Maintain an Exercise program,
Had a cortisone shot in one of my feet for stretched tendon about 2 weeks ago, this has decreased my tolerance for doing the walking I need to do.

Did the Spring 5% Challenge, lost some weight
Started the 5 % Summer Challenge, had difficulty finding the correct posts to document, the initial weight and week 1 challenge info.


2 random fun facts about you?
1. I donít have pets, enjoy seeing farm animals on local car drives.
2. Like to go to Board Game meet-ups.

What is your name or nick name? Name is Karri, nick name is Flea

What do you like to do for fun? Sew (I'm learning), crochet, read, bake with my kiddos, and (once I get in shape enough) hiking.

What diet are you following? Mostly Paleo, but the Protein shakes my doctor has me on (I need more protein) is whey protein isolate (made from milk) so not exactly Paleo

What is your favorite exercise? Treadmill. I love the elliptical, but the one I bought the gait is totally wrong and hurt my knee. I love working with medicine balls, and pilates.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? My dad died in April and I have had family (sibling) problems. I tend to emotionally eat. I had lost 100 pounds and over the Summer I gained 20 of it back.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This would be my first one! I have heard awesome things about it and am looking forward to it

2 random fun facts about you? I am 5' 1" tall, and used to being the shortest person around except for my (teen and tween) girls. I was in the Air Force for 8 years.

Anything else you would like to share? I have insomnia bad, and am trying (with the help of my doc) to get it under control again, so I tend to eat a lot for 'breakfast' from like midnight to my post workout shake. Must stop that, but I get super hungry at night!

What do you like to do for fun? We travel frequently in our RV and love exploring new places. I enjoy sewing, reading, and working with stained glass.

What diet are you following? Using the Spark Nutrition tracker, I eat mostly Whole Foods and attempt to stay in calorie range. Since I really donít enjoy cooking like I used to, I stick to grilled veggies, chicken, fish, and salads.

What is your favorite exercise? Swimming and walking. My Fitbit logs 10,000 steps a day usually. We live in a retirement community with an outdoor pool open May through October.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Still recovering from hip bursitis but after a year, itís much improved and Iím trying to resume regular exercise.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This is my first one.

2 random fun facts about you? Recently I stopped coloring my hair, ready to embrace the gray. emoticon We also just adopted 2 small mixed breed puppies after our 17 year old chihuahua died. Lots of fun!

Anything else you would like to share? My husband and I have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Weíre retired high school history teachers and travel as much as possible to stay in touch with a far-flung family. I first joined SparkPeople in 2010 and lost 57 pounds. Maintenance only lasted a couple of years ó now I fight losing and re-gaining the same 10-15 pounds.

Honestly I hate baking, but I love decorating cakes. I also am an apprentice carpenter, and find loads of fun it. And hope to one day teach my kids those skills.

What do you like to do for fun?
I am on a journey of self-discovery right now to discover a more active me. I do enjoy puzzles, word games, crafting, and being outdoors fishing, gardening, and wildlife watching. I am exploring hiking, tubing, canoeing, and eventually biking.

What diet are you following?
I am following the plan that was set by my SparkPeople account. I do my best to stay within my ranges and to meet my macros. I am choosing not to restrict foods, just eat less healthy food less often.

What is your favorite exercise?
I enjoy walking when my feet and legs allow it. Water walking is awesome and water aerobics. I also enjoy using a recumbent step machine. Dancing is my newest fave. I am branching out to resistance training this week.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing with this season?
I have plantar fasciitis so at times I struggle with pain in my feet. I will be a full-time student and working part-time during part of this challenge. So it will be stressful and busy.

This is my first ever challenge. I am nervous and excited. I am having trouble deciding on a team. I think I will leave it to chance and see where I end up.

2 Random fun facts about you?
I moved 890 miles to start my life over with the man I dated in high school. I went back to school to get 2 associate degrees when I turned 45 and I will complete them both in December.

