What do you like to do for fun? Be with friends & family. Paint, play card games, jigsaws and read.
What diet are you following? None, I eat what I like within my calorie.

What is your favorite exercise? chair yoga when I can get to a class.


Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season? My husband is in a nursing home which I go to every day. I have back, leg & arm issues. I have PT twice a week and follow through with some of the exercises the other days.


If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I signed up for one but didn't make it. What I did several times is some of the Spark & Calendar challenges.


Two (2) random fun facts about you? I like to make people laugh. I enjoy music and dancing.


Anything else you would like to share?
I hope that I can follow the rules that go along with the 5 % challenge.I'm looking forward to it.

I have been married 39 years this November, I have 6 grandchildren

I lost weight last year without really trying, but it has been slowly creeping back. I want to reverse that pattern.

DASH, but changing it up a bit with using Pre-Diabetes guidelines. Blood test numbers are quite good....so let's not tinker too much

I've done quite a few, never made the 5% in 8 weeks....BUT I love the accountability, team spirit, support, and just working with the Rowdy Rebel leadership team (I"m an Extra Leader)

Two (2) random fun facts about you?
I love to laugh at myself, esp. re: my golf game. I retired in July, and am volunteering out of my comfort zone with various aspects, incl. domestic violence, working with college students, and home re-building for Superstorm Sandy victims (yes, still).

Anything else you would like to share?
These challenges are fun, but don't get caught in the 5% weight loss goal. It's more about feeling better physically and mentally....weight is just a number!

I feel a bit stuck into this "I need to lose weight" mentality, it seems it's all I've been trying to do in the past years, but it's so important for my health and myself in general, so I'm trying to make it more fun!

7. Are you in MAINTENANCE: YES emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Opps, by the Challenge rules since a 5% weight loss would put me below my doctor's approved/recommended goal, I AM in MAINTENANCE!!! Achieved that during the previous Challenge!!! emoticon

8. Are you new to the 5 % Challenges or been here before: This is my 14th (I think) official challenge. I started with the in-between 2015 Summer - I've learned that I need to be here - for the rest of my life. Kind of like living near your childhood home, just need the connection to keep honest & be successful - open to both encouragement & accountability.

9. What do you consider your worst trigger food? I'm triggered by both sweet and salty foods

10, What eating plan are you following? Low Carb, high protein Diabetic Diet. I unlinked the Spark diet from the exercise tracker. I follow a post surgery bariatric diet. I provide 6 "re-fueling" events, my stomach can only hold about 1 cup by volume. I need to take in protein (80grams minimum per day.) I MUST take in 8 Cups - 2 liters of water to avoid dehydration and I take specific bariatric vitamins because the area of the stomach where certain vitamins (D3, Calcium, iron) are digested has been reduced drastically.

11. What is your favorite exercise/workout? Zumba, Walking and gardening. Added strength training. I am learning to do so many new things! I used to like to sit on the couch or my recliner, eating! Eating almost anything, potato chips, ice cream, usually one or two bags, and several pints or a half gallon!
That was then, now I go to Zumba Classes, even became a licensed Zumba and Zumba Gold instructor! I also joined a second gym to get extra hours (Planet Fitness is a 24/7) Gym!!!!
I live outside Allentown, PA in the foothills of Blue Mountain in the Lehigh Valley.

Hey, I'm Matt/Matthew (no preference to either).

I like to read, cook, meditate, workout, surf the web, code, play video games, and learn new skills.

The diet I'm following is similar to Whole30, but not exactly. It's basically "no processed foods" and no legumes. I'm slowing becoming more strict with myself, regarding what I eat.

My favorite exercise is whatever is feeling strong that week. I practice bodybuilding and powerlifting moves and routines, and it all feels good.

My biggest challenge will always be sweets particularly chocolate.

2 random facts about me are that I carry around Canadian money with me (I went to Canada a while back, and simply haven't removed it from my wallet) and that I used to be a chef.


