Hello!

I'm Marci from Elkhart Indiana, 60 years old.

In March of this year I had a perforated appendix. I toughed out the pain too long and ended up dehydrated and that affected my kidneys. While in the hospital I was diagnosed with prediabetes. When I saw my Dr in July for a follow up, my A1C was 6.4... still technically prediabetes. Now I'm on Metformin ER

I'm working on losing weight (I don't have an accurate scale at home so won't know a number until I see the Dr again in late October), adding exercise (not too successful there yet), and dealing with stress in my life.

I re-joined SparkPeople a week ago to help with my goals and looking forward to being part of this Team.

Hi. I'm David. 60 from corpus Christi Texas.
I joined this team as my Dr put me on Lisinopril because of heart problems and was told is using it as a preventative. I'm starting a cross between a Heart health and Diabetes diet. I came here to try to learn and listen to how others are working on theirs.
David.

We are what we think about.

Hello everyone!

My name is Kristen, I am 31 and live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I have had type 1 diabetes for 12 years now. Over the past 12 years since my diagnosis I have gone through some crazy ups and downs but the hard truth of the matter is that with the exception of my pregnancies I have never really had good control of my blood sugar levels and it has left me feeling ill and exhausted most of the time.

I am tired of being sick and not feeling well. I know the risks I am putting on my organs and my body are not good at all. I am ready to get control of my health and get control of my life again!

How are a writer and a dieter alike?
They both have to start in order to finish.

Hi, I'm Bruce Younggreen. I'm not a professional writer in that I haven't been paid for anything since I was 19 years old. (I sold a short parable story to a weekly Christian magazine way back then.) However, I do write and I've used a couple of pen names. The first pen name was in high school where I signed my stories "Bruce the Beloved". When I moved to Denver, Colorado, I began signing them "The Denver Badger". Now I live in Georgia so I've gone back to Bruce the Beloved.

I am a 66 year old man. I weigh 301 pounds. I've had two ablations for Atrial Fibrillation and have been hospitalized twice for congestive heart failure. I'm Type II Diabetic and use insulin twice a day. I'm also a vegetarian and struggle constantly with meeting "recommended dietary carb/protein/fat" balances. (There wouldn't happen to be a group for diabetic vegetarian men, would there? No, I didn't think so!)

This is my second attempt to lose weight, heal my heart, liver, and pancreas, reverse my insulin resistance, get off insulin, and live forever.

I'm Tanya in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. 55 yrs. old. I have been diabetic for 18 yrs. Runs on both sides of the family so wasn't surprised. I was diet controlled the first 7 yrs which doc said was a good run. Metformin for a couple of years 4 pills/day and then for a few years was down to 2. Now back up to 4 so hoping to beat this since I seem to have a decent grip on the sugars. I manage to keep them near pre-diabetic level. Now to get the weight off for good.

Hi, my name is Virginia and I'm new to this, don't really understand diabetes. Recently went to the doctor who informed me, I'm pre-diabetic very close to becoming a diabetic. So its time to get serious.

Hi, this is Debbie from Omaha, Nebraska. I'm 63 years old and have been a Type 2 Diabetic for years. When I was first diagnosed no one explained the necessity of keeping your A1C under 7. They just threw pills at me and sent me on my way.

I have struggled horribly to stay on track. I was down to 7.2 A1C now I'm back at 9.3. I want to join in and have support and give support when needed. My goal is to lose 25 pounds, so HERE I GO!!!

Any suggestions or motivations you have, please send my way.

I was on years ago, and I have lost weight many different times in my life. I am 50 and just hit 9.6 on my A1C. Dr wants to meet to talk about new meds, which MAY mean insulin. I'm not doing it. I WILL grow up and be responsible for myself and lose the weight and exercise. I CAN do it. I would love any support you want to send my way! emoticon

Hello everyone. I've taken this challenge before. My doctor said I am bordering on being pre-diabetic (about 4 years ago, so I lost 50 pounds). Everything improved, my A1C is 5.7, my cholesterol is normal, my blood pressure is slightly high without medication so I take medication. This has been the situation for a few years. I need to lose another 25. I've been stalled for several months, mostly due to lack of effort on my part. So I'm taking this challenge as a refresher and hopefully motivator to improve my health and keep diabetes away.

My name is Kelley, I have been away from Spark for a few years. Im type 2 diabetic, Im fortunate enough to not have too many struggles with it, my sugar rarely gets out of hand. Im going through some other struggles at the moment that has caused me to allow myself to gain some weight and let my sweet tooth get out of hand. I do not take insulin and hope to keep it that way so I decided to return to spark people.
I look forward to chatting with some people.

HI, my name is Criss and I am a diabetic. I was diagnosed last March. My dr. Diagnosed me on on my very first reading. 134 fasting. I was on metformin twice a day, but cut it down to one a day. To many side effects. I have lost 45 pounds in a year and would like to get off the medicine. Has anyone reversed type 2 diabetes with diet and exercise and your numbers remained good?