I enjoy encouraging others and being a part of a supportive group.

I love reading, swimming, sudoku, and Candy Crush, care games and visiting with friends and family - especially the kids

I don't follow a diet but try to stick with mostly unprocessed foods, avoiding transfats, additives, and artificial sweeteners or added sugars. I also have a couple of "Rules of thumb" that guide my choices. The first is: Is this better than I would have eaten in the past - smaller portions, fewer servings, fruit instead of baked goods, etc. The second is a hierarchy of healthiness - the closer it is to its natural state, the more of it I choose to eat and the more frequently, the as it becomes more processed or altered, the less often and smaller the portions. (My cousin called this as his , " Would God recognize this as food?" rule). Nothing is forbidden and in moderation I will enjoy ANYTHING I like, but will fit it into my eating plans.

My favorite exercise is swimming and water aerobics.

I hope I will be dealing with bilateral knee replacements and numerous close friends from church and in my family having major health issues and as there are 9 of them who are at least 80 and 3 in their 90s who are getting prepared to return home to the outstretched arms of their loved ones who have already left us behind.

I have been doing the 5% Challenges since fall of 2017. I am a leader and I create the Questions of the Day for the Shooting Stars team. I have had mixed results during the challenges and sometimes lost more than my 5% and other times not losing much of even gaining some.

Two random fun facts are that I lived in Nigeria for 3 years and ran my own school there, and I have traveled to 3 continents, a dozen countries, and 47 of the 50 contiguous United States.

What do you like to do for fun? Spend time with family. We love to camp. All 7 of our grands are busy with sports and both Girl & Boy Scouting as well as extracurricular school & church activities so we are busy grandparents.

What diet are you following? I use SP's nutrition tracker and follow the guidelines for a 71 year old woman by staying between 1200-1400 calories a day... with lots of freggies/water/wholegrains/organic foods. Moderation is key so I enjoy full fat, dark chocolate, the occasional glass of wine and a strong margarita.

What is your favorite exercise? Swimming and playing outdoors with our grandchildren.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Yes, I'm struggling with AFib... can't walk like I use to... just don't have the stamina. Praying that will change and I'll be feeling better. I also have had arthritis since my mid-twenties so I have a lot of joint and pain issues. Had hoped to start riding a bike again but balance issues (lost the hearing in my left ear) along with bad knees and painful bursitis/sciatica has limited my love of walking. Maybe itís time for an adult tricycle.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done so many I've lost count... I've never reached the 5% loss but that doesn't keep me from participating and enjoying all the benefits of the challenge.

2 random fun facts about you? I joined SP the day before my 64th birthday, nine years ago this June 22nd. I weighed 333 pounds and lost 73 pounds the first 9 months. I have mostly kept it off and learned to eat to live not live to eat. My intention is to lose more and be more active. My health is very important since we take care of our youngest grandsons (4 & 6) a couple times a week and my 91 year old mother lives with us so I have to take care of myself.

I am using common sense eating mixed with Intermittent Fasting. I try to eat a balanced lower on the carbs diet.

What is your favorite exercise?

I HATE exercise...I really do...but I do enjoy walking. It's hotter than heck right now in FL so I use my trusty treadmill...I named her Slim...she calls me Fluffy!

I am DEFINITELY time deprived now that my dear hubby of 41 years is fighting Sarcoma Cancer. We are using Hospice Care right now and they are wonderful..but I'm very, very sad seeing my hubby in such pain. I HAVE to work so it's definitely stressful to me and riddles me with guilt.

Over the years I've done many, many challenges. I think I actually hit my 5% two or three times so that was very gratifying!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Weight loss challenge is to stay focused and intentional to drop another 5%. Emotional challenge is that my Dad is having open heart surgery this week which is going to require more of my involvement both physically and emotionally and I don't want to slip back into coping with food.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the Spring 2019 5% challenge with the WRJ&G and was successful at losing my 5%. Being actively involved in a team made a huge difference in my weight loss.

