Amazing stories, everyone. I'm Pat and I'm 58 and married and have one son and 3 grandchildren. I have some health issues, and I'm not exactly a beast with my exercise, but I am in the "zone" of wanting to eat better and walk more so I can be here for my grandchildren. Yay!

I definitely agree with FAITHINTX - your stories are inspiring. I had been thinking about not doing the jog/walk I planned for today. However, after reading all of your stories I just had to go out and run! You see, I really have no physical excuses I'm dealing with to keep me from getting my daily exercise. It's mainly my own self talk that discourages me from doing what I need to and want to do. Hi, my name is Barb. My user name is from Philippians 3:14 where Paul talks about forgetting what is behind and pressing on. That has been the target of my SP journey.

Weight background: I have been a member of SP since 2007. About 2012 I reached my maintenance range and was holding it. Then in 2013 my life went through several transitions and a lot of stress. I ended up putting 30 pounds back on that year. I have been working to gain stability in my eating and exercising again and have taken off 10 pounds. Currently I have been on a plateau for over a month.

Basic strategy: I mostly eat clean - avoid processed foods, plenty of veggies, fruits, and meats, very little grains and dairy. I have been away from sweets long enough that even the brownies my DH bakes once in awhile smells grossly sweet to me. For exercise I like to do Bodypump twice a week and am working through a progressive strength training plan other days. I also do various aerobic DVDs when I am not able to get out to do walking and/or running because of weather. In the past five years I have become a runner doing several 5Ks, 10Ks, and a couple of half-marathons.

My family: My DH is a "retired" pastor, currently working as an interim pastor. We have four children, all married, with 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. We are living in IL but will probably be moving, maybe to Iowa, this summer. I am a retired piano accompanist for HS choirs. I still volunteer to do some accompanying and have also done accompaniment work and made orchestrations for several musicals. Piano playing is a passion with which God has gifted me and I love doing it.

So that's some of my background. I am excited about being apart of this team. I look forward to continuing to get better acquainted with each of you.

Thanks for putting up with my rattling on!

I'm enjoying reading all the inspiring stories and learning more about you all. Never doubt that your stories are inspiring and even though you may have your struggles and are not where you might want to be...know that the fact that you are here IN SPITE OF your troubles is quite commendable. emoticon emoticon

Hi everybody ~ My name is Kandice. I am 33 and live in Northern California. I am married an amazing man, we have been together since we were 14. We have a 9 year old daughter named Kali, who keeps us very busy :) I am a Christian ~ I love Jesus and He is the center of mine and my family's life. I am a stay at home mom the past couple of years after working many years as a pediatric medical assistant. We like the outdoors ~ camping, fishing on our boat and spending time at the lake. We also enjoy baseball, our team is the San Francisco Giants, they are close to home and we often go to watch them play. I have 2 puppies, May is a tiny chihuahua and Big Chief is a chihuahua/weenie dog mix (so we call him a chiweenie). I am refocusing on my health after almost 5 years of being a bit lazy and not feeding my body very good foods. I am back to living a healthy lifestyle and getting back into running so hopefully the extra pounds will come off so I can be at a healthy/comfortable weight and so I can get back into good shape like I used to be. My main goal is to take care of this body God gave me to live in through good nutrition and an active life, and to give glory to Him along the way. I walk by faith and run on His strength! Glad to be here with you all and love that we can give each other motivation and friendship :) Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone. I'm here to try to get support on my health journey. I lost 30 pounds last year (working out a lot and using Herbalife). But when my father showed up after 35 years saying he was dying and homeless, it added a ton of emotions and stress into both me and my sister's life. That's a long story. During that time I also took a stressful and very sedentary job. Those two things contributed to me hopping back on the stress eating/emotional eating train.

I started on here a little over a month ago. I struggled to lose about 3.5 during that month (tracked every bite and tried to get to the gym at least 3 times a week). I got a call from my sis telling me that dad wasn't doing so well, so I flew back to Ohio for a week. He died. I gained 4 pounds. So I'm back to the drawing board (and trying to just move on).

My body seems to hang on to every ounce of fat it can. I really could use some buddies to help along the way. I have a wonderful husband who says he will eat whatever I do, but he's really not ready to try to lose the few pounds he needs to lose. (I want him to do that for him and not me). Thanks for letting me be a part of this group.

Hi, my name is Gloria. I'm married, 22 years this past March, to a wonderful man and we have an amazing daughter who will be 21 this year. She was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease when she was 11 yrs. old and the doctors removed both of her kidneys when she was 12 yrs. old. As her main caregiver, I neglected to take care of myself and developed Type 2 diabetes. Now, I'm determined to get healthy and fit so I can do and be all that the Lord has purposed for my life. Thanks, again, for inviting me to join this great team. Blessings!