Hello everyone! I'm Stephanie. I took his challenge 2 years ago after being diagnosed. But since then I've started a new position at work and let go of all the good habits I created for myself. I feel like I'm restarting and am hoping this challenge helps me create a new groove for myself.

Hello, Im Michelle
I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with type 2. I was on Invokana (and a couple of others) and lost weight with it. My Dr and I decided to take me off for other issues, and subsequently gained most of that weight back. So right now I am struggling to take it back off and loose at least 15 more. I am looking for support and a kick from time to time when I need it!!!

Michelle

Hi, my name's Courtney. I'm 24 years old and I was recently diagnosed with T2 diabetes. There's a significant history of T2 diabetes in my family, including father, paternal grandmother, maternal grandfather, and paternal aunts and uncles, so it was basically inevitable... I'm working hard to get my weight down and my goal is to lose about 40 pounds and get down to around 125-130 pounds. I also would like to manage my diabetes without the help of medication for as long as possible.

Hi, I'm Sheri!!! I have been in and out of here for many, many, many moons. I was doing okay and wasn't that concerned. I still tracked and sugars were not bad. Then I had an accident a little over three years ago...inactive, couldn't track, etc. Well, this mess is progressive. After three years, I am clearer and want to get back on track. I tested my sugars the other day and couldn't believe how high they were. So I cut back and tracked. Well, they didn't drop as I expected. I am afraid to take meds as I confuse days, etc. so I am working really hard to lose weight and increase exercise. Hopefully, these steps will lower sugars to a level where meds are not needed. If not, I am in trouble....lol.

The Lord doesn't expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn't (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can - that we work according to to our full capacity, however great or however small that may be.

I'm Lisa. I'm 55 and am borderline. I'm working on changing my way of eating. I have lost 20 pounds so far. The fun part is... I own a cupcake bakery! I've got a handle on that though.

I need to make sure I am getting plenty of rest and working in some exercise time too. I am using short goals to accomplish my long term goals. Just need to stay focused. We've got this!

Hello! My name is Jeana and I was diagnosed as prediabetic. Diabetes runs in the family and I'm trying to lose weight and it's just not working. I had a physical for a job on Monday and they outright said I'm diabetic, so what I'm doing is really not working. Therefore, I decided to try the challenge and see if I can get more done.

Hi everyone! My name is Lisa, and I live in Mississippi. I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few weeks ago. My AC1 was 6.7, so I feel fortunate that I have caught it early. I am determined to get this issue under control, along with my high blood pressure and bad cholesterol numbers, by changing my diet and exercising.

Hi, My name is Amanda and I'm 44 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006 and found it easy at first to control my sugars however, as I've gotten older I find it difficult. Especially when my meds are $1130.00 a month that's with insurance. My A1C is currently a 12 which is far from good. I'm hoping that learning to eat right and exercising and being able to talk to others in this group will help me.

Good morning! I'm 53 and Type 2 Diabetic. I recently went back to doctor after about 3ish years ... my a1c was 13. In the past month, I've brought my fasting blood sugars down to an average of 107 and have been really strict with my carbs. I've lost almost 10 pounds and my doctor is thrilled -- plus he loved the spreadsheet I created to track it all.

I get so irritated because I know what I need to do, yet fail to do it.

My name is Marie and I'm new to the challenge.
I got off track and wasn't able to take my meds for awhile, and wasn't watching my diet either. Got a scare when I was in the hospital for something else, and they wouldn't let me leave because my blood sugar was too high.
Went back to my Dr and now I'm back on meds and starting over.
I hope that through this challenge I can get back on track and get my diabetes back under control.

I'm a 48 year old grandmother of 3 and single parenting a 9 year old daughter on the Autism Spectrum. My last a1c, October 2017, was 6.3. I want to get it below 6 at the next check up. I also got my cholesterol checked at the same time. 240 with very low HDL and high everything else. On medication for hypothyroidism, diabetes, bipolar disorder, and ptsd. End goal is to stop needing the diabetes med. today is Day 4 and will be my 3rd day in the gym. humaninrecovery.wordpress.co

My son was diagnosed as pre- diabetic... I know I am at risk if I don't get my weight under control soon. Open to any kid friendly meal ideas!

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger... this weight thing hasn't killed me yet (But the exercise might)

My husband has Type 2 Diabetes. I'm having blood work done on Friday. I lost my extra weight, kept it off for around 3 years and then gained it all back. I'm hoping that by using this challenge both my husband and I will benefit.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your srength and all your might. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Hi I'm Kelly. I haven't been diagnosed as diabetic but as my grandmother (though she has lost weight and used diet management and is no longer diabetic) and my mother (just recently diagnosed) have been and I know I need to lose weight and get fit again I figured this was a great place to join.

Hi

I'm Mary and I have been away for quite some time now. But since I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I felt the need to come back and get some good support from my Spark friends.