2 random fun facts about you? I am a simple, no frills person who is mellowing with age...thannk goodness! And I like sipping hot tea in the afternoon even during the summer.

Anything else you would like to share: I have 6 adult children, 4 of whom are married, one who is on the autism spectrum who lives with us, and one who has chosen the drug culture. We have 3 granddaughters and a grandson coming in September.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to cross stitch, knit and spend time with my husband.

What diet are you following? Basically tracking my food and staying within the range recommended by Spark People. Try to eat a lot of veggies. Drink lots of water.

What is your favorite exercise? I am following a pool exercise routine set up for me in physical therapy. I also walk 15 min 1 to 2 times a day. (Recovering from back surgery last November).

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I am still dealing with some back and sciatic pain.

2 random fun facts about you? I come from a family of 11 children. I have a pet parakeet named Luna.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I have some knee and hip pain, so no high-impact stuff for me, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. yes, I did a few with the Spirited Underdawgs...struggled in the last one I was doing with them so they asked me to leave their team for the next one and suggested I join the Casual Travelers instead. Frankly I was hurt since I had been a very dedicated team member up until that particular challenge, but I admit I wasn't contributing at the level I needed to be. I'm ready to give it my all again now, but asking for a different team.

2 random fun facts about you? I like to sing karaoke & I like to roller skate, although I haven't in some time...thinking of getting back to it but a little afraid of what a fall might do to me at this point in my life.

Anything else you would like to share? I have 3 rescue dogs that own my heart, I am 52 and have been divorced for 20 years, and I have been overweight all of my adult life. I lost just over 80 pounds in 2016-17, but like a dodo I gained it back in 2017-19. I've recently started back, am doing well, and determined to NEVER EVER QUIT!

What do you like to do for fun?
Now that it's summer, I love to read and sit around the pool relaxing. I also like to run races and to spectate when my daughter is in races with My Team Triumph.

What diet are you following?
No specific diet. I'm a vegetarian. I'm trying to follow a vegan diet a few days per week, just to really pay attention to what I'm eating. I need to get back into consistently tracking my foods and getting enough protein.

What is your favorite exercise?
Running!!! I have a half marathon in a week and another one in September, as well as a few shorter distances coming up. I especially love running in the morning in the summer and then hopping in the pool when I get home!

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
I have a half marathon just before the challenge starts (next weekend) and a half in September. I am really hoping to PR at both races, which will require good focus on my nutrition this summer!

I have been a Rowdy Rebel twice and have loved it. I didn't hit my 5% goal either time, but I still lost weight and have kept it off between challenges, so I'm happy with that.

2 random fun facts about you?
*I LOVE runDisney and would run all the races there if I could afford it and lived closer! It was my first marathon in 2014 and my first multi-day even in 2018 (Dopey challenge), so it's special to me :)

Hi everyone - what an inspiring group of people, my goodness!

My name is Meg and I don't really have a nickname. For fun, I like to volunteer with a community musical theatre company - backstage, not onstage! I love the Broadway musicals we put on twice a year.

I don't follow a specific diet - I get weird about restrictions and sabotage myself - but I'm back on SparkPeople to follow and track a more healthy, lower calorie diet than I've been eating for the last year or so. My focus is on more fruits and vegetables, more vegetarian meals, and moving my tastebuds away from processed sugar and carbs to more whole grains and naturally sweet food (which I've done before so know is possible for me).

My favourite exercise of all time is running. That isn't something I've been able to do for a number of years due to injury and over the years I've grown to enjoy walking and the elliptical trainer. I also really enjoy swimming and hiking.

My personal challenge is that I expect to be starting a new job over the summer and that is traditionally a "dangerous" time for me in terms of my healthy choices. I see that one of the pre-work assignments is to examine the things that have sabotaged me in the past and come up with strategies to address them. I'm really looking forward to getting into that thinking / planning over the weekend so I can be more successful through that transition.