"I will not feel deprived when I bypass junk food. I will feel empowered because I made the right choice."

Remember, we do this to wake up excited, and fall asleep satisfied.

Sleep Long, Get Strong, and Keep On Keepin' On!

The reason I do all this is because I want to make the world a brighter and more enjoyable place. I deserve that and the world deserves that.

I don't follow a specific diet but track everything I eat.
Used to love to take long walks on the beach with Chloe my fur baby. We lost her this summer, I !miss her terribly.
I need to create better eating habits.
Have been doing these challenges for a while with not much success but won't give up.
Not a fun fact but I was adopted and had a wonderful life.
Lost my husband when he was 40. We had 3 son's whom I'm very close to. Remarried 15 yrs. ago. We are snow birds and love it. I'm going to be 73 in a few day and am grateful for Evey day. God is good.

Hello everyone :)

My name is Ashley.

In my free time, I love reading, walking, cooking, hiking, yoga, paddle boarding, traveling, exploring and hanging out with my boyfriend, family, and friends.

I do not follow a diet, I just try to eat and make healthy foods.

My favorite way to exercise is by walking, strength training, hiking, paddle boarding, and doing yoga.

This year my main focus is progress. I would like to continue eating healthy foods and start eating them at a more consistent rate. I would also like to start working out on a consistent basis.

I participated in the 5% challenge over the summer. I enjoyed it and felt like it really helped me get back on track. I skipped doing the fall one because I started student teaching and needed to ensure my entire focus was on that. Someone told me that this was starting up again and I felt like it was a good way to start my year off.

One fun fact about myself is that I was born and raised in Colorado. It is my favorite place in the entire world.

A second fun fact about myself is that I just finished student teaching in December, I will be subbing this spring, and hoping to find my first teaching job in the fall! It is a VERY exciting time in my life.

Other things about me: I am 23 years old and just finished college in December. I have been dating my boyfriend for 2 years and we moved in together in August.

What do you like to do for fun? In the warm months I like to hike and garden. In colder months I prefer reading and watching football. GO EAGLES!

What diet are you following? I'm not really following a diet. I recently quit all carbonated drinks and replaced them with water. I'm trying really hard to tame my sweet tooth.

What is your favorite exercise? I would have to say walking outside. I've just recently started the kettle bell (like yesterday) and I just bought myself a stability ball. But I really love being outdoors during nice weather.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have, it's been about a year since I did the last one. I lost my account somehow. Last year I lost 20 lbs and this year (2018) I found about 15 of it. Doing the challenges was really helpful for me and that's why I'm back.

I have several challenges they help me focus on the end prize being healthy not worrying what the scales says as long as work in the team challenges each week found that fitness minutes add up fast as I complete the weekly challenges to help my team I have learned to not listen to that little voice that tells me its okay to skip that workout that out today .

2 random fun facts about you?
Have a spoiled four legged child named Racey he was a gift from a friend who could not long care long term for him but in the past she spoils him when I go to visit family in Denver twice a year

Anything else you would like to share? It took me 7 years to go from 201 pounds to 143 pounds I not the fast loser but I never gave up had slips on the journey but the BIG Thing is I never turned my page off or disappeared like so many of my Spark friends have done I often wonder how they are doing .

I had cataract surgery on 12/19/18 and the other eye will be done
on the 9th of Jan. Only 2 day limits so it shouldn't stop my activities.

I also have a problem of getting overwhelmed.

I am now on 24/7 oxygen so not sure how it will affect me.

I have started a few, don't think I have finished any.
I am going to work hard on not letting myself to
become overwhelmed.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to visit with friends, play cards, travel when the opportunity is there, read, and connect with family that are at a distance.

What diet are you following? No specific diet, just tracking my food and trying to get all the nutrients in while staying within my calorie range.

What is your favorite exercise? I really do not like to exercise. I have a recumbant bike, and I use dumbells.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? My husband's health is very poor right now, and the stress from that is pretty heavy.

o I answered an ad in the paper and went around the world with a company I had never heard of and with no one I knew when I was 21 and have great memories.

