Balanced meal plan including Shakeology, try to stay low carb, avoid refined flours and sugars, lots of veggies

What is your favorite exercise?
Core de Force program from Beachbody -- I love the MMA style workout!

I've done a challenge each season since Summer 2016. I've really enjoyed the challenges, meeting new people, having a reason to log into SparkPeople every day. I've bounced around teams the last few seasons to get a feel for something different and notice I really do better with really interactive teams.

2 random fun facts about you?
I'm working on starting my own business for mental health counseling and Reiki. I love to learn new things and am taking several classes on Udemy right now.

Anything else you would like to share?
I'm looking forward to another 5% challenge! I haven't hit the goal yet but I believe it might finally be my time.

What is your name or nick name? My name is Ruth. Haven't really got a nickname.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to read, work in the yard, work puzzles (jigsaw, Sudoku). I am a news junkie and like to stay informed. Husband and I like to binge-watch series on Netflix or Hulu, especially British tv.

What diet are you following? Spark's "anything, in moderation". My Plate. Just a basic healthy, well-balanced diet-- more plants, less sugar, less prepared foods.

What is your favorite exercise? Hahahahaha! I don't like to exercise. Haven't got a "favorite"-- it's more like, least disliked. And that would be walking.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several. I was a Daisy for a while and then a Casual Traveler. Last couple years, my work schedule was all over the place (12 hour days, 10 hour days) and I felt I didn't have the time to be an active member.

2 random fun facts about you? I just retired at the end of July. And I'm finishing up the KonMari method of de-cluttering (The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up).

Anything else you would like to share? I've been in maintenance 5 years. I've found (for me, personally) that old, bad habits tend to creep back in-- if I don't keep working at it.

Hello - hoping to get some new energy by coming back to the 5% challenge!


What is your name or nick name? My name is Betsy, it's also technically a nickname. My real name is Elizabeth but I've always been called Betsy.

What do you like to do for fun? I love being outdoors and like to walk, hike, cycle, swim - and am doing my first super sprint triathlon on j9/9. I also love to read, watch movies especially Netflix series.

What diet are you following? Well...basically, spark tracking and almost vegan.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking/hiking, cycling, swimming. Used to love to run, got injured, so am doing other things.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the Fall 5% challenge which was my first (2016) and then the winter challenge. I found it to be a little overwhelming at first and sort of a lot of pressure. I liked learning a few things and meeting other sparkers. I may not have completed the winter one, this year has been a bit of a blur as my mom's health was faltering and she died in June.

2 random fun facts about you? I'm the only blonde blue eyed person in my family. I road my bike down the coast of California when I was 23.

Anything else you would like to share? I hope this challenge is good for giving my health and weight loss a good start. I've been stagnating for the past two years.

What diet are you following? calorie control, nothing off limits, eat what I like and healthy for me

What is your favorite exercise? Indoor walking workouts

2 random fun facts about you? I teach young children with developmental disabilities, including autism. I love my job!

When I first started my weight loss journey I weighed 286 at my heaviest. At my lowest I've found my way down to 243. But last month I slipped up, got off track and my bad habits have sent me into a tail spin weighing in at 248. I've allowed stress to take over and stress eating has began again. I am trying to regain my focus and determination to get back on track and start taking back control of my weight and most importantly my health.

My name is Cynthia, but most people end up calling me Cyn.

I like to read, watch cooking shows, and hike.

I'm doing the Whole Life Challenge where you work on 7 healthy habits. One of them is Nutrition, which identifies "compliant" and "noncompliant" foods. It's mostly a low-carb diet with an emphasis on protein, fruits, and veggies, and avoiding processed foods.

I don't love exercise but I do enjoy walking, hiking/backpacking, and yoga.

This is my second 5% challenge. My first challenge was the Summer 5% Challenge, which I really enjoyed (although I didn't make my 5%). The team support was what made it great.

Two fun facts about me are (1) I foster stray kittens (take care of them until they've had their shots, been neutered, and are old enough to be adopted). Sometimes I also have their moms, and sometimes I don't get them until after they've been weaned. (2) My husband and I enjoy country-western dancing, such as two-step and west coast swing.

