What do you like to do for fun? Spending time with my Grandkids

What diet are you following? Following Spark. Counting calories and exercise. Making it a lifestyle.

What is your favorite exercise? Zumba

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I was a Clover in the 5% Winter Challenge. it is my first 5% Challenge. Lots of encouragement from a bunch of great people. I came within a half pound of loosing 5% of my weight to. :-)

2 random fun facts about you? I play Pokemon when I walk. My Grandkids got me started. One of my guilty pleasures is eating raw potatoes. I know ,it`s weird.

Anything else you would like to share? We can do this!

Come and tell us a little about you.
I am retired from public education finance in the U.S and currently living in the UK. I married an Englishman 3 1/2 years ago. It was the most irrational decision I ever made and the best one that I ever made.

What is your name or nick name? I have a friend who calls me Pluto because I thought it was terrible when the planet got kicked out of the solar system.

What do you like to do for fun? Paleography and transcribing and translating old documents

What diet are you following? I am a true Sparker - I don't follow a diet, I believe in lifestyle changes, I try to incorporate everything Spark has to offer, a rounded meal plan, portion control --although I do not allow myself any processed sugar (cookies candy etc) once I start I do not stop.

What is your favorite exercise? Hiking, walking and my new favorite bodypump

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I am on about my 5th - can't believe it is true -- they keep me focused.

2 random fun facts about you? I am walking the Inca trail in August and I am a Mayflower descendent.

Anything else you would like to share? I consider myself very lucky and blessed to have found happiness so late in life!

Come and tell us a little about you! I'm 70 years 10 months old and have been in Spark for 46 months. I am a former US Patent Examiner. My wife and I have 4 daughters all happily married, 9 grandchildren and one great grandson.

What is your name or nick name? Mr. Owl

What do you like to do for fun? Math Puzzles

What diet are you following? I lost 34 pounds just substituting healthy whole vegetables for processed foods that are high in sugar and watching the meal portions eyeballing the size on the plate, we rarely counted calories. I do still eat some processed foods but my wife and I carefully read the ingredients list and if a sugar is listed as the number 1-3 ingredient we don't buy it. Since this was a lifestyle change, now that I in maintenance, I made no changes except to simply increased the portions slightly.

What is your favorite exercise? Jogging but I also do total body resistance training.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the winter 5% Challenge and finally lost the final 5 pounds to get to my goal weight.

2 random fun facts about you? Our church is having a spring cleanup on April 1st and I signed up for it. If I don't show up for some reason it will just be an April fools event. On Saturday April 8, our Church is having a bake sale, so I signed up to bring refreshments on Sunday April 9, my wife is baking anyway and there will be plenty of leftovers. Just kidding.

Anything else you would like to share? I believe in lifestyle changes, not diets that are meant to quickly lose weight. Those seldom take hold and if one does get to the goal weight, chances are too great that one will simply go back to the same old pattern as the crash diet will not lead to a lasting change.

Outdoors I love walking at the park. At the gym I like the bike and several other machines.

What is your name or nick name? My name is Carol.

What do you like to do for fun? Listen to music; vinyl LPs for preference.

What diet are you following? I haven't been following one at all, but I need to cut back on butter. I love butter.

What is your favorite exercise? Well... I don't really have one. I've been very sedentary for the past couple of years, and now it hurts to walk or stand for any length of time. So I guess my favorite exercise will be just moving around more to begin with. I've got an elliptical trainer which I need to start using again once I get some stamina back.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This is my first. In fact, it's my first hour on the site.

2 random fun facts about you? I'm controlled by 2 Maine Coon cats. I wish they sold Diet A&W Root Beer in Scotland.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several Challenges with The Champions in the Kitchen. They're great for motivation, support and accountability.

2 random fun facts about you? We regularly help our dog's breeder socialize new litters before they go to their forever homes. I almost every version of "A Christmas Carol" on either DVD or video.

Anything else you would like to share? Never give up on your quest for better health and fitness. Remember that age is just a state of mind.

What is your favorite exercise? Strength training. I use to like walking. I recently had foot surgery and am still healing. It will be a long time before I can walk any great distance.

What diet are you following? Eating "real" food. Last challenge I eliminated all meat and seafood because of some health issues.

What is your name or nick name? Cindi

What do you like to do for fun? Walk, read, shop, crochet, spending time with family.

What diet are you following? Sonoma Diet which is a Mediterranean type that is focused on portion control and power foods. Similar to South Beach Diet in types of foods. My husband and I are working on following a No S lifestyle (No sweets, No snacks, No seconds, except on days that start with S). I mostly eat whole foods and don't cut out food groups. I try to stick with portions and eat small to moderate meals.