What do you like to do for fun? I am open to just about anything! I love being with my husband and kids. I enjoy traveling, live music concerts, hiking, hula hooping, crocheting, dancing, crafting, volunteering, hanging out with my girlfriends, date nights, road trips, game nights and gardening.

2 random fun facts about you? I raise chickens and rabbits for pets. They are my therapy animals. I've lived in Illinois my entire life, but would love to move to the mountains!

Anything else you would like to share? I'm extremely nervous about this challenge. It's exciting to be challenged and supported by others! However, my confidence level is at an all-time low, and I am scared I will unintentionally break one of the rules, or miss important information. 1) I set a 100 book goal challenge on Goodreads each year. Yes, I'm an avid reader. There is always a book with me or within reach.
2) I was a home ec major in college (and once upon a time a home ec teacher) so I cook A LOT! I mean to the point that we rarely eat out.

Motivation thanks to working from home, but I may be changing jobs at the same time the challenge starts, so I'll be working outside of the house, and motivation may be hitting again

I work as a cashier at a travel center. I love my job and meeting new people who are from all over the United States. I have lived in Minnesota almost my entire life, but still haven't gotten use to winter, even though there were blizzards and snow where I was born as well. I recently moved to a 2 bedroom townhouse that I absolutely love! So, I spend a lot of time cleaning and keeping it tidy, which I never did for any of my 1 bedroom apartments. I use Walk Away the Pounds to exercise when the weather outside is too rough to walk outside.

I have hypothyroidism which makes weight loss more difficult.

I have done several of the challenges. I haven't met my goal yet, but I enjoy doing the challenges and appreciate all the support. I am hoping to get closer to goal this time.

2 random fun facts about you?
I am a retired school teacher. The last several years I taught Kindergarten. I went skydiving on my 72nd birthday and loved it.

Anything else you would like to share?
I recently joined a Silver Sneakers class at the Senior Citizens center. It's a lot fun, and I get to meet other people in my age group. I have no support at home and rely on Spark support which has been tremendous.

Hello everyone. My name is Beverly, but I also answer to Bev or Gramee.

I am semi-retired (still get called to work some) and love to spend my days quilting. Hubby and I enjoy traveling and finding new biking/hiking trails.

I am a newly diagnosed pre-diabetic and am adjusting to a low carb diet. Up to this point I have done portion controls.

Hubby and I ride bicycles, hike, and kayak. Most days I get in about 2 miles walking in my neighborhood.

Adjusting to the low carb diet has not been as easy as I had envisioned. All my doctors have a different version of what qualifies as low carb, and that hasn't helped much.

This will be my first 5% Challenge and I'm looking forward to it.

Before I "retired" I started secretly making quilts for co-workers who were experiencing difficulties in their lives. I took them to the chaplain and she would see they were delivered. Well, secrets can't be kept and everyone started donating fabric, batting, cards, thread, ... and soon I was basically in business. And I love it.

I also volunteer at the Marianna Green Henry Special Equestrian Arena. It is part of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind school. Volunteers help groom and care for the horses, lead them and provide assistance for the young riders. Our riders range from 3 to 17 years of age and require various degrees of assistance. On days when all the classes make it we walk up to 9 miles.

I am looking forward to encouragement from fellow Challengers to keep me going this winter.

What do you like to do for fun? enjoy nature, arts, writing in my journal, and hanging out with friends and family (not necessarily in that order) Reading, shooting firearms, hanging with family and friends

What diet are you following? Keto

What is your favorite exercise? Elliptical

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I have just had a lot of personal tragedies and issues that I have allowed to interfere with personal care. I need to change that.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done previous challenges but it's been a long time.

Two random fun facts about me: There hasn't been a lot of random or fun lately...but once upon a time...the first time I went snow skiing, I didn't fall one time. I'm not very athletic so I've always been proud of that.