What do you like to do for fun? Walk my dog and ride my bike.

What diet are you following? Moderation at all times. I want to focus on my nutrition without becoming obsessed with it.

What is your favorite exercise? Bike riding

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did - Several in the distant past where I was successful. In the recent past, I was not as focused, had health and personal issues to work on, and I just maintained.

2 random fun facts about you?
1) I'm a retired RN doing what I always wanted to do when I was working for a salary: I volunteer for my church and spend time chatting with, cheering up and praying with the elderly in Nursing Facilities and Assisted Living facilities.
2) In the past 9 months both my daughters have moved out of my home emoticon One bought her own townhouse nearby emoticon and the other graduated from college and found a great job in a neighboring state only one and a half hours away emoticon . I am not an empty nester though- I HAVE LINUS THE PERPETUAL BABY IN THE FAMILY.


Anything else you would like to share? That is Linus in my picture. He is my weight loss Talisman. I was at my heaviest when I adopted him as a puppy 5 years ago and I lost a significant amount of weight walking him. I plan on doing it again!

Hi everyone. This is my first 5% Challenge and I'm not to sure about writing these messages so I am using the 'Reply' key hoping that is the right thing to do.

What is your name or nick name? - my name is Rhonda and I've never had a nick name.

What do you like to do for fun? - For fun I like to work in my garden or walk my dogs.

What diet are you following? - Just trying to eat healthy and stay around 1600 calories/day

What is your favorite exercise? - my favorite exercise is yoga. I go to a yoga class nearly every day and sometimes I get to go to two classes in one day.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. - I've never done a 5% challenge. I've tried reading all the rules so I hope I understand all the requirements.

2 random fun facts about you? I can stand on my head and I can put my leg over my shoulder. Of course that is all thanks to yoga. But it is fun.

Anything else you would like to share? I have two dogs that I dearly love and walk them 3 to 5 miles a day in my neighborhood. We have a nice greenbelt in our subdivision so it is not too crowded. I live in Austin TX so we have lots of good walking weather.

I am married and will celebrate our 46th anniversary on the 4th of this month. We have 4 adult children, 12 grandchildren, and our first great-grandchild. I live in TN and I am retired. I am a 2 year breast cancer survivor.

Good Morning!

Come and tell us a little about you! I am a morning person. I am usually up by 4:30 - 5:00 am. I have two children, a daughter 27 and a son 21. A wonderful husband who derails my eating all the time. I have been teaching at a local university for the last 26 years now. I love all animals, reading, baking but most of all, the ocean. I am 63 and I look forward to traveling along with all of you again this fall. I have been with the Casual Travelers for Spring and summer and feel they are now my good friends.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to bake, read, watch British murder mysteries, and horses.

What diet are you following? I am committed to counting calories with a touch of carb watching. I am finding the carb counting difficult.

What is your favorite exercise? I hate exercise but, I walk every morning. I love to swim and believe me riding horses is exercise.

2 random fun facts about you? I have a twin sister and a great weakness for bagels with tons of butter. Oh, and I love bacon.

What is your name or nick name?
Hi! My name is Devin, but I usually go by Dev. This will be my first 5% challenge since being on Sparkpeople off and on since around 2010. I'm looking for a relatively active community that holds me accountable. On the flip side, I'm a SAHM to a 3 year old boy and taking online college course both of which regularly change my routine at any given time. I am hoping to end up on the causal travelers group to help give me some flexibility in posting times.

What do you like to do for fun?
These days I don't have much time for fun between my 3 year old and school. I enjoy coaching (and doing) gymnastics/tumbling/trampoline, photography, and reading in any spare time that I have.

What diet are you following?
We are following a heart healthy diet in my house because my husband has high blood pressure and a heart defect and my son also has a heart defect.

What is your favorite exercise?
These days I'm enjoying the elliptical and body weight strength training. I also live in a walking community so I end up walking quite a bit.

2 random fun facts about you?
I absolutely hate avocado except when it is incorporated into sushi.
I love making up silly songs with my 3 year old about the random things we see.

