I really stick to them I lose. I love her upbeat attitude and the low impact of her workouts. I LOVE to walk outside too .. its definitely my favorite form of exercise. I'm hoping to make new friends here and cheer each on as we journey on this road to weight loss.

Hi, I've been on Spark for awhile but new to this team. I have been walking about 7-8 miles a week and am starting to find the same old walking area too repititious. I'm looking for some support to be able to keep it up and maybe some ideas for winter when it gets nasty in MI.
I have a treadmill but I like to see things when I walk or hear things. Figured I could check out some DVD's or get some ideas here.
Thanks for being out there.

Hey Cheryl - emoticon from North Carolina. I really enjoy walking outside, but since it's been so hot here this summer I found Leslie's DVDs and have really made use of them. emoticon emoticon emoticon is my main form of exercise, so I'm grateful for this team & the support. Looking forward to getting to know you emoticon

Hi, my name is Cheryl. I'm a nutritionist, wife, and mom of an active 7 year-old boy. I live in Canada. We have enjoyed a beautiful summer but I will be taking my walking inside with Leslie as the weather gets colder. I have known about and loved her program for years. I started using the two mile this week and am challenging myself to do it every day for 30 days. So far, I'm on day three. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi EVERYONE, my name is Gwen (Honeybunch24) and I live in South Florida with my wonderful husband. I have 3 adult children and 2 grands. I have been a brisk outside walker for many years, but I have almost all of Leslie's Walk Away the Pounds videos/dvd's. So as of Monday I will use LS walking program along with my outdoor walking to mix things up. Looking forward to posting here.