What do you like to do for fun? enjoy nature, arts, writing in my journal, and hanging out with friends and family (not necessarily in that order)

What diet are you following? I am focusing on a balanced diet with recommended amount of calories

What is your favorite exercise? walking/squats/planks

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I have had some injuries this year, so strength training will definitely be foremost on my exercise goals

Two random fun facts about me: I am devoting 2019 to my top priorities: Health, Simplicity, Relationships, and Personal Growth. --- 2019 is a year of preparation for me. When I turn 60 next year, I want to be ready for whatever I choose to passionately pursue for the remaining years of my life.

Oh, also, I am a severe sugar addict who has pledged to give up all sugar and will be giving letters of my confession and pledge to all my family and friends at our family Christmas party, or as soon as I see them or can mail the letters to them.

Anything else you would like to share? MawMaw101 has been my friend for quite a while, and she has been encouraging me to join. Well, here I am! (Thanks Phyllis!)

What do you like to do for fun? Visit kids, family. Long distance backpacking.

What diet are you following? I am following the SP suggestions. It's working for me.

What is your favorite exercise? Hiking/walking

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I'm to the very last 5 pounds. It takes a lot of time to lose the last pesky pounds!

Two random fun facts about me: I have 2 rescue dogs that quickly learned how to rule my husband. My neighbors all know me as "the lady who walks all the time." I also hiked 700 miles on the Appalachian Trail a year and a half ago and plan on going back to hike 700 to 1000 miles more mid May 2019.

Anything else you would like to share? I was in my first team this past 6 weeks and am looking forward to being part of both teams.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. My first 5% Challenge was Summer 2008, waiting on the lawn before the Firecrackers formed. I've been generally happy no matter what team I call home and was ready to come back after my little was big enough to let me have a sliver of time here and there to myself.

Two random fun facts about me: I love gardening and will take on any physical challenge I think I can finish...even if I finish last.

Anything else you would like to share? I want this time to be the first time I hit my 5% goal. I've come close in the past, but I'm going to get it this time!

Hi my name is Lindsey

I love watching films, reading books and drawing when I get the chance


I'm not following a specific diet I try to stay in the sparkpeople guidelines but I've just started back with Paul McKenna I can make you thin.


I do most of my exercise with youtube videos Fitnessblender and Lucy Wyndham Read are my current favourites but I like to try new things too.


My main challenge during the holiday season will be finding time to workout my kids finish school next Thursday and will be home for 2 weeks I can't wait but I need to remember to find a little me time and not feel guilty for it.


This is my first 5% challenge I'm looking forward to it.


I'm married and have two children and I love Christmas.

A little about me--

What is your name or nick name? Jonnie

What do you like to do for fun? Travel, walk, Yoga, read, have lunch with friends.

What diet are you following? I am currently following a diet limiting white carbs and sweets as well as portion control along with intermittent fasting.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking and yoga

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Keeping the weight off while traveling.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. My first 5% Challenge was Fall, 2011 and I have participated in them sequentially ever since, often as a leader. I started as an Awesome A, but then changed to the Teddy Bears and continued with them until I finally took a break earlier this year. I usually attain my 5% goal and attribute maintaining my goal weight to participation in the 5% Challenges. I've got 10 lbs+ to lose again for this challenge, and I am confident I will do it.

Two random fun facts about me: I am passionate about travel. I just returned from an awesome Transatlantic Cruise. The big challenge was all those cruise meals, but I did do an hour in the gym most days.

Anything else you would like to share? I intend to do 10,000+ steps daily during this challenge. :)

New job. Still getting the hang of that.
Haven't exercised in years. I've lost over 60 lbs with just diet. It's going fine (no plateau), but I feel like I'm at a point now where I need to start doing some cardio and weight training

Yes, I did. It went well; I lost weight and met my goals.

I sleep (very) weird hours.

I'm trying to lose weight so I can have children. (At the time of this writing, I'm presently in the 180s. I'd like to at least be in the 150s first. I turn 36 this year. Time is not my friend at this point in the game. :-(