I haven't done a previous 5% challenge, but man you guys seem awesome! I am really jazzed to be part of this. How inspiring to read all the introductions of people who are doing this. It's so great to read about other people who are already doing what I hope to do.

Two random fun facts about me:

1. I'm going to be a great aunt for the first time in late November and I'm really excited about it, even though I don't feel old enough to be a "great" anything!

2. I've signed up to walk a half marathon in early October and am intimidated by the distance (21.1 km!!). But I also know I can do it if I do the training / practice consistently over the summer and early fall.


Really look forward to doing this challenge with all of you!

What diet are you following? Iím just now working to get into ketosis, which is not fun. I will maintain a low carb diet, mainly for some medical benefits, but it is certainly is a good way to lose weight, too. I also am a vegetarian; I do eat eggs and dairy.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking and hiking.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Iím working on dealing better with stress and anxiety.

2 random fun facts about you? I played the flute in HS and college (a few years ago LOL), and have recently taken it up, again. I finally planted my bee garden, this Spring, and it is flourishing. I love watching my honeybees and several wild species of bees in the garden. I guess that makes me a beewatcher.

What do you like to do for fun?
I love being outside (paddleboarding, hiking), reading, spending time with my family, boyfriend, and friends, and cooking.

What diet are you following?
I don't follow a diet, though I try to eat healthy foods and include veggies/fruits with everything.

What is your favorite exercise?
I am part of Camp Gladiator and their workouts are definitely my favorite. I also love paddleboarding, hiking, and walking.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
I keep getting injured (for example I keep getting shin splints and right now I am having an unknown problem with my big toe), being able to say no to sweets has been an issue again recently.

I did summer 2018 5% challenge and the spring 5% challenge. I love the challenges, but occasionally I don't give my all. I am hoping this time I can give my all.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? My 26 year old daughter with disabilities has had a recent diagnosis with a newly discovered genetic condition. Lots of doctor visits 2 hours away but fingers crossed that things will stay stable.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I did the spring challenge as a Weight Warrior and really enjoyed it. Since retirement last June I have been dealing with my mother's strokes and move to a nursing home and then assisted living and my daughter's hospital stay .... most of the time from Thanksgiving to mid March. It was GREAT to do something for me!!

Indoor cycling (I don't have a bike), swimming, running, strength training

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season?
I recently underwent a trauma and have been struggling to deal with the aftermath. I've gained 20 pounds in 2 months and was already struggling before it because of eating disorders. I've been unusually sedentary and eating a lot for comfort.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
I have and I LOVED it. This team is AMAZING.

2 random fun facts about you?
I'm poly and have a husband and wife.
I love triathlon.

What is your name or nick name? Martha and have never had a nick name

What do you like to do for fun? Actually love working out, being with friends, reading and relaxing by the lake, playing with our dog

What diet are you following? No diet, basically follow Michael Pollen's advice to eat "real food, less of it, more plants." Still track my food after all these years because it works.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking! Love doing it for exercise and walking our dog.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I've been at maintenance now for over 6 years and want to stay there.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This is my first.

2 random fun facts about you? (1) As a pre-teen I competed in the National Baton Twirling event with my majorette corps the "Petite Debs." (2) I went to the Peppermint Lounge as a 14 year old after seeing the Beatles in concert. They were supposed to be there, but didn't see them.

Anything else you would like to share? Joined Sparkpeople in 2013 to help me stay at my goal weight. I find this site amazing and incredibly motivating.

What is your favorite exercise? I like to walk and love to do Body Pump (weight lifting with music) at my YMCA. I'd like to restart yoga.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? I will have some summer trips. I hope to keep walking.

What do you like to do for fun? read, work jigsaw puzzles on computer, paint, play piano

What diet are you following? Counting calories. Right now I'm having to be on a bland diet for awhile because of some intestinal problems.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking and Pilates

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? Hypothyroidism and some intestinal issues

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several. I haven't met my 5% yet, but I've pretty much maintained and learned a lot.