Anything else you would like to share?
When I really set my mind to it I find it relatively easy to lose weight. I know that nutrition is my downfall. My problem lies in the fact that I'm a foodie. I want to try everything and anything new and exciting that I happen to come across. Once I find something I love I have a hard time with portion control. I've been trying to cut back on eating out and going too elaborate in the kitchen to help get back to a healthy weight.

Good evening, my name is Lynna. That is just Lynn with the short a sound. I have to admit I an nervous and excited about being a new EL for the Daisies. They are a Determined bunch of people. I knew when the chance came open for an EL that I would love a go at it. What a great way to meet all of you and to learn the how to of doing my part.
I am married to Sammy and we married last April 8th. Year and half and it has been wonderful. We all know that marriages have to be worked at and he seems willing to work at this for us. He is supportive and very shy but sweet. A good man. (secret: he is my 3rd, I am a slow learner and weight loser). I have two sons both grown men. Both of them about 6'3" and they love that have to look down at me, 5'4".
The queen of the house is Bootsy, my cat. Bet you thought it was me.
I am a librarian by day and by night I try to recoop from the crazy days at work.


What do you like to do for fun? I of course, love to read, write, and listen to music. But I also love quietness.

What diet are you following? Found out in January I was pre diabetic so I have cut down carbs, sugar, and eat better fats. Some days are good and some days are not.

What is your favorite exercise? I love the stationary bikes at the gym first but I also doing the weight machines and walking. My favorite thing at the gym is the showers.

How long have you been Sparking? Since June 2017, a newby but I love the accountability to track everything.

What are your proudest Spark achievements? My proudest moment was when I signed up and right away saw other people with my similar problem.

If you did a previous Challenge tell us about it. I did the 5% Summer Challenge with the Determined Daisies and we went to awesome places and did well.

2 random fun facts about you? I drive a Bookmobile, 30 feet long and 8 feet wide. I have had my job with the county 25 years.

Anything else you would like to share? Let me see: I am a turtle at losing, been on more diets than I can remember. Even tried the diet where you ate little chunks of chocolate flavored squares and drank something hot to wash them down, that was many years ago. I was considered overweight at birth, 9 pounds and only 18 inches long.

I can't wait to start reading everyone's intros and getting to know more of you.

What do you like to do for fun? Walk, crafts, read, shop, garden, cook.

What diet are you following? Recently I started Weight Watchers online for something different and to make me more mindful about my eating. I still track my calories here, too.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, running.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This is my second year with the challenges. I've had the same goal for a year and this past challenge I reached it! It helped that I ended a stressful job that contributed to lots of stress eating.

2 random fun facts about you? I have a son who is a college athlete. We follow his cross country and track meets throughout the year. When you are a cross country parent you have to be in shape just like your athlete since watching meets involves walking or running to see the runners run the course. This same son spends his summers as a camp counselor at a wilderness camp. So, again I have to be in shape and have a lot of energy to follow his activities. I have another son who works for a news affiliate in the production department and does some reporting. That is interesting because we don't have a television and raised our kids without t.v.

Anything else you would like to share? I'm starting a new job next week. I'm excited and nervous. It will also be a sedentary job. Joining Weight Watchers was part of my preparation for the new job to be more mindful. I'll have limited opportunities to exercise with the new job and also with the onset of Fall/Winter. So, I'm hoping this challenge will keep me focused and working on my goals.

What do you like to do for fun? Lately not much I can do. Watching movies, seeing concerts. No real hobbies lately.

What diet are you following? I am very strict Ketogenic, NO grains, NO sugar & No potatoes (really no root vegetables)

What is your favorite exercise? Uhm.. I am just starting to try some new things. I am enjoying Pilates the most of my new things.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. My first one was 5% Fall 2016 as a Rookie, I stayed on for Spring with all my Rookies as the new team Weight Warriors. To try and refind my passion for cooking/baking I was able to get on the Champions in the Kitchen team for Summer 2017 and have requested to stay for Fall. What is your name or nick name? Deb

What do you like to do for fun? read, knit, craft, play with my computer, hike, walk and babysit my three grandsons!

What diet are you following? I follow the caloric Sparkpeople recommendations and am converting to vegetarianism then on to veganism hopefully.