What is your favorite exercise? walking and some running. In the winter I've been either doing treadmill or Leslie Sansone walk videos. I keep track of my steps with Garmin Vivofit 2.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Summer 2016 was my first one and I've done them since. I love the challenge. It helps give me structure that really makes me work. I am pretty busy, so the structure makes sure I am making my fitness a priority.

2 random fun facts about you? I am obsessed with diet and exercise and read everything I can get on the subject. I then look for ways to incorporate what I've learned whether its diet or exercise related. I think my diet tends to be a mixture, I also love clothes and finding ways to style favorite clothes I've had for years.

Anything else you would like to share? I am very busy, but I have been able to fulfill the requirements of the team and post within the time frame. I love the accountability.

What is your favorite exercise? I was pretty active for a senior until October, 2016. I started having excruciating pain shooting down my left leg. I found out that it was a sciatic nerve problem. Now I only do stretches to help minimize the pain. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do more activity.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I participated in the 2017 Winter 5% Challenge. It was the first time ever participating in a challenge like this.

2 random fun facts about you? (1) I love to be around people and to talk, (2) I like playing games.

Anything else you would like to share? I really enjoy encouraging others. I have been happily married for 42 years to the love of my life. We had 3 children, 2 daughters and 1 son. The son is with the Lord. We have one grandson, whose 9 years old and one son-in-law.

What is your name or nick name? My name is Verna and Hubby sometimes calls me VJ

What do you like to do for fun? spending time outdoors doing yard and gardening stuff, knitting, crocheting, riding horseback.

What diet are you following? Sparks Diabetic guidelines even though I am no longer pre diabetic since starting SP!! I recently have (almost) eliminated wheat products.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. 2017 Winter. I enjoyed it. Met some "old" friends on it and some new ones. Liked it a lot but hope to do better on this challenge.

2 random fun facts about you? I love animals especially cats. Dogs are good too though and horses are the best!!

I am known to prepare full meals at home and take them to folks that have been sick, just released from hospital, have cancer and taking treatments for it, and those that have just lost a loved one or just to give the lady of the house a break from cooking and because I make my own wine a bottle or two is always included!! I prepare enough for hubby and I as well as for the family so we can make an evening out of it.

For fun, I love to golf, swim, read, listen to books while I walk

I do not have a specific diet, I just do portion control and try to hit my numbers on this site and eat real food, not processed

My favorite exercise is swimming and walking on elliptical. I use bands for strength.

What do you like to do for fun? Running...particularly in Hawaii, fiddling with my guns,

What diet are you following? No diet - I just track my food and exercise. Just doing that much has led me to make some much healthier choices. I did a modified form of medifast at the beginning. They wanted me to eat only 1200 calories a day, and stop running for a month! I said no! ive been running for 9 years, and it took a lot of effort to get where I am, but I hadn't lost any weight. So I tried medifast for a while and still do use some of their meal replacements, but really it's more like just tracking and sticking as close to 2000 calories a day, and burning (per Fitbit) closer to 3000 calories per day. However, I find myself not sticking to that plan whenever the kids come around...eating is part of our culture...just need to change that to "eating the right things"

2 random fun facts about you? I lived in Japan for nearly half of my life, but I'm not Japanese (live in the US now).

Anything else you would like to share? I've lost more than 45 pounds on SparkPeople. I recommend it to anyone who asks! Actually, I've probably lost close to a hundred, 4-5 pounds at a time...my problem is that I keep finding those 4-5 pounds...at least I'm not finding more than I lost;-). I actually joined this challenge because I have approx 5% of my body weight to lose to get to my goal, which is to float between 190-195).

Kept me more focused than I probably would have been thru a few weeks of illness. Was definitely a good choice, and one I'm excited to be making again this spring!

2 random fun facts about you? 1) I'm taking an on-line nature journaling course. 2) My husband and I lived in Korea, and Egypt before that. I still dream about being in the tombs and walking around the Pyramids.

Anything else you would like to share? I have had Type II Diabetes for 17 years. I'm very good about taking my meds, but am getting to the point that, if I don't better engage and take control of my behavior, I'll be in trouble. I also have mobility issues after developing a rare disease and having a fall that seriously injured my back. Sometimes I feel like I'm falling apart. Anyone know where I can get some high-quality replacement parts? emoticon I'm very much looking forward to the new challenge. I KNOW I feel better at light weights and when I'm active. Having a community to report to helps me push thru the whining and discomfort!