Plan:
Move my body (15 mins per day, 5 days per week)

Hi, everyone! I have enjoyed reading about you!
I have multiple health problems, diabetes, high blood pressure since age 26, heart problems (stent and A-FIB), kidney and adrenal gland issues. I eat healthy most of the time and exercise, but all these problems are a metabolism buster. So I continue to be overweight. I had got off of 4 meds until last year and now I have 4 more, bummer, for A-Fib and uric acid/gout issues. The feet problems keep me off my feet some days, but even with pain I get on the treadmill and walk. I keep active. I am not going to let aches and pains get in the way of living my life! I should join the gym and do some light weight training. Maybe you will be my motivation for that?
I have a husband and two kitties and am, ahem, age 64! I think like a 21 year old, however.
emoticon I love life and have a love of music, art, movies and humor.

Hi, my name is Liz. I have come a long way. I used to be on at least 11 different medicines, for several different reasons. I was 320 lbs. I couldn't breathe when walking up the stairs to get to the bathroom or bedroom. So I practically LIVED in my bedroom. I slept between 12 and 16 hours each day. I sent my two oldest children to their grandmother's house while I kept my newborn at home with me. I decided I needed to change in order to live a long life to see my children grow up. I started with walking every day. I lost 51 lbs the first year (2012). In 2013, I tried changing my eating habits too but fell back into some old bad habits, so I only lost 40 lbs. In 2014, I added strength training and only lost 20 something lbs but looked like I had lost more. As of right now, I have lost 118 lbs total. I eat healthy most of the time and am very active. I'm off ALL my medicines and have overcome depression/bipolar, as well as prediabetes/metabolic disorder. I sleep 6-8 hours a night, sometimes 9, but rarely. My children want to be healthy and fit too. And even my husband joined sparkpeople.com and lost 30 lbs and loves to run now! I'm slowly working my way to being a runner, but I know I will get there!!

Hello all I am married to Iamwarrior living the happily ever after. I am a mom to 3 kids. Family fitness is important to us as well as always learning about nutrition. I was in
Taekwondo as a kid it kept me fit but, when we moved away I had to quit. I became a chunker. Then as a adult I had some back to back trauma the big kinds I didn't have the tools to cope so I ran to food. I didn't have the confidence to try new exercises. I was so big martial arts seemed out of reach. I grew up not learning anything about nutrition. My husbands passion for fitness has been a big part in me trying new things. Somehow in the little changes I became a women who loves exercise. Its been and ongoing process for me and now I look at this as a life long journey. But, its a fun journey I like me where I am at on the way to where I am going! I am in process! I enjoy rooting others on as well doing your best! Look forward to getting to know you all!

hi my name is karen i am 50 next birthday and i am married with 3 boys who all have special needs of one form or another .so to say my life can be stressful some times is an understatement.i also have several medical problems to deal with.a facial paralys, aneurysma which has been 2 times operated on up to now .i have a blood disorder which i am on permanent bloodthinners for and which has been responsible for me having 8 lung embolies in the last four years and this might interest you steven i had a knee replacement end last year.so as you see i have a lot to contend with but instead of using theese things as an excuse i am trying to use them to motivate me to a better me.i used to weigh 330lbs at my highest(my ticker is wrong there is a server failer that shows it in kg instead of lbs)and i am now 199.8lbs.i still have a way to go but seem to have lost my mojo abit where i hope joining this team might help me get it back.everyday i do stretching and my spin bike but am only up to 20 minutes on that as my knee still hurts and hasnt full bend yet but that is also something i am working on.i go to zumba class twice a week but do most of them on a gymnastic ball bouncing up and down for the feet movement while doing the arm movements.last class i actually did a couple of the slow dances standing doing both leg and arm movements.so only time will tell how that goes.i also go often walking with the kids.i have kettle bells and dumb bells but i am not very consistant with them or any strength exercises really which is something i have to start working on.cardio i have down pat.the other thing i have to work on is my food.as i said i have alot of stressors in my life and i am an emotional/stress eater.so theese are things i have to work on and hope to get information and tips on how to improve my weak points.looking forward to getting to know you all through the threads.

Hi, I'm Steven. Excited to be a member of this team.
I'm a retired high school teacher. I taught Public Speaking, Military History, and U.S. Constitution.
Since retirement I've been working on my personal passion - fiction writing. So far I've been writing Flash Fiction. My current work in progress will be my first short story.

I have a personal trainer who is helping me strengthen my core and legs for a knee replacement next year. My cardio is RPM Spin class.

I'm currently on a low GI diet. I'm currently at 226, down from 243. I've got another 30 pounds to go.