What is your favorite exercise? hiking, walking and treadmill

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This is my fifth Challenge. I began in the Fall of 2016, so as of this Fall Challenge it will be five. I started out on the Rookies Team and became a ROWDY REBEL when the final Rookies team converted to the REBELS.

2 random fun facts about you?I love to laugh and have fun and I am grandmother to three, beautiful boys - Blaine 8, Micah 6 and Hayden 2 who are the loves of my life.

Anything else you would like to share? When I was growing up my Dad used to race British Motors Austin Healy Sprites - sportscar - in SCCA competition and we were his pit crew. I have been all over the United States and traveled some in Mexico too. Have a TREMENDOUS FALL CHALLENGE

2 random fun facts about you: I am originally from the Azores so I speak European Portuguese. I have been teaching myself German here and there.

Anything else you would like to share? I just turned 40 this past July and I'm tired of being in the obese category according to my BMI. I'm tired of not liking the person I see in the mirror and I'm tired of not living life because I feel like I am "too fat" . I really need to do something about it before it's too late.

My name is Jackie. I enjoy being in the kitchen making new recipes and old favorites. I also enjoy reading, walks around the flower gardens in my backyard, weekend road trips, yoga and after watching a few youtube knitting videos I knit now...started a scarf...hopefully I'll have it done by the time the cold weather arrives :) I'm not on a "diet" ...I call it a healthy lifestyle....I just choose each day to eat healthy and get my exercise in no matter how busy the day can get. My favorite exercise is yoga and I have a stationary bike also I do walk videos...Leslie Sansone is my favorite. So excited to be back!

What is your name or nick name? Amy Griffin.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to play video games, camp, go walking, and sing. I am starting to birdwatch and I love watching the stars!

What diet are you following? Just healthy eating. Trying to keep my calories in range and keep my macros on target and then exercising!

What is your favorite exercise? Walking. I love being outside.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the summer 5% as a newbie and really enjoyed it. Got my 5% loss by 0.2 pounds! Then, of course, I blew it and gained 2 pounds over the weekend. But, I am ready to get back at it!

2 random fun facts about you? I have lived in 15 states and two foreign countries and visited 47 states and 6 countries. I am 50 years old and back in school.

Hi! My name is Kim. I'm a single mom of a wonderfully enjoyable young adult Aspergian. Trying to find a job after recovering from an accident in December and the death of my Dad three weeks before. Recently I broke up with my long time on again off again boyfriend. Starting to speak again. But remaining vigilant not to return to bad, codependent, unhealthy habits. My health goal: lose 20 pounds by Christmas. I'm concerned about developing pre-diabetes and heart disease. These conditions are prevalent on Both sides of my family. And my big 5-0 is next year. My name is Juli - I'm a former Sparker returning -aiming to stick with it this time. In the past, I have gotten overwhelmed at all that I need to do and just gave up. Although I don't currently have any significant weight-related medical issues - I'm not getting any younger and things are starting to get achier. I work from home on the computer all day and have turned that into an excuse to be sedentary.

What diet are you following? My husband and I are white-sugar and white-flour free (Since 8/1/2017) and I've adapted portions of the Paleo diet that fit our existing clean eating food plan.

What is your favorite exercise? Weight training! (I love it..probably because my trainer is my husband.) Walking, using the elliptical, and looking forward to getting back to Zumba!

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. Been doing the 5% challenges (even most of the in-between challenges) since Spring 2015. The support to be found in my team is invaluable, and the team is a safe haven for accountability.

2 random fun facts about you? I love to go target shooting. As hard as I've tried, I still can't learn to crochet, so my "job" on our church Prayer Shawl committee is to weave in yarn ends!

2. What do you like to do for fun?
I can safely say I am addicted to all my electronic devices, but I also like to read, sing and look up new recipes.

3. What diet are you following?
Nothing specifically; I'm trying to stay within my calorie range daily, limit sugar and soda (which is the hardest part for me!)

4. What is your favorite exercise?
I love Jessica Smith workout videos.

5. If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
I have done them before and I actually really like them. I love the format of "going" places by working out. I want to buckle down and actually work hard so I can finally lose some of this weight!