What do you like to do for fun? Running with friends or hanging with my husband and kids gives me the most pleasure. On rare occasions, I can do both at the same time :-)

What diet are you following? I'm eating fewer processed foods and I'm working with a PT/nutritionist to figure out what works best for me.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several 5% challenges. First with the BLC groups but I didn't have a lot of fun. Then I joined another but I got complacent. Two, or three(?) sessions ago I joined the Teddy Bears and they help me keep it fun and interesting.

2 random fun facts about you? I met my husband on Sparkpeople.
I recently adopted a Greyhound mix that likes to sit on the dining room table.

What do you like to do for fun? Adult colouring,walking,window shopping,going out for coffee & chat

What diet are you following? This is a strange answer! Tuesday I had tests for heart health done at a pharmacy. My blood pressure is too low,with added salt before the blood test I got it to 108/65,some days it is 80/50. My G.P. said it would be O.K. at 100/60, he is wrong. The pharmacy & the hospital 2 days later said it has to be at 120/80 and is causing damage to my heart and affecting my brain because of lack of blood flow to my organs and brain. Since Friday I got it to around 120/75 with one teaspoon of added salt daily as I was advised.Total salt 3,500 milligrams with food & added salt needed. My cholesterol that people consider bad from dairy products is too low and below the minimum needed to be healthy. My good cholesterol also needs to be raised. I was told to add all regular fat dairy, stop almonds because the omega can turn bad in your body. Walnuts are the only nuts that do not do that.They have cholesterol which I need,I was advised to include various beans & lentils and salmon.I have salmon 2 times a week.This will be hard to start losing weight but I need 32% fat,18% protein and 50% carbs.

For exercise I was advised to do walking, I walk at least 30 minutes daily,now advised to do yoga, I start next month,less cardio because of low blood pressure, blood clot in my lung & problems with the arteries in my legs which I found out Tuesday. I was doing cardio & strength training 3 times a week. My kidney function is 80%,but I.N.R. is high meaning the kidneys are causing bad side effects to my body. Tomorrow I call a specialist to see why my body is not working correctly,hopefully get in soon.

I gained weight on the last challenge,hope to lose weight as I plan my new diet for 7 days and change my exercise program. With the weight gained back I still managed to lose 35 pounds last year.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to crochet. Also hubby and I love visiting nature preserves in our area and hiking the trails. I read a lot and belong to a book club that meets at our local library monthly.

What diet are you following? No particular diet, just try to eat healthy within my calorie range.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking. I live in a small town that is rather hilly so walk outdoors in nice weather and on my treadmill in the winter months.

Greetings,

What is your name or nick name? Harriet

What do you like to do for fun? Hike in the woods on very well groomed trails, bike on a path with very little incline, kayak on a lake or easy river and generally anything relaxing that is outdoors in the sunshine when it is not too hot. One of my favorite things is to spend time with my little dog Linus. He is the best stress reliever. I also love antiquing, pinterest, hockey, movies, plays, live music and I'm trying to teach myself to crochet.

What diet are you following? - Counting calories while increasing protein and Freggies.

What is your favorite exercise? - Riding my bike outdoors. I also love to walk my dog- Linus

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.- I did a few several years ago and was successful in losing 30+ pounds but time has caught up to me and I've gained back 10. I need a challenge again. I did the winter 2017 challenge and spent the 8 weeks gaining back my strength and organizing my diet. I AM READY FOR FLIGHT!

2 random fun facts about you- I am a retired RN and I enjoy volunteering for my church visiting folks in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Anything else you would like to share? - My wonderful DH has recently lost 50+ pounds using a Garmin activity tracker that I bought for him for his birthday in July. He loves technology so this was the perfect "toy" for him. It only took him 5 months to lose the 50 and now he is a Master of Maintenance. He tracks everything that he eats and every motion that he takes. Tracking is truly the way to go.

In the picture you see my little love bug Linus. He is a 5 year old Bichon Frise who is my weight lose talisman. I was at my highest when I adopted him and he has kept me walking and moving ever since.

I love to bake, to do embroidery, to play tennis, to read, to dance and to go to any and all sports games that my daughter takes part in.

2 random fun facts about you?
I enjoy taking part in charity events as often as possible. I have one coming up in april that will involve climbing several flights of stairs.
I like to volunteer for a variety of causes and interests. One thing I have started to volunteer for is to help out tennis canada with events that they have every august.