2 random fun facts about you? Retired Kindergarten teacher, went skydiving on my 72nd birthday.

Anything else you would like to share? Love to travel when I can, and I will be gone on vacation from June 8th until June 16th. Wish everyone success in the challenge.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've done several 5% challenges since last year...on my 6th I think. I've lost a total of 15 lbs so far. I haven't hit my 5% during the challenges but it motivates me to stick with it. The weight is coming off slowly but it's coming off.

2 random fun facts about you? love headbanging, love to read/watch scifi/fantasy,

What do you like to do for fun? I love to read, listen to music, cook, take pictures, and get outdoors with my husband and dog. emoticon

What diet are you following? None at the moment. I've been 6 years in maintenance range and know what I can get away with and what I can't.

emoticon What is your favorite exercise? Walking, preferably. Though we have a home weight lifting machine and I do enjoy working out with DH.

Do you have a personal challenge you are dealing this season? We have been in "home limbo" since April - we are moving to WA after living in So Cal our entire lives and we haven't been in our own kitchen, nor have we had a scale. Once we move I am hoping things settle down.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I've been in multiple challenges, though not in the last year or so, and have always loved the team support, the competition, and the challenges. While I am not a big lb loser, I do usually meet my maintenance goal, and that's what is important to me at this time. emoticon

2 random fun facts about you? After 28 years of teaching I am hanging it all up, moving away from my family and friends, and starting a new life from scratch with DH. I want to raise bees and chickens. emoticon

I have been in the 5% challenges for a number of times. First I was with the Determined Daisies in 2013 and lost over 50 pounds I was so dedicated at the time. Then I had to have both knees replaced at the same time. The recovery for me took almost 2 years. I was then asked by Carol to join her team in the Champions in the Kitchen team in 2015? or 2016? I love this team too. I have the support I need and have met some of my goals while there. The team members are awesome. I look forward to the Summer challenge and Spring the most.

2 random fun facts about you? I have been married for 39 years later this month. I used to ride a motorcycle and belly dance. I love to meet new people and make new friends.

Anything else you would like to share? Not at this time. :)

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I most recently participated in the Spring 5% challenge. I managed to pretty much maintain my weight, which to me is more important than not gaining. I hope to be more successful in actually losing this time around.

2 random fun facts about you? I once danced for a Rockette. I do a lot of volunteering at my daughter's school.

Hi!
My name is Barb or Barbie (my family name for me)
I enjoy decorating our home, going for walks by the water & love camping near the ocean, I enjoy sewing & being creative, I love to journal & enjoy collecting quotes that inspire me to be my best, I love Pinterest, I collect recipes & enjoy cooking and I love spending time with my hubby, 2 girls, my son to be son (wedding in october) and mom & siblings & families.

My current challenge & diet choices go together. My thyroid had to be removed a year ago & learning to live on medication & adjust my exercise & food choices to lose/maintain a healthy weight is a challenge. I am currently trying a low carb diet & some keto diet ideas as well as working on exercise tweaking as my fibromyalgia pain levels effect this too. Currently adding in some green tea & Apple cider vinegar to help gently boost my metabolism.

I have been a teddy bear and doing the 5% challenge for 8+ years. I was an extra leader & a motivational support leader for a few years as well. I find that this team & the seasonal challenges has kept me consistent in choosing a healthy lifestyle and can't imagine my life without it.

My husband & I are retired and are living in my childhood home caring for my 80 year old mom. I am an RN so also was blessed to get to care for my Dad until he left for heaven after a long battle with cancer. I am thankful for this season of life & that I am blessed with a loving family. I am in a season of finding a "new normal" and seeking to design a daily life that honors God & my Dad too. Making healthy choices is a priority and taking care of myself & those I love is my hearts desire.

Thankful for the 5% challenge & all the leaders....you bless my life!