6. 2 random fun facts about you?
What constitutes a "fun" fact? lol I love chocolate covered gummy bears and I'm really excited about my new job.

7. Anything else you would like to share?

1. What is your name or nick name? I don't use my real name on SparkPeople. Call me Aggie. :)

2. What do you like to do for fun?
Read, explore, museums, watch BBC Sci-Fi, try new foods, bake sourdough bread. I love to dance, though I only do it at weddings and alone at home, and sing, though again only alone at home or in my car. This was really hard to answer - I work so much I don't do a lot of fun stuff - I never seem to find the time. Something else to work on!

3. What diet are you following?
I watch what I eat. I eat everything except celery! I eat five times a day - 3 meals, a snack in the morning, and afternoon tea. I try to balance my macros on SP, but I don't get upset if I don't. I love carbs, full-fat dairy, and chocolate.

I am an emotional eater and a stress eater. Owning that and recognizing that has been the most important part of my journey.

I am no longer looking at myself as a big fat person. I am a petite woman who is carrying too much weight! It's helping me put things in perspective and not eat as much. I'm only 5'2" - I don't need to eat the same size helpings as my 5'10" husband.

My most recent plateau-buster involved rereading "French Women Don't Get Fat" and getting out of the food rut I had been in. I now use small plates, eat in courses, and try to choose the veggies and fruits that are in season. I also try to buy one new food at the grocery store each week and work it into my meals. It really helped. I had plateaued for 7 weeks, and I've lost 5 lbs since rebooting.

4. What is your favorite exercise?
I walk for 1/2 hour 4-5 times/week, and do about 20 minutes of yoga every morning before work. I just downloaded a meditation app.

I have gone through phases where I was a gung-ho gym-goer- summer boot camp, kickboxing, C25K, etc. It's fun for a while and then I get burned out. Also it's really hard to find the time with my job. I'm just never going to make strenuous exercise a regular part of my life, for the rest of my life. If I lose the weight doing that, I'll just gain it back when I quit. So I don't do it unless I feel like it, for fun. The yoga and walking I enjoy, and it is part of my life. I adjust my calories accordingly and roll with it.

I'll be 40 in a month - I'm not looking for a beach bod. I just want to be in a normal weight range for the first time in my adult life, and find some inner peace and happiness. My job is very stressful and I am away from my husband for most of the week; my immediate family lives 600 miles away. It's very hard on me so I am trying to take good care of myself.

If I have it was years ago - I've been on and off SP since January 2009!

6. 2 random fun facts about you?
I can write in cursive with my toes.
I have a 16 1/2 year old dog named Frank.

7. Anything else you would like to share?
I've lost 22 lbs this year - 45 since my all-time high. It's great, and I'm happy that it makes so much sense this time around. I feel like I will keep it off for life this time - really. However, it is weird to get used to. I've been overweight most of my adult life, and right now for instance my face looks weird to me. When did I get cheekbones? I don't remember them from the last time I was this weight (my C25K days - 2009). I think that my face changed as I aged, but under the fat I didn't know it. Now I look at someone I don't quite recognize. It's all very strange. Good, but strange.

My name is Nola. I have been in the 5% Challenges since Fall of 2014. I took off last Spring and Summer due to some issues, but I am back and hope to get back on track. I got tired of feeling guilty every time I ate. Will be working on attitude and motivation this go round!

What is your name or nick name? I don't really have a nickname.

What do you like to do for fun? I love reading my Bible, riding my horse Charlie Brown, playing with my dogs and working out in the pasture.

What diet are you following? I am trying the almost vegan diet. I will get most of my nutrients from veggies and beans.

What is your favorite exercise? I would have to say the plank. For me it utilizes ALL my muscles.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I joined in Fall of 2014 and lost 37 pounds by December. I ate well, slept well, felt so much better and had made some really great habits.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a go getter. I'm a bit obsessed at times, but have learned not to let it run my life. Nothing works perfectly.. Always have a Plan B, C, D...LOL

Anything else you would like to share? I hope to encourage and inspire all my teammates so that we can be successful in the journey. I know there will be hills and bumps, but with determination and persistence, We Can Do This!! SparkCheers,
